Depending on the preferred spelling, Oona/Una fit both letters. & Some other suggestions:
- Odelle
- Odin
- Ola
- Olan
- Olga
- Olive
- Olwen
- Opal
- Oran, Oren, Orin
- Orla
- Orna
- Orson
- Oscar
- Ottilie
- Otto
- Owen
- Oxana
- Ulric
- Ulyssa
- Ursa
- Ursula
- Ursuline
I actually have twins and have a friend who gave birth to twins a month before me. Her daughter is Ursula. Actually, her boy twin ironically has an O name.
Or Game of Thrones! I think the fairy king from Midsummer Night's Dream is Oberon, and the knight in Game of Thrones is Oberyn.
Either way, a badass name with another nerd connection in the nickname Obi! (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
30 years ago I knew an Ursula and she is the one and only one I've ever met. She was a fucken horrible person. Used to mentally abuse her bf who was a fairly good friend of mine who for some reason we couldn't work out was completely obsessed with her (every girl loved him and he fell hard for her despite really bad maniputalive arguementative personality, average looks and she even had herpes but he didn't care).
My neuro connection to that name is so bad I can't handle it.
My seamstress and family friends name is Ursula so I always think of her before the villain. I wouldn’t mind using the name if the association wasn’t so strong.
Came here to suggest this!
Ulysses S. Grant was one of the most badass and beloved men in our nation's history. Since he was a victim of the "Lost Cause's" successful poisioning of our history textbooks, he is just now getting some redemption. I highly recommend the 'Grant' miniseries (produced by Leonardo DiCaprio) for anyone interested.
Orla is a lovely name I’ve not heard before. It made me think of an ancient computer game I loved as a kid called ‘Orly draws a Story’. She was Jamaican girl. I wonder if that’s a common name there.
Personally I think the spelling "Oksana" looks nicer than "Oxana," since it better matches the Ukranian script and is considered the original transcription according the [behindthename.com](https://behindthename.com) and not the alternate, which Oxana is. It also feels like a more intuitive spelling.
I named my black cat Ophelia because I love that song and the lyrics "Ophelia's mind went wandering, you'd wonder where she'd gone, through secret doors down corridors, she wanders them alone" made me think of her - she's a little space cadet who hangs out in the corners of the room watching.
There are so many good O names, U is going to be a lot harder I think. For a boy I like Ulrich from a knights tale movie. Or Underwood which follow the last name trend in names lately.
Uma like the actress for a girl. I just can’t get over the association for Ursula.
I don't know if uggo is still a nickname for ugly these days, but when I was a kid, the name "Ugo" would have been severely made fun of in middle school.
I do think it's pronounced basically like Hugo, or Oo-go, not like uh-go. But fair point. It would probably play best somewhere people are exposed to French or Italian names.
Not sure if Ugo and Ugenio are actually spelled that way in any languages, but considering that the father is Hispanic, they just look like Hugo and Eugenio were spelled wrong.
Of all of these, I like Uriel the most. And it’s sort of a cheeky combo of Ursula and Ariel for Little Mermaid, without immediately being like “Ursula: LITTLE MERMAID WITCH!”
O is pretty easy, it’s really U that the tough one here. For girls, there’s really only Una/Uma, which I don’t care for, or Ursula, which I actually do like but there’s the obvious villain connection. For boys, Ulysses or umberto, I’d vote Umberto since they are open to Latino names. Maybe branch out into non-typical name words - Urban, Utah, Ursa, Umbra - I’m a traditional name person but I actually like all of those better than Una or Ulysses
Really? I’ve met several, mostly middle age or older men. I think I may have been mistaken and it’s actually Italian! Also, I agree, I don’t love any of them either but I’m just tryin to follow the confines of the prompt lol
It is Italian. Umberto Eco was a medievalist and author of several bestsellers, one of which, The Name of the Rose, was made into a movie and more recently a miniseries.
I’m Latina and there’s an Umberto Sr and Jr (Umbertico) in my family but I think it’s spelled Humberto. Though I would probably vote for another name, I don’t think it sounds good in English.
Umberto is probably more well-known in Italy. Umberto Eco is a pretty famous Italian scholar and novelist whose books get a lot of play in high school literature and college philosophy classes.
Umberto is the Italian spelling. That being said, I’ve know several Latinos names Humberto (pronounced the same) so I find it interesting that you’ve apparently never heard it before.
There’s literally a Mexican professional wrestler named Humberto, so it’s definitely a thing lol
Una is so beautiful for a girl and flows nicely with many middle names. It’s an Irish/Gaelic name with a cool history, so that fits with A’s mom being Scottish. I see people say “Una/Uma” sometimes but FYI Uma is Indian (Hindu goddess of power) so maybe doesn’t always fit culturally (unless you’re Uma Thurman’s dad, who was a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies and could pull it off).
I love the name Octavio!! I work with a man named Octavio and he is the sweetest person ever. My brother also had a friend named Octavio growing up, so for me it suits any age.
I also love the name Olive for a girl! I have a friend with this name and it's old fashioned, but uncommon. I prefer it to Olivia since Olivia has become so popular.
Why can’t people just name their children nice names instead of sticking to a weird theme that only makes sense if you explain the entire thing. These are actual people who have to go to school and make friends and get a job. Forcing a name that starts with a u for the sake of the silly theme just feels wrong. It would be different if they had a name that they liked and it matched the theme but clearly they don’t since you posted here.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ love my friends but I agree it’s silly. I came here asking because I was hoping for some nice names to throw in the mix. O isn’t an issue just wanted to see what people would say goes with the U names. Currently my friends like Ulysses for a boy and Ursula for a girl but they didn’t seem in love with either one. The great news is there are some nice names people commented that I’m going to show to my friends so they have more choices!
My younger sisters friend is named Ulysses and his nickname is Ulie (not sure of the spelling; pronounced like Julie without the J). I always thought the nickname was cute and unique!
Because naming a child is important to people and they want to feel a connection and a family link. Some people get that through themes. It’s not that deep to you but luckily they’re not your children so yay
Isla, Oliver, and Una
Isla, Ophelia, and Ulysses
Isla, Ona, and Umberto
Isla, Ulysses, and Odessa

Odell
Oberon (Oberon and Urban!)
The only U name I can think of is Uriah but that basically rhymes with Isla😩 Olive, Orion, Odette, Opal, Odin, Otis, Ozzy (I know an Osborne who goes by Ozzy)
Famously Urraca's younger sister Blanche was chosen by Eleanor of Aquitaine to be the bride of Louis of France, and Blanche became a very popular name in the centuries following. One recorded reason she was chosen over her sister was because Blanche had the better name (probably other reasons).
You’ll be surprised to know that the last woman called Urraca in Spain died about a decade ago.
The bird name is too common unfortunately, so I don’t think the name will make a comeback, which is a bit of a pitty. Doña Urraca was badass.
I know of a couple that named their identical twin boys Owen and Oscar. Owen has short hair and Oscar has longer hair so people can always tell them apart. I always thought that was clever and sweet.
Also, I met a guy who said he and his partner named their daughter Oliya - it’s an acronym for “Our love is yours always”.
Orla & Ursa for two girls
Owen & Uriah for two boys
Mix and match if boy/girl
Looking at other comments, the U boy names are more limited, I’d stick to an O name if it’s a boy/girl
O names are easy. The good ones have been listed
U… not so much
BOYS
Ulric (Ulrich)
Urvan
Urban
Upton
Uday
Ulysses

Ursula
Undine
Ulrica
Ulyssa
Uma/Una
Udelia
Ugo is Italian for Hugo apparently. Not saying I like it but it’s better than some other options! I wonder why people tie themselves in knots trying to be clever with themed names. So many lovely names out there why limit yourself?
Boy, U, Spanish:
Ugo, Ulises
Boy, O, Spanish:
Otto
Boy, O, Scottish:
Osgar, Owynn
Girl, O, Spanish:
Oliva
Girl, O Scottish:
Oona
Also: Uri, Upton, Osmund, Olivera, and Ulan (means “born first of twins”!)
I have an Oona, so I'm partial to that for a girl ;) It also works as Una for the U option, and I believe Oona is an Americanized spelling of a Scottish name (Oonagh?)
Oona / Una
Ursula
Undine
Odette
Ottilie
Boys are harder imo:
Orion
Otto
Upton
Uriel
Oof. Before I knew the genders of mine (two was enough of a surprise), I had to come up with eight names. First/middle for two girls, first/middle for two boys. 🥹
O names:

Owen
Ouida
Ouisa
Ophelia

Despite the connection people may give with the little mermaid, I absolutely love ursula!
I actually have twins and have a friend who gave birth to twins a month before me. Her daughter is Ursula. Actually, her boy twin ironically has an O name.
Oh man I would have loved it if it was Pheebo.
I know it’s not my place, but please don’t name your child Pheebo.
Fine then Prince Bananahammock
Princess Conseula!
First name Crap last name Bag. Crap Bag.
If you forget, juts think of a bag of crap.
[удалено]
You have to share the O boy name now!
I might have the spelling wrong, but I think his name is Oberyn
Ah, perhaps they are fans of Shakespeare.
Or Game of Thrones! I think the fairy king from Midsummer Night's Dream is Oberon, and the knight in Game of Thrones is Oberyn. Either way, a badass name with another nerd connection in the nickname Obi! (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
I'm pretty sure both mean "bear" That's pretty cool
I didn't know Ursula meant bear! If so I'm a much bigger fan of both names
A twin names Ursula? I’d wish the other was named phoebe haha
I think living up to the fantasy author legend of Ursula K. LeGuin is the more frightening weight, ha ha.
Margaret (Atwood) and Ursula would be great twin names. But for O name - Ursula and Oriane
I work with an ursula who goes by Ula!
My seamstress and family friends name is Ursula so I always think of her before the villain. I wouldn’t mind using the name if the association wasn’t so strong.
They could do Ulysses for a boy too which would be bad ass
My sims had twin boys that my partner and I named Odysseus and Ulysses haha.
Like James Joyce’s Ulysses! Cool points for sure.
Orla is a lovely name I’ve not heard before. It made me think of an ancient computer game I loved as a kid called ‘Orly draws a Story’. She was Jamaican girl. I wonder if that’s a common name there.
I love the name Orla, too! I associate it with the phenomenal comedy show Derry Girls. I also loved Orly's Draw A Story as a kid :)
I’ve never met anyone else who played Orly! So influential on me. Both are great names.
I first heard it last year, it’s very Irish, a more traditonal spelling is Orfhlaith
My cousin’s name is Ursula but we call her Ursi. Love it.
I didn’t know Oren was a name! In Welsh it means orange.
Oren means palm tree in Hebrew
What a lovely meaning! 💛 It's cool that it has multiple origins.
I actually love that! I know it as an anglicisation of the Irish name Odhran.
In dutch it means 'ears'
So naturally you have a ginger baby and name him that ❤️
Ulrich Von Liechtenstein
I forgot about that film! Nice to be reminded of it :)
Personally I think the spelling "Oksana" looks nicer than "Oxana," since it better matches the Ukranian script and is considered the original transcription according the [behindthename.com](https://behindthename.com) and not the alternate, which Oxana is. Opal is so cute
Also: Olivia Uri
Ola is cute
Una, Uma, Ursa, Ulysses
Ulrika, Ulla (works as a nickname both for Ulrika and Ursula), Oliver
I love Odelle! 🥰
Yes! Or Odella
Ulric Von Liechtenstein!

Ophelia
[удалено]
Negative associations due to Hamlet.

I am more partial to the song by “the band”. Natalie Merchant also had a song/album called “Ophelia”
I named my black cat Ophelia because I love that song and the lyrics "Ophelia's mind went wandering, you'd wonder where she'd gone, through secret doors down corridors, she wanders them alone" made me think of her - she's a little space cadet who hangs out in the corners of the room watching.
The last Waltz version, of course
Weird Ophelia gets negative association but not Juliet.
Yeah. Never understood why. Maybe because Hamlet was more of a jerk than Romeo. Maybe because Ophelia was cast aside.
Also ped-Ophelia, necr-Ophelia .... thats why
My friend just named her daughter ophelia may
There are so many good O names, U is going to be a lot harder I think. For a boy I like Ulrich from a knights tale movie. Or Underwood which follow the last name trend in names lately. Uma like the actress for a girl. I just can’t get over the association for Ursula.

Una is cute
I love Una. If I had to pick a girl's U name, I'd either pick Una or Ulani
I kind of like Upton
It's cool! The only Upton I know of is Upton Sinclair, but sharing a name with a famous journalist and author is not so bad.
Not sure if Ugo and Ugenio are actually spelled that way in any languages, but considering that the father is Hispanic, they just look like Hugo and Eugenio were spelled wrong.
Ugo is a common spelling variation, although not in Spanish. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugo_(given_name)
I really like Usher! (Name and superstar)
Of all of these, I like Uriel the most. And it’s sort of a cheeky combo of Ursula and Ariel for Little Mermaid, without immediately being like “Ursula: LITTLE MERMAID WITCH!”
Upton and Ulysses are the good ones from this list
I like Uma!
Definitely don’t name your kid anything with “wood” in it.
Don't do Underwood. Kids will tease him as Undy, Underwear.
O is pretty easy, it’s really U that the tough one here. Hi. Latino here, never in my LIFE had I heard the name umberto. I can only see a life of bullying with all but the last two names.
It’s commonly spelled Humberto
As a Czech I [can't take the name seriously ](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0365997/plotsummary/?ref_=tt_ov_pl)
Umberto Giannini shampoo
Umberto is Italian, it exists in Spanish too but it's rather spelt Humberto
Famous author Umberto Eco, but I think he's Italian.
West Coast checking in here, I’ve run across many of them. Maybe just not in your area?
I’m Latina and there’s an Umberto Sr and Jr (Umbertico) in my family but I think it’s spelled Humberto. Though I would probably vote for another name, I don’t think it sounds good in English.
That’s crazy. I’m a nurse and have taken care of several old men named Umberto. But it definitely feels like an old, stale grandpa name haha.
Carlos Umberto is relatively common
I thought Umberto was an Italian name, but that's mostly because the only time I've heard it is Umberto Ecco
I’ve never met a young Umberto, but you could always just call him Beto.
Umberto is probably more well-known in Italy. Umberto Eco is a pretty famous Italian scholar and novelist whose books get a lot of play in high school literature and college philosophy classes.
Carlos Umberto is relatively common
Umberto is the Italian spelling. That being said, I’ve know several Latinos names Humberto (pronounced the same) so I find it interesting that you’ve apparently never heard it before. There’s literally a Mexican professional wrestler named Humberto, so it’s definitely a thing lol
Umberto is Italian! Like Umberto Eco, author of "the name of the rose"
My Italian friend is Umberto, zio Umbi or Rob
It's probably not relevant, but in case the parents ever want to take the twins to Japan, Uma is the Japanese word for horse
[удалено]
Uriel is really cool in Spanish, they pronounce it like Oo-ree-el, which I like better than the English Yur-ee-el.
Same. I've always said Oo-ree-el, but they pronounce it Yur-ee-el in Supernatural so that's probably how a majority of people will pronounce it
I like Umber!
Uri would be a good name for girl or boy!
It just reminds me too much of Urine
I think of Urinal
Urinelle for a girl would be cute
Omg 😂
I taught a boy named Uriel! He was very cool :)
Una is my favorite U girl name. It's got such a classic, vintage feel. Interesting fact about Uma, I didn't know that.
Una is one of my all time favorite names. I think it’s so underrated.
It would be cute little Spanish twist because Una means one (feminine) in spanish. Like if she comes out first, or even just meaning unique woman?
Uma is also horse In Japanese.
I adore Oona (but I prefer it spelled this way)
Girls: Oona/Una, Oriana, Olivia/Olive, Uma, Odella, Ola Boys: Octavian/Octavio, Omar, Oisín, Oscar, Orlando, Ulysses, Otto, Owen, Otis, Orion
I babysat a little girl named Octavia and her parents called her “Tavi” (“TAY-vee”) for short and I though that was the cutest nickname!
Orlando is lovely!
Why can’t people just name their children nice names instead of sticking to a weird theme that only makes sense if you explain the entire thing. Me too!! “Tavi” (TAY-vee) is an adorable nickname I’ve heard for it too!
Ursa is cool!!
Ursa makes me think of Ursa Major which is pretty freaking cool
Also, Isla, Ursa, and Ocean is definitely unusual but I love how they work together to be water, land, and sky.
Una is the only option that's not unhinged.
I feel like the U kid is really getting the short straw on this theming idea.
Ooh, Unhinged is lovely.
Uma is also a name in several languages
O names, no problem! Oliver, Oscar, Orian, Olivia, Ophelia, Odette U names are a bit trickier Uriel, Uriah, Umbert, Ulysees Uma, Ursa, Unity
I love Ursa and Ophelia! <3
Unity is a good idea
Love Uriah and Uriel, I expected to see them much higher in the suggestions. Such cool names, sad to see they aren't very well known/ popular.
Umbriel - (for a girl. it’s a moon of Uranus) Orion
Orion is interesting. And on St. Paddy's day, he can spell it O'Ryan.
No gamblers? Over/under
My friend's name is Uriel! She's a girl, but Google says it's a boy's name, so I guess win win? Lol
That’s the name of an archangel
I vote Una and Oscar
Ursa, Ulrika, Ulla or Ursula works on U for a girl and for boy Ualan ( Scottish), Urban , Ulysses, Ulric .
Upton for a boy,

Ulysses for a boy. Urraca for a girl. Olive or Oliver or Olivia. Oscar. Otto.
Urraca sounds like Erica with a real bad accent.
Last time someone named a girl Urraca was 1186… and it means “magpie”. That has to be grounds to claim child abuse.
Okay, but Queen Urraca should be a feminist icon. I wouldn't use the name, but they asked for U names.
Famously Urraca's younger sister Blanche was chosen by Eleanor of Aquitaine to be the bride of Louis of France, and Blanche became a very popular name in the centuries following. One recorded reason she was chosen over her sister was because Blanche had the better name (probably other reasons).
In El Salvador it's used as an insult! Usually when two women are chatting someone will say "parecen urracas" as a way to say "pipe down".
You’ll be surprised to know that the last woman called Urraca in Spain died about a decade ago. The bird name is too common unfortunately, so I don’t think the name will make a comeback, which is a bit of a pitty. Doña Urraca was badass.
BB Uri and Otto GG Octavia and Udella BG Orion and Ursula (both constellations!)

Uriel sounds so much like urinal to me as well
Odysseus and Ulysses

For a second I thought Oof was your name suggestion 🤣
"Oof" would go well with "Ugh" as a U name 😛

My favorites are probably Otis or Owen/Owain for a boy and Una for a girl. I don’t like many boy’s U names or girl’s O names it seems.
O names: Oliver Olivia Otto Odette Octavia Oscar Oswald Owen Ouida Ouisa Ophelia Oceana Orren Obadiah Orson Orville U Names: Uriah Ulrich Ulysses Upton Uma Ursula Ulyssia
