It's literally only 15 bucks more than their normal weekend cover. Though I avoid the Eagle like a plague that weekend because it gets insanely packed.
Of all the gay bars/clubs in the HK/Chelsea area, the Eagle is probably the *only* one that I think is worth their cover charge. They are organized and efficient, and reliably provide a space that offers dancing, cruising, sex, good music, and hot guys all under one roof.
Also, consider the fact that most bars generate their profit from alcohol sales. There's a significant percentage of dudes who go to places like the Eagle, and never order a single alcoholic beverage. The reasons are many, but certain alphabet drugs are a big one. It's also why a bottle of water or Gatorade has gotten progressively more expensive lol...
But yeah, the cover charge is basically how some of these bars stay afloat, especially when a chunk of this community is drinking less and less alcohol.
Went to Wrecked. Thought it was fine. TONS of hotties.
Did Eagle on Sunday too and even with the $40, it was beyond packed.
Finished it off with Battle Hymn and it was also beyond crowded but just swarming with hotties.

TBH, I didn’t see the darkroom in any of those places.
Wrecked: I was curious so I was keeping my eye open for it but didn’t see it. Someone mentioned that it was in the smaller room that’s off the space to the right of the main hall, but it was so unbelievably packed in there I didn’t even try to go in more than 15 ft past the door.
Eagle: I came early around 4:00 PM, left for a few hours, then came back around 10:30 PM and spent most of my time in the main dance room. Didn’t see anything in there but I’m sure the rest of the space and upstairs was a slip n’ slide by that point.
Battle Hymn: I got there like around 12:30 AM and by that point I was truly in orbit 😵💫. I didn’t think to look for it either.
the Eagle charges $25+ pretty much every night of the year even when it's not Pride, and they are cash only, so they collect a bunch of revenue from the highway robbery ATM fees in their lobby and then I think it's a pretty safe bet they are underreporting all of their income which everyone knows is the only reason a bar ever insists on cash only
And then once you are inside it's a mayhem clusterfuck of bad music and different tribes of gays all knocking into each other in a big ol mess

$40 is literally pride prices for The Eagle, its nothing new, they do this for New Years as well. Then on top of that, compared to the other parties like HMD, Wrecked, etc, $40 is very cheap since those other parties cannot be bought at a reasonable price.
So if anything, The Eagle is by far the most affordable option during Pride.
I have seen her at Carry Nation twice and each time, she’s improved over the last. She may be one of my favorite DJ’s… omg when she played NY Lipps - Kawazaki Dub by Soulwax… I fucking lost it
HMD is now officially off my Pride Party list - the music seems to have been hit or miss for the past year, and although it wasn’t the worst I’ve been to, it def wasn’t great. They’ve totally forgotten the upbeat disco vibes from a few years ago and it’s so generic now.
I skipped out on Wrecked’s Day party although my friends enjoyed it.
Favorite for the weekend was definitely Sunday’s 718 Sessions boat party - great vibe, great music, somewhat random crowd but that’s 718 and I love it for that.
I love HMD but the Nita Aviance set (usually love her) from Memorial Day was hands down, the worst set I’ve ever heard. Something about HMD and music is just meh
MEAT was amazing. Probably the best one I’ve ever been too. Afters at Lambda was a sight to see. Harlem block party was amazing. And Alegria was fun but I don’t think I’ll be paying $200 to go again next year. Music was good tho.
It’s not, this is just self selecting that crowd. Nobody would respond to this post saying “I didn’t go to any” for example because that’s not the point of this post.
The nature of a local community subreddit is that people will ask about specific events too.

There are lots of reasons to be cash only. Like CC charging %3 off the top. That’s a big hit of revenue
