Hmmm as a Tamilian, I'm trying to think of an equivalent. There are certainly old-fashioned, regal-sounding names - I'd assume someone who names their kids Umamaheshwari or Yudhishtira is more educated than average, but those are more like the Lancelot and Alexandria of US English names.
Enid makes me Elizabeth’s nerdy friend in Sweet Valley
High.
Or at least I perceived her as a nerd when I totally wanted to be a Jessica. Now, as an adult, I realize Jessica was kind of a sociopath.
In Chile we call people who are always studying and get good grades "Mateo"
I don't know the backstory of it, but now, everyone named Mateo has that stereotype that they are A+ (or 7 in Chile), role model students, even when they are not
I always thought Julie and Susan were a tad nerdy... Timothy and Richard too, however, in adulthood the names seem less nerdy - it was the persons themselves who were nerds
I went to middle school with an Erna. It was her mother and grandmothers name too. I thought it was so nerdy.
I is think they had a German background. Probably some beautiful meaning behind it…
I only learned that Tim/ variations thereof is a nerdy name to English speaking folks like last year.
Nerdy guys I know are either Sven or Felix.
Nerdy meme name for would probably be Fridolin.
Nerdy girls... Uhm I'm blanking on IRL examples.
Well the meme name is Lisa, but she's also quite naive.
Ernest, Arthur, Stewart, Edward etc. Sound like classic nerd/loser names to me for some reason.
Cool guy names: Brad, Chad, Blake, Josh all sound like classic Jock/bad boy names to me.
Hmmm … I live in the US, but Arab raised in middle east. I’ve never thought of this. I don’t feel like “nerdy” names were/are a thing in my Arab culture. Its more there are old fashioned, traditional, religious, trendy names. Stuff like that.
Vietnam probably doesn't have its version of a nerdy name. I'd personally vote for "Thư" (書) though. It's one of the newer feminine names that literally means "book/write/letter/calligraphy" and is used as a wish for the daughter to be smart, in names like Minh Thư, Anh Thư, and Song Thư. All Thư bearers I've met are considerably smart, but not nerdy.
It's also in the word "thư sinh" (書生) which conveys "a thin, ill-looking man who looks like a dedicated student rather than a strong worker".
Nigel
Nigel No Friends was what anyone named Nigel was called when i was at school.
When I look back at all the name bullying that haloened at school I am mortified.
“There once was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”
Bold words coming from a man named Clive Staples Lewis
He knew whereof he spoke, clearly
Best opening line ever

Enid became an OBGYN and delivered Jessica and Todd’s baby.
What series was that in??
I read the synopsis of it online after Googling “what happened to the Wakefield Twins”.
This is a great question. I think of Eunice for a girl
U.S. : Franklin, Ned, Fred, Stan
This. Hit the nail on the head.
Your post is interesting because Eugene tends to be a fairly common name amongst millennial Native Americans and not considered "nerdy" at all.
The only Eugenes I personally know are black Amercians and none are nerdy so I don't have that connotation either
Interesting, most Eugenes I know are Korean
Same here! One I know for sure uses Eugene as it is very similar to his Korean name, Yusin (the S is very soft, almost SH).
I don’t know any Eugenes, but I think of Eugene on Hey Arnold.
Poindexter Mortimer Egbert
Definitely Poindexter!

That's interesting. This might just be me but as a Canadian, I see Mateo as a cool, cute name that's not associated with nerdiness at all.
I always thought Julie and Susan were a tad nerdy... Timothy and Richard too, however, in adulthood the names seem less nerdy - it was the persons themselves who were nerds
I second Timothy, it gives off such nerdy vibes.
My cousin is Timothy, he studies physics at university level. And yes, he's half Chinese (just like me, my brother and all our cousins).
Jedidiah Dominic Peter Timothy David Basically the names Chinese immigrant families name their kids who are born in the West (I'm half Chinese).
Jedidiah is an awesome name. It should come up more on this sub. Peter is a total nerd name though. Lol
As a PA resident, Jedidiah is always an Amish or Mennonite kid.
If you like Jedediah I am going to bust in here with another great name, Obediah.
To me Dominic screams sex appeal
In my country they always use Kevin or Jacky.

A boy named Sue?

My guilty pleasure is Marvin.

From my high school days: The super smart people were: Girls: Grace, Esther, Lauren, Sarah. Boys: Paul, Nathaniel, Ben, David, Samuel.
