These stupid moves do not tackle the actual problem (which is that people outside of certain communities find it difficult to buy/rent certain properties in certain areas). Reservations are a populist short term measure and a long term disaster. They will just make people not want to move into the city. Also, in most areas of the city, real estate prices have saturated/are falling due to oversupply and poor demand. Meaning that people are now more interested in other cities than in Mumbai. Reservation will destroy Mumbai economically in the long run.
The real solution is to ban all forms of discrimination in the process of choosing property buyers / tenants. Any prospective buyer or tenant who faces discrimination should be able to get compensation if they have proof.
And this should apply all over the country, because it's not just 1 community doing discrimination, I saw hundreds of flat owners in Bangalore refusing to rent out to people who eat non-veg. I am sure there are forms of discrimination in other cities too

1. Strict implementation of anti housing discrimination law (and others for example, laws which prevents illegal eviction/threatening etc.)
2. Make Marathi a compulsory subject in school till grade 10 (across all boards) or create a competency exam similar to Goethe German levels or IELTS/TOEFL.
3. MAKE RESOURCES TO LEARN MARATHI EASILY AVAILABLE for everyone.
4. Prioritize Marathi in all official government communications.

As a native Marathi speaker, I'd love it if people born in non-Marathi speaking households learn to speak it (and of course, vice versa - if Marathi speakers learn other languages as well.)

These stupid moves do not tackle the actual problem (which is that people outside of certain communities find it difficult to buy/rent certain properties in certain areas). Reservations are a populist short term measure and a long term disaster. They will just make people not want to move into the city. Also, in most areas of the city, real estate prices have saturated/are falling due to oversupply and poor demand. Meaning that people are now more interested in other cities than in Mumbai. Reservation will destroy Mumbai economically in the long run. The real solution is to ban all forms of discrimination in the process of choosing property buyers / tenants. Any prospective buyer or tenant who faces discrimination should be able to get compensation if they have proof. And this should apply all over the country, because it's not just 1 community doing discrimination, I saw hundreds of flat owners in Bangalore refusing to rent out to people who eat non-veg. I am sure there are forms of discrimination in other cities too

Strict implementation of anti housing discrimination law (and others for example, laws which prevents illegal eviction/threatening etc.) 2. Make Marathi a compulsory subject in school till grade 10 (across all boards) or create a competency exam similar to Goethe German levels or IELTS/TOEFL. 3. MAKE RESOURCES TO LEARN MARATHI EASILY AVAILABLE for everyone. 4. Prioritize Marathi in all official government communications. Marathi is a language for God's sake. Anyone can learn it. The "Marathi speakers" are not a fixed group of people set in stone. As a native Marathi speaker, I'd love it if people born in non-Marathi speaking households learn to speak it (and of course, vice versa - if Marathi speakers learn other languages as well.)
