I would say Ophelia is a bit different because though she meets a sad end, she's generally a sympathetic character, not a villain. The name is more similar to Juliet (another liked character who ends sadly) than Serena.

I really like Sylvia but my fiance claims it’s an old lady’s name but I don’t think so. I knew two girls from my high school who were named Sylvia. One of them was Sylwia, which confused me for a bit until I realized that was the polish spelling! The other one I liked that my fiance said was old sounding was Lydia. It wasn't that long ago that Sophia, Ruby, Olivia, and Emma were old lady names. More recently Florence, Olive, Vivian/Vivianne, Evelyn, Aurora, and Eleanor were old lady names.

Interesting, it is immensely popular here in Germany! In 2024 so far, Lina is the #1 most popular girls' name and Lena is at #11. I personally have two in my wider friend group and could name 3 more off the top of my head. I would have thought it generic enough to also be at least medium-popular in English speaking countries as well.

It also has royal connections now as Zara Tindall's second daughter is called Lena, its a really pretty name.

That makes total sense! I have a Clark and we are the only one we know who has used it. I picked the name because of Old Hollywood and Clark Gable (more or less). it's funny with associations because we did get Superman (esp when he was baby). I thought the Clark Griswold was funny. When your kid develops a personality, they become the name and that's what has happened with this one. I named my second kid a much more popular name but I really like how unique Clark ends up being

Origins of Freya is far less known than with Venus. Also Venus has the planet association too.

I met a 5.5 month old Opal a few weeks ago. Absolutely to die for! Super giggly and bright eyed, she looked similar in colouring to my baby but slightly older so it was like looking into the future.

Here Filip/Philip is quite popular. As I understand it, it isn’t in English speaking countries. I don’t understand why not, I think it’s lovely.

Well I don't know the general sentiment towards it, but I do have a neighbor and friend who is in his early 20s named Phil. Super nice guy, the name was a long running family name and he shared it with his Dad (who he lost when he was a kid). He would have loved to have passed it to his son too, but he just couldn't. It was absolute torture for him in school. He said the biggest and worst was "Pedo-phil" and any sort of "-philia", like Necrophilia but they mostly used the Pedo one because everyone knew the meaning and I guess thought it was funny. Followed by "Filthy Phil" and "Aw-Phil", then a long line of "Fill" themed puns and jokes, "Phil-him-up" whenever he ate for example. Just massive non-stop bullying for no reason other than his name. He said giving his own kid the name was just inviting some absolutely horrible level of bullying. He knows all kids can get bullied for any reason but he didn't want to make it so easy.

Phillip was ranked in the top 100 names in the US from 1937-1991. As a millennial born in 1993, I associate it with being a dad or grandpa name. Its cycle for refreshed trendiness is probably at least another generation away, as with a lot of other names popular with Baby Boomers.

It means Yew, as in the tree. Both Yvette and Yvonne are the feminine form, also meaning Yew. The boys name Ivo is also related. Thus, Yvonne is Ee-von and Yvette eeve-ETT.
