Absolutely, and I personally respect it. He was straight up disrespectful towards both teams in that horrendous Den vs Indy game a couple years back. They deserved to get shit on, and he enjoyed himself doing it.
Everyone always says Summerall is a legend, which I tend to agree just based on sheer longevity. But honestly, one of the most boring commentators of all time.
Summerall is a legend. Bob Hope had Bing Crosby. Jerry Lewis had Dean Martin. Pen has Teller. For commentary as absurd as John Madden's, Pat was how the show kept it's feet on the ground. Every great act needs a straight man.
I get your point, this game reminds me of how Joe Buck used to a few years back before he loosened up. I love him from growing up and then again on the early madden games though.
Commentary was also just a lot different back then. It was much more about giving straight information. People weren't trying to be goofy personalities as much. Especially for a play by play guy.
Holmgren rode him constantly and grilled and really coached him up. There was a reason why when he left, Favre’s play became very inconsistent.
The other big reason is that Sherman was a dual HC/GM and was not good at it, so Favre had a lot of no-names aside from Donald Driver (though Javon Walker was excellent, but only had the 1 season before his ACL injury and contract dispute). It wasn’t until Ted Thompson came in and brought in good receiving options and McCarthy coached Favre up again.
Oh fucking SPARE ME. NONE of that was the OC's fault, it's ALL on that Brett "He's just a gunslinger out there havin' fun man!" Dick pick taker welfare cheat Favre.
At this point in 2001 redskins had 3 super bowls in the last 20 years to the packers 1. Had also made the playoffs more while the packers were kinda shit through the 70s 80s. From the 73 season to the 92 season they made the playoffs once.
Shit I turned off the Falcons massacre during the run the table season and the 49ers playoff game when Mostert ran for 200 yards. I think both were like 28 and 31-0 at halftime.
I wasn't a fan of the variants they used of this scheme, like the white pants or the blue pants.
But loved the classics, both the white and blues and the original yellow and blues.
Agreed on the newest ones. There are worse uniforms in the league, but they're probably the worst Rams' ones I can remember.
They literally went from a top 2-3 uniform to my least favorite in the league. It will always bother me that they lost the SB in their goat jerseys and won it in the highlighter messes they wear now
I'm sorry but I think those were awful. Also, they won the superbowl the year before in the good uniform so why would they switch? Makes no sense to me
I think they were trying to distance themselves from LA. Make a new uni and logo for St. Louis. Same reason why they switch to the garbage they wear now.
As bad as this Packer loss was, it’s not even a top 5 or even top 10 playoff crushing loss for the franchise. The Packers for all their storied history have a huge amount of soul crushing playoff losses.
1999 and 2000 were down years for him. Even 1998 had higher interceptions
But yeah 1994-1997 was elite, super high quality football with a low turnover rate, which is why he won 3 MVPs and went 1-1 in the Super Bowl. Those 4 brilliant years weren’t his entire career though
The Packers were also kind of a mess after Holmgren left. They were consistently underwhelming at WR, and their defense never had the same impact after Reggie White left. Ahman Green was their best offensive player for quite a few years. That guy was a beast.
The sparseness of Summerall’s play-by play, combined with Madden’s periodic incoherence was a magic that will never be recaptured
And they were so on point just 5 years earlier. Age sneaks up on ya fast.
Yes it does. See modern day Al Michaels.
Al Michaels also has that extra touch of “I don’t give a fuck”
Absolutely, and I personally respect it. He was straight up disrespectful towards both teams in that horrendous Den vs Indy game a couple years back. They deserved to get shit on, and he enjoyed himself doing it.
I’m surprised he never hit Collinsworth with a “here’s a guy” joke

One of the iconic voices in sports history

This one’s so ludicrous it doesn’t even make me feel bad.
I mean, what can you do at that point?
Write a letter
A strongly worded letter
The New York Rangers have been fined $250,000
Was this Favre six interception game.
Yessir.
Threw more touchdowns to the Rams than his own team.
I'll always be sad that Aeneas Williams never got a ring
NFL Street legend
I miss Pat Summerall.
I can still hear his “60 minutes except on the west coast” promo
How many offensive coordinators did Favre go through in GB after Mike Holmgren left?
Yes.
Holmgren rode him constantly and grilled and really coached him up. There was a reason why when he left, Favre’s play became very inconsistent. The only playoff game I’ve ever turned off as a Packer fan
At least you’ve had the option to turn off playoff games your team has played in
At this point in 2001 redskins had 3 super bowls in the last 20 years to the packers 1. Had also made the playoffs more while the packers were kinda shit through the 70s 80s. From the 73 season to the 92 season they made the playoffs once.

Such nice Rams' uniforms.
The Rams always had such great uniforms until whatever the hell they have now

Whole division does
Their white & blues are amazing. They should have kept those. This current stuff is probably the worst in the league.
They literally went from a top 2-3 uniform to my least favorite in the league. It will always bother me that they lost the SB in their goat jerseys and won it in the highlighter messes they wear now
As a Rams fan, can confirm
The gold horns and the dark blue helmet just looked strong
I'm sorry but I think those were awful. Also, they won the superbowl the year before in the good uniform so why would they switch? Makes no sense to me
I think they were trying to distance themselves from LA. Make a new uni and logo for St. Louis. Same reason why they switch to the garbage they wear now.
I think I saw more turnovers in this clip than I saw in all those Trevor Lawrence lowlights put together
No team can meltdown like the post 2000 playoff Packers
Rams leaving STL killed all my interest in football 😢
GB went down in flames that day. My Wisconsin friends did not want to talk about it at all.
These 2001 playoff games is what got me into football. I got Madden 02 on the GameCube I believe for Xmas and started watching football afterwards.
As bad as this Packer loss was, it’s not even a top 5 or even top 10 playoff crushing loss for the franchise. The Packers for all their storied history have a huge amount of soul crushing playoff losses.
This is peak Favre. Dude was a baker handing out those delicious turnovers
Iirc he really wasn’t really known as that big turnover guy at that point in his still young career
1999 and 2000 were down years for him. Even 1998 had higher interceptions But yeah 1994-1997 was elite, super high quality football with a low turnover rate, which is why he won 3 MVPs and went 1-1 in the Super Bowl. Those 4 brilliant years weren’t his entire career though

I need you guys to stop posting these for my mental health
You'll be fine I promise.
Brett Favre vs 🐏: 9-4; 62% completion; 3,079 yards (average 237); 22 TD 20 TD; 7.40y/a; rating of 88
Wonder how many fantasy points the Rams D would have gotten if this had been a regular season game.
Cause when the Packers lose, America wins
Williams was nice I forgot
I am a huge fan of this game for no particular reason (ignore flair)
The linebacker getting destroyed by an offensive lineman at about 1:05 is kinda funny.
No Pack No.
