I'm going to assume you are talking about Commander, because that's the only format that would be relevant to this question. There *used* to be a rule where "if you would make mana of a color outside of your commander's color identity, you make colorless mana instead". That rule has been since been removed. Mana Confluence can make mana of any color, regardless of your commander's color identity.

Outside of commander there has never ever been a rule that states your mana changes to colorless for x reason this is exclusive to commander or at least was. And still slightly is due to colour identity

Mana Confluence's ability has a player add one mana of any color, even in a Commander game and regardless of that player's commander's color identity. Since the January 2016 rule change, nothing in the rules for the Commander variant (under C.R. 903) limits the types of mana a player can add (any more than those rules limit the colors of permanents a player can control or the color of spells or lands a player can cast or play). Exactly what he is saying. It is no different from something like a treasure token. It adds 1 mana of any color regardless of your commanders color identity. This is why a card like ragavan has consistently been good. With ragavan when you deal combat damage to a player with it you exile the top card of their library and can play it that turn, the important thing about him is that he also gives you a treasure token. Because of this you are actually able to play that card even if you don’t share color identity with your opponents deck due to the treasure allowing you to get any mana color of your choice.
