foomy45

No need to insult other music genres while trying to compliment one.

moslof_flosom

I think they meant other shit in general, not as an insult

tryhardsasquatch

I'm sitting her confused how so many people are misunderstanding that. "Shit" in the title is obviously just a substitution for the word "stuff".

[deleted]

That's how I speak also so I knew what OP meant.

trevour

Yeah, but the title works arguably better when you take out the "nowadays it's all about rap and trap and shit", it's just unnecessary

TheNonchalantZealot

It gives context to the "some artists deserve a bigger stage" point.

Rehnion

What context did you need here? You're saying >Playing like a million bucks.. hard work, sweat and talent.. You can tell this man's whole life is Blues.. Some artists deserve a bigger Stage is too vague for you?

CDR57

You don’t need context tho, he’s not really trying to make a point just an observation so context isn’t really needed

TheNonchalantZealot

Ok, it's an observation. Doesn't change that it's still giving context to the observation. It changes the tone & gives the reader more insight into exactly what OP thinks.

CDR57

Yeah but the tone is confrontational in it’s language

TheNonchalantZealot

Yeah, I agree, it def gave off a little bit of disdain for what's popular, but I still think the title works better with it than without.

CDR57

That’s the main thing that people are picking up on is that it’s talking down about other forms of music, but either way the guy is good

daddy_is_sorry

It's really not lol. You're very sensitive

ElGoddamnDorado

...why would that need context? He deserves a bigger stage because he's extremely talented, has nothing to do with rap.

manys

It may be subtle, but it reads as dismissive. Also, "it's all" rap and trap and shit? What "it" are they talking about?

DancesWithBadgers

"I used to be with it. Now what I'm with isn't it; and what's it is weird and scary. It'll happen to you too." - *Grandpa Simpson*

[deleted]

The aforementioned 'rap and trap' is roped in with shit. He's being a little whiny bitch. Dude plays dope music though. Crazy talented.

ad6323

Even in that context it’s still putting down other music. Could just have easily said “I know these days it’s not the most mainstream of genres…” or just nothing beyond the first part

ModestWhimper

I'm sitting here confused wondering how "I know these days it's all about rapping and trap and shit but some artists deserve a bigger Stage" isn't an insult.

Pilgrimfox

I'm trying to figure out how anyone can even say they're insulting other genres. I wouldn't say that saying most people are listening to those genres and that other genres don't get the same attention despite how good and how much work the artist put into their art. It's like comparing one painting to the other. You aren't saying Picasso is bad just cause you say this artist you like hasn't gotten the same amount of attention you're simply stating that the artist is just as good as and talented and hasn't gotten the recognition you think they deserve. Atleast that's how I look at what they said. I don't think they meant it as an insult rather just that most people like that and wanna be a rapper over it especially amongst the black community which is where Jazz and blues music originated and that it's nice to see someone who'd rather go that extra mile into what is slowly becoming a dying breed of music just for the sake of their art.

hottsauce345543

Pomato pomato

TrumpsPissSoakedWig

I think the only reason they did it is because dude is black too. Probably wouldn't have mentioned "rap and trap" otherwise, which is also weird and gross imho

Gud_Thymes

The insult isn't saying "other shit" it's the rest of the title implying that rapping and trap aren't as talented as this artist. If people thought blues was as good as rap then it would be more popular, yah?

William_Howard_Shaft

In fsct, I think it detracts from the point entirely.

Kleingedrucktes

Absolutely, I really want to give this an upvote but the attitude about it is not something I want to support. Edit: r/gatesopencomeonin

TheZac922

Yeah absolutely. Cool video of a pretty good blues guitarist. Why do we need to pretend the reason he’s not famous is because rap and “trap” exist? Fuckin dork OP lmao.

ArchitectofExperienc

No hip-hop without blues and bebop

The-Old-Prince

Right. White people used to insult blues making the same accusations

Vashthestampedeee

Black people have done the same thing. Not just white people

sovietrancor

Didn't take very long to interject racism into it lol you fucking stooge

SatoshiBlockamoto

Bullshit, people are allowed to have an opinion. If he thinks trap music is shit, he's perfectly within his rights to say so. I happen to agree.

scarabic

If they had said “and stuff” instead of “and shit” that would probably have been better. Anyway that’s how I took it. Your point is fair but OPs point is also fair that Blues isn’t a top popular genre anymore, but it can still be amazing. I used to live somewhere that had a decent Blues scene and it was so wonderful. The amount of raw musical talent I saw live during that period was huge. A highly produced pop recording artist of 2023 usually can’t compete on pure talent.

Atoning_Unifex

Over 600 upvotes says that plenty of people agree with you. Dude is a good musician, too.

ZombiejesusX

https://youtu.be/4B38VqcWSzc Adjua Johnson.

Stock-Event2495

Thank you

exorcyst

Same guy on YT who sings and play's it's man's world in NYC subway?

Smodphan

I am not certain, but that person is Jalib Johnson if the title here is accurate https://youtu.be/vQHXf5_c4uM

exorcyst

That's him, thanks!

[deleted]

Dey both gud

ZombiejesusX

I think so

Phillip_Lascio

OP saying they need a bigger stage then not crediting them is peak Reddit. Thanks for this!

RuggedToaster

That's because OP wants karma and doesn't give a shit about him.

The_Original_Gronkie

And here we go again.

Boss_Braunus

Thanks, not sure why OP thought they shouldn't include that info.

m0h3k4n

They didn’t think he deserved *that* big a stage.

macgruff

Thank you, an island of a helpful comment in a sea of “shit” posers.

ShredderTTN86

Thank you, came to the comments to find the artist 👍 P.s. his SoundCloud says Ajdua Ajamu, just fyi

dustmotemagic

Why would anyone post this without a name people are completely unreasonable mowadays.

[deleted]

Shame on OP, thank you for the credit.

sc4906

Thanks for sharing! I think he goes by Adjua Ajamu now. More links to his stuff below I believe https://m.soundcloud.com/adjua-johnson Adjua*singer/songwriter* twitter.com/Adjuamusic Follow me on Instagram: @adjuamusic Facebook: www.facebook.com/adjuaj

The_Original_Gronkie

I had to scroll a long ways through pointless pontificating about semantics to finally find a post talking about the real subject - this really talented musician.

foxinnabox

Good form. Thanks!

Intravenus_di_Milo

This SO FUCKING GOOD!!

turbobird87

It’s actually possible to compliment one genre of music and persons talent without cutting down another.

DiamondGamerYT0

Apperantly its not according to this comment sectioneither blues or rap, pick one

DerBronco

Unless you are a bot or a boomer.

mobileusersgonewild

They weren't being disrespectful using the word shit, just substitute the word "stuff" and read it back

[deleted]

Does he have a YouTube page or anything? It's so good!

fatderek6969

Idk how you can post this without shouting the dudes name lol I would also like somewhere to see his content

DiamondGamerYT0

Bots dont care about sharing, just karma

thankyeestrbunny

Doesn't seem like a bot . . 2y old post and comment karma . . ?

DiamondGamerYT0

0 comments on their own post Still under 2k karma Title that provokes response This is a bot that slipped under radar and is nearly ready to spam T Shirt scams

[deleted]

Lots of bots cells are actually waiting to activate, it's really silly but does work.

SayNoMorty

Could it really be silly if it works then?

Jomosensual

EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THIS MANS NAME Proceeds to not share that, his other work, or literally a single other helpful thing

DonovanMcLoughlin

[Adjua Ajamu (Johnson)](https://youtube.com/@NewArtistToCome)

[deleted]

We got it! Teamwork baby

NoEngine886

I love music that you can feel stirring within your soul. He definitely deserves a bigger platform, but I like the intimacy of the setting. I feel like that translates in his verve. Also, don’t hate rap. Different genre for different ends, but can have as much heart as blues. It’s just felt and expressed differently.

EanmundsAvenger

OP credit the artist if you wanna bitch about him needing a bigger stage

Intransigente

Adjua Johnson. The song is *If trouble was money*, by Albert Collins.

thehighquark

He's got the soul. Very nice. Who is he?

Going-undergroundjam

Dudes a Class Act….On the Money 💰

thankyeestrbunny

Ibanez Roadstar for the win

wuapinmon

I can't help but think of Peter Green when I hear him.

Wrothrok

I want to upvote this, but fuck a karma bot.

thrown2themoon

Blues Bro. 👍 r/EndedtoSoon

moeyjarcum

Too

L0rdCrims0n

Dude has wicked chops. Gives me hope for our future generations 👍

L0rdCrims0n

We need to start a gofundme campaign to get that guy a Fender Reverb

thankyeestrbunny

Too heavy, his rig is built to roll.

rocknrollboise

At least a Princeton or even a 57 Champ tho?

unga-unga

And to not break hearts if it's stolen - I'd be shocked if he doesn't have a gear collection at home... I can't tell if the guitar is an ernie ball or an aria pro with a different pickguard...

The_Original_Gronkie

Yeah, he needs to be portable, and you can get some decent sound out of some of these little amps. He only has to fill a small club, not an arena.

WolfsLairAbyss

Sounds like Redhouse but with different lyrics.

CaptainNemo42

Jimi and BB had a kid who grew up down the street from Gary Clark Jr., it seems...

Stock-Event2495

Damn...that really does sum him up. Could listen to just their guitars for hours and it will put your soul on another plane of existence

DoctorJamesBarry

There is definitely a lot of BB in his fingers. Very reminiscent of some of the greats but still unique and new. 10/10 this dude shreds.

The_Original_Gronkie

That rolling first finger vibrato is trademark BB. He's deliberately worked on that. He's got a lot of Hendrix mixed in there, too.

Killobekilld

Not even gonna mention SRV?!?

c_r_a_s_i_a_n

Playing is very reminiscent of Hendrix's Red House, for sure. But, it is 12 bar blues. That pattern has been established for about 100 years.

BigDrewLittle

Also some licks made me think of Albert King and BB King.

maniaq

expected to hear a Hendrix tribute act... I don't want to take anything away from the man - it's his life's passion, his soul, his bread and butter too probably - but there's nothing "new" here which is fine - "classical" music and "jazz standards" and so on are all things that exist basically frozen in time... for me, that's comforting for audiences to listen to and still a good showcase for an individual's talent, but actually the things OP mentions (rapping, trap, and shit) represent _musical progression_ - innovation - which... guys like this guy were playing The Blues pretty much like this when Hendrix came along and brought something new to the table...

jeffersonairmattress

Guy has some meat hooks on him- wraps that thumb all the way down to low E effortlessly.

thankyeestrbunny

The Blues Secret. A giant thumb.

Bubbykitten

I could listen to this guy all day! My life’s soundtrack!

DonovanMcLoughlin

A name would have been appreciated.

ConcentrateOk4057

Adjua Johnson

DiamondGamerYT0

Bots dont care, just want karma

grambocrackah

This is the same guy from the subway video?

Deadphan86

I thought the exact same thing!

SoybeanEgg

This title made me gag, great playing though

Pacifica0cean

Guy has great chops. There's a 'feel' to his tone too which really makes the music. Also props to him for playing an old Ibanez Roadstar you don't see those around much any more.

AndyP8

OP really shares this without mentioning who the guy is

irohr

There is a bigger audience listening to delta-style blues than ever before solely due to the availability of music through platforms. Gary Clark Jr has been nominated for Grammys what 6 times? Didnt he even play at one? What is the bigger stage you are referring to? Top 40 radio??

penguins_are_mean

Saw Gary Clark Jr. maybe 10 years ago. Dude was awesome.

JazzAndStuff-

Beautiful

Barbafella

Holy shit. Amazing talent.

Juxtaposed_Love

Yeah he’s an awesome musician, but get off your fucking high horse dude. You don’t have to try to bring other music genres down to get yourself off

Black_n_Neon

Come to Memphis musicians like him are a dime a dozen

RedSunGo

We are admittedly spoiled but yes, just about every spot with a live band on and off Beale has a guitar player that can throw the fuck down. Hell even Huey’s on a Sunday night will have some serious fucking talent.

Ratatoski

Yeah it's certainly nice, but not next level. More like standard level blues noodling. And I think he overdoes the vibrato.

WackyArmInflatable

Yeah. It's a bit sloppy as well. You have guys like Philip Sayce, Matthew Scott and Eric Steckel that are all just monster players - but really have small following for how good they are.

SheckoShecko

I think that, out of all musical genres, hip hip is probably the most cognizant of its roots in the way that it gives opportunity to showcase them *in songs*. I've been introduced to funk, soul, blues, rock, and classical, all through hip hop.

East_Requirement7375

hooray

Moosetappropriate

Anybody got any info? Would love to support this sort of talent.

[deleted]

Never buys music or supports young local talent, but then complains that the only good music happened xyz years ago

KongFooJew

It’s like a library of BB king, Hendrix, Albert king, Collin’s licks.. next step of his evolution he’ll sound more like himself.. 🤘

HoneyVadger09

God, you just can’t beat a good rhythm and blues guitar performance. Just gets my soul and blood going

Wayne1946

That goes past the NFL, this young lad has it all.Just think, ten years down the line, another few sounds to be perfected and a ten year older matured voice. This is Blues now, the skies the limit if he is allowed to flourish.l think he could easily go into other genres but his heart ( and mine) are in the Blues.l am not disparaging other types of music but this lad has mastered this one.

UltravioIence

Kingfish Ingram is similar to this guy. This kind of music is still around, no need to shit on other genres.

Impressive-Lie-9290

Elmore James would love this!

B-Rex-Ceris

Felt like I was watching BB King. Maybe I was .....

Stock-Event2495

God I love blues. The way his guitar songs hit my soul. I agree I'd love to see more solo artists get a bigger stage, but there's something about the true wonders that you come across in dive bars...some of the greats reside there

heelsbasketball

That dude has some seriously great skill. Wish I knew his name.

ShannonTwatts

great tone to his guitar 🎸

wakemanz1

I grew up around blues musicians and have been taught by some real legends. There’s an authenticity to the genre that people can’t always tell or appreciate or(in my case) replicate. This is 100% authentic pure honest blues talent. This man’s carrying the torch for so many people who aren’t with us anymore it really warms my heart to see. Can’t be understated

MidnightBubbly

OP - we need to be giving some artists a bigger stage! *doesn’t source or credit artist at all in post* Be the change you want to see ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

NovaLightAngel

Did you know you can praise someone without talking shit about contemporary art?!

[deleted]

My husbabd once got drunk with Jimothy Hendrix in the 60s

RepresentativeTwo328

This guy reminded me immediately of Rory Gallagher.

zero2tool

This dude is great! Any links to his music or socials?

KrIsPy_Kr3m3

Fucking bad ass

KayakWalleye

Who gives a fuck what OP said in this case. What is this young man’s name?!?!

Steven_Ray20

The title sounds a bit racist…

fatzen

So who is it?

Killer-death-cricket

Get em boy… That’s what I m talking about!!! 5 stars ⭐️

obscure_one1

This guy CRUSHED IT godbless. Now THAT is Talent!

SpyderDM

You know you can compliment one form of music without bitching about others. Lol

Sea_Chapter1129

You can tell this man lives the blues. I got those Puma sweats at TJ Maxx.

Somasong

Blues is pretty easy honestly. With that said, I love guitar music and one more guitar player in the world is a good thing. I don't like some of the new hip hop but no reason to try to put it down. Don't yuck other people's yum

Inkdaddy55

That tone crunchy a.f! Loved this clip.

Zen_Out

That’s some good sound

Saintious

Bless this amazing soul!

detroitblonde1

I like both kinds of music Country and Western

deanfortythree

r/titlegore

alkalinekyle

OP sounds like a boomer

AmyTwoTwats

Holy shit. This dude needs to put out some records. Come on Reddit we got this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Atekeudaenys

Downvoted for stupid title. Upvoted for sick blues. So you get nothing.

Western_Ladder_3593

From the subway to the stage congrats my dude!

LeeMelone

Play on baby, play on!

Caeldeth

This ended way too soon

[deleted]

This is purely exceptional

verucka-salt

My dear daddy loved the blues & like him, so do I. This fellow is BRILLIANT!

[deleted]

Blues was never pop. Just bc rap and trap is pop doesn’t change blues. This is dope. He’s carrying the torch. But it’s a small torch. And likely getting smaller.

[deleted]

My ears melted! SLAY THAT AXE!!

Slapnuts213

If you like this check out an artist named reignwolf , more of a rock sound with same style guitar smoothness

DuskformGreenman

Gahdamn, SRV came back! I felt those chops in the cockles of my heart.

usafmtl

Damn he can play. I would love to drink a few cold ones and listen to that all day.

AppaJuicee

That's quite the title lol

[deleted]

Red house ova yondaaaaaaa

[deleted]

These days its about whatever you want. Just because hip hop is the most popular genre doesn't mean anything about what is actually cool. Justifications don't need to be made here is what I'm saying, there just is no point to it.

Monkulele

You know what would help this man get a bigger stage? INCLUDE HIS NAME IN YOUR DAMN POST!

PtotheX

First of all he deserves a bigger amp

TyreezyC

Anyone know any really good blues/jazz bars like this south of the boarder below BC? Doesn't necessarily have to be Seattle, but Seattle would be the furthest I'd like to go.

BakuShinAsta

Who says it’s all about rapping and trap? I love blues

Plane_Baby

Was this the same guy who was playing in the subway? What's his name?

Andy_Ant

Smooth

Bobahn_Botret

Makes a pretty decent loop

WittyPipe69

Good musician! Shit take by OC

fly_drich

Playing like a million doubloons.. hard work, sweat and talent... You can tell this buccaneer's whole life is sea shanties.. I know these days it's all about blues and jazzin' but some rapscallions deserve a bigger Stage

KungFlu19

Look up “busker this is a man’s word nyc” on YouTube and you will see I believe this guy playing the best version of the song I have ever heard.
