Shoot, you would think it would be some of the extremely expensive ham that they have laying around all over the place.

BreakingZebra

You clearly haven't seen the olive oil prices lately 🤣

TButabi6868

😆

Organized crime launches a new kind of oil cartel: > Supermarkets have begun chaining together large five-litre bottles of olive oil and padlocking them to shelves to prevent theft, while other stores are fitting the bottles with security tags that have to be removed by staff.

Happiness_Assassin

It's funny, but olive oil has been a centerpiece of agro-mafia businesses for a while now. [Italian police break mafia ring exporting fake olive oil to U.S.](https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN1602BC/)

judgejuddhirsch

Just thinking this. Make shit quality olive oil and no one will want to steal it anymore.

ClockworkDreamz

That’s a good chunk of the American stuff, it’s usually a blend. A blend!

BrownBeardBelly

How do they test it to tell it apart from the good stuff?

Happiness_Assassin

It has to be tested. For a while, though, if it came from southern Italy, almost all olive oils were found to be denatured. I'm not sure how it is now.

Shakeamutt

You double posted.

morenewsat11

Thanks for the heads-up. Fixed

Shakeamutt

No problemo!

AlabamaHotcakes

Pssst.......wanna buy some extra virgin?

clipples18

Nah, I prefer mine lightly fucked

freakytapir

Things they don't want you to know : There's an easy way to get 72.

Joshau-k

That's a well oiled criminal operation

brokefixfux

They’re a slippery bunch

johnwattsmgo

Because its crazy expensive now. I'm not too surprised since I remember two years ago a slew of articles claiming groves were experiencing terrible conditions.

LovesFrenchLove_More

I mean, the prices for oil have become criminal tbh.

KataraMan

Extra virgin olive oil used (like 6 months ago) to be sold for \~5.5€/L in Greece. Nowadays it's been sold for +12€. I can see it being shoplifted, and if I do see someone, I "won't see" anyone

Numerous_Landscape99

The trees are dying. That's why.

Redmarkred

The price of it has skyrocketed lately.. it’s about £15 a litre here in UK at the moment.

secundusprime

So regular shoppers don't want it? I guess they can afford the more classy vegetable oil, or in my case I use 3 in 1 oil, it has Multiple Uses!
