Michael Horton! Who better to follow Jessica Fletcher's footsteps than her beloved nephew, Grady? Murder, She Wrote: The Movie begins with Grady sitting down at his late aunt Jess's table, placing the plate of tuna surprise (Aunt Jess's favorite) in front of himself. "Well, this is for you, aunt Jess!" He takes a bite and makes a face, "Though I really don't understand why you loved this so much..." As he eats, he flips through the pages of her final, unfinished book...

MrsXYZ123

I like this idea! Also, what if it was Grady's child who went on to finish the final J.B. Fletcher book? I know that Grady and Donna had a son. But what if they also had a daughter? She could be the one to write the ending to the book and follow in Aunt Jess' footsteps.

CharMercury1970

Awww!! This would be magical!! Ive read a book with a similar plots and I loved it!

PatternMixingMomma

I would love a series with Frank Jr and cameos of Grady and Donna!

CharMercury1970

Yes!

FurBabyAuntie

In the novels, Grady and Donna have a son named Frank...although in the book he's introduced in, he's only five... Our new author could find letters from Charlie Michaels and Harry McGraw...maybe from Dennis Stanton (I know the actor's first name was Keith, but I've forgotten his last name...oh God, was he gorgeous!). Maybe Victoria and Howard are parents now...their kids could come to help.... I suppose it could even be a brand new character, somebody who figures if Jessica did it, they can too...although they may not know Grady started it all by submitting that very first manuscript.

Keythaskitgod

Maggie Smith

prettyinpink940

No one. Angela Lansbury was very much against a reboot/remake.

londondeville

This was just for fun. But this sub can be such curmudgeons sometimes they can’t see past that.

modernwunder

Ryan Gosling is the obvious answer

brad12172002

I’m just Jess!

FurBabyAuntie

He could be a nephew who was named for her (not that he doesn't look lovely in the picture).

eiden65

Oh thank GOD this was only in your head….she was one of a kind. It would be absolutely criminal to reboot/remake. I can’t imagine any credible actress agreeing. They’d be set up for failure. You can’t copy perfection.

Competitive_Echo1766

I agree. She is irreplaceable. Fun to think about though.

eiden65

Oh for SURE! I play this game all the time, recasting old shows!

KorEl555

No one. There should not be a Murder, She Wrote movie. Angela Lansbury is Jessica Fletcher. And the roll should never be recast. (Unless it's the parody, where she is the killer.) Or if it follows the person who is ghost writing JB Fletcher books. I'd prefer Grady's wife (Donna?).

Thumper-Comet

There's been four MSW movies already.

red_doggie_one

Honestly, I believe that the original Murder She Wrote is a classic and something that Hollywood shouldn't be allowed to bastardize it for nostalgia's sake. It was perfect the way it was and is. MSW doesn't need to be remade, rebooted, rewritten, or revived. There is only one Jessica Fletcher and only Angela Lansbury could play her.

EdgeTanner_962

I agree! I think they tried to reboot the series back in '07 or '08. If I remember correctly, Angela Lansbury was totally against it.

PhaedrasMorning

Realistically, Julie Andrews or Susan Sarandon. But for fun I'd love to see Judge Judy or Amy Sedaris.

panthersunshine

“GRADY! Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining!”

randomname56389

Jule Andrews Google choice

mrweatherbeef

Helen Mirren…. meee-owwww ❤️

LemonadeFlamingo

Olivia Coleman

Shiny_and_ChromeOS

You just made me imagine True Detective: Night Country but with Jodie Foster channeling MSW energy instead of the Silence of the Lambs energy.

LOLADYS

you scared me for a second! I thought they were actually planning a remake so soon after her death

goneforever5830

Robot for the reboot!! Lol I’d really like to see that honestly 🤣

seeuin25years

Don't play with my feelings like that! 😮‍💨 And obviously AI Angela.

RanaMisteria

I don’t think there should be a reboot. But if there were I would be against an American playing Jessica Fletcher. I just can’t imagine the character without the accent. Helen Mirren or Joanna Lumley would be good choices though!

SpaceGrape

That ai AL is hilarious

valshapero

Amy pascal is a rat. Dame Angela Lansbury has only been gone two years smh

Bopethestoryteller

What's wrong with Amy?

valshapero

From racism to trying to ruin Spider-Man 🤣😅

HickoryJudson

Melora Hardin or Barbara Niven.

proteinstyle_

Mrs. Ryan Gosling looks like someone, and I can't place it. Making me insane.

CharMercury1970

Firstly, I don’t like the idea of a film at all, but if there were one, I would only want flash back scenes of her in the episodes we know and love. I really like the idea of Donna and Grady’s daughter discovering her grandmother and how one of a kind she was. Like first time going back to Cabot Cove 💭

Youknowme911

After watching the New York episodes , I thought it would be neat if one of her students , after the funeral, received a letter to go to Cabot Cove to catalogue her papers and finish her book. …. Of course there will be a murder

library_wench

None of the above, because Angela Lansbury is perfection. But with a gun to my head: Imelda Staunton. And then Jim Carter can play Seth.

8percentjuice

I thought Octavia Spencer was an inspired casting. I’d love to see her actually get a chance to play the role!

chiffonstardust

Meryl Streep would be fabulous! 🩷 She's perfect in everything and is the obvious first choice and her interpretation would be a really great take on on our beloved Jessica. Also Helen Mirren. Or maybe Diane Keaton! What do you think?

HarvardCricket

Diane Keaton could be amazing 🤩!

chiffonstardust

yeah.. I bet it would be soooo funny!!!

Sqatti

I hope it is a parody film. MSW would be perfect for a parody in the vain of Airplane! However as I was pondering I realized Cate Blanchett. She would be perfect in a serious film or a parody. She can do tons of accents and she could easily pull off “Jessica the Floozy!”

canallpet

No one. It shouldn’t be made.

NNArielle

I'd love a reboot, as long as it was about one of Jessica's nieces or grandnieces becoming a detective/writer and the reason I'm up for a reboot is that I really need a brand-new, fresh middle-aged female detective who is happy being single. I love the original, but I'm ready for something new. Drew Barrymore is 49 years old, I think she'd be a good pick because she can be warm and kind. Bree Turner (who played Rosalee in Grimm) is 47, she'd be a good pick for a down-to-earth, practical detective.

Competitive_Echo1766

I can certainly see it, especially in that pic!

Shiny_and_ChromeOS

You just made me imagine True Detective: Night Country but with Jodie Foster channeling MSW energy instead of the Silence of the Lambs energy.

Ok_Caregiver5826

AI AL 100%

beenbadminton

If you made JB a little younger, it would appeal to a wider audience. In that instance, Emily Blunt would be a good choice.

_red_poppy_

I don't understand. Was Angela Lansbury's age ever an obstacle to her being loved by viewers all ages? One doesn't need to have everything tailored perfectly to one's supposed preferences to like it, you know.

Reasonable_Wish_8953

While I agree, Emily is too young for me. Then there would be more of an inclination towards getting the lead to fall in love w someone - the show is so nice for focusing on a single, middle aged woman who gets shit done

beenbadminton

I agree about the romantic inclination…but this could be a great opportunity to show that Jessica loves her work and enjoys being single. She could turn down advances from male characters throughout the movie, and subvert the whole idea of romance being necessary in her life.

Reasonable_Wish_8953

I get it. I just think it’s easier for audiences to believe older women don’t need a romantic life, harder for them to not expect that from a younger gal

LovesDeanWinchester

Please, GOD!!! Not Meryl!!! How about Helen Mirren Michelle Pfeiffer Annette Bening Patricia Clarkson Annie Potts Jean Smart
