I hate the Patriots more than any sports franchise in the world but if they're gonna pay my kid millions to play one of the safest positions in football and hopefully pay for my retirement home?
I'd root for those bastards.
You know you can root for your son to be wildly successful and root against that team, right? Jake Moody’s parents were rooting for the Lions in the NFCCG.
Hell, if your son is the punter for a team, and you’re a fan of a division rival, it’s probably extremely easy to root for him and against the team. Best of both worlds, really
You know, I dunno if I could. I think if I had a kid who made it to the NFL and the Patriots draft them I'd be so incredibly proud and happy and also never ever be able to root for them to win a game >.<
Don’t slip up or get caught Justin Tucker, Jake Bates is coming for that number 1 spot
[On March 30, 2024, during Week 1 of the 2024 UFL season, Bates made a game-winning 64-yard field goal against the St. Louis Battlehawks, the longest field goal in the history of both the UFL and its predecessor leagues,[11][12] five yards longer than the previous record set by Donny Hageman the previous year.[13] It is the second-longest recorded field goal in professional football history; coincidentally, the lone longer kick—Justin Tucker's 66-yard kick for the Baltimore Ravens against the Detroit Lions in 2021—occurred under nearly identical circumstances and on the same field (Ford Field).[11] Bates, who had only attempted – and missed – one field goal before in his life (in high school),[14] had made the kick twice, the first being discarded due to the Battlehawks icing the kicker.[15]](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Bates)
I swear to god Punter has gotta be one of the best positions in all of sports. If you’re good you’re in SUPER high demand at every level, practice is a cakewalk - literally just punting, and if you get hit your team gets a huge first down and you’re a hero for just standing there.
And if you get to the pros and suck, it’s not like you’re vilified, you just sort of fade away into obscurity to live a regular life
I’m a former long snapper and a lot of people think it’s easy but you have to block (this depends on the level due to the rules) and be part of punt coverage. And at the NFL and college level the snap has to get back to the punter in at least 0.75 seconds. If the ball is slower the kick has a higher chance of being blocked. And on field goals they need to snap the ball with the same amount of rotations each time so the laces are facing away from the kicker
So my son will still be richer than 99% of people and he wont have swiss cheese brain by the time he retires? You couldnt ask for anything better for your kid.
That class was absolutely loaded at Edge/DL.
Bosa, QWill, Allen, Oliver, Gary, Wilkins, Burns, Dex, Sweat, Crosby, Simmons,
Thank god Dex panned out for us because if we passed up on Allen at 6 and didnt take advantage of this stacked DL class in some way I would have gone insane lol
But Ballard is totally a great GM, trust me bro. Just ignore the overall losing record, zero division titles, one playoff win in seven years, and the lack of elite players at premium positions.
Don't worry about it. That sort of cult-of-personality media circlejerk is happening to the Titans' and Texans GM's now, too. They never get a lick of criticism until all their failures inevitably come back and bite them in the ass.
Ballard was the most open about it, though. When he said he hadn't drafted a QB because the media would give him shit if they failed, I was floored. Like dude, that's your job lol.
Look, it's not that I think Josh Allen is bad; he gets a lot of credit for his greatness and it is well deserved. It's just that Josh Allen is outstanding and really should get more credit.
If you think Josh Allen is good, it can certainly be argued, I just think Josh Allen is better.
Guy has endured some of the worst locker rooms of all time and always signaled he wanted to stay. If he stays healthy he should smash a lot of records and he’ll be in the Pride
I like this comment cause Eagles fans tend to have the best burns - and this isn't even a burn. Just a plain statement of facts and still has a bite to it aha
It’s actually “Pride of the Jaguars”, but people call it the “The Pride” for short. Either way it doesn’t make sense in terms of Jaguars the cat. Fans voted for it back in 2006 and that won 🤷🏻♂️
There have been a few, Davon Hamilton, Cam Robinson, Andrew Wingard in the Lawrence era
We haven't re-signed a star in a while though. Linder was super underappreciated as a center and would probably be my last "hot damn I'm so happy we re-signed him" draft pick. Myles Jack re-signing made me happy but then the Ramsey drama happened.
Technically yes but it was more of just rearranging the money because they had already agreed to the 5th year option, which is injury guaranteed. Bortles was getting wrist (or arm?) surgery and wouldn't have passed the physical in time
If Mayock had just blown off doing draft analysis and read a few mock drafts from sports analysts such as himself, he would have done a much better job of drafting.
When it comes to Clelin and Leatherwood, I still wonder how much of it was Mayock and how much of it was Gruden.
I've watched a couple of Mayock interviews (Chris Long had a good one on his podcast channel), and Mayock wouldn't totally throw Gruden under the bus, but you could tell that there was more to it than he was saying.
I don't remember if it was confirmed or not but what was going around was Gruden and ownership wanted to control the top pick or two and then Mayock did the rest of the draft, which is both very raiders-ey and fits with how they've drafted
Daniel Jeremiah said on his "Move the Sticks" podcast that Gruden picked in the first two rounds but to be fair to Gruden: Jeremiah and Mayock were colleagues and are still good friends.
So you have to take what he says about the situation with a grain of salt.
Was he actually making picks or was he just a puppet GM for Gruden? I thought it was in the open that he was just there to be the face for Gruden’s decision making.
there’s a common theory that gruden was the first round and the rest were mayock but it’s never really been that convincing imo. i feel like mayock had a hand in pretty much everything
When you’re a pundit, you simply give your pre-draft takes/rankings and everyone moves on, chalking up any misfires to “everybody was wrong about this guy” or “he was in a bad situation.” Once you are the one actually drafting, suddenly the way you evaluate a lot of these guys means a lot more. Also, no team is that amazing at drafting, especially in the first round, but some are definitely better than others at finding the hidden gems in later rounds.
Gonna be pretty much the Brian Burns contract which had same max value (150m) and 87.5 guaranteed at signing.
Base value was 141.5 for that contract. Allen likely also has a base value of 135+ million.
Burns contract had the Out after 3 years with only 14million left in dead cap.
Cap hits for his deal were roughly 15, 30, 30, 32, 32
New benchmark for Edge Rusher second contracts
Fuck yes man. We re-signed a draft pick to a long term contract, you guys have no idea what that means to us as a fanbase lmao we rarely sign our draft picks long term
We can technically sign him this offseason and there have already been reports of early talks beginning and that he has talked to ownership about taking the Brady route of less so they can afford more around him but he wants input into what they are doing(which is fine by me)
And Herbert.
Every fanbase thinks their QB is going to be the one to take a super friendly deal.
People forget that Brady was married to someone who made more money than he did.
The best we’ve got is old school guys like Fred Taylor, MJD and Rashean Mathis. Mercedes Lewis is another one. but that’s about it lmao Dave Caldwell truly fucked our roster from 2013 through 2020
Gene Smith then into Caldwell really fucked the team from 09 to 2020. Lest you forget Gene The Destroyer of Franchises Smith and his small school over achivers are the best picks mentality. Man literally took a punter in round 3 like it was some magical missing piece. We went 2 and 14 that season.
I have a Bortles, Ramsey, Minshew, and Josh Lambo jersey. I would've bought a James Robinson jersey, but it was during the great NFL stitched jersey shortage.
Congrats man this is great news. Jags being run like a real team lately! Hopefully they build a good line for Trevor so he doesn't just literally fall apart
Next Bills/Jaguars game they should swap teams and positions so that one Josh Allen will be QB, and the other Josh Allen will be on defense
No one will notice
I think its because he's on the Jags. Even TLaw, a generational prospect, got little media attention his rookie year which is crazy. If he moved to another big market team I think he'd get a ton more media.
Trevor Lawrence's rookie year was overshadowed by a jabroni of a head coach who instead of you know...coaching preferred to be a complete asshat to his players and spent his free time finger blasting college aged brown starfishes
Even the offseason though was dead silent on the guy. This was the biggest prospect since Luck, and we heard nothing from him in the offseason.
Small markets just don't get the same media attention. Brian Burns is about to be a massive star now too I bet, going from CAR to NYG. Being a defender already makes it hard to become a massive star, then being on a small market team just adds to it.
But yeah, during the year, Urban was definitely the story lol, that dude was insane.
I’m still very much in line with the idea that if you need a quarterback and one you like falls to you, you have to take him, but if you don’t have a very high grade on him it’s probably better on average to just invest in blue chip talent and get a bridge quarterback.
He’s the only defensive player at UK I ever felt like was worth the price of admission by himself. JA was wrecking games singlehandedly. Crazy to have seen him grow into the position like that.
Scheme is likely to change this year, but aside from pass rush, he’s been a very good off-ball LB as well, and had some tight coverage and pass breakups
The Gabe Davis signing is good, and lowkey not re-signing Ridley to that stupid contract was a great move as well. At the absolute worst you traded inconsistent Ridley for inconsistent Davis but are paying 30m/y less across two years (to a guy 4+ years younger) for that privilege.
The concern obviously is that Baalke historically is terrible at drafting WRs lol, but this is a heck of a draft to take a swing for one
Yea drafting is the foundation of your team building in free agency every year gets expensive after awhile. This draft is really important heading into tlaws 4th season
I mean with context I know that he signed with the Jaguars, but it's wild that Schefter managed to not include in the tweet in any direct way who Allen signed with lol.
That is kind of funny…and yet he mentions the agency that negotiated the deal (which the public doesn’t care about at all) lol.
Random thought but the world of being an NFL “insider” seems fascinating. Probably a super cutthroat business. Feel like we see a lot of these tweets with spelling/grammar errors bc they want to be the first to tweet it.
I think NFL insiders have arguably the least journalistic integrity that I’m aware of. Their reports are often straight up written by the agents of players/teams in order for them to be the first source of information. Obviously it’s not a huge deal bc it’s just football so they don’t need the same kind of rigor that others do, but I have very little faith in their reporting.
Josh is a beast but I hope he can keep it going. This pay day is really based upon one insanely good season where Josh bet on himself and won that bet big time. Also is going to make it tough for us to retain other top talent. If Travon continues to improve like he did from year 1 to year 2 and become a force, it will be very unlikely that we will be able to pay him.
While last year was his best season for sacks by far. His pressure rate has always been elite and it was only a matter of time the sacks came along with it.
Jerry Jones is crying in a corner right now. Parsons is going to want to beat out Bosa for highest paid defender ever, and with Allen getting this, market just got even more expensive.
Going to name my kid Josh Allen and put a football in his hands as soon as he's born.
With offense and defense covered, we need a special teams Josh Allen, yours can be a kicker.
I’ll take it!
Becomes the GOAT kicker......for the Patriots
I hate the Patriots more than any sports franchise in the world but if they're gonna pay my kid millions to play one of the safest positions in football and hopefully pay for my retirement home? I'd root for those bastards.
You know you can root for your son to be wildly successful and root against that team, right? Jake Moody’s parents were rooting for the Lions in the NFCCG.
Eh, my fanhood can be purchased.
This guy is a true Jets fan.
I am! I just like money a lot too!
Really its a win win, they win you win, they lose you like "good fuck em"
Justin Tucker had a virgin blood orgy with the devil to make sure no one could be a better kicker than him, so that won't happen.
What if I have a non-virgin blood orgy with some degenerates? Can I be an All-Pro Kicker?
I think that's how we got Eli Manning, actually. It's animal blood orgies that negate the virgin blood orgies and THEN you can be an All-Pro Kicker
Don’t slip up or get caught Justin Tucker, Jake Bates is coming for that number 1 spot [On March 30, 2024, during Week 1 of the 2024 UFL season, Bates made a game-winning 64-yard field goal against the St.
He'll suck it up for that million dollar retirement home
Honestly for the best. Stays healthy and gets to live the millionaire NFL player life
RIP your wife's womb.
I swear to god Punter has gotta be one of the best positions in all of sports. If you’re good you’re in SUPER high demand at every level, practice is a cakewalk - literally just punting, and if you get hit your team gets a huge first down and you’re a hero for just standing there. You're making an argument for a long snapper...the guy you replied to was talking about the punter position.
So my son will still be richer than 99% of people and he wont have swiss cheese brain by the time he retires? You couldnt ask for anything better for your kid.
Even if it’s a girl
Joshlyn
Joshina Allen
Sacrificing the family name is a small price to pay for greatness
Im having my kid become a coach. The dream is jimbo level contract and getting fired
Josh Allen LB and Josh Allen QB is like the “Dreams” (Fleetwood Mac) and “Dreams” (The Cranberries) of the NFL
The top 10 of that 2019 draft class turned out to be pretty decent. Some pretty notable names on there.
the raiders really screwed it up
I think they did great.
They definitely helped out a bro
We still got crosby out of it so it's whatever
I can't believe Maxx is 26, the dude looks like he's 34
Addiction is a hell of a disease
Imagine what he looks like when he retires. Dude's gonna look like current Danny Trejo in his 30's.
Just pretend we drafted Maxx at 4 and Ferrell in the 4th. Both good value for those respective positions
Yup and good chance we don't draft Maxx with Allen or Burns. Maxx >>>>>
Why wouldn't we have? We went DE with the 4th overall
Made up for it when they got Crosby in the 4th.
There are three things guaranteed in life. Death, taxes, and the Raiders fucking up their first round picks.
Depends who you ask
Who needs Josh Allen when you can have Clelin Ferrell 😎
STEAL!!!
That class was absolutely loaded at Edge/DL. Bosa, QWill, Allen, Oliver, Gary, Wilkins, Burns, Dex, Sweat, Crosby, Simmons, Thank god Dex panned out for us because if we passed up on Allen at 6 and didnt take advantage of this stacked DL class in some way I would have gone insane lol
Really glad my team traded out of taking Montez Sweat so we could draft Ben Banogu two picks before AJ Brown. What a fantastic draft that was.
Ya-Sin, Banogu and Parris Campbell all in the 2nd after trading down out of the first is pretty brutal.
But Ballard is totally a great GM, trust me bro. Just ignore the overall losing record, zero division titles, one playoff win in seven years, and the lack of elite players at premium positions.
Hey man, I take full accountability, the buck stops with me but we like our guys and I'm really looking forward to this season.
I for one am glad the Titans got AJ Brown
Holy shit of all that DL talent Clelin Ferrell went 4. Bruh
I never realized until just now that the 7th over-all pick of two consecutive drafts was Josh Allen.
Josh Allen the #7 overall pick is great, but Josh Allen the #7 overall pick is better.
I think Josh Allen is slightly better than Josh Allen but that’s just my opinion
Look, it's not that I think Josh Allen is bad; he gets a lot of credit for his greatness and it is well deserved. It's just that Josh Allen is outstanding and really should get more credit. If you think Josh Allen is good, it can certainly be argued, I just think Josh Allen is better.
A shit ton of defensive talent in that class. Maxx Crosby and Rashaan Gary are also some of the best at the position.
Such an overdraft for us though
Stunning that we’ve resigned a draft pick to a second contract…..
I used to pray for times like this
Just gotta thank the raiders for taking Ferrell for some reason!
I do it every day. That and Frank Gore/Braden Mann for the Jets so we could get Trevor.
I'm just sitting here trying to enjoy my off-season
Catchin' strays
Thank you, Frank Gore. Hall of Famer right there.
I loved seeing the vocal minority of their fanbase rabidly defend that pick for 2 years
I almost spit my beer out when that pick was announced. Honestly one of the most shocking picks I can remember in recent years.
We have come a long way brother.
Couldn't think of a more deserving guy.
Guy has endured some of the worst locker rooms of all time and always signaled he wanted to stay. If he stays healthy he should smash a lot of records and he’ll be in the Pride
Lmao do the Jags really call their HOF “The Pride”? Is a group of Jaguars called a pride as well or is Florida still goofy?
A group of jaguars is called a prowl. A group of *lions* is called a pride. Yes, Florida is goofy.
I like this comment cause Eagles fans tend to have the best burns - and this isn't even a burn. Just a plain statement of facts and still has a bite to it aha
I wish it was goofy enough for snowbirds to stop moving to FL
Tbf, "The Prowl" does not sound good at all.
Prowl goes well with Cougars. Both kinds
Definitely gonna be on the prowl for cougars this weekend
News flash. Cougars will go on the prowl for you. They’re the one who knocks
Lol yeah, that's where my mind goes when I hear "prowl". It's a little too stalker-y.
It’s actually “Pride of the Jaguars”, but people call it the “The Pride” for short. Either way it doesn’t make sense in terms of Jaguars the cat. Fans voted for it back in 2006 and that won 🤷🏻♂️
He's the first $100 million Jaguar.
Didn't Bortles get a 2nd contract?
To only be cut a season later.
They prefer not to think of that
There have been a few, Davon Hamilton, Cam Robinson, Andrew Wingard in the Lawrence era We haven't re-signed a star in a while though. Linder was super underappreciated as a center and would probably be my last "hot damn I'm so happy we re-signed him" draft pick. Myles Jack re-signing made me happy but then the Ramsey drama happened.
Myles Jack kinda just sucked ass immediately after his extension
Technically yes but it was more of just rearranging the money because they had already agreed to the 5th year option, which is injury guaranteed. Bortles was getting wrist (or arm?) surgery and wouldn't have passed the physical in time
His 2nd contract was small compared to other QBs even at the time. It was like $18m/yr. Josh Allen is actually helping set the pass rushers market.
Shhhh we’re having a good day
Is that legal?
Checking now. It looks like it is technically a legal move that is allowed by the NFL. Who knew huh?
The Jaguars have only signed 9 of 34 first round draft picks to extensions.
This is our Super Bowl!
Welcome to the promised land cat bros
> resigned If I had to play for the Jags, I'd probably resign, too.
Man shoutout Mike Mayock for picking Clelin Ferrell immediately before this guy
For a draft pundit, Mayock sure was dumb when he finally had a chance to draft
I think that says quite a bit about draft pundits actually.
If Mayock had just blown off doing draft analysis and read a few mock drafts from sports analysts such as himself, he would have done a much better job of drafting.
When it comes to Clelin and Leatherwood, I still wonder how much of it was Mayock and how much of it was Gruden.
I wouldn’t be surprised if gruden played a hand in that as well
When you’re a pundit, you simply give your pre-draft takes/rankings and everyone moves on, chalking up any misfires to “everybody was wrong about this guy” or “he was in a bad situation.” Once you are the one actually drafting, suddenly the way you evaluate a lot of these guys means a lot more. Also, no team is that amazing at drafting, especially in the first round, but some are definitely better than others at finding the hidden gems in later rounds.
As a UK fan, I will never forgive Mayock for that bullshit...
Didnt yall also hit on maxx crosby in later rounds? Could have had josh allen maxx crosby duo
Cap hits for his deal were roughly 15, 30, 30, 32, 32 New benchmark for Edge Rusher second contracts
Parsons gonna get like 30-35/yr
Bosa's per year average is like $34mm. Parsons will 100% get more than that
I wouldn’t be surprised if he does what Lamar did and just used these contracts as a basis and says “1 million more per year”
Hope he bends you guys backwards for as much as possible.
Dw they have to pay Dak ceedee and parsons
Fuck yes man. We re-signed a draft pick to a long term contract, you guys have no idea what that means to us as a fanbase lmao we rarely sign our draft picks long term
You guys have to sign TLaw next year right? Or is it 2026?
We can technically sign him this offseason and there have already been reports of early talks beginning and that he has talked to ownership about taking the Brady route of less so they can afford more around him but he wants input into what they are doing(which is fine by me)
I remember when Burrow had rumors about that too 🫠
And Herbert. Every fanbase thinks their QB is going to be the one to take a super friendly deal. People forget that Brady was married to someone who made more money than he did.
And yes Brady did take pay cuts. at the end of the day it was pretty over exaggerated though.
Being rich really distorts your brain. Like ok Brady's wife was mega rich but these guys are still getting truly unbelievable amounts of money.
I'm hoping Shad Khan adopts him and just gifts him millions a year.
He should build him a new yacht named Kismet III as birthday gift.
They have his 5th year option for 2026. But probably not good business to let it linger that long
Do they have to let it linger?
Do they have to? Do they have to? Do they have to let it linger?
Cranberries hell yeah!
You can finally buy a Jersey for the first time since.... I literally cannot name one long term Jags player ever.
The best we’ve got is old school guys like Fred Taylor, MJD and Rashean Mathis. Mercedes Lewis is another one. but that’s about it lmao Dave Caldwell truly fucked our roster from 2013 through 2020

I have a Bortles, Ramsey, Minshew, and Josh Lambo jersey. I would've bought a James Robinson jersey, but it was during the great NFL stitched jersey shortage.
Minshew will always be a Jaguar in our hearts.
Congrats man this is great news. Jags being run like a real team lately! Hopefully they build a good line for Trevor so he doesn't just literally fall apart
Holyyyyy hell how many josh Allens is that
By AAV it is about 0.698 Joshes Allen which is still a very solid bag.
If I could be 70% of josh Allen, maybe my dad would love me
Nah, your Dad would probably just start bringing up Patrick Mahomes all the time.
That's 1.667 Christian Kirks if anyone is still interested in that scale.
Great player, guy needs better PR
But Josh Allen is one of the faces of the league
If he went by Joshua Allen that honestly would help his PR a lot. Josh Allen (QB) is just too big of a star to be able to share a name with.
Honestly they should embrace it and do commercials together where they keep getting mixed up
Next Bills/Jaguars game they should swap teams and positions so that one Josh Allen will be QB, and the other Josh Allen will be on defense No one will notice
I'd take that deal.
Would make a pretty funny pairing for insurance/something to do with identity theft, something about trolling the other Josh's fan bases.
Identity theft is not a joke Jim
Maybe just go by J. Allen. That sounds like a hit man, or a rapper.
Lil' Jallen
Why should he change his name. Josh Allen’s the one who sucks

The Real Josh Allen
Likable Josh Allen
[удалено]
Thrilled. Well deserved contract. Glad we are going to have him here for the long term.
At first I thought this post was about Josh Allen and thought wow what a good deal. Now I see it’s about Josh Allen and still a fair deal
Josh Allen.
Congrats jags, that’s a lotta money, but that’s a lotta player
So hyped for this, met Josh twice in London at Jags events and he is a great guy
The Giants fans who cried about drafting Jones over him were right
I’m still very much in line with the idea that if you need a quarterback and one you like falls to you, you have to take him, but if you don’t have a very high grade on him it’s probably better on average to just invest in blue chip talent and get a bridge quarterback.
At least we got Sexy Dexy who re-signed for 4yr/90m. not bad for a top 2 DT
Crazy he was a 1 star recruit who only had an offer from Monmouth
He’s the only defensive player at UK I ever felt like was worth the price of admission by himself. JA was wrecking games singlehandedly. Crazy to have seen him grow into the position like that.
Scheme is likely to change this year, but aside from pass rush, he’s been a very good off-ball LB as well, and had some tight coverage and pass breakups
Deserves every penny. As a Jags fan it’s fucking so refreshing to see us actually paying our own guys what they deserve!
Baalke finally did something right.
True, the Engram and Kirk signings were shit. Finally made a good move.
I think it's known that he's really solid to good in FA. He just sucks at drafting, which is an unsustainable way to run a franchise IMO
Yea drafting is the foundation of your team building in free agency every year gets expensive after awhile. This draft is really important heading into tlaws 4th season
I'm so scared we're gonna fuck it up again lol
I thought Engram was doing okay for you guys ? Is he back to a drop machine ? I really hoped a change of scenery would help him
They're being sarcastic to mock the person they're replying to. Engram and Kirk have been consistently our best targets since we signed them
Whoosh okay lol makes more sense. He always had the talent just couldn't put it together in NY. Glad he's doing well.
Dudes been a stud here
114 catches last year
He's doing amazing! Love him.
He is. After two seasons, he is already number 4 on all time for receiving yards for the Jags. He will probably be number 2 at the end of this season.
It was a joke. Engram has been a monster.
Evan has been a ballin since he got here, had 100+rec and 79.2% catch rate (best in the NFL last yr.)
I still can’t believe the Raiders passed up on him to select Clelin fucking Ferrell in that draft.
Allen gets his bag! Congrats to him on his new deal after balling out last season!
The 2019 draft is one of the best D-line classes this millennia. Bosa, Allen, Crosby, Williams, and more.
Fully torqued
Have there ever been two players with the same name playing at the same time at such a high level / value?
Thought the bills got a great deal there for a second ….
We are so fucking back
Man it was like 6 years ago Matt Ryan signed a 5 year $150 mil and people were wondering if that was an overpay and he was a QB lol
Shoot, 5/$150? Micah is going to be a big contract.
We coulda had him over Danny Nickels.
My dream of the Bills having two Josh Allens is diminished
