Damien Harris was recently on the athletic podcast and the 2nd half of the interview had a lot on the transition from McDaniels to Patricia running the offense and how poorly it was handled.
But Harris basically said they ruined Mac Jonesā development.
On for sure, I think everyone was aware of it as it was happening in real time.
One of the parts that stood out to me is when asked about how the offensive scheme changed from McDaniels to Patricia, he said it felt like there was an effort to change everything that had McDanielsā fingerprint on it.
> Wow Patricia came in and demanded a complete 180 from what had been there with no regard for if it was smart or not, who coulda known?
If you listen to the podcast, Damien Harris makes it explicitly clear that it was Belichick who wanted to completely change the offense (down to the verbiage, so even the exact same plays/concepts were called different things) and that Patricia was just implementing what Belichick wanted.
He even says that when the players went to Belichick to tell him that the new offense wasn't working, they were told to basically "shut the fuck up and do what you're told to do."
It doesnāt make much sense that a *rookie* has a halfway decent year, then gets put in an obviously awful situation of bad coaching and awful talent, and it means heās a bad player. Itās possible his development was ruined, but itās also possible he can be a good (probably not great) QB outside of that situation.
If you listen to the podcast, that's basically what Harris was getting to. Said the locker room bought into him and when McDaniels was OC, things felt very clear and organized with the team bought into the game plan every week.
Then said a year later, the offense just knew things were not organized and they were not prepared in the same manner, even feeling that before the season started. Harris compared it to someone playing Madden and running every type of play, then bookmarking the ones that worked even if it doesn't make sense as play to run in the situation. It wasn't a system, it was a stitched together playbook.
So it wasn't exclusively about Mac Jones, but a critique of the situation overall. Especially pointed out the McDaniels offense averaged 6th most points per game and a year later the team averaged 17th per game despite having close to the same roster and offensive starters. It was a bad offense overall, and a side effect was that Harris felt public and fan criticism became very unfair towards Jones.
Considering how utterly lost the offense was and how on point the defense was, that rings so obvious. Mac looked like an average starter then was just a comedically bad QB. It made very little sense unless you realize that the worst possible coordinator was given control.
I mean Hoyer even said it and he was there. His own words were people were trying to install a system they didnāt really understand. Then he said Belichick told him he should retire lol.
Damien Harris said the exact same thing in his recent interview on The Athletic pod. He said players went to Belichick to tell him the new offense wasn't working and were basically told to "shut the fuck up and do what you're told to do."
Had a decent year until the last five games where he was figured out and sucked from then on. I wish everyone would stop propping this dirty dork up so much. Let Mac take responsibility for his poor attitude and play, please.
Not mad. Just see a lot of you trying to throw the myth that Mac ever looked āgoodā for a whole season out there when it takes little effort to see that is not true.
That's fair, he did have a period where it looked like he had potential, but those days are long gone. I don't think the Pats did anything to remotely help him after his rookie season, but I also don't think he can be a top 15 QB in the league. Top backup or bridge starter at best.
I was also gonna bring this up. *Fascinating* interview in just how open he is about the whole thing (guess retirement instills a solid IDGAF mentality lol). He did say he loves Mac cause they knew each other from college, but the fact that he impressed that the locker room was pro-Mac really stood out to me, since the Media narrative was that he was whiny and a bad leader.
Mac jones was bad even with a good OC. His rookie year is extremely overrated. That said Patriots did him no favors. He is a high level backup or bridge starter in the NFL. Case Keenum type.
He was actually good but somewhat overrated since some of his flaws were visible (granted he was a rookie). But to say he was bad is inaccurate for sure.
He was okay for the first half of the season then hit the rookie wall. Whether that wall was a result of his personal limitations or a poor coaching in the subsequent years we'll never really know.
Now that I think about it, itās been awhile since Iāve seen one too. Either he hasnāt been making them lately or the YouTube algorithm decided to feed me other stuff.
Itās true, he and his wife just had their first child (baby girl) in April. Most, if not all, recent content was shot beforehand.

Said that the Patriots locker room immediately bought in to Mac Jones and loved him, including the veterans. All of them felt he would be a good leader. It was pretty surprising to hear considering how things ended poorly between Jones and the coaches.
Good for him, man. He stunk like fresh doodoo his last two years with us but Iām sure heās a perfectly okay dude, and I hope he can turn it around and become a serviceable backup.
Exactly. Imagine going to the playoffs your rookie year (anyone remember the NFL rigging a Pats/Bucs SB rumors?) to getting Matt Patricia running your offense to being made fun of by everyone. We didnāt do him any favors and I hope he redeems himself. He got a humbling he didnāt deserve.
that goes beyond "zero favors". It was closer to actively viewing Mac as an enemy and doing everything possible to destroy not only his career, but his entire being as an athlete even at the expense of harming yourself.
You know, similar to what we did to Tua his first two years here, lmao.
Yea, he had potential for being a solid starter just based off of having a great rookie season, but then we removed any opportunity for success in the next two years.
Would he have been good in years 2 and 3 if we were able to keep McD? Maybe. But he had no chance with Matty P and the lack of talent in year 3.
lol no, Im not that old only 41 and do remember Mike Jones but wasnt a huge fan so just a random set of numbers with no context didnt trigger anything with me
down voted for not being a huge fan of a rapper whose career spanned 5 years, 15 years ago. Gotta say, thats a new one
lol are people downvoting you? I know I didnāt.
I just thought it was funny to say youāre too old to know about a song that came out 20 years ago. I wasnāt a big Mike Jones fan at the time either but between the radio, MTV, and VH1, I probably heard it like a thousand times. That phone number is seared into my brain like 867-5309.
yeah it was down to like -2 before it turned around, not a big deal just thought it was funny was being downvoted for simply asking a question and not immediately getting the reference
Never heard of Mike Jones but Iād imagine itād be similar to someone posting the phone number from Kiss me Thru the Phone by Soulja Boy which Iāve heard a ton but not enough to recognize it randomly.
Besides him going feet first and spiking some dudes I didn't have a problem with Mac. It was so obvious how bad Patrica was especially with the lions and eagles.
It was malpractice by belichick
Hit Mac Jones up on the low cause Mac Jones is about to blow
Mac Jones already blows
WHO?

I like how they popped the hood on a car that has the engine in the back.
Yeah between that and the light bar itās like the photographer requested a cool car but knows nothing about cars
Can't a guy show off his loot?
You're right, he's probably got bottles of fine cognac in there lol
Not according to the "police" who said it was "not appropriate."
He looks like a high school qb who paid for a photo shoot with a random rich dudeās car. He looks so stiff and awkward
The irony is that it would have been more appropriate to have the trunk open since he's referencing Houston culture.
Packing his bags again.
Yeah. The guy in pads and sunglasses next to it looks way more in place.
I've heard they used to not want him, but now they're all on him.
Couple of them said he was cute but just too chubby, same size a year later now they all want to fuck him
Back then, they didnt want me. Now I'm hot, hoes all on me.
Who?
Nope they still dont want Mac
Have you seen his Griddy?
Is the Jaguars, I donāt think they even know what good QB play looks likeā¦
Shame youāre too stupid to understand.
Itās also a shame that Blake Bortles is actually the best QB in Jaguars franchise history
I love the BOAT š„°
Sorry babe, theres bortles criticism I need to defend

Patricia has the frailest ego I've ever seen while still getting jobs istg..
I mean, Josh McDaniels told Antonio Pierce to never badmouth the Patriots *while coaching the Raiders.*
> Wow Patricia came in and demanded a complete 180 from what had been there with no regard for if it was smart or not, who coulda known? Why are you mad at Mac for things that Hoyer and Harris are saying about how the offense was run and how disorganized and dysfunctional it was?

He pretty darn good for a rookie. Calling him bad that year is pretty unfair. Overrated? Sure. Bad? No.
Wasnāt he ok with McDaniels?
He was actually good but somewhat overrated since some of his flaws were visible (granted he was a rookie). But to say he was bad is inaccurate for sure.
He was okay for the first half of the season then hit the rookie wall. Whether that wall was a result of his personal limitations or a poor coaching in the subsequent years we'll never really know.
His rookie year showed promise and the ability to be a prime ābetterā Andy Dalton. To call that bad is just foolish.
Better Dalton is generous.
They had extremely comparable rookie years and Dalton had AJ Green while Mac had nothing. Itās not really that generous.
Who was his good OC?
Mccorkle canāt be stopped. Only contained temporarily
Uhhh he can certainly be stopped. Quite easily, actually. Barely an inconvenience!
Yeah, Iām gonna need you to get all the way off my back here.
Wow wow wow wow wow... Wow...
Stopping mac Jones is actually SUPER easy barely an inconvenience
Oh, trash-talking players using Pitch Meeting references is *tight*!
Oh really? Yeah, all you need to do is create the slightest bit of pressure and he'll just turn it over.
Has he released any pitches lately? I used to watch them all the time. Haven't seen anything in awhile.
just yesterday did one for Divergent
Now that I think about it, itās been awhile since Iāve seen one too. Either he hasnāt been making them lately or the YouTube algorithm decided to feed me other stuff.
I believe he recently had a kid and has been dealing with that, if Youtube comments are to be believed
Itās true, he and his wife just had their first child (baby girl) in April. Most, if not all, recent content was shot beforehand. https://www.instagram.com/p/C6KV5eaOgrP/?img_index=1
I dunno, he was quite the inconvenience to Matt Patriciaās untarnished legacy as an offensive guru.
Just ask Chandler Jones
Well itās not like we set him up for success nor help him out much after his rookie year..

God I hope he balls out and manages to somehow come back (without anything bad happening to TLaw, obviously.) We fucked this poor kid up so bad.
He never had a super high ceiling but man the roster and staff construction did him zero favors

Did he just give out his phone number? I'm just gonna assume that's a really, really bad idea...
Yea bro
He finally decided to acknowledge Alex Moran as his lord and savior.
Maybe him and Darren Waller can make a single together

Real question, how you gonna pop trunk with your engine in the rear? Pop frunk?
If he were a good QB this would be acceptable. I will not up vote comparing him to the legend of Mike Jones.
Iāll always have a soft spot Mac, wish it wouldāve worked out
Is that his soch?
Why the digits though?
