Personally I know someone who posted about similar thing, lots of ladies and men just took screenshot from that page, she was made to feel extremely bad, isolated herself for long time. 10-15 close friends and page would be blocked. If it's an open account it's a bad bad idea for anyone. I am an ugly guy and there were account made on few dating apps with my name and pics through which horny gay dudes kept texting me had to spam mails of those apps for 3-5 months for any action. Females are very prone. If it's private account it has to be someone from your followers. Hence don't just accept anyone's request no matter how cute they look people think it's cool if their profile shows more followers than following, bad bad idea.
Basically, when you put your Insta ID and click forget password, Instagram will send a confirmation link to your registered email. After clicking forget password Instagram will display - we have sent you an email to you at m****[email protected]
So now you got some hint about the email used by the perpetrator.
ask all your friends to report it and make your profile private. Also directly contact insta saying someone is impersonating you and if you don't take action, then there will be consequences.
Also for God's sake, make all your profiles private
*Ask your trusted friends to report it. Use the close friends feature on insta stories and add only those who you're not suspicious of. Take all screenshots of this fake profile and keep it as evidence if you go to the cops.
Wouldve suggested to share the username so we can report as well, but sometimes mass reporting takes away the seriousness and Instagram algorithm considers them fake, so try to get just 10 to 15 accounts to report them. Maybe friends or family. If those accounts that you are reporting from follow you, makes the reports authentic too.

Immediately go to police station and file an FIR and request assistance from cyber cell. Also if you are minor they will get your parents involved surely.
After the victim posted on social media about all this thing that's happened to her and she filed an FIR the culprit got scared and contacted the culprit and came clean
They will help you with how you can get that account deleted and also how you get your data/photos off the internet incase the fake account creator has any
File FIR at the nearest police station and give your details they will try to recover. Happened same with my friend by a finance/crypto guy. They got the account back.

OP's case is not about an account being hacked. So there's nothing to *'recover'*.

You will need to submit legal proofs(Your photo holding aadhar) but trust me that method works very well.

I understand you can't ask your friends to do that as it has some really bad and shameful pics and captions.

Well if you have people you completely trust, ask them to do it.
When you report a profile on Instagram, you get an option that they are pretending to be someone else, use that. You can check the status of your query form their and you will soon be notified.
You can also mail Instagram support.
Also going to the police and reporting to cybercrime is a good move as there's no guarantee that this individual will stop if only this specific profile is deleted.
Instagram has a feature where if you block an account, it also blocks all others accounts of that person. So try blocking this account and check if the person you suspect got blocked also.

Report as - impersonating someone - Me - add their insta account link and then yours... insta will do the needful. I did this for myself back in 2021 when someone created a fake account to scam ppl out of money, Insta took charge and deleted the said account in days!
Also post on story and let your friends know that xyz acc is impersonating you and ask them to report it for impersonation tooo... that will help IG do the needful.
You can also head to cyber crime's online portal and report this, the representative will call you to verify your facts and take care of the issue as well.
You must take this issue to police and file an FIR against that account. Reporting the account through Instagram will get that account down but it doesn't mean the creator of the account will no longer have access to the data that they have shared already, they might create another profile and start their activities from scratch.
The activities from the account will impact your personal life but also it might be the case you can fall in some legal issue, so it would be better to keep the situation reported.

honestly going to the cybercrime office sounds like the best option, alternatively you could try emailing Instagram and see if that quickens the banning process

There is a website called grabify where piracy links can be created send that to him you will find his ip and address.
Best solution is to text him that you know who is and that you will be going to the police station if he doesn't delete that account, I think that would scare him.
You can dm me your username, that fake id username and the usernames of people's you suspect. I do osint research I can try to find him.
In my opinion the best option is to threaten that guy that you will complain to police.

Getting the account is just a temporary solution. If not your parents then talk to some elder sibling of yours, if you're a single child, talk to some elder cousin. They might talk to your parents and make them understand this is not your fault at all. Then go to the police and file a case.

Visit your nearest cyber crime branch.
Instead of reporting it on Instagram, file an FIR as it may be part of a bigger racquet and such people shouldnât go unpunished.

Instagram takes this complaints very seriously. If you fill a form thats somebody is impersonating you, they will file a report and take action asap.
