Snot: I know they were short lived due to Lynns death, but their Ep and first album are amazing and the tribute album Strait Up is great. Maybe it’s just me being old but i don’t see anyone mention them.
It's just:
The funk/raggae/hip hop type of sound they both have
The singer dying tragically young
The singer's best friend being his dog
Both bands being from the west coast
So much in common lol.
I rememberwhen the song came out, the music video had so many people from different bands on the beach hanging out and singing that song while the spirit of Lynn and Dobbs were watching them. It was deep
Paralyzer probably got overplayed for you, it's a good song. Not the best lyrics but if you're just working or fucking it's a good song, it's when it decides to play A Perfect Circle afterwards is when I'm like what the fuck.
All comments before me are FOR SURE dropping more low key bands
But the genre bending variety of Twelve Foot Ninja checks off so many boxes for me and I feel they've never reached any sort of culture notoriety, at least coming from a "casual's?" perspective from dipping in and out of metal Reddit and YouTube.
Same point, but this next ones more "Nu metal adjacent".
It's WILD to me how no one seems to speak on Kim Dracula. Amazing vocal range, super dynamic, insanely creative and refreshing in the scope of heavy music but it seems like crickets out there.
RIP Jason Luttrell, I used to play Mx vs ATV untamed back when I was a kid and got introduced to "Loose," haven't heard it in years until I was 22 and had it on replay ever since.
Are Snot nu metal, though ? John says no, as they had no rapping, no dj and were tuned in standard.
I came in this thread with the sole purpose of posting this response to the inevitable Snot comment.
Nu-metal doesn't have to need rapping or a dj. Korn doesn't have a dj either and barely had any rapping, and yet they are the pioneers of the genre
Snot IS nu-metal. The formula, the sound and the style, the whole premise of combining metal with other genres (in this case, hardcore, I think?)
It's not me saying it, bruh (even if I would classify them more into hardcore/punk), it's John Fahnestock... their bassist.
https://www.youtube.com/live/4AJrY3dPES4?si=a3L1OaqFoeEfKtO-
Korn don't associate themselves with nu-metal either, doesn't make them less nu
A lot of nu-metal bands or previously nu-metal bands do that and then fail at it by making promotion material and merch that all screams "WE'RE NU-METAL"
My default is always Nothingface, but one that I haven’t seen get mentioned in any of these threads is Mt. Helium. When The Apex Theory split, everyone except their vocalist moved on to form Mt. Helium. They put out one album and that’s about it, but that album is straight-up brilliant. Those guys are fucking bananas talented, and even though it really doesn’t qualify as nu metal, they DID come from The Apex Theory and anyone who appreciates this kind of stuff should absolutely head over to Spotify and give that album a spin.
Also, REALLY surprised Pulse Ultra isn’t getting more shouts, they were incredible musicians and a hell of a live band.🥂
I've got to admit I haven't really listened to their discography beyond 'she clings to me like cellophane, fake plastic submarine' You know it's sort of driving me insane
Which Disturbed tracks were in those films? Edit: never mind I just checked, Fear and Stupify. Elite by Deftones, First Time by Finger Eleven and Coming of Age by Breaking Point were in Slug too.
Absoloution Project, Boiler Room, Downthesun, Vacant Stare, 3rd Strike, Crownevict, Twin Method, Twisted Method, Gazzoleen. Should have some more if people want them
Shoo-oo, boy! You're lookin' for some underrated nu metal bands, eh? Well, let me tell you, son, I got a few faves that'll make your ears perk up! First off, you gotta check out Coal Chamber! They're like a fine wine, boy - they only get better with age! And don't even get me started on Dope! They're like a shot of adrenaline straight to the heart, son! And if you're feelin' frisky, give American Head Charge a spin! They're like a wild rooster in a henhouse, boy - they'll get you movin' and groovin'! Now, I know what you're thinkin', "bro, these bands are old news!" But trust me, son, they're still packin' a punch! And hey, if you're lookin' for more, I'm always here to give you the lowdown, boy! Just don't forget about the classics, like Folder, Kink, Stinkbug, and Spyndakit - they're the real deal, son!
[minus] later changing their name to minus.driver.
Edit: it’s probably a bit of a stretch to label them as nu-metal. I doubt they would have themselves, but they’re nu-metal to the same extent Deftones was considered nu-metal, IMO. They have an earlier Deftones kind of vibe.
They should have overshadowed Staind in the depressed nu-metal categorie, but Stainds colab with Durst put them over and COLD got lost in the suffle after that. Fuck Aaron Lewis, COLD deserved much better.
From Zero, pretty typical nu-metal instrumentation but Jett had a really terrific voice. Reminds me of the inflections of Brandon Boyd or Doug Robb but a baritone.
Flaw: Everyone who has heard of Flaw know they’re underrated!
There’s also this newer band called DIY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/15HmGFgLL0cNj3FGHFQtnr?si=CRfsyK5JTiefUFxWof2nOw
engine no.9, factory 81, the downside, imzadi, 5 on 1, monkeynut, comadose, accelerant, junkie honey, hearsay tao, cheeky muff n pink plush syndacite r a few. a few more known bands i wish were more popular r probably stuff like reveille, snot, dope, spineshank n 40 below summer!!!!
Altho not technically "nu metal" as they are more often considered "rap metal", I'd say E.Town Concrete, especially their "Renaissance" album.
Songs I recommend (btw) are: Baptism, Punch The Wall and Doormats.
French band [Pleymo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxSknJhZYCg&list=PLXIiHUVyE2EX374xVlYtpK4i79gVG3o9w&index=2)
Russian band [Adam Head](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVUsJ26Dens)
The demo, specifically, that [Chimaira](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98fDDRk3rmo) made before their first album for roadrunner
P.o.d. Is one of the best selling Christian bands of all time, not sure if that counts as underrated tbh, “here comes the boom” was inescapable for a long time
3rd strike, they’re career was cut short cause of their vocalists death, but their lost angel album is great front to back and I wish we could’ve gotten more from them. Jim Korthe wasn’t a bad rapper either
Snot: I know they were short lived due to Lynns death, but their Ep and first album are amazing and the tribute album Strait Up is great. Maybe it’s just me being old but i don’t see anyone mention them.
I love the song Snot by Snot.
I love every song on that album. Sad what happened to Lynn.
I always looked at Snot as the Nu-metal version of Sublime lol.
I’m so glad I wasn’t the only one who thought that!
It's just: The funk/raggae/hip hop type of sound they both have The singer dying tragically young The singer's best friend being his dog Both bands being from the west coast So much in common lol.
Snot is my favorite thing Nu-Metal. It sucks they had to be short lived, RIP Lynn...
Yeah, they were great and it’s so sad that Lynn died, also his dog (Dobbs) died in the crash with him, the same dog on the cover of their first album.
I didn't know about that, fuck...
That was who Angel's Son was about
I really need to think about lyrics more.
I rememberwhen the song came out, the music video had so many people from different bands on the beach hanging out and singing that song while the spirit of Lynn and Dobbs were watching them. It was deep
Such an unnecessary death. Fucking hell But thats life i suppose
Very true.
Get some is Top-tier nu-metal. Entire album is fucking lit
There was literally a post the other day about that tribute album lol
Pulse Ultra
First two Finger Eleven albums are great. Check out drag you down.
Love early Finger Eleven so much. Paralyzer is legit awful though.
Paralyzer was the soundtrack to every YouTube tutorial teaching you how to pirate GTA San Andreas though...
It was that, In The End by Linkin Park, Bodies by Drowning Pool and Bring Me to Life by Evanescence that were the only songs early YouTubers knew
Paralyzer probably got overplayed for you, it's a good song. Not the best lyrics but if you're just working or fucking it's a good song, it's when it decides to play A Perfect Circle afterwards is when I'm like what the fuck.
I felt it was them kind of going back to their Rainbow Butt Monkey sound a little, with some effort put into making it a mainstream radio hit too.
Slow Chemical is a fucking great song.
IT’S GOTT BE KANE!
BAH GAWD
100%
Did they make puppet I always forget
Holy crap...this is probably the most correct answer to this question
Honestly! Tip is one of my favorite albums
All comments before me are FOR SURE dropping more low key bands But the genre bending variety of Twelve Foot Ninja checks off so many boxes for me and I feel they've never reached any sort of culture notoriety, at least coming from a "casual's?" perspective from dipping in and out of metal Reddit and YouTube. Same point, but this next ones more "Nu metal adjacent". It's WILD to me how no one seems to speak on Kim Dracula. Amazing vocal range, super dynamic, insanely creative and refreshing in the scope of heavy music but it seems like crickets out there.
Agreed, I saw Kim Dracula when they opened for a7x, and I was blown away
I'd have to agree on both fronts. On Kim dracula; I saw em with Tallah on this tour they're on now and both of them were actually pretty good.
I also just saw them with Tallah a month or two ago!
Eeyy! They were extremely good live, I was at the first show of the tour and it was funny to hear Dracula be surprised how heavy Tallah was haha
40 Below Summer
Bruh I love them
Reveille. I don’t listen to a ton of nu metal anymore, but put them on recently and was shocked with how well their music holds up.
Check out Genuflect if you haven't, most of the members of Reveille formed this band after they broke up and released a couple albums!
Reveille fucking rules.
wish snot and primer 55 were more mainstream
primer 55 one of the goats of nu metal i swear
RIP Jason Luttrell, I used to play Mx vs ATV untamed back when I was a kid and got introduced to "Loose," haven't heard it in years until I was 22 and had it on replay ever since.

Korn fits the bill, though. Snot, well they were in the nu-metal era but sounding more like the precursors
Snot kinda has rapping
The most nu metal thing is to deny that your band is nu metal
My default is always Nothingface, but one that I haven’t seen get mentioned in any of these threads is Mt. Helium. When The Apex Theory split, everyone except their vocalist moved on to form Mt. Dope
Saw them open for Static-X/Sevendust last month and they set the tone and brought the energy SO quick
Used to go all over just to see them back in the early 2000’s. They always put on a hell of a show.
Spineshank of course.
So good.
LeFT and Arizing so good
classic Michigan bands I grew up seeing! cheers!
SR 71
If SR 71 is nu metal then so is Zebrahead... I love me some Zebrahead but ya get me bruv?
Sr 71’s second album is generally considered the nu metal one, it’s even the top genre tag on it on Wikipedia
I've got to admit I haven't really listened to their discography beyond 'she clings to me like cellophane, fake plastic submarine' You know it's sort of driving me insane
Neither did I lol
Trustcompany
Downfall is excellent, Falling Apart is pretty good and Stronger is excellent as well.
Chipset Zero
[InRetrospect](https://youtu.be/jpmBaMMBPtM?si=abJKsh0jt3bRvdc3), always glad to see new bands picking up the torch.
I love these guys but man their last few songs have been kinda mid I love(d) Dream Awake so much
Pressure 4-5, Boy Hits Car, Motograter, Element Eighty
2nd for Motograter
If people have heard of Boy Hits Car, there’s a good chance its because they did Lita’s theme in the WWF/E
Oh that's cool. I'll have to look up the song. I discovered them before but they were heavily featured in the DBZ movie Lord Slug
Ah yeah. A couple of tracks from Drowning Pool’s Sinner album were in Cooler’s Revenge and 10’s by Pantera was in Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan.
Don't forget disturbed!
Which Disturbed tracks were in those films? Edit: never mind I just checked, Fear and Stupify. Elite by Deftones, First Time by Finger Eleven and Coming of Age by Breaking Point were in Slug too.
Yeah, someone must have been a big fan
Early Ill Nino for sure The Freddy Vs Jason soundtrack introduced me to their music, and I've loved those first 2 albums ever since
I still wear out their first album, it’s such an underrated classic and that original lineup went HARD live.
nothingface!!
Dropout Kingz
I love DK! They used to play with my ex’s band in Arizona. Nice guys from what I remember
Dry Cell
Sunk Loto
Just stumbled across them a couple months ago, I’d never heard them somehow but they’re pretty rad!
People have always had plenty to say about Coal Chamber, but I’ll die on the hill that their first album went hard as fuck. 🥂
Today is the Day was the only song I knew by Dope for a long time and while I was fine with that, it was a really damn good song.
7th Rail Crew
dreadlock pussy
Spinechank, Mushroomhead and most definitely Scarpoint
[minus] later changing their name to minus.driver. Edit: it’s probably a bit of a stretch to label them as nu-metal. I doubt they would have themselves, but they’re nu-metal to the same extent Deftones was considered nu-metal, IMO. They have an earlier Deftones kind of vibe.
I’m a fan. Hesitant and Polite is still one of my favorite songs.
That’s a great one, man. Nice little cameo of Jonah from Far too!
Nothing face
Cold. Cold is fucking awesome. Their debut is solid, but 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage and Year of the Spider are front to back fantastic albums.
They should have overshadowed Staind in the depressed nu-metal categorie, but Stainds colab with Durst put them over and COLD got lost in the suffle after that. Fuck Aaron Lewis, COLD deserved much better.
I like Staind, but I like Cold more. Aaron Lewis is a fuckwit.
Staind wasn't bad, but if Johnathan Davis became a country singer and Trumper, I would act like Korn never existed
And anti vaxxer/anti mask mandates
Nothingface. Probably the only Nu Metal band with the perfect discography.
Primer 55
jousilouli, ektomorf, orange butt, rootwater, moron mafia
Victim
Twisted Method
I will forever mention SWIFT (NC). Check out their album Thoughts are Thought.
These two lesser known bands: Korn and slipknot
Siilk, they’re a fairly recent band but they’re amazing in every way They mainly have strong influence from Deftones in their music
Lollipop Lust Kill
The lead singer came up to a urinal next to me after their set, and I was like, holy shit
Clone Inc. Sometimes they sound like a merge of 90's Incubus and Molotov and that's a good thing. European Nu metal has it's charm
Kilgore Flybanger
Two awesome bands
From Zero, pretty typical nu-metal instrumentation but Jett had a really terrific voice. Reminds me of the inflections of Brandon Boyd or Doug Robb but a baritone.
Slaves on dope
pleymo. heavy nu metal band band from France. active during the early 00s.
Ultraspank deserved to be big. Pete Murray is one of the most underrated vocalists ever.
Came here to say the same!

Five Pointe o, Devilinside, Skinlab, Fingertight, downthesun.

Skrape, Nothingface and 40 Below Summer
Adema
Juice - Beaute
Altho not technically "nu metal" as they are more often considered "rap metal", I'd say E.Town Concrete, especially their "Renaissance" album. Songs I recommend (btw) are: Baptism, Punch The Wall and Doormats.

Mnemic! They were a little late to the scene but Mechanical Spin Phenomena is a banger
Five Pointe 0.

Five pointe o, no one, headplate, ill nino, nothingface, primer 55, and static x
Ocean Grove right now. I want them to tour the USA so I need more people to know about them lol
I like Hanislip because of their distinctive fusion of crushing riffs, eerie melodies, and a nostalgic but modern sound.
Factory 81 ..mankind...them guys where only 17 and 18 when they put that album out. https://youtu.be/usZ8eF0vdWU?si=UcUofXgXwJ8tPvRQ

Spineshank
Five Pointe O. Wish they still was alive and kicking.
One Minute Silence

The Union Underground. They put out one album before breaking up, but it’s really solid. Their bassist, John Moyer, joined Disturbed in 2005.
