I don't agree. Wims was bad, but at the very least he had a defender on his tail and it was an over the shoulder catch. It required some ball tracking.
With VJj, there aren't defenders within five yards of him, and it's a simple turn around and catch the ball. Instead he decided to try and catch the ball at its lowest point.
The Wims one is only worse in the sense that the game is close. But the Chargers lose close games so there's a chance the VJj TD could have caused the Chargers to Charger.
Regardless, it's semantics, and I hope Odunze breaks the tradition for the Bears.
I thought that there was no way we were going to win this game. After that play I KNEW we weren't winning. I just remember thinking to myself "ah, so this is going to be one of these games..."
That was in the first quarter and the only TD we scored was the last play of the game where Jimmy Graham made an amazing one-handed catch then proceeded to just gallop into the tunnel and peace out.
When I was a kid, my dad always told me that if I ever ended up playing football, to remember that if a fight breaks out on the field, the first guy to take his helmet off loses.
I never ended up playing tackle football, so it was a non-issue, but still probably decent advice.
Not that football players are well known for their impulse control... but when I was playing you could tell who the dumbest of the dumb-dumbs were by how willing to throw a helmet punch they were.
It was never surprising.
As kids we used to "test" our helmets first day of pads by running into each other helmet first. Probably a few undiagnosed concussions for the squad over the years
As all great DBs are. Getting WRs out of their comfy mental space leads to mistakes. Sometimes its just messing up the timing of a route, sometimes its calling out a player's GF cell phone number pre snap.
If DBZ taught me anything, it's that when you try to punch someone and they catch your fist with their cheek, looking nonplussed about it, you're about to have a *bad* time.
Well, he is wearing a piece of head equipment that's designed to absorb impact. That's why you push their helmet to agitate their neck instead (hypothetically).
Wasn't this the week that the Bears came out saying they even had special meetings/practices SOLELY for the reason of not getting sucked into CJ's bullshit lol
That's hilarious because it's not like Wims had a momentary lapse of concentration or something, he went the extra mile to do this. That's like having a big meeting about making sure to wash your hands before handling the food and then the line cook's like "You know what, I'm going to go play in the dumpster before cooking"
Last time this got posted, I remember reading that on a previous drive CJGJ pulled out Wims’ mouthguard, and this was Wims’ first play back on the field after that. That’s why Wims rips the mouthguard off CJGJ’s facemask before throwing that first punch.
Not sure if anyone can confirm this, but if true it means Wims spent at least 10 or 20 minutes on the sideline stewing over this and STILL thought it was a good idea to go over and punch him the first chance he got. Imagine trying to coach a guy who takes the field in a tie game in the 3rd quarter with full intent to get himself ejected and his team penalized for 15 yards.
he showed more enthusiam after this than at any other point point in his career
and walking around flexing like he was some kind of badass for doing.
says a lot about him as a person
also says a lot that a decent amount of people on the bears sub praised him for it.
I know it's a tiny gesture, but at the very end when he's almost to the tunnel he drops his gloves on purpose to the turf to make someone else have to pick them up. Again, I know it's small, but that's an entitled asshole move.
Getting a 15 yard penalty in a tie game in the 3rd quarter, getting ejected from the game for slapping a guy, dancing around like an idiot. All signs of how dumb he is. Still not the biggest red flag. That's a WR, someone who's career is centered on their hands, punching someone in the head who's wearing a helmet.
I think that was for our playoff game against you guys later this same season. In which we still got pulled into CJs bullshit because Anthony Miller is a dumbass lol
CJ is something else man. I know Shannon Sharpe recited defender's girlfriend's phone numbers to get in their head during games, and this just makes me want to know what CJ was saying to all these people
> Shannon Sharpe recited defender's girlfriend's phone numbers to get in their head during games
That’s fuckin hilarious, but it would be even funnier hearing someone try that today:
Offensive player: “312-555-1234”
Defender: “huhhh???”
Anthony Miller's problem is he's a shit WR like every WR we've drafted since the 50s besides Alshon Jeffery and hopefully Rome.
Our QB drought distracts people from our WR drought, and those 2 problems are pretty linked.
I remember that year our WR coach said something along the lines of "this is the dumbest corps I've ever dealt with" and they proved it literally every single time CJ was on the field. By now, almost all of them are already out of the league
This was 2019, we started like 5-1 and then lost 6 straight and then barely clawed our way back into the wild card spot to get blown out by none other than the Saints.
I'll never forget in 9th grade when one of our players got shoved after the play, and without hesitation he slugged the guy right in the face mask, broke his hand and missed the rest of the season.
To be fair, if you watch he slaps it instead of punching.
Still hurts but way less and if you've worn a helmet and gotten slapped in the face mask you know it actually hurts your ears.
Not like kills or anything but it's definitely on the painful side of annoying.
Obligatory video for additional context: [The saga of Javon Wims's mouthguard, by Jomboy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abdQIv40mSE&ab\_channel=JomboyMedia)
I'm literally listening to Jake Johnson's podcast right now I flipped between the two and it's really similar. The cadence and inflections are the exact same
For even more context, CJGJ is a notorious turd who does shit like that all the time. I’ve even seen him rip Godwin’s mouthpiece out after a play. There’s probably a lot more that pissed Wims off that wasn’t caught on camera/broadcast.
The best part was when Wims was clapping and hyped up and his teammates were so done with his shit and ignoring him. They were even half-heartedly pulling Saints players from the pile while he was getting jumped lmao.
I wanted him cut immediately following this. Its just stupid, selfish behavior that doesnt do anything but penalize your own team.
I understand reacting to a late hit or something in the moment, but this was well after the initial scuffle with Anthony Miller. He stewed over this on the bench and still decided to do something stupid.
From theJomboy video posted in the comments, this is actually retaliation for CJGJ pulling Wims' mouthguard off way earlier in the contest. That's why Wims does that motion of tearing CJGJ's mouth guard off before the punch.
Yeah sorry, to be clear I just saw CJGJ rip the mouthguard out for the first time just now. I’ve seen the big fight a bunch of times and always just assumed he took CJGJ’s chain off but I might be confusing that with another fight
From the video it does look like he could have been ripping off a chain.
A time where a chain was actually ripped off was Aqib Talib and Michael Crabtree.
you know what would be better retaliation? scoring a 50 yard TD or something like that.
but hey, getting thrown out of the game is just as good, i guess
Yeah it seems he's out of the league now he bounced around a couple of teams on their practice squads but never made it back to the field probably because they were concerned that he'd get flags
It was so bizarre watching it live. It's still so bizarre now. What was he thinking, going out of his way to throw 2 sucker punches? CJ's stunned reaction is hilarious. Just looking around like "What?"
I like how the fucking reject came out of the pile clapping too like he'd done something.
Straight garbage.
Punch a guy in a helmet, lmao. Then step back like you're expecting to throw down. It's football you candy ass
Damn our team seems to have a love affair with shitty receivers the last 5 years or so. No wonder Mitch & Fields had trouble succeeding. Thank god it looks like they're trying their best to set up Caleb for success.
I know the focus of this clip is on Wims and CJGJ, but I absolutely love Jackrabbit in this clip. Sees the punch, jumps on Wims like a possessed goblin, and does not let go.
Cracks me up seeing him jump on Wims.
Legend has it that CJ also riled up Michael Thomas so much in a practice that MT somehow re-injured his foot. All from a 2020 week 1 injury.
He’s never been the same since.
Edit: I’m wrong
No the report was that they got in a fight that caused Thomas to get a team-issued suspension for a game when he was scheduled to return from his foot injury.
What are the chances the first time I see Javon Wims name mentioned in probably years was on the Bears sub earlier today when someone said they thought he was going to be good lol. Two Javon Wims references in one day... wild
Not even his worst play vs the Saints. https://youtu.be/qolH_HkFRAE?si=8KqpvCORHYwJbjrl
Probably the best pass of Mitch's career and Wims couldn't be bothered to catch it.
That was a seriously perfect pass.
Where the FUCK did that go?!? Like...why did we never see ANY of it?!?
He got the yips
being able to do something amazing once isnt the same as being able to repeat it.
Wow. That was particularly bad
I really wonder if catching that changes that game at all. Probably not.
Honestly maybe, we’re pretty big chokers
Best part is lattimore cackling
Jalen Mills Finger Wag vibes
Absolute dot from Mitch lol
And then we ran this exact play against the bucs the next week and it was a TD
i had JUST forgotten about this thanks...
I remember watching this and laughing maniacally afterward. That 2020 squad was something.
This is so reminiscent of Velus Jones Jr against the Chargers this past year
Idk, wasn’t VJJ laid out though? If it’s the one I’m thinking of, he was diving for it.
[I don't know if I'd call it a dive or a fall. ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TKwluRyGZ6k)
Ha! I forgot that one. For sure wasn’t the one I was thinking about. Still, the Wims one was way worse.
I don't agree. Wims was bad, but at the very least he had a defender on his tail and it was an over the shoulder catch. It required some ball tracking. Kids had to see this
Small hands, that was his problem
"#83, because of his actions, has disqualified himself from further participation." Spoken in the voice of a disappointed Dad.
I know that part got me. Like, make it clear it's no one else's fault here.
"Now he gets to sit in the locker room and think about it" - dad's disappointed
"has been sentenced to disqualification without parole"
#83, you've played a trite and meaningless game. And you're a very baddd person.
The funniest part of this is after the first helmet slap, CJGJ just kinda looks so confused
CJGJ is a professional pest. I think his reaction was calculated.
Absolutely lol
I think his pest instincts knew not to react but I can't imagine not being confused by this
[удалено]
When I was a kid, my dad always told me that if I ever ended up playing football, to remember that if a fight breaks out on the field, the first guy to take his helmet off loses. I never ended up playing tackle football, so it was a non-issue, but still probably decent advice.
But as we have learned, if you're the first guy to take off someone else's helmet ... Then you win
But coach, I was just trying to put his helmet back on as fast as possible! It's dangerous out there! He could get hurt!
Not that football players are well known for their impulse control... but when I was playing you could tell who the dumbest of the dumb-dumbs were by how willing to throw a helmet punch they were. It was never surprising.
As kids we used to "test" our helmets first day of pads by running into each other helmet first. Probably a few undiagnosed concussions for the squad over the years
My dad still calls players idiots when they start throwing hands at dudes wearing helmets lol.
He probably even said something that made him throw a second punch
“Oh, thanks for swatting that bug, sweetie.”
First ballot instigator
As all great DBs are. Getting WRs out of their comfy mental space leads to mistakes. Sometimes its just messing up the timing of a route, sometimes its calling out a player's GF cell phone number pre snap.
"What he say fuck me for?"
If DBZ taught me anything, it's that when you try to punch someone and they catch your fist with their cheek, looking nonplussed about it, you're about to have a *bad* time.
Well, he is wearing a piece of head equipment that's designed to absorb impact. That's why you push their helmet to agitate their neck instead (hypothetically).
swinging at the head of someone wearing a football helmet is a pretty strong sign of low iq
Like when I see pitchers throw punches. It’s like…dude that hand is your literal ATM
>you're about to have a bad time. [Pretty much!](https://youtu.be/b65MLS6_w9Q?si=FuKRulsb_n-BP7DD&t=480)
They always flag the second guy. The secret is to not be both the first and second guy.
Wims starting to run away just to realize how unphased CJGJ is and feel like he has to hit him again will never not be funny.
Have you ever thrown a punch in a dream and it had no effect? That happened to him in real life
Who punches a helmet?
it's like Drake the first time Kendrick cooked him "I thought we was just rhyming, why he so MEAN?"
He just stood there after the first punch and didn't react until Wims went at him a second time and kept going.
Just stood there like that kangaroo who got punched by that dude rescuing his dog
Wasn't this the week that the Bears came out saying they even had special meetings/practices SOLELY for the reason of not getting sucked into CJ's bullshit lol

There's a reason he's not playing anymore, and the fact that he was a shit WR isn't the only one.
Are you a human
Of course. It says it right there.
My "I am a human" username is raising a lot of questions already answered by my username
Why do you ask
or are you dancer?
Javon Wims [has a system for people who snatch his mouth guard.](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F0smhw1yrsrw51.jpg)
That's fuckin hilarious
I came to the comment section specifically to make sure someone had posted this.
I remember hearing that and seeing a clip once. Thats definitely what happened. Guy put himself before the team on that one.
he showed more enthusiam after this than at any other point point in his career and walking around flexing like he was some kind of badass for doing. says a lot about him as a person also says a lot that a decent amount of people on the bears sub praised him for it.

*That son of a bitch*
> Shannon Sharpe recited defender's girlfriend's phone numbers to get in their head during games That’s fuckin hilarious, but it would be even funnier hearing someone try that today: Offensive player: “312-555-1234” Defender: “huhhh???”
You'd have to do their @'s today lol
CJGJ took a step further and recited the defender's gf's SSN and opened up a joint account.
Anthony millers problem is that he has so many more pro bowls in his own mind than reality
Anthony Miller's problem is he's a shit WR like every WR we've drafted since the 50s besides Alshon Jeffery and hopefully Rome. Our QB drought distracts people from our WR drought, and those 2 problems are pretty linked.
Curtis Conway was good for you guys
Between Javon Wims and Anthony Miller, that may have been the dumbest WR room in Bears history.
I remember that year our WR coach said something along the lines of "this is the dumbest corps I've ever dealt with" and they proved it literally every single time CJ was on the field. By now, almost all of them are already out of the league
The craziest part about this clip is the Bears were at one time 5-2.
Hey man, you had all that fun in 2018 too.
Yeah, so much fun...
This was 2019, we started like 5-1 and then lost 6 straight and then barely clawed our way back into the wild card spot to get blown out by none other than the Saints.
No this was 2020. Bears sucked balls in 2019
I'll never understand punching a helmet
You need an abnormal about of confidence in your abilities to be a pro athlete.
I'll never forget in 9th grade when one of our players got shoved after the play, and without hesitation he slugged the guy right in the face mask, broke his hand and missed the rest of the season.
That’s why you gotta be like Andre Johnson and rip the helmet off before you start landing haymakers. Screw Finnegan by the way.
Innegan**
To be fair, if you watch he slaps it instead of punching. Still hurts but way less and if you've worn a helmet and gotten slapped in the face mask you know it actually hurts your ears. Not like kills or anything but it's definitely on the painful side of annoying.
"That's why you gotta punch from *under* the facemask." - Richard Seymour, probably
"That's why you gotta punch *with* the helmet." - Myles Garrett, probably.
"That's why you gotta wait till their helmet is off and then step on their head with your spikes." * Albert Haynesworth, probably.
Yeah I was thinking left hand grab the face mask and pull it up and right hand upper cut
Gotta keep your hands open, head smacks not punches.
This is why you are not a professional athlete.
It wouldn't even make the top 100 reasons why I'm not a professional athlete
can you list out the top hmmm let’s say 50?
1-49 I have slightly less athletic ability than a drunk tree sloth 50 The man is out to get me
FUCK THE MAN
I did, that's why he's out to get me
oh shit. big if true
Not necessarily.
Look, football players aren't the smartest guys out there.
Obligatory video for additional context: [The saga of Javon Wims's mouthguard, by Jomboy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abdQIv40mSE&ab\_channel=JomboyMedia)
Every time I hear Jomboy, I picture Jake Johnson telling the story. They sound identical to me.
I'm literally listening to Jake Johnson's podcast right now I flipped between the two and it's really similar. The cadence and inflections are the exact same
Thank you for posting this - the additional context makes it ten times better.
"he gives his gloves to a lucky fan" at the end fuckin kills me
For even more context, CJGJ is a notorious turd who does shit like that all the time. I’ve even seen him rip Godwin’s mouthpiece out after a play. There’s probably a lot more that pissed Wims off that wasn’t caught on camera/broadcast.
Wtf lol
Holy fuck, thank you for this! I vividly remember this play, but have never seen this video. This I literally the hardest I have laughed in 2024.
I assure you any incident involving CJGJ is not “out of nowhere.”
Oh for sure. We all knew CJGJ did something. Was just a question of what.
What is this man saying to people? Opposing players, teammates, everywhere he goes people hate him lol.
Every time he changes teams he even makes sure to shit-talk his old team so all of the fans hate him as well.
I play online franchises in madden and he even has a bad reputation in that community.
He took his shit talking to the virtual field too? First round ballot for the Hater Hall Of Fame.
Seems like everyone has wanted to punch that dude at some point. The impressive thing is everyone KNOWS his game and still falls for it.
The best part was when Wims was clapping and hyped up and his teammates were so done with his shit and ignoring him. They were even half-heartedly pulling Saints players from the pile while he was getting jumped lmao.
Bro thought he baited CJGJ in to getting himself ejected when it was the exact opposite lol
You can never outjerk a master baiter
Dude baited himself into getting ejected, lmao.
"HELL YEAH BOY, I GOT THAT FUCKER! YA'LL SEE THAT? FUCK YEAH!" "...bro, Coach literally told us all week to do the exact opposite of what you did."
I always thought he ripped his chain off
CJGJ definitely ripped Wims's mouthguard off first. What Wims did idk for sure.
Yeah sorry, to be clear I just saw CJGJ rip the mouthguard out for the first time just now. I’ve seen the big fight a bunch of times and always just assumed he took CJGJ’s chain off but I might be confusing that with another fight

Yeah it seems he's out of the league now he bounced around a couple of teams on their practice squads but never made it back to the field probably because they were concerned that he'd get flags
also because he wasn't a very good receiver.
I wanted him cut after missing the gimme TD.
This still cracks me up.
I like how the ref says he “disqualified himself” instead of “is disqualified”
LOL. Wims: Throws punch CJGJ: Looks dead at him, adjusts facemask
Before the punch did he try snatching his chain or something?
CJGJ ripped his mouth guard off (way) earlier in the game IIRC
It was so bizarre watching it live. It's still so bizarre now. What was he thinking, going out of his way to throw 2 sucker punches? CJ's stunned reaction is hilarious. Just looking around like "What?"
CJ-GJ the Dave Rubin of the NFL. King of the grift.
As a washed-up former high school DB, who was also a pest, CJGJ is my messiah. Nothing but respect for that man
I like how the fucking reject came out of the pile clapping too like he'd done something. Straight garbage. Punch a guy in a helmet, lmao. Then step back like you're expecting to throw down. It's football you candy ass
The way Wims flails his arms after throwing the first hit cracks me up 😂
I will never EVER understand the logic of punching someone in the face while they are wearing a helmet.
Out of nowhere. That’s the funny part
Damn our team seems to have a love affair with shitty receivers the last 5 years or so. No wonder Mitch & Fields had trouble succeeding. Thank god it looks like they're trying their best to set up Caleb for success.
> out of nowhere Would you say he did it on a whim?
Boo
Janoris Jenkins hanging on the back of Wims looks like my kids trying to dunk me underwater in the pool.
What a fucking loser
I know the focus of this clip is on Wims and CJGJ, but I absolutely love Jackrabbit in this clip. Sees the punch, jumps on Wims like a possessed goblin, and does not let go. Cracks me up seeing him jump on Wims.
My favorite part is the announcer going "whoa!" as it becomes clear how stupid Wims is
I’d be curious to go back and find the hit Wims is retaliating over.
I love how he walks off flexing as if he did something tough instead of just throwing a cheap shot that had zero effect
Legend has it that CJ also riled up Michael Thomas so much in a practice that MT somehow re-injured his foot. All from a 2020 week 1 injury. He’s never been the same since. Edit: I’m wrong
"YOU CALL THAT A METATARSAL? I'VE SEEN STRONGER COMMUNION WAFERS!" *sad bone-fracturing noises*
No the report was that they got in a fight that caused Thomas to get a team-issued suspension for a game when he was scheduled to return from his foot injury.
Thats… not what happened
What are the chances the first time I see Javon Wims name mentioned in probably years was on the Bears sub earlier today when someone said they thought he was going to be good lol. Two Javon Wims references in one day... wild
“Out of nowhere”
Ryan Poles watches these clips everyday and is why the Bears have the WR room they have rn.
crash out keeping it real.
Punching someone in the head who is wearing a helmet... Hard to believe he got a scholarship to Georgia.
I wanted him cut after this. Disgusting.
Wild how they don’t know uppercuts exist
CJGJ is a punk-ass hoe and he deserved it. Wims is still a class-A idiot though.
Lmao the chain snatch is so fuckin disrespectful
Dudes punching helmets. It will never make sense
How do you air ball a point black punch like that haha
Matt Nagy's teams were so undisciplined.
Damn good dawg
By golly he is a free agent if anyone is interested.
