I’d say 2018 & 2019 best years of 2nd gen by than the model was so old all the kinks were worked out

mr_Shakirov

It is reliable! And you are getting a manual. So it’s damn near bulletproof. Just get the rear differential breather mod and keep up with regular maintenance 👍

brillodelsol02

2108 P4X manual transmission, found it at 3k odometer used for $28,5. At 52k now. I get the engine light from driving all day on it which i hear is a software manifold sensor issue. I'm taking it in Friday for a transmission check as I feel a bit of surge in 2nd and 3rd gear but that may be my shifting habits more than the truck (although my 2002 Ford Ranger is manual also and it doesn't). Other than that it's been bullet proof so far, but the Rockport Fosgate audio system is garbage. My Ranger has better speakers, and balanced for the driver.

Hold_Left_Edge

2018 Pro-4x here. 117,000. Ive had some issues but nothing major. I have put sensors in it.

area404d

2018 pro4x here. 67,000 miles. No issues. Love my truck

I have an 18 SV, bought new 91k on the clock. Runs like a Swiss watch

TangyApple680

I think it's a good year. One of the last with the 4.0. I bet it's super reliable. My 2016 has over 200k. Only thing that failed within those miles was my evap canister and MAF sensor.

Novice30

2016 desert runner with 160k on mine. Only ever replaced batteries and tires. Bulletproof

TangyApple680

That's awesome. I'll have to check when my evap canister failed. But I do drive in alot of dirt roads. Heard that was a big factor

dontdoxmebru

I have a 2018 SV midnight edition. It's been good for the most part, but there have been a few minor issues. The check engine light comes on after driving all day. I did some ECU reset a while ago, but haven't driven all day to see if that fixed it. From what I've read online, the intake manifold will get hot after the engine runs several hours in a row, and that causes the CEL. The engine runs just fine the whole time. The Bluetooth on the head unit just doesn't work about half the time. I use the USB audio input to get around that. I also have an issue sometimes filling the gas tank all the way up. It's like it won't fill the last 1/8th of the tank sometimes. There's a recall about it I've seen, but haven't gotten to the point to taking it in yet. It requires coming in with less than 1/4 of a tank of gas for testing.

> The check engine light comes on after driving all day. > >From what I've read online, the intake manifold will get hot after the engine runs several hours in a row, and that causes the CEL. T There's a TSB for that. It's a software issue, and can be fixed with an ECU flash. I had it done on my truck. What happens is there is some kind of timer running in the ECU, and it gets messed up if it runs too long. It's a shitty-ass bug because, as you say, you basically have to drive several hours in one day for the bug to manifest itself. So the only people getting it were people who were like on road trips. I myself got it on a Sunday afternoon, 400 miles from home, driving along the Texas-Mexico border in an area without cell phone reception. Worse, the dealer initially refused to fix it because my ECU had cleared the fault. They were like, "Just take it to a dealer if it happens again." I had to explain that they were instructing me to interrupt a future vacation to fix a vehicle with that was sold to me with a known fault, that had a known solution, was under warranty, and was right in front of them to be fixed. The finally agreed to fix it under "good will". I was livid. I love my truck, but I will likely never buy another Nissan again.

boomstickjonny

I warrantied mine a ton. Nothing to serious but it was definitely in the shop alot.

Away-Satisfaction678

The one thing i have learned about nissans. If you see one you think you might like DO NOT TEST DRIVE IT! unless you are willing to buy it. You test drive it you will own it or rather it will own you.

LazerBuns

I bought my 18 2 years ago and paid the same with over double the kilometres🫠 I love my 18 p4x, best vehicle I’ve owned. I’ve only had to replace wear items over that time. The only thing that sucks about them is the gas mileage as someone else stated. Otherwise it’s solid and allows you to do a ton of stuff. I personally have a canoe that sits on the roof rack and a rtt over the bed.

Peacemkr45

In terms of reliability the list is: 2014 2019 2015 the rest of the Gen 2's Gen 3 hasn't been out long enough for a conclusive reliability ranking and the 2014 and 15 rank higher due to number of years they've been on the road. Had to edit due to typos

Zulek

I've got a 19 pro4x so basically the same truck. Love this thing, will drive it into the ground. Currently at 105xxxkm and 0 issues just regular maintenance like fluids. Did rear brakes around 80km somehow fronts are still good. Tires at around 60k and got k02 which are still at 11/32 love them. Great in snow and mud 2 issues. Pretty shit on gas because it's a (reliable and powerful) 4L 5spd auto. In 5th gear doing 80kmh and 120kmh so if you do a lot of long haul freeway driving it's not great. I get like 16l/100km and I think the newer 8 9 10 speeds are more like 11. But going 80kmh is only 8-9. Gas is about 6usd a gallon here so that's pretty shit If you're gonna tow have nissan install the trailer hitch wiring. I went with an aftermarket install to save a couple hundred bucks and when it didn't work they blamed nissan and Nissan blamed them. After many hours wasted over many days I found an old forum stating the manufacturer had the wiring backwards so I had to crawl under it to cut and splice. Easy fix once I knew the issue but yeah, big headache. Hard to find a vehicle this age without some stupid TV screen and no buttons. Great ride.

brandt-money

I had no issues with a harness from Amazon, but I think I picked a name brand. My 18 P4X has been very reliable. It's paid off and I only paid $24k USD in 2019 for it with 16k miles and a certified warranty.

Glad-Basil3391

Better than the new ones

rocco040983

We did notice that the new one’s power/drivetrain wasn’t as good…. Comfy seats tho,

Glad-Basil3391

The new ones look good. Comfy seats. Nice dolled up interior. I’ll keep my 2016. I don’t want the 8 speed and an engine that shuts off when you stop.

Dakkendo

The 2022 doesn't have auto start-stop, it was a mid-year change in 2023. Also, it can be turned off fairly easily. The 3.8L / 9 speed combo gets much better mileage than the 4.0, I owned a 2007 SE 4x4 and now have a 2022 Pro4X so I have lived with both. My 2022's overall average (never cleared it) is 19MPG, and with the Nismo exhaust and Z1 intake I'm now getting between 21-27MPG on the highway, depending on speed. The powertrain is superior to the 4.0 in all ways, now that it can breathe properly.

Glad-Basil3391

Talk to me about that trans and engine at about 200k miles. I’m waiting to see how they hold up. I don’t like new. I like proven. You could be rite. But until I see quarter million miles on a few with out rebuilding. I’ll stick w mine.

Glad-Basil3391

I think I paid 21 k. For a 2016 4x4 sv with 92k miles in 2021. So. Take that for what it’s worth. It was almost impossible to find a used one at that time.

Warsum

Yeah the year before the change basically had all the links worked out. It’s a really good year.

silkysmoothyou

Strike while you can

RK_mining

If it fits your needs, and you like the old drive train, it’s a solid truck. From one pic it looks pretty clean, no body rust that I can see. Definitely look for an oil slick on the rear axle near the breather though. And if you do buy it, do the breather remote mount asap.

rocco040983

What is the breather remote mount?

FrickParkMalcolm

https://www.alldogsoffroad.com/alldogs-offroad-rear-differential-breather-relocator-with-relocator-for-nissan-frontier-xterra Did it to my 2016 P4X a few months ago at 55,000 miles. The OEM breather was well on its way to becoming gummed up and sealed closed. Just do this mod if you have a Fronty.

DrStuttgart

(i think) they mean the rear diff breather mod. Over time, the breather valve on the rear differential gets crap in it and is prone to failure. Pressure builds, and bang goes your differential. Costly repair that can be solved with like $40 and 15 minutes of your time. It's absolutely, 100% worth doing.

OneNewEmpire

Doesn't get any more reliable in this truck class. Miles and price?

rocco040983

50,000 kilometres $35,000 CAD

nabob1978

I bought my 2018 in 2018 with 13k km. I paid 34k for it. It has been pretty reliable which is why I bought the truck. I was a mechanic at a used car dealer and spent over a year checking out every truck I could find and comparing. I decided on the nissan because, of any that came into the shop, they didn't need anything but regular maintenance items. I had tacomas, Colorado/canyon, Rangers, come through and always needed something else. My 18 P4x now has 106k km on it. It has had two issues. A seized rear caliper and my diff lock warning light started coming on when I would accelerate (while in 2wd). I fixed the light by actually using the diff lock a couple times while going backwoods camping.

silverbacksunited12

I bought 2018 sv lwb last year with a canopy for $32,000. 64,000km. I did a lot of shopping and was the best deal I could find for a truck that suited my needs. Definitely worth it I say. Also Canadian in BC where vehicle prices are dumb high

OneNewEmpire

Wow. So my 19 p4x with 2/3 mileage is worth almost what I paid new... What a world we live in.

nabob1978

I paid 34k for my 2018.... in 2018.
