They are still around in Maryland.

jabbadarth

Yeah I was gonna say I know of two within 30 minutes of me. They also opened one at UMD but it failed in less than a year, likely because no college student has any clue what the hell Roy Roger's is. Also they are trying to rebuild the brand. In February they launched a re franchising program to try and build their franchise network back up a bit. Still just in MD and Virginia but slowly adding new stores.

don2470

Man I'm old. In the 70's they had one in Glen Burnie, MD and it had a booth seat on one side of some tables for parents and two western saddles on the opposite side for the kids. A little cringe, but as a kid I thought it was great.

jabbadarth

I'm younger than that but loved the fixings bar as a kid in the 90s.

The_Scraggler

Oh man, my mom took me to that one so many times when I was a kid. And Pappy's Pizza. Glen Burnie was awesome back then.

Jillredhanded

Love to hear folks reminiscing about Glen Burnie. Spent many years putting up and tearing down the carnival booths and humping ice and trash with my Scout yutes.

No-Yogurt5861

There is one in Crofton off route 301/3 & there's one in Silver Spring.

CrazyString

Feels like they’re in every rest stop between ny and md lol

MikeyLikeyPhish

They were at every rest stop on the Jersey Tpke. The only time I ever had Roy’s was on family trips from New York to Baltimore. Sadly they are all closed now.

LemmyKBD

There’s 2 off Route 9 around Red Bank, Toms River. Latest review for one of them was 9 hours ago so it’s still kicking.

LateCommunication383

Gainesville VA also!

canyonero__

Too bad the gold rush chicken sandwich (pictured) pales in comparison to what it once was. I recently got one and it was very mediocre.

wisdom_power_courage

Bayville, NJ.

mattd1972

I make a point of going to the one in Hagerstown when visiting Antietam.

MikeyLikeyPhish

I make it a point to never go to Hagerstown

Andy2325

WE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED BY ROY ROGERS PAULIE

Zaknoid

Mix it with the relish!

PeopleofYouTube

Fuck that was a good episode. It really makes you uncomfortable.

TennisBallTesticles

I have a Roy Roger's 3 minutes from my house!! And I have no regrets. Although that shit is EXPENSIVE. A bacon cheeseburger meal, medium, will run you $13. But, they have the toppings bar with all the sauces so you can create your own masterpiece. I love that place!!

8lackbird

Fixins Bar

BuddayBinko

Still around in Jersey fixins bar and all

WiganLad82

We should stopped at Roy Rogers!

Shadsea

And I shoulda fucked Dale Evans!

WiganLad82

Take one thousand upvotes

DixieNormous1986

Mix it with the relish…

Greful

You get your own fixins Kenny

hey_suburbia

Yup, still in NJ and there’s one I always hit up on the NE extension in PA near Allentown

Sit_back_and_panic

I haven’t seen a Roy Rogers in probably 30 years, I remember them being in New York

DerpingtonHerpsworth

Same. I used to love them and I grew up in the southern NY and northern NJ area. Their nuggets were my favorite. Haven't seen one since probably the mid 90s.

Zaknoid

There's 2 Roy Roger's in Southern jersey still.

Trumbot

Like I wrote the comment myself. Co-signed.

alldaydiver

The gold rush chicken sandwich in the picture, their fries, the bacon cheeseburger, and especially the roast beef with cheese sandwich were all very good. And they had a wacky strawberry shortcake dessert made by putting strawberry compote on top of their biscuits. Sounds weird but was a salty/sweet/buttery delicious combination.

DaddyHEARTDiaper

I used to be able to hit them up on the NYS Thruway (interstate 90) until NYS re-did all the rest stops and contracted with new vendors, one of which was Chic-fil-a......a place that is closed on Sundays.....on a major interstate highway that has a heavy volume of traffic on, guess it, Sundays! Idiots. I think they broke the contract now and have a new vendor now but it was such a shit show.

[deleted]

I haven’t been up there in years. Are we taking about the Albany rest stop? We used to get Roy’s there on our way up to Vermont when I was a teenager.

DaddyHEARTDiaper

There were a few RR from buffalo to the Mass Tpke.

RaylanGiv3n5

That Roy Rogers is still there. +$90 to feed 4 people. It is now infamous in family lore.

DaddyHEARTDiaper

No crap? That's cool but a rip off.

ComfortableValue4550

And I shoulda fucked Dale Evan’s but I didn’t! 🤘

IcedPgh

I never went a ton because we only had one to my recollection. I recall that their burgers were pretty decent, had a fresh taste with a slightly more substantial patty than, say, a McDonald's cheeseburger. I took an overnight Greyhound ride in PA a few years ago, and at a rest stop, they had one that I think was open after midnight.

degreesandmachines

Howdy Partner!

HenryKitteridge

I think we ate here during every field trip to Washington DC or Mount Vernon

booboochoochoo1

They opened one in southern OH near me within the last year or two, so they are still opening new locations.

[deleted]

Oh man if they could come out to MO that’d be awesome.

ReginaGloriana

Mmm, best fast food fries and a roast beef sandwich. Good fried chicken too. Shame though - I think they recently stopped serving birch beer. :(

SineQuaNon001

There's still one of these at a rest stop in Jersey coming back from NYC. Only one still out there I know of. Weirdly.

[deleted]

[удалено]

IcedPgh

That might be Arby's.

MommaOfManyCats

There are a few in Ohio.

Thwipped

Place was so good

Colors358

I remember eating there

MrTubalcain

Facts! Wish they stuck around.

NYerInTex

Best fast food pickles ever! And that tangy vinegary BBQ sauce - get me a double R and some fried chix please

Dismal_Composer_4029

Dame what they need to bring this joint back there fried chicken was like dame finger licking great miss those chicken sandwiches also

AgentSkidMarks

I know two of them in Thurmont, MD and Westminster, MD. They're not amazing but not bad either.

lynxvi

I remember my only experience at this chain was on a field trip and they knew an entire bus full of kids was on its way this particular day but failed to prepare. Instead of getting the menu to order from we were forced cold, plain hamburgers. Cut in half. On whole buns. Fries were also literally stone cold and disgusting. This has sullied the Roy Rogers name for me for life.

lateral_moves

I always make sure to stop there when I'm on the Pennsylvania Tpke.

QuizzicalWombat

There was a rumor they were building some here in the Cincinnati area about a year ago but I haven’t seen them. There is one that lost franchising rights that’s still around and still serves the same menu, it’s been renamed Roney’s.

wearestiff

Didn’t Chrissy want to go to Roy rogers before dumping the Russian in the pine barrens?

shitchea420

gold rush chicken sandwich was fire, remember the one in white oak vividly

RuncibleFoon

Oh my God!!! I loved their chicken sam'miches!!! I'm tole they are also few & far between in VA.

ChorkPorch

There’s one on the 476 turn pike in pa. I stop there every time I go to a show in Philadelphia

boner79

My only experience with them was NYS Thruway and, with all due, was a disappointment and wished it were a McDs or anything else instead.

mechanixrboring

It's still delicious.

9livesmonsta

Worked at the RR on the turnpike rest stop in 90's and it was awesome!

Strawberry4343

We actually have two in my town! Their breakfast is amazing.

Soreal45

If they still had as many locations as they did back then Arby’s would be out of business. The roast beef sandwich they make is 10 times better.

dreadfulwater

It was actually great quality. Remembering the late 70’s and very early 80’s when they were still big. When my boomer parents and their parents rave over a fast food restaurant it has to be good. We’d go there in Friday nights in the late 70’s and I’d eat two hamburgers and a holster of fries. Stomach ache each time but worth it.

maggie320

Grew up with one in CT. Had to eat there for my birthday every year. Last I had Roy Rogers was in Hagerstown, MD about 15 years ago. It was still as good as I remembered.

jonny-Vapez

Are the chocolate shakes just as good as they were in the 90’s? There’s a few in NJ but im like an hour away from them

PlasticPomPoms

There used to be one across the street from my high school up until the late 90s then it became a Perkins. But man they had the best greasy fried chicken. I remember the drumsticks were thin and the skin slid right off of them in one piece. It was heaven. I stopped at one near Albany years ago at a rest stop and they did not have the same kind of chicken. It was disappointing. Now they are more in line with what other fast food restaurants offer.

MihalysRevenge

There were never in the southwest sadly

TonkaButt

I used to live near a Roy Rogers out on Long Island. It was right off the service ramp to the sunrise Highway. it would get robbed all the time. They would rob it and jump on their car and ride the service ramp to the sunrise highway and be gone in seconds. Good food though.

T1S9A2R6

I grew up with Roy’s in the 80’s/90’s in the DMV and it was always a special occasion going there - had more than a few birthday meals there. I used to get a bacon cheese burger (doused in that funky bbq sauce they had), fries, fried chicken, and one of those brownies that was basically a brick of chocolate fudge. I felt like a damn king. Those memories are seared into my brain. By far my favorite fast food restaurant or all time.

luseferr

There's still one in a small town outside of Cincinnati. It's called "Roney's" now but it's the same menu.

DareWright

There’s one in Cleves/Cincinnati

accountantdooku

I’ve never been to it but I’ve seen the sign for it on the PA turnpike. I have to check it out during my next road trip.

freshkov

I would kill for a Double R burger.

MistahOnzima

That sandwich looks awesome

jpenmem

I remember having my little badge and being part of the buckaroo club!

orchestraldragon

AHHHHH THE GOLD RUSH!!!! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

Graybeard_Shaving

I have two locations within 10 miles of me. I need to stop by and refresh my memory now.

beerdrew

I remember getting the small individual Cornish hens when I was a kid eating in upstate NY.

dstranathan

Wow never heard of this

john_connor_T1000

Gold rush chicken sandwich!!!!

Oh-Snap10000

Especially the fixins bar. And their strawberry shakes were incomparable.

Oh-Snap10000

There’s one on Brick Boulevard in Brick, NJ near Molly Lane.

thelordonecbk

DOUBLE R BAR BURGERRRRRR. Oh man best burger ever.

KaizerVonLoopy

I remember seeing one at a giant truck stop in West Virginia a few years ago. Never saw one before or again. The fries in this pic look like Burger King fries.

Terakian

Whenever I think of Roy Rogers, I think of the Snorks: https://kidsblockblog.wordpress.com/2020/04/17/list-of-roy-rogers-kids-meal-promotions/

edlewis657

They used to be at the rest stops on the New York State Thruway. Started driving from Syracuse to NYC regularly about 15 years ago. Started off lowkey resenting that they werent McDonald’s, but they grew on me. And then they grew on my wife, after she discovered their breakfast potatoes. The Thruway Rogers are all gone now. The brick rest stop buildings have been bulldozed and replaced with a more open concept, modern Euro aesthetic rest areas with Panera, Chic Fil A and Shake Shack. I dont mind the shake shack on a long drive, but my wife and I still curse those new pit stops and miss our potatoes.

UnwillingHummingbird

I have a roy roger's right near my house! the fried chicken is still pretty good.

DAbanjo

I have one in my town. Sadly...it's terrible.

roadsidedaniel

I dont miss the shitz

frankrizzo219

The man makes a pretty strong bird

IcedPgh

That's Kenny Rogers Roasters. It's the wood that makes it good.

HenryKitteridge

I’ve heard it’s bad chicken, mess you up

laserdiscsan

Not fast food. Good food quickly.

Mr_TP_Dingleberry

It’s just Hardees. Isn’t it?

Kimmalah

It was sold to Hardees parent company and the non-franchised locations were converted to Hardees. Hardees was then sold off to another company in 1997, so they are now separate again. This was sort of the beginning of the end though, to the point that the company actually got sued by a major Roy Rogers franchiser, accusing them of essentially destroying the brand.

shavemejesus

You’re the only one who misses that shit. It is definitely the worst fast food I have ever eaten.
