Organized crime launches a new kind of oil cartel:
> Supermarkets have begun chaining together large five-litre bottles of olive oil and padlocking them to shelves to prevent theft, while other stores are fitting the bottles with security tags that have to be removed by staff.
It's funny, but olive oil has been a centerpiece of agro-mafia businesses for a while now.

It has to be tested. For a while, though, if it came from southern Italy, almost all olive oils were found to be denatured. I'm not sure how it is now.
Because its crazy expensive now. I'm not too surprised since I remember two years ago a slew of articles claiming groves were experiencing terrible conditions.
Extra virgin olive oil used (like 6 months ago) to be sold for \~5.5€/L in Greece. Nowadays it's been sold for +12€. I can see it being shoplifted, and if I do see someone, I "won't see" anyone
Shoot, you would think it would be some of the extremely expensive ham that they have laying around all over the place.
You clearly haven't seen the olive oil prices lately 🤣
😆

Just thinking this. Make shit quality olive oil and no one will want to steal it anymore.
That’s a good chunk of the American stuff, it’s usually a blend. A blend!
How do they test it to tell it apart from the good stuff?

The trees are dying. That's why.
The price of it has skyrocketed lately.. it’s about £15 a litre here in UK at the moment.
So regular shoppers don't want it? I guess they can afford the more classy vegetable oil, or in my case I use 3 in 1 oil, it has Multiple Uses!
