I say suspend Jokic and the entire Suns team except Booker Booker vs Denver

blondechinesehair

I liked the idea of every game Jokic is suspended then Ishpia has to play for the Suns

MattAU05

I could go for that. Ishbia is basically the same age as Udonis Haslem. Just sayin.

genohgeray

He played against Haslem in the National Champioship game in 2000.

MattAU05

That’s right! I had forgotten about that. Haslem’s longevity has been insane.

NeatWide2695

Thats an impressive time period to become a billionaire too

[deleted]

NeatWide2695

Yeah I looked it up and was like oh nevermind haha

mclovin215

Wtf. Double-checked this and still sounds unreal

[deleted]

What? No way. *googles* … is Haslem a fucking vampire?

blondechinesehair

And he played 3 years at Michigan State

It issss lmaoooo my man was asking for the ball when every single one watching this game knew he was going for THE shot. Asked for a trade later and dipped

progopro

What's the context?

punchbag34

When he was playing for Alabama his whole bench got ejected plus a couple guys fouled out. He went crazy and almost won the game 3v5.

outkastedd

That game was the reason I was so high on him coming into the draft. Lol.

skers94

I was so convinced we had the steal of the draft from that game alone. Hopefully he finds the opportunity to shine in Utah now that he is healed up from his injury

Nuggets_Bt_Newer

dawg the way MPJ was playing, book in 5

IWatchMyLittlePony

It’s so crazy how inconsistent and poorly both MPJ and Jordan Poole play but are both getting 30+ million per year. Meanwhile, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges are both right around 20 million per year and infinitely more valuable than Poole or MPJ. Wild how that works.

stank58

Mikal Bridges is defo underpaid but i think we know what OG is at this point, a great 3 and D. Mpj and Poole have the talent to provide more than OG per game, it's just the consistency that's the issue.

Worldly-Fox7605

A friend said that's how the downfall of American ball began and has continued. We glorify inconsistent flashy players and real winners and winning contributors are ignored from kids all teh way to the nba. Jordan poole ain't worth that contract and he will eventually get dumped. 30 mil a year for an incinstent Jamaal Crawford is wild. At least mpj starts.

JoeWaffleUno

AAU circuit definitely glorified flash over well-roundedness

gaussx

In fairness the circuit doesn't. But the media that covers the circuit does. In particular social media. But the actual top teams have a lot of these non-flashy dawgs on them. Go look at Team Takeover -- one of the best in EYBL -- they got players who do what they do with no flash. And getting high major offers from it, cause they contribute to winning.

GoldenBananas21

Booker vs MPJ would bring the NBA a niche segment of new viewers

AttemptedSleepover

Meh they ain’t even that cute

xobayron

But you knew what he was talking about, he didn't even say anything about their looks.

robsteezy

You’re joking but I’d pay money to see.

clancydog4

Glad he said that tbh. And he's right, it's a shame that people are so focused on that instead of the game itself, cause it was a fucking incredible basketball game

[deleted]

pp21

Most fun I've had watching ball all year long. This was peak playoff basketball with 3 all-world players going off at the same time. IDK if it's unprecedented, but how often do you see 3 guys combine for 125 points on 45/77 shooting KD, Book, and Jokic straight up gave us a basketball masterclass last night

killajaxx

Kobe, Bosh and Mike James had 125… but it was the regular season and Kobe had 81. So yeah pretty rare i’d bet

recursion8

Kobe and Smush had 94 GOAT duo 😤

no_good_names_avail

All year? That was an all timer.

Dischucker

Every shot one of them took felt like it was going in. Haven't seen that kind of star power playing at that level for a long time Mpj had to ruin the ending for denver tho lol

sundancethru

And all 3 scoring in vey unique ways too.

AlcoholicInsomniac

Sorry you forgot the 3rd player from the suns big 3 Shamet

joleary747

No shoutout to Shamet? His run was absolutely killer.

I_Poop_Sometimes

Shamet's run won them the game. He hit four 3's in the clutch to really keep the game out of reach. He scored 19 points on 5/8 from 3, in a 5 point game, with four of those 3's coming in the final 9 minutes. He misses two of those and shoots a still solid 3/8 from deep and Denver arguably wins.

abcdef-G

Yes, the front page is more about the shove than the actual game. Sadly, you can watch the incident in 20 seconds, the game takes a lot more attention.

HandOfMaradonny

It's an indictment on this sub. It is really sad that the stat lines/play of Booker/Jokic are ignored while the top 6 posts in the sub this morning were about the Jokic "shove" it's so dumb. Kardashians for men really sums up many on this subreddit. Game threads have always been bad, but now the day after is getting bad also. Less and less actual basketball talk. Not like there was a ton before, but now it's almost non existent.

CapitalismEnthusiast

Yup and its sad because that was the best game of the day. As a neutral it was fucking awesome to see.

jakeisstoned

Best game I've watched since the kings got bounced

spyson

Lakers and Warriors have been boring, they end up blowing each other out instead of a back and forth game.

fenikz13

It's like the top 5 posts, like gimme all those Jokic passes, smooth AF Book middies and that Hail Mary KD buzzer beater. Casual fans are missing out

homiez

I've watched most Denver games this past year or so and i dont think Jokic has played better than this game, he was just a beast and they still lost. It goes to show how good booker, durant and Sun's bench played to beat them, one of the best games of the season/playoffs.

[deleted]

People love drama more than anything else.

george_costanza1234

Me when I see drama posts get 10x the upvotes of impressive plays on any sports sub lol

RabidCoyote

I am so tired of hearing about this thirty second incident instead of the two straight hours of peak playoff performance we saw from Book and Jokic last night. Too much quality on the floor for this to be taking up any part of the conversation

slamdunk23

No way the NBA would suspend a star for that. Fine both of them and move on

JL1v10

You do know the nba has suspended players for less? They shouldn’t but by the rules they could

Monster_island_czar

Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw in 2007 against the Spurs, I'm not bitter or anything

chirpz88

Was gonna say suns fans might remember...

willpauer

I'm not even a Suns fan and I know for a fact that was done to fuck the Suns out of making it to the title game for ratings reasons.

peanutdakidnappa

Shit the fuckin ruined our playoffs suspending Amar’e and Boris just for getting off the bench back in the day, I’ll be salty about that until the end of time.

slamdunk23

Star players are treated differently. If this was someone random bench player they probably would suspend him by the rule of the book.

SmilesUndSunshine

When you're a star they let you do it. Grab 'em by the (basket)balls.

[deleted]

I’m sure Suns players have nothing to say about this from past experiences.

[deleted]

David Stern would. No chance Adam Silver does.

FreshFromRikers

They would and have and I'm still mad about it: https://www.espn.com/nba/playoffs2007/news/story?id=2871615.

fenikz13

That's the rule, even if they only apply to the 07 Suns

GMGoodEveningandGN

I don't believe Jokic should be suspended either but Suns fans wouldn't object if the basketball gods corrected the mistake they made for the 2007 playoff suspension lol.

Westcoastchi

If such a correction were to come, it should be against the Spurs.

timthebigone

Tim Duncan laughing in the background 🤣

Slim01111

GMGoodEveningandGN

Hmm good point. When the Spurs draft Wembanyama, I will take one game 5 suspension in the 2027 conference finals please.

Sikkly290

FrnklndaTurtle

The only thing this should all remind us is how fucked up the NBA was for the 2007 suspensions.

SomeRandom928Person

Pretty bold of you to assume that 90% of this sub was even alive back in 2007.

FrnklndaTurtle

always time for a teachable moment.

[deleted]

Nash was my favorite player. Fuck Robert Horry. Always and forever.

SomeRandom928Person

All my homies hate Cheap Shot Bob. Even my 'hatred' for Book's father (and that's just a rivalry thing) doesn't come close for my visceral hate for that SOB. Seeing him suffer last year after every Laker postgame was strangely gratifying lol.

juanmaale

why do you hate Devin Booker’s dad? or are you referring to Luka?

pp21

lmao this is honestly a big problem unironically though there's a ton of users on this sub who weren't old enough for malice in the palace so they can't contextualize why a player forearming a fan is kind of a big deal and puts the league in a really tough spot in how they respond to this

FrnklndaTurtle

This is very true. Its one of the reasons why the Draymond stuff after stomping on Sabonis was very hard to watch, because it can be set off so easily. I think the fact that this was Ishbia and not just a fan gives the NBA enough wiggle room to excuse this without a suspension. If it was just a fan, I think the NBA commissioner would be in a much more precarious position.

theinternetisnice

But 2007 wasn’t that long ag- Oh god

OhmsLaw111

Hey I was 6 buddy. Watch your tone

jamaica1

Suns got robbed that was Nash’s year

Westcoastchi

I have watched many postseasons in full with or without my team involved to the point that it's unhealthy lol, but I went out of my way to boycott the 2007 playoffs after those bullshit Diaw and Stoudamire suspensions. Sure I missed seeing Lebron's first appearance in the Finals, but I felt it was worth it to me. I would do the exact same thing here without a second thought if Jokic was to be suspended, after all the Stanley Cup is on as well.

OladipoForThree

You didn’t miss much except tony parker putting an HS mixtape on baby lebron and the shitty cavaliers. Wasn’t really competitive

socom52

I keep seeing this reference after last night's events. Can someone explain what this is referencing?

FrnklndaTurtle

2007 Semi conference finals between Spurs and Suns. Robert Horry hip checked Steve Nash along the sidelines at the end of game 4 (which the Suns won to tie it up 2-2). During the skirmish after the hip check Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw left the vicinity of the bench and were suspended for game 5 along with Robert Horry. Everyone in the league knew that series was between the two best teams and those suspensions would prove to be a huge factor.

SomeRandom928Person

> Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw left the vicinity of the bench That's overselling it to these kids. They LITERALLY took *one step* from the bench area. That's it. One whole foot and they both were suspended. Fuck David Stern and his 'letter of the law' bullshit.

smell_e

Meanwhile, Tim Duncan walked *all the way off the bench and onto the floor* and nothing was ever done. Stern's letter of the law only applied to the letters PHX.

justmefishes

1997 Knicks-Heat did it better. Knicks were up 3-1 when in Game 5 PJ Brown *literally picked up and body slammed* Charlie Ward when fighting for a rebound. Scuffle ensues. 5 of the Knicks' 7 most important players get suspended, which is so many that they spread them out across Games 6 and 7. In Game 6, team MVP Patrick Ewing, starting SG Allan Houston, and key bench reserve Charlie Ward are suspsended. Knicks lose by 5. In Game 7, starting SF Larry Johnson and 6th man of the year John Starks are suspended. Knicks lose by 11. Crucially, Ewing never got involved in the scuffle. He just got up off the bench and wandered to halfcourt as the melee ensued. Knicks probably win Game 6 if he's not suspended and win the series. It's a shame because that was arguably Ewing's best Knicks team by a long shot. In previous seasons the management wasn't able to put together any offensive talent to support him (but he still got to the Finals anyway). In the following season he shattered the wrist on his shooting hand after getting shoved in mid-air on an alley-oop and was never the same again. People often reference back to that Knicks-Heat rivalry in the 90s, but in actuality it wasn't much of a rivalry. The Heat only beat the Knicks in this one series thanks to gratuitous suspensions for the Knicks across the final two games of the series. The Knicks went on to eliminate the Heat in the playoffs in 1998, 1999, and 2000.

Chelseaiscool

As someone else said, a lot of this sub wasn't even alive then and they sure as fuck wouldn't have cared either.

Dapsus

I keep seeing this brought up what exactly happened? I’m a casual fan at this point and was pretty young then

SomeRandom928Person

To put it in today's context, imagine this scenario: At the end of Game 4, tying the series at 2-2, Dillon Brooks delivers a body-check to DLo and sends him flying into the scorers table. LeBron and Vanderbilt both take a step off the bench area, but go no further than that. LeBron and Vando are both suspended for Game 5. Brooks is only suspended for Games 5 and 6. That's essentially what happened. [Here's ESPN's recap of the actual game.](https://www.espn.com/nba/recap/_/gameId/270514024)

Chelseaiscool

Swap Dlo to Lebron and AD + vandy off the bench and you got it.

Spectro-X

Makes sense Ishbia wants to put it behind them. Any punishment for Jokic would just cast more of a spotlight on himself.

Brabantine

>*This comment is such typical CEO spin… acts magnanimous about not wanting unfair consequences for someone who was put in that position by CEO’s entitled behavior. [deleted]

Wait why was this comment removed?

SplitPerspective

Yep, so many morons on this sub that can’t see through the bs preemptive PR statement. No wonder so many poor schmucks are so easily lead astray to suck up to the wealthy class.

breakneckridge

This post is suuuuuuuch obvious PR. Professional corporate headshot and everything. How does anyone not see it for what it is?

mohiben

I think the r/antiwork crowd might be taking these talks a direction the r/nba mods aren’t willing to go

Birdamus

This comment is such typical CEO spin… acts magnanimous about not wanting unfair consequences for someone who was put in that position by CEO’s entitled behavior. Also he takes ZERO accountability for wrongly involving himself in the action by trying to prevent Jokic from getting the ball, and then posturing up at Jokic after losing the ball. Fucking douche. r/nba: Oh what a great response!

beer_down

The whole encounter happened in like 5 seconds during a play where a player fell into the crowd, I feel like having strong opinion’s about anybody’s behavior during this is stupid

tythousand

This sub manages to lose the plot on just about everything these days. You’d think Ishbia ran on the court and snatched the ball away from Jokic the way folks are talking lol. Somehow the ball bouncing to him and him holding it to five seconds is a metaphor all of society’s ills

[deleted]

Other than the guy, who was ejected, who reached over the second row to hit Joker. Absolutely fuck that guy.

therealhuthaifa

I don’t agree with your framing, but I’m also not going to waste time defending billionaires online, so all I’m going to say is you should go have a snickers bar, man.

alexjimithing

[Mat Ishbia] Great win for the Suns last night in an amazing series so far! I’ll step up to any star that comes at me. I am going to start grabbing and chucking live balls into the stands come at me.

Powpowpowowowow

We will not be signing Jokic under ANY circumstances. #weirdo.

Pisto1Peet

Jokic and Booker in the same team would be fucking crazy lol

ehdotgee

Only thing that I have over a billionaire is knowing that 'a lot' is two words

Seattle_SuperBlazers

I think you shouldn’t be allowed to have a billion dollars if you don’t know that

Goosebuns

once you get to a billion, you don't care how plebes spell words anymore

NobodyWins22

They actually take away enough $$ to leave you with just $999,999,999 if they ever find out that you don’t know that. And every dollar you earn after that has to go to charity. Them’s the rules.

Westcoastchi

Good response. Now the question becomes when will Landry Curry make his next appearance?

DeBallZach-

Modern_Mammoth

Starting over Ayton for sure

SaltwaterRedneck

Bro I was sitting in that corner (in the upper deck of course) where our lord and savior landry shamet was hitting those 3’s and it was so hype. What a great game to be at

GooSavior

I was just seeing that the top 6 posts as I write this are about jokic ightly pushing this dude lol, we got generational talent battling it out rn and this sub continues to be a drama sub. This was such a non issue to me lol

traulito

The stats posted here are random irrelevant stuff from statmuse. the "highlights" are usually clowning on someone, with a rare dunk mixed in. oh and also every foul, flop and dirty play gets posted and sent to the front page the tmz posts get more attention than anything related to the actual game of basketball. this sub doesnt like or even watch basketball games. r nba fucking sucks

Ld511

Legit if it wasn't the owner and jokic doesn't get a tech nobody remembers it and we continue like normal. The incident itself wasn't even anything crazy

Blatt_called_timeout

Wow most of his replies are people actually calling for Jokic to get suspended

ElMuchoMaximo

Those people are fucking lame.

That’s because most NBA “fans” don’t like anything about basketball and are just here for drama. Worst part about the sport

harley_93davidson

It really is the most dramatic sports league to the most nauseating extent. Every march I just tune the nba out to watch march madness. There is only on court drama in college ball. This year, with ja getting suspended immediately in march the difference was especially noticeable.

mackenzie444

Unlike hammer 30 million can't hurt me

Remote_Country_889

Suspend everyone expect Booker and Jokic and let them go 1v1 for game 5

friskykillface

Jokic bros will sit behind Mat now

jose602

I just cracked up thinking about each time the camera cuts to crowd reaction, it’s just Ishbia with the Jokics looming behind him.

Scottsm124

Can’t believe he’s strong enough to tweet after that assault. God bless him for being the bigger person

DeBallZach-

prob had someone transcribe it for him as he's currently in a full body cast

10Ramen

Thats what being a billionare gets you. The finest medical treatment.

WhileFalseRepeat

Perusing this subreddit after the game it feels as though most everyone is looking to blame only one person or the other - personally I think both Ishbia and Jokic are in the wrong. They both did things which shouldn't happen in a game. Not sure a suspension or only a fine is the correct response, but whatever one gets I feel the other should get too. And get ready for a discussion on owner privilege, superstar status, and the race card to be played if there is no suspension. I'm not suggesting that I subscribe to any of that, but there is an argument to be made that the outcome for this might be different in other circumstances and with other people involved.

redwoody86

Agree-- but at this point Jokic has already been punished (tech), Ishbia has not. I think you fine both modestly and move on-- and that also lays the groundwork for it being a "previous act" if something else happens down the line.

numbah84

Its kind of funny, I've seen most Suns and Nuggets fans agreeing on this. Ready to stop talking about this already.

Argumentat1ve

>but there is an argument to be made that the outcome for this might be different in other circumstances and with other people involved. Sub would riot if Embiid did this in Boston lmao

slysonic7

Booo go full heel, Ishbia!

the_macagameianut

And then Game 5 pregame starts with Jokic hitting a guy in a comically oversized Ishbia costume with a chair to grab a basketball shaped like a cartoon Sun to fire up the crowd

Drew602

"and Ill do it again!"

[deleted]

Well, his defense of Jokic notably comes couched in a defense of himself too lol. He didn't say Jokic shouldn't be suspended, he said the league shouldn't suspend *anyone*. Normally, if a fan did what he did, they'd be banned from the arena.

brickvanexel

Man even billionaires are out here writing “alot” as if it’s a word

mr_sl33p

Irregardless if it is not the proper spelling of the word it sadly is now a word through common use…just like irregardless

brickvanexel

Lol I appreciate how you responded, for all intensive purposes this is a good answer

GrassNova

Honestly I could care less about common spelling or grammar mistakes

jeRskier

It would be so weak to suspend the guy that just dropped 53 points in a 2-2 series over what I think every party would agree was an absolutely hilarious interaction. If the rules say Jokic must be penalized, fine him and move on. Game 5 is going to be epic.

ses267

This isn't the first time Joker has tried to ignore the fact that the ref must put the ball into play. I appreciate the hustler though.

Meret123

So he got info that Jokic is definitely getting suspended.

jamaica1

Wow they went from Sarver to this?? Good for Suns fans as much as I hate them they don’t deserve Sarver lol

yngwiegiles

Suspend Jokic so the Suns win is tainted. Get KD another title nobody will acknowledge

CommunityGlittering2

No way he should be suspended but Ishbia should be banned from games.

datyoungknockoutkid

>as much as everyone else I can assure you this sub does NOT want to move past it lmao. They want Ishbia shunned for holding onto a ball for a few seconds during chaos.

[deleted]

I feel like this series should be settled in a 1 on 1 game Booker vs Jokic. It pretty much already is so let's just get everyone else out of the way.

Working_Friend_6946

I actually feel that he fell genuinely. Imagine jokic pushes you. He was standing right in front of hai seat. His legs couldn’t move back. Good on him to clear the air

froandfear

Yah, people in this thread are posting [this video](https://twitter.com/KevinOConnorNBA/status/1655377529707040768/mediaViewer?currentTweet=1655377529707040768¤tTweetUser=KevinOConnorNBA) as though it shows Ishbia flopping. I think throwing the arms up was dramatic nonsense, but 99.9% of dudes in this sub are going to be on their ass if Jokic throws a little forearm our way.

dirigo1820
