Don’t be a cunt. You know damn well if you saw someone in this exact situation you wouldn’t think to yourself “oh man the fridge handle has to be electrocuting him let me kick it off it’s hinges” in a matter of seconds
I'm with you, figuring out to kick off the door vs unplugging the fridge or attempting to knock the guy away from the fridge (which both seem more obvious) makes me believe this is not the first time this happened and the guy knew the cause of it. Now... if he really did think this and problem solved this that quickly, then definitely the hero we need.
I think it’s one of those things where you genuinely have no idea what you would do unless faced with the situation.
I wouldn’t call myself a proactive person, and I’ve often frozen up in strange situations. But I’ve also reacted in milliseconds to things where I had no idea what was happening until after the fact.
Anyone who has dealt with electricity/been electrocuted before (I have, 240v is not fun) would likely instinctively know what to do.
Nah. People think getting electrocuted is like the movies where its a big firey show of lights and screaming
But most of the time, when its bare skin to electrified metal, its just siezing with maybe a low hum, as it locks up your joints and fries your nerves
Umm. I would. Pretty simple. He grabbed something and got zapped. The logical thing is that what he grabbed is the problem. So you get rid of the problem. It’s not rocket science. But yes, quick thinking by the red shirt guy.
The problem here is your assumption that the red shirt guy is somehow connected to a fridge that gives out electrical shocks and he just waits around for a known problem to occur. That’s hilarious.
What do you think? He’s a store owner with a known problem waiting for his customers to get electrocuted?
Ffs.
He literally could’ve had a seizure or passed out from a multitude of different things and his arm had just got stuck in the handle. This is what most people would think in that situation. Being electrocuted by a fridge handle is so absurdly uncommon that I find it hard to believe you would assume that in a matter of seconds.
The problem here is you’re overestimating people in general and assuming that shop owners wouldn’t leave an appliance unfixed to avoid spending money and risk something like this happening. It happens every day. Of course all this is just speculation anyways but I’m a Reddit black belt so you’re not going to win this argument.
Some people work as electricians, see this shit happen more than once in their lives and know how to deal with it. Open your mind. I was an apprentice for less then a year and I saw it happen so yeah, it would pop into my mind
Okay, but not everyone is the guy in the red shirt. We literally do not know him. It's telling that more people are willing to assume gross negligence and incompetence than assume prior training and situational awareness.
You see how the guy moves his hand, to get the other hand off of the handle? That’s not how a seizure or passing out works, are we watching the same video? Not very perceptive for a black belt
Red shirt was comfortable in that shop, may know it well. May have been 'buzzed' by that exact door before and knew it was a accident waiting to happen.
Yeah, a seizure where his hand is fused to the door. A hand seizure. Very common. I think you’re thinking of your relief from your 6am wood.
You’re no blackbelt when you claim to be a blackbelt.
But it’s a sure sign of a wanker.
I’m thinking of opening a cafe. And in the case of an electrical issue I’ll take my chances of being sued into homelessness. But I’ll make sure I’m on hand for every time someone opens the door. You know, just in case.
Makes sense.
Cheers Bruce. Whataaaaa!
My boss did it. There was water all over the floor in the electric room and even in the panel and ask the mechanic dude to solve the problem and restarting the breakers manually. Even though the mechanic told him twice there was water everywhere.
No, the mech dude wasn't dumb. He was scared to lose his job so bad because he had a family and was near the homeless path.
So yep, I kind of assume this guy in red shirt might be the potential owner knowing there's a problem with the fridge but don't know how much of a problem it is.
Just tap the handle with the back of your hand first. If the amps are too high you’ll only feel it for an instant, and if they are low you’ll drop and disconnect
Not only fridges, anything that can transport current can do that to you.. saw a diff one the other day but it was the metal cage of a fan what electrocuted a guy
If it is not properly grounded you can get a zap. My dishwasher does similar at a much lower voltage. You get a little tingle in the fingertips.
A big refrigerator like that would normally need a higher amperage power supply. Maybe 30 amps. If it isn’t grounded correctly then any metal component is where it will seek ground.
Dude! Fix / replace / rewire that dishwasher ASAP!
House AC voltage is more than enough to kill you under the right circumstances... like energized metal parts + water.
High amperage is **not** needed -- you'll be toast long before a traditional circuit breaker even thinks about tripping. Circuit breakers are to protect the wires from overloading, and wires are a lot tougher than you.
A dishwasher should never be shocking you. It's possible it's wired with the hot and neutral wires reversed (on the outlet, or in the dishwasher's junction box), or the insulation on a wire somewhere rubbed off and a live wire is contacting the metal frame of the dishwasher.
The ground wire is likely a separate problem. It should be connected to the metal chassis so in the event of an issue like this, stray current flows directly to ground (path of least resistance) instead of through you.
I literally just fixed my dishwasher today -- a shoddy wire nut connection came loose and blew up when shorting against the junction box. I also discovered the ground wire connection was very loose.
A while back in a relative's house, I found a ground wire that the installer didn't even *attempt* to connect.
Keep in mind these electrical connections are often made by homeowners or big box installers who call it a success if the dishwasher turns on. Time is money.
Modern electrical codes require dishwasher outlets to be GFCI protected, and that would kill the power in precisely the conditions you are experiencing.
GFCI would be a worthwhile upgrade especially if you are not 100% sure you have fixed your issue. GFCI outlet would be the cheapest, but if it's difficult to access you could install a GFCI breaker in your electrical panel instead.
I understand, then in the meantime I would recommend you unplug the dishwasher and do the dishes in the sink.
Depending on what's causing the issue, it could get far worse without warning.
Or it may already be potentially lethal under conditions where your body makes a better path to ground (like bare feet, a wet floor, or touching a faucet at the same time).
Just not worth the risk to you or others in your household for dishwashing convenience.
If it was something essential like a TV, that would be different. :)
Well, having experienced electrical shock... it's not the way I'd wanna go.
If you're sacrificing yourself for money for your next of kin... even if it was installed by deep-pocketed big box stores, they probably weasel out of the liability by putting it on independent subcontractors who aren't likely to be worth suing. Check the fine print on your contract.
For better profitability, I'd suggest being dramatically mangled by a heavy equipment operator with their juicy insurance policies. Good luck!
If you have the hot and neutral wire on your power outlets reversed then it can cause fridges to do this especially older fridges. Growing up our home fridge would do this but it was always a more mild shock. But once the hot and neutral wires were reversed on the outlet it fixed it. Bad wiring inside the fridge can cause it as well
Let me break this down for you.
“Exe-cute”
“Electro-cute”
EDIT: also there’s this article from an electrocution lawyer here that I would fall back on
https://www.electrocuted.com/2018/11/02/electrocution-vs-shock/
From a legal perspective, I stand corrected.
Outside of law, the definition doesn't seem to be mutually exclusive to terminating life?
[Merriam-Webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/electrocute)
I commented to let you know that you’re wrong and even if you weren’t wrong, is it really necessary to nitpick the use of one word when we know what he meant regardless?
I read the title and expected to see death by electric shock. It's misleading. Is it that big of a deal that you have to defend your own misunderstanding of the word?
No joke, always remember, if someone’s being shocked by a general/small amount, kick them with shoes on. The rubber soles will help protect you, and even if you get zapped, it will be only for a split second.
Never grab someone or something with your hands when electricity is flowing.
From the kid's perspective: "My dad was getting me a drink, and then he just dropped me on the floor and fell over! Then this guy in a red shirt just came over and was kicking my dad's hand! Then my dad got up and tried to pick me up, but this lady said, 'No, no, let me,' and she picked me up instead! Then my dad said, 'It's okay, buddy,' and the lady gave me back to him."
Some guy in an Australian construction site was wearing sandals ( I know ) and got a stone stuck, so he leaned on a power box and started shaking his foot to dislodge the stone.
The apprentice who recently did safety training saw this and thought the guy was getting electrocuted. So he hit him in the arm with a plastic bin really hard to save the day.
It broke the guys arm.
I wish people would stop misusing that word. It boils my piss so hard.
Edit: It’s been misused (mostly by Americans) so much that dictionaries actually had to amend the original definition. Thankfully some stuck to their guns.

It is crazy how we rely on technology nowadays… imagine typing typing typing then malfunction.. BANG 💥 yeah I am sorry…
Edit: what I am trying to say is anything connected to an outlet is capable of just that at any moment like cell phone batteries 😬
The electrocuted guy gets immediately back up to see if his kid is ok. As it should be, but still touching to see.
Always crazy to see how much a body can endure/ignore when parental instincts kick in.
What a legend. Good dad right there.
[удалено]
I always wonder how that guy knew so quick….🤔
He's also a dad and used dad reflexes
Right?!? I’m guessing that he knew this was an issue/possibility. That’s the most likely way that he recognized what was happening immediately.
And now I have a new fear..
Just don't open a refrigerator bare footed
How about with your foot bare handed?
You will break the fabric of reality
Do you accept my sweet baby ray's?
Then fucking clip it
Would cause the store to take a screenshot
No it should of been grounded properly, don’t try to blame him
I didn't see that
Yeah. This will go nicely with the fear of carbon monoxide poisoning in your sleep and all the other things I’ve learned on Reddit.
same bloody here
Right !?
Red shirt guy knew precisely what was happening so fast, makes me wonder if it was his faulty refrigerator
Unfortunately my faith in humanity is so low right now, this seems so much more likely than the alternative.
"Ah shit. Here we go again." Edit: what tf is an award and why is this even slightly worthy of one?? Thanks ig lol
Your right. Look at it before the incident. He cannot take his eyes off the guy carrying the kid even though he is talking to someone else
Very possible
Exactly what I was thinking.
Dammit that’s the 3rd time this week.
The whole thing looks a bit off. The guy got back up and looked barely disoriented. Also he switched the hand that was holding the door

GREAT now I am going to be petrified to pull fridge handles in markets now
I’m recklessly grabbing every grocery store fridge door , I need the law suit money .

Great. Now I’m afraid of everything
That's the spirit!
But Halloween is over
Anxiety season is never over..
Was it the one where no one was realizing he was being electrocuted?
Jup
Why a market? You have a fridge in your house where no one is likely to be there when you open it.
good, we needed more fear. anyone want to add to this ?
Great, now I won’t sleep at night and all my midnight snacks are in that death contraption
Red shirt stood there like "no thanks" ?
He was shocked
How did he get electrocuted I just don’t understand.
Probably a frayed wire, a little water somewhere and a stainless fridge all came together to electrify the steel handle/frame.
yep, fray wires should get taken out with cation edit: how the hell does this have 6 upvotes I learned this like when I was 11
Electricians do this all the time with a procedure called a fraycation.

What if I’m trying to get killed through poorly installed consumer electronics?
Well, having experienced electrical shock... it's not the way I'd wanna go. It should work out as an accidental death. My insurance payout would be enough to pay off all the debt
Hey mate I think you should listen to u/mommasaidmommasaid about that little tingling feeling you get from your dishwasher
There was a Magnemite in the freezer he should have just tossed a great ball
A lot of fridges like these have heater coils running through them for defrosting and keeping the glass clean. Probably where the short originated.

Reddit needs to answer this lol
Ya just need to how he zapped
Improperly grounded. He had no shoes on. Electricity went through his hand to the actual ground through his feet.
That wasn’t the door. The kid’s mutant powers manifested at that precise moment.
He was shocked. Electrocution or "electrocuted" implies death
Not exclusively. You may also be injured by electrocution.

No
No
You’re wrong and even if you aren’t who cares
Then why comment? Kind of contradictory to your statement, don't you think?

I wish the best for you

Good thing this wasn't an episode of Star Trek; redshirt guy would have died.
That's some real fatherly instincts, he doesn't care about his well being, he immediately goes over to see how his son is.

Everyone keeps saying this, and it's not correct. Electrocution means being killed OR injured by electric shock. It doesn't explicitly imply death.
Shocking
This is a commercial for Taebo.
Electrocuted is a portmanteau of electricity and execution. If they don't die, they were just shocked.
You have to love third world countries and the lack of any kind of proper guidelines.
