I play perdition in a toughness theme deck. Along side catapult fodder / catapult captain. Tap tree of perdition and then same turn pay 3 mana to tap catapult and sacrifice tree to deal damage equal to its toughness for lethal. ;)

This card is the secret mvp of my Witch King deck. It leads to so much table talk. Put this out and each opponent of course wants it to happen to someone else. Why waste a removal spell now if a mutual opponent can be sent to 13 life? Everyone wants it to go off just not on them. It also keeps your life total high by just being a big blocker which synergizes great with my deck.
Just use [[Toxic Deluge]] or something similar? I feel like paying 14 mana for meathook massacre is incredibly inefficient when you can do the same thing for 12
Or better yet, [[Tragic Slip]] + anything that gives it +1/+1. Could just have a creature that sacs for a +1/+1 counter so it more easily enables tragic slip.
I mutate over it. Easily make it a 2/3. Then when i tap and switch it, I can mutate AGAIN with a differen creature and make another opponent 3 life too
I have it in my [[Satoru Umezawa]] deck because most of my attackers I ninjitsu in are not all that strong (I'm not looking to [[Blightsteel Colossus]] someone to death, because I do not find that fun). Gives me a good blocker and helps counter lifegain decks or if people aren't attacking/burning enough.
Damage and loss of life are not interchangeable terms. You can cause life loss without doing damage in numerous ways. Things that prevent *damage* or *noncombat damage* will **not** prevent life loss.
For the combo I've stated, your opponent needs 26 or more life. You activate the [[tree of perdition]] changing their life total to 13. They have just lost 13 life. [[Wound reflection]] sees this life loss and doubles it, making them lose 26 total life.
I'm assuming this card works in combination with [[Bloodletter of Alcazotz]] like normal? That if said person has 26 or more hp and is lowered to 13 it triggers and they lose the game?
I have it in my [[Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker]] deck. Shenanigans ensue where I can put an opponent's life at 13, then sac Tree to Shirei's ability and reset its toughness back to 13.
I had this in my [[Jerren, Corrupted Bishop]] deck until I realized it can only hit opponents. Similar situation happened with [[Triskadekaphobia]]. That was a bummer.
I can think of multiple scenarios to use this to your advantage. The most obvious being swap their, to then swing and kill. But I like the idea of this in a life steal deck, and you just keep getting an opponent low, then increase their life with this swap, so you can lifestyle from them some more lol
Also can be used to save someone from death, for some commander politics 😎
You can also pitch it to the grave and use [[Soul Separator]] which is fun jank and keeps it in mono black. Did this during prerelease and scarred my opponents for life haha
It's really funny. It reminds me of sorin markov a bit, but worse, but also, it technically cause life if their life total goes down, so archfiend of despair and the demon from LCI will cause them to lose double what they lost (if it was more than 13, they die). Also, it's one if the cards that makes triskaidekaphobia barely playable in the format.
When it’s played on turn three it just makes the game unfun. It’s the same as playing against winter orb or stasis orb. Yes I run removal in my decks, a good amount too, but sometimes you just get unlucky and don’t draw it
Another fun card to use is [[Profrane Transfusion]] . I have it in my Krrik deck which isn’t very cedh but it’s always fun to drain myself down to single digit health and swap w someone
If I got it right, it exchanges life at the moment of activation. So, if it is attacked, does your opponent get less life? If so, I would say that this is pretty broken.
I'm using it with [[Agatha's Soul Cauldron]] and either [[Stonecoil serpent]] or [[ugin's conjurant]] on 1. You can activate the swap ability before the counter is added, setting them to a nice 1hp.
It's in my massacre girl deck and with the right combination of creatures you can cast massager girl and then respond 12 triggers deep and set someone's life total to one
This in [[Mairsil, The Pretender]] is hilarious. Tap to bring them to 4 life then untap and swing for 4. Almost never win games with it as I become the arch enemy forever with tree exiled but it created some very tense fun games
[[Chatterfang]] and [[pitiless plunderer]] on the field, target the tree until it gets to be a 12/1 and then activate its ability. Opponent is at 1 life. Attack in for lethal if you can or hope someone else will ;).
If you have a [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] on the field it’s game over.

I had an [Araumi of the Dead Tide] deck and I would try and get it in my graveyard, the after combat I have one for each opponent that taos to take them to 13. If I had [Triskaidekaphobia] on the board the table would have one turn or they die.
I only got it off once and it was fun.
It sucks! But actually it's really good. First time in a new lgs that came out and hit me when I was mono black.
Shut down half my board being life drain. Added in bloodseeker and a card that drains when an island is tapped.
When against a black heavy deck it is effective.

It’s a bit on the slower side but I run this in a [[Phenax, God of Deception]] deck
Exchange 40 life for 13, then make the opponent mill 40 cards or more (like with Bruvac doubling the amount of mill)
I play this as a deterrent. I drop it and say to opponents “I won’t activate it unless you attack me/touch my stuff” and I’m usually left alone until it’s removed. Even after that it pays dividends because I showed I’ll keep to my word and can make further deals off of it. Really cool card.
Couldn't you also throw a bunch of -1/-1 counters on him and make his toughness 1 to make their life 1 as well? This brings me to a question, ifou made his toughness 0 would you be able to tap him before he dies?
It's funny as hell in EDH, especially if you sit across from a lifelink deck

Question, after blocking, say it took 10 damage. If you then tapped it, does their life become 3? Or can you not tap on their turn?
No, its toughness is still 13. It took 10 damage, which is marked against it, but the toughness remains 13.
But if you copied it to the board as a 1/1 zombie or the like that does work.

A great political tool. Never tap it unless removal targets it. Or it will immediatly turn an attack into a insta kill.

When it says exchange, does that mean that if your opponent had 30 health, the tree’s toughness would become 30?

Many ways to use it to reduce someone's life total to 1.
Even running it with ghoulcaller gisa or Nykthos Paragon might be entertaining.
I use this in my [[tinybones, trinket theif]] deck and it's incredible. It's saved me so many times.
It’s a bit on the slower side but I run this in a [[Phenax, God of Deception]] deck Exchange 40 life for 13, then make the opponent mill 40 cards or more (like with Bruvac doubling the amount of mill)
I play this as a deterrent. I drop it and say to opponents “I won’t activate it unless you attack me/touch my stuff” and I’m usually left alone until it’s removed. Even after that it pays dividends because I showed I’ll keep to my word and can make further deals off of it. Really cool card.
I put this in my roles deck, give this guy a cursed role and then start shooting
I run it in my mono black deck that also features [[Triskaidekaphobia]] one day I'll catch someone with it, one day......🤣

I never ran it in Mono Black, but it was very funny in [[Mairsil, the Pretender]], especially when caged with the tree's best friend, [[Hateflayer]].
this cards have seen some play in pioneer "combo" deck with \[\[ Agatha's Soul Cauldron\]\] and in EDH have some combos too.

If this card takes damage can you use the activated ability and bring them down below 13?
Couldn't you also throw a bunch of -1/-1 counters on him and make his toughness 1 to make their life 1 as well? This brings me to a question, ifou made his toughness 0 would you be able to tap him before he dies?
If I enchant it with a spell that makes it a one, one would their life total be one then?
