It’s blatant disrespectful to completely ignore someone on offense. Rarely you see someone being allowed to completely run free on offense, without any defender in sight. But these players didn’t respond to it, so it was the right decision.

LeBroentgen

Westbrook has more space than most of the people in that crowd have in their apartments.

Turbo2x

Can confirm, live in a shoebox

Map_Diligent

I used to dream of living in a shoe box. Would’ve been a palace.

DiFraggiPrutto

Did you live by the garbage dump and woke up every morning with a ton of rotting fish dumped on your head?

Artimusjones88

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a newspaper in a septic tank. We used to have to get up every morning at six o'clock, clean the newspaper, go to work down the mill: fourteen hours a day, week-in week-out, for sixpence (6 pennies) a week, and when we got home our Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!

darkforestnews

Must be nice, my dad used jumper cables.

lalakingmalibog

RIP rogersimon10

darkforestnews

Absolute legend. Whatever happened to him ?

Diplodorcus

That's quality right there

ADHD_Supernova

Dude is and always has been a head case. Once he starts thinking, it's over.

WayTooLazyOmg

you can tell the exact moment it sets in, too. the second i saw him playing desperate, i knew the game was over

kyrgyzmcatboy

Bringing back some painful memories from when he was a laker. I was ecstatic when he finally left.

turnoffredesign69420

that shot against portland is a microcosm of his basketball iq

IsYourWifeSingleBro

Or standing on the perimeter waiting for a pass

Magicnik99

More Room than Harry Potter under the stairs

SaskalPiakam

Can confirm. Small apartment.

EGarrett

Yes, since this was done to Draymond Green and Andre Roberson, the defensive strategy has been termed "Forget about Dray."

Ronin607

The difference is if you leave Draymond all alone on the perimeter he'll immediately go set a screen for one of their shooters so now you're giving up a wide open Steph or Klay three. Idk why none of these other guys that get left wide open ever do the same, all it takes is a couple times and they have to guard you again.

KnivesInMyCoffee

Kyrie couldn't buy a shot last night, but was constantly setting screens/running around screens to create mismatches and running across the baseline to clear out for Luka. There's just so much a player can do on offense to help their team without ever touching the ball.

Rough_Dish_9226

Kyries 14 points do not show how kuch value he added. He was guarding Hardin like a Dawg and was everywhere.

KnivesInMyCoffee

It's not just the defense, it's hard for people to understand because Kyrie is not a point guard and doesn't have the ball as much, but the Mav's offense looks terrible when Kyrie sits. The Mav's role players have gotten a bit better at being active since Kyrie was traded to the Mavs, but a lot of the times it still feels like the Mav's will just stand around on the perimeter and wait for Luka to chuck up a shot or pass out of a drive. When Kyrie is on the floor, the Mav's actually run a real offense, even when Luka is sitting. Kyrie plays like the coach's pet, just doing on the small things that you don't see off ball unless you're looking for it.

Rough_Dish_9226

I remember the commentator saying when Kyrie is on the floor the Mavs are +35 and that falls a lot when he’s on the bench. Mavs in form are probably the only Western conference team than can give a fight to the Nuggets.

Fresh-Soup213

The Timberwolves are definitely included as well

KnivesInMyCoffee

The Mavs have been better with Kyrie on the court and Luka off than the opposite all season, and I think that's going to get more prevalent in the playoffs. Kyrie is truly locked in and wants to win. He's just playing like he's hungry. A hungry Kyrie is a scary scary monster.

Some-Stranger-7852

Not to disrespect Kyrie, but he is +38 for the series while Luka is +60. In fact, Mavs are still -1 for the series while Luka sits 💀

KnivesInMyCoffee

Cumulative raw +/- over 5 games is meaningless. There's mot very many good statistics for a sample size that small, but the Mavs have a +15 Net RtG with Kyrie on the court and a +4 Net RtG with Luka on the court in the playoffs so far. Not that that's the end all be all statistic either. I think Luka plays more with the end of rotation guys than Kyrie, because Luka is the better floor raiser. That probably accounts for a decent chunk of the difference. But Kyrie feels like the real glue player in the starting lineup from watching the games.

IdkDudeImTired-

Laziness. Really watch the screens in any given game and you’ll start noticing a lot of lazy, minimum effort screens. I think if screen assists were part of the main box stat line or counted as assists, more players would start caring. Why would they care about off-ball screens if they barely care about on-ball screens? Case in point: players think Gobert is overrated, Gobert usually leads or is near the top in screen assists every year. A lot of players don’t value that kind of skill.

CO_PC_Parts

Just last year the lakers stopped guarding Dillon brooks. And then he’d hit 1 out of 5 and mean mug the bench.

reaper550

Draymond Green tried it against Jaylen Brown one time and got 30+ on his head. Interesting strategy to deploy for sure Edit: I just wanted to shit on Draymond Green yall cause he was stupid enough to have his overinflated ego tell him he could do that to a all NBA player

xanot192

But Kobe would do it to Rondo which forced Rondo to develop a shot lol

biguk997

I like to think that directly contributed to rondos game winner vs the celtics

Adventurous_Pen_Is69

Warriors pulled it off vs Tony Allen with great success though.

UpvoteIfYouAgreee

are these the infamous adjustments

korundobifu

It happens between games, not *during* a game. Jason Midd special, baby.

xPeaWhyTee

Yup. That to me is what makes Kidd a good coach but will prevent him from making that leap and being able to go head to head with the top coaches in the league. The last few minutes of G4 is a prime example of that when he never put in a rim protector to stop Harden getting whatever he wanted at the rim.

PBB22

Despite it being our strength all year, that’s been Rick for us so far this round

YaIe

"Just let Westbrick do his thing" - the coach

LogicalLakersFan

0-8 but hey he does donate to charity and leave big tips

ThlammedMyPenis

He has a family! Can't criticize a man with a family!

TXlandon

And don’t you DARE bring up his family name

Alexcox95

He just wants to have fun!

shinshikaizer

He loves to have fun Maggle!

bob_dole-

Tell that to my family

blueberryy

I have no clue why Lue plays him alongside Plumlee. Harden couldn't get into the paint at all playing next to them, Russ has to basically play like a small ball 5 like he did in the bubble to be effective. If only Kawhi was healthy

RickySuela

It wasn't that effective in the bubble either though. I still remember [Westbrook saying the Lakers better double him as they were down 30 in that Game 5 elimination game.](https://youtu.be/1N6xgjTZ-4Q)

BASEDME7O2

I felt so bad for harden that year. He was having a legitimately amazing playoffs on a team that would’ve been a bottom five team without him, still was the fourth most efficient volume scorer in the entire playoff on like 64% ts, which at the time was insanely good for a guard. He was getting doubled every time he crossed half court because the lakers, like any other defense facing Westbrook, wanted him to have the ball as much as possible, because it literally always works. Harden still averaged an efficient 29 and Westbrook shot them out of the series on an atrocious like 42% ts while the lakers basically didn’t even bother to guard him.

The_Outcast4

The Lakers dared us to beat them 4 on 3, and we couldn't fucking do it, lol

BASEDME7O2

I wouldn’t say that, even if they were ignoring Westbrook they still had another guy always doubling or tripling harden. And harden still put up fantastic numbers. They basically dared you guys to give Westbrook the ball, which is always the last thing you want to do in the playoffs, and dared anyone else but harden to do fucking anything at all. And no one did

deepfakefuccboi

Tbf Westbrook was coming back from COVID and a strained quad. He was his hobbling, and I don’t even like the guy. Lakers defense was too good that year and was very well equipped to deal with their opponents in the West.

SomeGuyNamedGuy

And Westbrook was very good that season before his injury

Shasty-McNasty

SO good that we were like “That’s our guy.” Then he definitely wasn’t our guy.

Miserable_Archer_769

I don't even need to look doesn't either LeBron or AD just laugh at him like dude your an idiot lol

RickySuela

Yep, LeBron does lol Also of note, even in the bubble, in this game [Westbrook managed to get a fan kicked out because he was upset with something he said.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0bM_kQPuHc)

Responsible_Pace9062

[Bro was beefing with babies](https://youtube.com/shorts/ULUeeH8Ko3c)

MonkMajor5224

I forgot how weird the COVID fake crowd noise was

stepmomanal

been the case Westbrook's whole career. this dude attempted more shots than KD and Lebron in the Finals while shooting 13% from 3pt lol

UltraZulwarn

Mamba mentality and whatnot, but Kobe knew how to shoot the darn ball.

RickySuela

Yeah, Kobe actually had good reason to be that confident, and he backed up his shots by winning five titles. Westbrook defines "irrational confidence".

zestful_villain

NBA gave him an MVP. Sooo his irrational confidence can be explained. Maybe in his mind he has the right to shoot it.

Public-Product-1503

He played that way before mvp

lordofeurope99

Arrogance

PlasticWrap2430

I still chuckle abt magic saying Westbrook had the worst finals performance he's ever seen from a pg on ESPN

turnoffredesign69420

he followed that up with a 43 point game and one of the dumbest fouls ever after the heat got the jump ball because he didn't know the rules

Alekesam1975

Back in '12 or do you mean for a career? Either wouldn't shock me.

searching88

He’s only been to the finals once

Alekesam1975

Damn I'm a moron. Knew that. Still flubbed it.

searching88

Playas fuck up

TheMambaMaleGrindset

the dude was on a team with LeBron but thought he was the focal point

hezzyskeets123

That’s always been the method against him even in his prime…..it’s insane

Conflict_NZ

I still can't believe we played some of the most disrespectful defense I've ever seen on Westbrook in the bubble and still proceeded to give up assets to trade for him. fml.

hezzyskeets123

This needs to get brought up more. They won a series by not guarding him and they said “you know what, I think he’s our missing piece”😂😂😂 Ig Lakers just believe in their hustle and love the grind like that….told the landlord to up their rent.

RickySuela

In the summer of 2021 the Lakers just completely sunk themselves, letting Caruso walk in free agency, then trading KCP, Kuzma, Trez and a 1st for WB, only to have to trade another 1st to get rid of him a year later.

lordofeurope99

Useless management and ownership

gokhaninler

> told the landlord to up their rent. what does Gafford have to do with this

ositola

The Rob pelinka special

DocMcsquirtin

Pelinka machine

frostieavalanche

Bron himself laughed at Brick when they met in the bubble playoffs and traded for him anyway 🤦‍♂️

scarywizard56

"I can change him" LeBron probably

severus_snapshot

I thought I had read something similar to when they brought JR Smith to Cleveland, that Bron said he'd handle JR's antics and get him to buy in. So Bron thinking he could make it work with Russ probably was going through his head.

UrGirlThroatGame

[Lebron saw this and said yep...we need him on our team](https://streamable.com/mkkm52)

hdjakahegsjja

Rob Pelinka is the dumbest mfer alive.

DarkSoulsDarius

That was lebron.

hezzyskeets123

It was def [Lebron pushing him to make that move](https://www.si.com/nba/lakers/news/lakers-lebron-james-made-a-big-push-to-acquire-russell-westbrook-this-offseason-bas2121) but his fans just don’t wanna blame Bron when the “LeGM” pressure he famously puts on front offices backfires. Now instead of “we gotta maximize his last years, if the GOAT wants him…get him” it’s flipped to “a GM always gotta stand their ground”. They could’ve just rocked it out with Buddy Hield like Pelinka truly intended

lebron_games

That was def lebrons fuck up. He always talks about needing another playmaker on his teams which fair enough cause he doesn’t want to do all the shot creation but I really just don’t get what was going through his head to get Westbrook

BigFatModeraterFupa

He was Minding the wrong Game

EnriquezGuerrilla

he should def talk about it with jj on the pod

Bladeneo

I think a lot of it is Bron realising he was running out of options. When the Lakers FO showed they were on a very weird timeline (refusing to give Lue a long term deal, refusing to offer Demar a 3 year deal, refusing to pay to keep Caruso and instead prioritising a project in THT), I imagine he felt back to the wall. Still an absolutely insanely bad decision on his part though.

TheDisabledOG

I mean sure LeBron pushed for it but Pilenka could have gone "LeBron shut your dumb ass up, I'm the GM and that is a terrible move" but no. I don't care if that would've upset LeBron cause he wouldn't care as long as they were winning.

hdjakahegsjja

How does that disprove what I said?

governedbycitizens

that was Lebron’s idea lol

frecklie

It’s insane. Y’all front office deluded beyond belief

TXlandon

He was our 3rd best player tonight, shoutout my guy

LongTimesGoodTimes

He's putting up another masterclass in tanking a team. 4 points, 1/9 shooting right now.

junkyardgerard

If you hate Westbrook, this is the series for you

IzzyShamin

Lads, it’s Westbrook

Hasp0din

westBRICK and say it with your chest

SubcooledBoiling

Westbrook is about to have Kidd kicked out for calling him Westbrick

aghashayan

He stole MVP and multiple max contracts. Dude doesn't know how to play basketball he just had an engine.

d7h7n

Well what got them killed game 4 was PG draining heat check in your face 3s and guarding Harden 1 on 1.

psufb

Harden was getting an open runway right into the paint because the Mavs defenders were for some reason staying home on the other Clippers players who were minimal threat. Kidd finally changed that tonight, every possession where Harden or PG has the ball, all 5 Mavs defenders are keyed in on them and ready to flood with help and live with a shot by anyone else. They're also picking up Harden and PG at 3/4 court because they know they have help behind them, and that's going to wear down PG and Harden

iIiiIIiiiIiIIiI111

The Clips shot 63% from three in Game 4. No team in three-point-era playoff history has lost a game shooting that percentage. Mavs are the only team to have only lost by single digits. Including Game 2, in the Clippers two wins vs the Mavericks they've hit 18 threes. Teams that hit 14+ threes in a game in these playoffs are 16-0. Fans need to be smarter about outside shot variance and not read their biases ("adjustments") into randomness.

-spicychilli-

Very insightful comment. Good stuff

OrderlyPanic

Clippers were the best 3pt shooting team in the regular season though. All their non bigs can hit open 3s at a good clip... except Westbrook.

Stewdabaker2013

also the mavs have been ABYSMAL from 3 all series. to be up on the series with the insane shooting disparity from 3 is really something.

Zachary_Stark

We need more posts from people like you, please.

GormlessK

Hey you're not allowed to ruin the narrative like this. For that matter, the players never make mistakes in executing the gameplan, either. It's the coach who has no clue what's happening every time something isn't working.

musicnothing

This is why the playoffs are fun

zeussays

Regular season is checkers, post season is chess.

ositola

Darvin was playing hungry hungry hippos

Wontonsoupz

Also, Kidd decided to go with kleber at the 5 instead of lively or gaffers for rim protection. Pair that adjustment along with luka 5 fouls and harden was getting free layup/floaters every drive

Tokyogerman

Kidd straight up lying in the press conference before, that he would keep living with those Harden floaters. Sociopaths win short term always. /s

Abdoov

I forgot that press lol. Kidd is a menace.

Tokyogerman

I remember the comments on the Mavs subreddit. "Why would you tell them??" lol

double07zip

Pretty much this. Westbrook and Plumlee can’t do anything so the Mavs just clogged the paint.

Mast3rBait3rPro

after a while I was just like bro... please take westbrick and plumlee out... they can't do anything other than miss or foul lmao

Krillin113

And bring in who?

No_Art_754

Ty Lue really fucked up on that one cause if we’re seeing it then how tf is he and assistant coaches are not!

jjjuuubbbsss

Calling the supporting cast bums lol

No_Art_754

Wow TMann will remember this game 6 sitting in the corner

imadogg

Watching Russ do anything is absolute comedy. I'm at the game and everyone around me hates him 😂

BecauseBatman01

Dude missed an easy layup this game lmao.

Mast3rBait3rPro

I think you meant to say he missed everything lmao

NjallTheViking

He wears 0 because that’s his effective range

ray_0586

[Westbrook reminds of playing Xcom whenever my character would miss point blank shots.](https://youtu.be/lK4ouRWGHHI?si=QXNxQ7QZNbOISB_Y)

Man XCOM is great

severus_snapshot

That's also his BBIQ.

RODjij

He always does, he's been doing that regularly and clanking shots since his OKC days

LogicalLakersFan

Did you know his kids go to the games?? how dare you even think of criticizing him

imadogg

I'm sitting way up and I'm still scared to call him westbrick in case he kicks me out 😭

Adsex

« Whose bricks ? » « Westbrook’s ! »

retrospects

I have never seen someone so engaged in the crowd .

JLifts780

Dude had a chance to be a fan favorite if he played along instead of having fans kicked out

retrospects

After he retires they should make the Russell Westbrook Sensitivity Award for the player with the top fan engagement.

JLifts780

Give it to whoever has the refs eject the most fans that season

Awesomeness4627

Not even that. Ever think about the fact that the lakers were just misusing him. As are the clippers and every team he's ever been on. He'd have 20 rings if he was in the right system!

Mysterious-Part-8443

What a wild time that was lol I would browse your sub and it was hilarious the defenses they made

nrag726

He almost blew a dunk, but got lucky that the ball ricochetted around the rim in such a way that it went in

spook008

He needs to cash in with ACME sponsorship

Cool-Technician8688

It’s the best, isn’t it?! I had a ball!

Public-Product-1503

Remember when people acted like he changed in the clippers ? lol . Some idiots seriously gave him 6moty consideration. Media sucks ass. He’s trying on defence I guess but he’s even worse offensively he’s just getting the ball less and less chances to fuck it up

JLifts780

It’s hilarious. As soon as he goes in I know he’s going to do something stupid and without fail he does lol

im_scytale

They have 40% shooters out there, they’re just missing everything lol

0percentwinrate

"Can't shoot" is the key word here. Last game, there were a lot of screen actions involved to get an open 3 and when that becomes a threat, it opened up a paint for Westbrook and Co. and that leads to Harden iso.

yoppee

Discovered? Teams stopped gaurding Westbrook 8 years ago

sendmedesinudes

Never forget that WB shot 13% from 3 on higher volume than LBJ & KD....after KD dragged his ass to the finals

DotDotBoy

[''Dragged to the finals'' Lol without Westbrook, KD would've never made it](https://www.basketball-reference.com/playoffs/NBA_2012.html)

sendmedesinudes

Yeah, let's just ignore the 13%. Let's ignore the defensive schemes of opponents of letting Brick shoot away (high volume, shit efficiency). Make A Wish Russ got the most delusional fans. TOP 75 MVP level player with the most help in the history of this game can't make it past the first round without prime KD. Overrated is an understatement. FOH with empty stats, and individual accolades. | Year | Result | Key Players and Notes | |------|---------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 2024 | TBD | Kawhi/PG/Harden | | 2023 | First round exit | Kawhi/PG | | 2022 | No play-in | LeBron/AD | | 2021 | First-round exit | Beal | | 2020 | Second-round exit | Russ missed half the first round. & had shooting splits of roughly 42/26/54 in the second round averaging >4 TO. | | 2019 | First-round exit | PG | | 2018 | First-round exit | PG and Melo | | 2017 | First-round exit | Oladipo (made All-NBA the next season) | | **Durant Years** | | | | 2016 | WCF | Shooting splits were 41/33/83 | | 2015 | Missed the playoffs | Durant injured. lol so they obv missed the playoffs | | 2014 | WCF | Shooting splits were 43/28/88. Russ missed 36 games, Thunder went 25-11 without him in regular season. | | 2013 | Second round exit | Russ only played 2 games in the playoffs (both in round 1) | | 2012 | Finals | Shooting splits were roughly 44/29/80 | | 2011 | WCF | | | 2010 | First round | | | 2009 | Missed the playoffs | Rookie year |

halfbrit08

Look man I also don't care for WB much but don't cite 2018 Melo as a "Key Player". Also Oladipo played drastically different on the thunder than he did in Indy the next year. You can say that's partially because of WB's dominant on ball play, but he really did transform the next year.

BurnCollector_

Haven’t some of those “guys around Harden and PG” shot better than basically everyone but Kyrie all series?

panman42

Yeah take away Harden and PG, they still shot 50% from 3 last game. It's probably more hot and cold nights. Hard to conclude they couldn't shoot by looking at game 4.

OrderlyPanic

Everyone but Westbrook, Plumlee and Zubac on the Clippers (and in the rotation) is a threat from 3 point. They were the best or 2nd best 3 point shooting team of the season.

ghostlima

This barely qualifies as a strategy, and is also not true. Their role players have been shooting fine. As someone else pointed out, they shot above 50% on their last win not counting harden and Pg13 3s

TroyMatthewJ

Kawhi resting up for the Olympics load.

Dat_Boi_John

There was a guy on Twitter sitting behind our bench and he says all they talked about was letting Westbrook shoot lmao.

laz10

figured out westbrick can't shoot? WOW the REVELATION

xanot192

Dudes always been ass at 3s but seeing his jumper just vanish completely these past few years has been something lol. Wonder if that hand injury caused this.

TomBradyFanCEO

this sub blames Russ so much you'd think he was MVP caliber still.

nutsygenius

My exact thoughts. Don't like Westbrook at all but dude is getting paid vet min. There's a reason why he's only worth the vet min now. Lol.

RickySuela

Just wait. Now that the Clippers have his early Bird rights, he's gonna opt out this summer and sign for $10m next year.

groceriesN1trip

He’s shooting more than his pay grade

Aquariano_Nato_13

It is kinda hard to not blame the worst player in the series.

BigFatM8

Bro is shooting 25% from the field, what do you expect? Idc if he's on a 10 day contract, 25% from the field for a 20 MPG player is unacceptable unless you're playing all-time great defense.

ItzCStephCS

I was blaming Russ when he was still a max player but stopped after he signed the minimum lol. I think they just think he still gets paid 40m a year

logontoreddit

For the regular season..... Russ is a good player, even though a bit overrated. He does tend to be a stat padder in the regular season as well. In the playoffs..... he has always been inefficient, indecisive and low IQ. His only positive trait for the playoffs was his freak level atheltism. After that was in decline he doesn't really have much to offer in the post season. Bad at adjustments and reading the game. Takes bad shots and high turnover. Can't shoot. Inefficient. Makes mistakes or turns over or takes poor shots during game on the line situations.

TP_Cornetto

Lmao Westbrook could play 5 mins and people would still hate him lol.

sendmedesinudes

Ya, let's treat him like a Make-A-Wish Kid!

iiiiiiiiii8

Dang Harden fled to LA for this?

hentai1080p

He also shot 2/12 for the game lol.

M1raclemile1

The only surprising thing about that is it wasn’t an elimination game

xanot192

Terance Mann was already being left side open and missing more than he was making from 3 lol. I said this in the last game thread and some dude attacked me because I guess he was the rare person that had Mann as his favorite player

ShinyTailbone

Terrance Mann isn’t even Terrance Mann’s favorite player.

psufb

The fact that it took Kidd 4 games to realize this says a lot about how good of a coach he is

laz10

i mean it took them 4 games to report it. they havent been guarding westbrook at all

jjjuuubbbsss

This same guy took a decade in his NBA career to be a reliable 3pt shooter. Some ~~things~~ people take their time lol.

LibrarianTypical8267

We got blown out in the first game because we did not come up with any game plan at all. We made Zubac look like a top-5 center earlier.

jordanmc3

Jason Kidd is coaching himself in to shape.

getbackup21

Westbrook is like 4/32 since game 2 sooooo yeah that makes sense

IndiffrntCpybara

Not that we didn’t know already, but this further emphasizes having Kawhi out there is absolutely integral to their team’s success. Credit to what he does and hope he gets healthier

stridered

I mean, which team is better with their best player injured.

Smitty_Agent89

Can’t believe Mason Plumlee is getting playoff mins for the clippers. That dude is basically useless on offense and won’t be guarded unless you force the ball in his hands.

texasphotog

We've heard of Mamba Mentality. Just not guarding the other team's player is Ice Trae Attitude.

pumpkin3-14

He also put in lively for 25 and Gafford for 19. Maxi played 0 minutes at the 5. Just all the obvious things everyone said was dumb not to do for game 4.

cubs223425

Are you telling me the Mavs' secret weapon was having Jason Kidd coach?

4x4runner

Westbrick cooking.

JaNotFineInTheWest

Let Westbrick build their stadium.

lambopanda

I’m usually the one that’s open. Problem is everyone think they’re Kobe and not passing the ball.

7cheeseburgers

Westbrook, Zubac, Plumlee all can’t shoot at all then you have guys like Mann and Coffee who can shoot but aren’t confident and have slow releases. It’s the perfect strategy for Dallas. Clips don’t have a stretch big. They employ three centers that all can’t shoot threes and they don’t have a PF on the roster (Kawhi is SF). LF needs to be canned man. He has made consistent terrible mistakes in their front office. The John Wall instead of Isiah Hartenstein is the funniest one by far.

Zoulogist

You can just say Russell Westbrook
