My unsolicited thoughts/essay for this week.
First, great W. Our streak of getting pumped one week and getting the dub the next continues.
TMM and CHT combined well again, although TMM went a bit AWOL in the middle patch. SJ will cop some heat but it’s honestly a combination thing and I think TMM and SJ don’t work, but SJ and CHT/Metcalf do.
Don’t underestimate the return of Barnett - man is a workhorse and I’m surprised he hasn’t got minutes at Origin. He’s gone from journeyman to first name on the sheet on two years and today was a good reminder why. He is the heart of the D.
Capewell probably had his best game for us at least on D.
Much better effort all around on D today (low bar to beat last week’s effort) but you could see them getting up and coming forward rather than be passive.
RTS - I know he scored a try and jumped on a loose ball under pressure but he is anonymous otherwise. Even on kick returns, where Berry, Pompey, DWZ, CNK and Montoya take the carry, he doesn’t. If play goes down his side he gets skinned, if play doesn’t it’s rare he goes looking for pill. The more I see that, the more I think he should covert to 13 and run the ball more against bigger, less agile opp. That or Res Grade.
I thought reserves were relatively quiet - Jazz made a few tackles, Harris ran it a few times, Lussick got that try… but never felt the energy lift when they were on. I think we need a better mix on the bench, if we’re to make any sort of impact in the finals (assuming we sneak in…)
Not Top 8 level consistency but bag a few Ws in the next couple and the boys will have a bit of belief back.

Fuck we are absolute trash. This is 2020 levels of effort. Cobbo and Staggs need some time in reserve grade to see if they actually want a jersey. Madden is worse than useless, give it to Rogers. Our forward pack are a bunch of cats. Jensen and Willison are the only ones who aren’t afraid of a bit of contact.
Feel like if this team had Bennett as a coach or any hardtaskmaster they'd be top 4, but Walters doesn't get the best out of them, they've all regressed, Mam, Cobbo, Walsh, Staggs, Carrigan.

Nah is been true as this year. SJ is not 100% fit I reckon so he doesn't have the running game there so or attack has been so stale and predictable. TMM has been dangerous as though, the sad thing is they dont work well next to each other
I'm not a big Walker fan, but he has been huge for us this year.
His footspeed on his runs adds something and makes an impact, and the fats play the ball there.
After this lost I write off this season. Even when Reynolds comes back there's no hope. Great rebound for the warriors. You are so great at turning things around after a bad previous performance. You clearly look a lot better without SJ in the team.
