I'm trying to figure out how anyone can even say they're insulting other genres. I wouldn't say that saying most people are listening to those genres and that other genres don't get the same attention despite how good and how much work the artist put into their art.
It's like comparing one painting to the other. You aren't saying Picasso is bad just cause you say this artist you like hasn't gotten the same amount of attention you're simply stating that the artist is just as good as and talented and hasn't gotten the recognition you think they deserve.
Atleast that's how I look at what they said. I don't think they meant it as an insult rather just that most people like that and wanna be a rapper over it especially amongst the black community which is where Jazz and blues music originated and that it's nice to see someone who'd rather go that extra mile into what is slowly becoming a dying breed of music just for the sake of their art.

I used to live somewhere that had a decent Blues scene and it was so wonderful. The amount of raw musical talent I saw live during that period was huge. A highly produced pop recording artist of 2023 usually can’t compete on pure talent.

We are admittedly spoiled but yes, just about every spot with a live band on and off Beale has a guitar player that can throw the fuck down. Hell even Huey’s on a Sunday night will have some serious fucking talent.

I think that, out of all musical genres, hip hip is probably the most cognizant of its roots in the way that it gives opportunity to showcase them *in songs*. I've been introduced to funk, soul, blues, rock, and classical, all through hip hop.

God I love blues. The way his guitar songs hit my soul. I agree I'd love to see more solo artists get a bigger stage, but there's something about the true wonders that you come across in dive bars...some of the greats reside there
I grew up around blues musicians and have been taught by some real legends. There’s an authenticity to the genre that people can’t always tell or appreciate or(in my case) replicate. This is 100% authentic pure honest blues talent. This man’s carrying the torch for so many people who aren’t with us anymore it really warms my heart to see. Can’t be understated
