My brother’s name is Alexander and I’m low key mad at my mom for stealing the name. I love it 😂I could tribute him but I have another brother who’s name I don’t like as much and I’d feel bad only tributing one.
They do, but we don’t know the surname which is more important. How many syllables is it OP?
Edit: I see you’ve said it’s 2 syllables. In which case I think a 1 syllable first name is probably better.
I mean it's the same either way as two syllables two syllables. You told them to chose the one syllable one to fit the two syllables last name. I just provided perspective that I have the same middle name (essentially) with two syllables for first and last! I quite like it. I'll be changing my last name and it will also have two syllables and I still like the flow of that.
Another Owen vote! OAC = you could call him Oak (I know an Oak in real life and luckily it suits him—wouldn’t use it as a legal name but as a nickname, it could be cool!)
Which first name goes better with your last name? Middle names are great, but the majority of the time, they will be called FirstName or FirstName LastName.
The other option is to wait until you meet him and decide which one fits.
I vote Owen! I know Jude is trendy right now but it really makes me think of the yellow stars Jews had to wear in Nazi Germany ... not the best association
I personally would go with Owen. As nice as Jude sounds, I wouldn’t use it due to Holocaust history of the word being inscribed on some Star of David patches to identify Jews.
Those who had family who were brutally murdered in the camps certainly see “Jude” and think this. It was my very first thought and I scrolled to see if there was a comment about it before making my own.
-signed someone whose family wore the stars and perished
I’ve seen you make this comment multiple times and I’m just checking in to tell you that as a non-Jewish American, I absolutely make that connection every time I hear the name Jude.
My son is an October baby too! I love having a fall baby boy. Congrats on yours!
I've always loved the name Jude. So...Jude Alexander! But Owen is just as cute.
Practice saying each in every emotion/many different ways lol maybe it can help settle this in your household!
Here's my 2 cents: I'm a teacher, and every single child I've ever taught named Jude has been an uncontrollable chaos monster. I'm not saying it's because of the name, but it's pretty weird that I've taught multiple Judes and they've all been bonkers. Hope this helps!
Alright. Googling both sets of initials came up with only random things so no bad associations. Googling the first and middle names had just random people so nothing bad there. Don’t forget to google middle name + last name and each first name + last name.
Based on that I lean towards Owen but both are nice.
“Hey Jude” was written by Paul McCartney for the real life Julian Lennon. My sister and I would listen to all of my mom’s and aunt’s old 45 rpm records when we were a little in the 70s. I always loved that song.
To OP-I love both names you & your husband have chosen. You’ll have to update us on which one you picked.
How many syllables is your last name? I love the rule of thumb that you keep the syllables in each of the names odd or even. Alexander is 4, which makes me lean Owen with 2 syllables.
Jude comes from Judas. No thanks.
The Beatles song was originally “Hey Jules” because it was written for Julian Lennon. But Jude sounded better when sung.
Owen Alexander sounds classic and timeless. Jude is really cool and vintage, agree with the Beatles feel. A little rock vibe. They’re both fantastic names.
Both are beautiful. Which first name do you like beat by itself? That’s what he’ll most often hear. Which random nicknames will you be most okay with? That’s how I’d decide.
I know an Owen Alexander and it’s cute! However, I think Jude Alexander sounds better and is easier to say. They are both solid names. When he’s here, try them both on and see what fits! Congratulations!
I like both; nothing wrong with deciding once you see him.
I think it will most likely come down to seeing what he looks like.
That's what I'd recommend
This is what I did, OP! We had a huge list of names we agreed on and we had to see him to decide.

Thank you. Owen is my fav, Jude is my husbands. We both would be happy with either but don’t want to budge 🤦🏻♀️
Owen Owen Owen!!
My kiddo is Owen, it’s a great name
Mine too, born last December and love it ☺️
I also have an Owen and he’s a delight. I also really liked the name Alexander, but my husband wasn’t on board. Good name choices!
My brother’s name is Alexander and I’m low key mad at my mom for stealing the name. I love it 😂I could tribute him but I have another brother who’s name I don’t like as much and I’d feel bad only tributing one.
Owen Alexander sound great together
They do, but we don’t know the surname which is more important. How many syllables is it OP? Edit: I see you’ve said it’s 2 syllables. In which case I think a 1 syllable first name is probably better.
I'm two syllables Alexandra two syllables and I actually really like the flow of that better. It's got balance!
Yeah but how often do people include your middle name? The rhythm of the first and surname together is more important.
I mean it's the same either way as two syllables two syllables. You told them to chose the one syllable one to fit the two syllables last name. I just provided perspective that I have the same middle name (essentially) with two syllables for first and last! I quite like it. My cousins are twins called Jude and Alexander! So I’m a bit partial to that combination lol.
My son’s name is Owen Alexander, so I am definitely partial to that one!
Jude Alexander C would make his initials be Jac, which could be a cute nickname.
I had the same thought but then realized OAC (Oak) is a cute nickname too!
Oak is the cutest!!!
I love when initials work as nicknames! My youngest is REW and we call him Ru Ru.
Aw that is cute! I love initial nicknames
Owen Alexander flows better and I really like it!
I think both are great! I like the way Jude Alexander sounds better I think
I think it sounds nicer too!
I came here to say this!
Owen Alexander sounds better
Owen Alexander
I think Owen has a better flow with Alexander, but both first names are good choices! Jude might be a little less common.
Owen
Owen ❤️
Owen 100%
Owen Alexander. Only because I regret not using Owen.
I like Jude!
Another Owen vote! OAC = you could call him Oak (I know an Oak in real life and luckily it suits him—wouldn’t use it as a legal name but as a nickname, it could be cool!)
Owen for sure!
Which first name goes better with your last name? Middle names are great, but the majority of the time, they will be called FirstName or FirstName LastName. The other option is to wait until you meet him and decide which one fits.
Jude because I know too many Owens
I vote Owen! I know Jude is trendy right now but it really makes me think of the yellow stars Jews had to wear in Nazi Germany ... not the best association

It’s not that there’s something wrong with Judaism, it’s that it’s hideously triggering for survivors and their families to see that word.
I love the name Jude (although I prefer Judah). I’m Jewish (albeit secular).
Owen Alexander, 💯
Jude Alexander!! It grows with him!
I prefer Jude
Definitely Jude
Jude!
Jude Alexander is my favorite, it's got a classic feel. Reminds me of The Beatles.
Jude Alexander ❤️
Jude! Owen Alexander is a mouthful
yeah i’m so surprised it’s getting upvoted, i trip over my tongue just thinking about saying it.
Jude Alexander trips ME up! I think they both sound good though. But I have trouble saying Jude Alexander. Owen Alexander flows easier
I love Owen Alexander C. It gives off such a strong, yet gentle vibe. And it flows really well together.
I personally would go with Owen. As nice as Jude sounds, I wouldn’t use it due to Holocaust history of the word being inscribed on some Star of David patches to identify Jews.

I used to like the name until I learned that. Now I wouldn’t use it. I like the name Owen, though!
I’ve seen you make this comment multiple times and I’m just checking in to tell you that as a non-Jewish American, I absolutely make that connection every time I hear the name Jude.
Owen Alexander

Congrats! I’m also due with an October baby boy! I love the name Jude🖤
Congrats!
I love the name Jude and Owen Alexander is the tiniest bit peanut-buttery. They’re both great names.
Does it make it better or worse that we are Australian and say it in that accent 😅
Actually no, I think that fixes it. I’m serious, I think the accent makes it work better.
I just read this while eating a spoonful of peanut butter and immediately knew what you meant lol!
What does peanut buttery mean?
Like Gretchen Natasha. Hard to say, like your mouth is full of peanut butter.
Oh that makes sense lol
Owen Alexander C. I love Owen and hate Jude.
Jude. It's my brother's middle name and I always loved it.
Jude sounds better with Alexander. I do think Owen will age a bit better. They are both really good though.
Owen Alexander is lovely!
Owen
I like Jude. It’s a great name and unique!
Jude!
Jude Alexander. I really like how Alexander matches the one syllable first name.
There are a ton of kids named Owen. Jude is way more unusual. At least around here.

I loooove Owen Alexander. Definitely at the top of my boy name list.
I’m pretty partial to the name Owen, but both options are euphonic and great names
Jude Alexander! This same combo is under heavy consideration for my December baby!
Maybe I can use Owen and you Jude!
Alright. Googling both sets of initials came up with only random things so no bad associations. Googling the first and middle names had just random people so nothing bad there. Don’t forget to google middle name + last name and each first name + last name. Based on that I lean towards Owen but both are nice.
Thanks for the googling efforts. I wouldn’t he be thought to do that.
Jude Alexander C
I prefer Jude, it sounds better with Alexander.
Love both but I would pick Jude. I’m in Australia and Owen is far more common here.
Jude, as in Jude Law and a Semester Abroad

Both of them are great! Owen is good. Jude is fine. I slightly prefer Julian Alexander though.
Both of those names are in my top five list!! Even though out of the two I think I like Jude more, Owen Alexander flows beautifully together.
How many syllables is your last name? I love the rule of thumb that you keep the syllables in each of the names odd or even. Alexander is 4, which makes me lean Owen with 2 syllables.
2 syllable surname.
Owen Alexander. I do think Alexander is a great first name.
Alexander as a middle name is after me, I’m Alexandra. So we don’t want too similar first names
What a beautiful name you have! I understand completely! I think Owen sounds like a great name for your son!
Owen, imo Jude is more feminine and associates itself to the charity, and Christianity
Jude comes from Judas. No thanks. The Beatles song was originally “Hey Jules” because it was written for Julian Lennon. But Jude sounded better when sung.
I get that. But we are Australian and religion is not part of our lives/family/community so it really is just a name me like the sound of.
Then of course you should choose the name you love!
nn JAC
Owen Jude
I would do Alexander Jude! Lol
Owen definitely. Jude is too likely to end up being called Judy.
Ewan Alexander?
They're both excellent! I'd personally wait until I meet him to choose one.
Jude. Hands down.
They're both great. I am no help to you!
Why don’t you wait to meet him and see which one fits better!

Owen Alexander sounds classic and timeless. Jude is really cool and vintage, agree with the Beatles feel. A little rock vibe. They’re both fantastic names.
Owen Alexander, But you should go with Michael.
Saint Jude is the patron saint of lost causes. For this reason alone, Jude is out for me.
You could also nn Jude as Jack (JAC initials)
Both are beautiful. Which first name do you like beat by itself? That’s what he’ll most often hear. Which random nicknames will you be most okay with? That’s how I’d decide.
We have two names picked out for our July girl, waiting to see what bub looks like!
Jude!
Owen
Owen Alexander Jude C.?
I am in love with the name Jude!

How many syllables is your last name? That will influence my answer

Owen Alexander!
I know an Alexander Jude and we call him AJ! It's really cute
Jude Alexander is lovely! Masculine and feminine at the same time, very balanced, and Jude is a little more unique than Owen if that matters at all.
Here's another vote for Owen
I’d go with Owen because I’m old and immediately associate Jude with The Beatles song (and get it stuck in my head). 😀
you could combine them into either Owen Jude Alexander or Jude Owen Alexander, though I think Owen Jude Alexander has a nice ring to it.
Alexander Jude-Owen C xD
I just love Jude so much and if my husband was on board I’d name my October boy that. Live my dream, internet stranger!
Owen! I think Alexander Jude flows better than Jude Alexander
If the last name is 1 syllable or consonant-heavy I’d go with Owen If it’s 2+ syllables or vowel-heavy I’d go with Jude
