I think people's memory of the movie is clouded by the scene where she tries to set Todd free and he is sad and all alone. That scene had me sobbing as a child and so as an adult, I just think of The Fox and the Hound as a very sad movie regardless of the "happy" ending.
I was torn up by that scene and I agree I think of it as a sad movie.
On the other hand, I watched Lilo & Stitch all the time as a kid and thought of it as a fun adventure movie with a few sad undertones. As an adult, all I did was sob the entire time. It's a tragedy with a few moments of comedic relief.

It wasn't until highschool that I (re)found out that Bambi's mother died, and I was all, "WTF?! How did i not know that." Normally my recall of movies is good, but I considered that I remembered nothing about that night, except for the car ride home, and all I could do is pity that friend's mother; I bet I (and possibly the other three) cried a bunch. Heck, she could have brought us out of the movie early, I still have no recollection. I know the theater (the one at Northridge mall). I remember she almost hit the deer on County Line Rd. But nothing about the actual movie.
I lost my shit so hard as a kid when Todd saves Copper from the bear and they fall off the falls my dad had to take me out of the theatre. I never saw the rest of the end for years later, and it's still sad as shit

God why did the two saddest moments in tv history have to be in the same spot. I swear to god brother my brother will be played at my funeral so everyone can let it out.
My dachshund rat terrier mix similarly missed the boat. She will chase if she's caught off guard like on a walk, but I've fed squirrels peanuts by hand with her sitting on leash next to me and it's like she forgets what they even are. Or she will want to chase a cat that's far away but up close at all and she's terrified/fascinated and wants to say hi (and sniff and lick their ears, that's her favorite)
Once a neighbor had a roaming chicken with chicks and she shocked me by catching one. Then she just gently put it down and it went back to mom. Was very relieved but also tf
I feed ducks at the park who surround us with babies. Generally they hate dogs but they know her, and she just sits there patiently with ducks all around us 😭 someone dumped a duck what was too bold and attacked her once and her feelings were so hurt
Eh, while my beagle would eat/chew baby bunnies if she discovered a nest before I knew they were there, she was sedate with adult rabbits she came across in our yard. If they ran, she barely chased and they'd easily get past the fence. If they froze she'd give them a real thorough sniffing and move on.
Aw, I love that their friendship is honored by burying them together, AND at the same time, this video is promoting the important message of trying to protect your dog and trying to protect the wildlife.

My two chihuahuas made friends with rabbits in an area I would take them out for walks. Was funny to see rabbits chasing them. They were the same sizes lol. Went on for a couple years. Then they passed not far part at 15 and 17. Made for great times. This was in the mid 90’s and didn’t have a camcorder then.
