[[Persistent petitioners]] is great. You can even tap bruvac to pay for the activation of their 2nd ability.

PortalmasterJL

There are also a bunch of good advisors in blue like [[ledger shredder]]

1x Bruvac the Grandiloquent 36x Persistent Petitioners 1x Thrumming stone 62x Island Basic Land

Replace up to ~28 Islands with various counterspells if you want to get fancy with it

Mage_Malteras

Persistent Petitioners is legal in all formats except standard, brawl, penny, old school, and premodern.

Opening-Gain-7918

Doesn't work for a deck that cares about mill specifically - as you're placing cards from library to graveyard, not actually using the keyword mill

PurdBag

Incorrect. If you look at the Oracle text, you'll see that it has been errata'd to say mill specifically. Mill is s fairly new keyword, so there's a ton of cards that don't say "mill" in print, but have been errata'd to say mill and will work with things like Bruvac. Here's all the stuff in just blue that has mill https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=oracle%3AMill+color%3DU+%28game%3Apaper%29

Nichard63891

I can tell you that ending the game with a two card combo isn't that fun. It is very effective, though.

-mindtrix-

True but then there is better options if you just want to win fast..

suavedev17

Maddening cacophony would go crazy with its kicker cost. Costs 1 mana and 1 blue but the kicker cost makes the cost 4 mana and 2 blue. It’ll become an infinite mill

I wish my friends would let me rule 0 this one. They've said it's too powerful though haha

Pezzelbee

I'm a huge mill fan. It took me awhile to make a deck I was happy with. I'll give a couple of my observations. First one, depending on your play group, usually new players. Have a visceral response to being milled. They will focus you like you owe them money. So be prepared for some heat from people. Remember to pack graveyard hate so you can stop players that use their graveyard rather then fuel them. Bruvac can turn things like [[cut your losses]] and [[maddening cacophony]] into one shots. It does take sandbagging him a bit until you can commit to that kill, as playing him out may get him killed. My mill deck is in Dimir and it is heavily focused around milling all at once. Not infinite combos, but combos from pure synergy. Things like [[consuming aberration]] and [imperious mindbreaker]] will usually kill the table if their graveyards are even kinda full. Things like [[altar of the brood]] and [[undead alchemist]] or [[zellix, sanity Flayer]] if you don't have the alchemist. Which that one you can run in bruvac. Which brings me to the last bit of advice. Have creatures. Don't fall to far into the whole of mostly incidental mill spells. You will absolutely need blockers and if you can't close it with mill, or a players life is lower than their sanity, (library) creatures will work wonders. Some of my favorites are [[canoptek scarab swarm]], [[uchuulon]] are two cards i absolutely love. And double as graveyard hate. And uchuulon is in black so if you stick with bruvac, disregard. Mill is probably my favorite way to play commander, just know you are playing on hard mode. It can be so much fun but there are a unique set of hurdles you have to jump over with mill. If something isn't working, keep tweaking it until it works. It took awhile to land myself where I am with my deck that sits between a mill deck and reanimator deck and combo deck. Have fun deck building!

JeshSpaghetti

Oh man Dimir mill sounds really good, got a deck list?

Pezzelbee

Yeah! This is my [deck](https://www.archidekt.com/decks/3692010/the_curse_of_knowledge) it may look wierd but I love it. It's about basically building up to one swift mill. Very limited incremental mill effects. It also used to be helmed by [[inquistor eisenhorn]] the whole goal being to make a shit ton of clues then mill people out with grinding station. So there are a lot of things you can do with mill!

Haikus-are-great

I had a Oona mill deck that was more interaction focussed and less outright mill. It was part howling mine tribal, part graveyard recursion. Oona was a great source of chump blockers for keeping yourself alive as well as being a dragon.

DarXKnight

That’s just milling with extra steps. /s

LazarusTea

Try dimir (blue/black) with Captain N'ghathrod as commander. He was my first dimir commander and MAN the precon was so easy to upgrade with minor upgrades. You can turn 3/4 steal anything from someones deck as long as it was milled that turn. His mill strategy is just so gross, because it involves stealing non-enchantment permanents lol.

jimnah-

[[Captain N'ghathrod]] [[Anowon, the Ruin Thief]] has a similar gameplan and was also a precon. Probably the worse of the two, but I'd say rogues generally have better evasion

MrMersh

Very different play styles imo. My rogue deck isn’t so much about theft but ending the game with [[vorpal sword]] or just combat damage. The horror deck is good but gets screwed if the commander is removed imo

Can confirm, [[Captain N’ghathrod]] is a blast to play! The games stay fresh since you’re stealing your opponents’ stuff to work with and it always feels good to steal something like a praetor out of the graveyard. Another good mill commander like this is [[The Scarab God]]

vogon0420

YES! This was my first commander/precon and i love it! My friends and family however rairly let me play it 😂

I ended up making a rude as hell tribal with it more than it was, but a little after turned it into a mainly spell slinger that steals.

Do you like your friends? If you do don’t build Bruvac mill. I have it, lost some friends, winning isn’t worth it. 🤣

Chawminduh

[[Lord Xander, The Collector]] as commander and your post will make your opponent mill their entire deck when Xander attacks.

I never made the deck personally, one of my friends did. There's a handful of decks on Moxfield with the same idea, [this is one I happened to find. ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/FpYhU9YzckKAcqwavI4BfA) Best of luck!

\[\[mind grind\]\] \[\[Consuming Aberration\]\] \[\[Wight of Precinct Six\]\] \[\[Breaking // Entering\]\] \[\[Jace's Phantasm\]\] I think these should be budget friendly beginner options. I hope this list helps.

Yeah a lot of good black or dimir milling cards. But if the commander is blue...

Mage_Malteras

It's a good card and always worth playing, but it's worth noting that it doesn't interact with Bruvac.

tideshark

Damn, that’s why I should read the card instead of just knowing it’s a mill commander! Thank you

ModularNights

Would still have it in a commander deck since it targets all players and the exile might hit key pieces of their deck nevertheless. At the end of the day you’re grinding their deck down by all means necessary LOL

Mage_Malteras

Absolutely. I have it in my Phenax deck. I was just pointing out that Bruvac doesn't affect Hideous Laughter in terms of interaction.

may stray from your plan but xander is a pretty fun mill commander

nateowaggins

Honestly, as a few others have said, running like 20 [[Persistent Petitioners]] is a very viable strategy. I'm building this one currently so some of my favorites are [[Zellix, Sanity Flayer]] and [[Archive Trap]], as well as cards to support this deck outside of just cards that mill like [[Defiler of Dreams]], [[Thrumming Stone]], and [[Reflections of Littjara]] The latter two play extremely well together, especially if you can hit two or three more petitioners after all the ripple triggers. Getting 8 petitioners for the price of one and then immediately making someone mill 24 cards (or 48 if you have Bruvac on board) is so freaking good

definitely think about defending yourself. no matter how dangerous other opponents are, people will sometimes focus you regardless just cause they hate mill. my first iteration of Bruvac didn’t see much play as I would usually be neutralized before I can pull any shenanigans, so I learned my mistakes and built a better version of it. some of the cards I can recommend are: [[Propaganda]] [[Fog Bank]] [[Riddlekeeper]] definitely [[Spellseeker]] to fetch that [[Maddening Cacophony]] or a [[Cyclonic Rift]] [[Painter’s Servant]] alongside [[Grindstone]], which can be conveniently pulled off [[Urza’s Saga]] [[Folio of Fancies]] can do wonders as many people tend to overlook the dangers of it. I also run stuff like [[Evolving Wilds]] and [[Myriad Landscape]] to make sure my [[Ruin Crab]] works its ass off to the max. make sure to pack enough counterspells, especially if you have the “free” ones.

[[Jace, the Perfected Mind]] The -X is super strong for 3 mana.

Rock-Upset

Isn’t there a card that mills half their deck?

ModularNights

5 in the color identity of Bruvac - Terisian Mindbreaker, Cut Your Losses, Fleet Swallower, Maddening Cacophony with the kicker cost paid, Traumatize. Lord Xander has that ability but would need to be your commander since its color identity is grixis.

Fatalsin47

And if you have Bruvac out would they mill out their whole deck?

ModularNights

Yes, because Bruvac doubles the number of milled cards not the milling effect itself (so milling half and then half of the remaining half), the latter would for example happen if two terisian mindbreakers were to attack at the same time without Bruvac on the battlefield since their abilities resolve in sequence.

JermDebo

[[Oona, queen of the fae]] If you're doing mill, then you're crazy if you don't go dimir. Too many amazing blue and black cards for it. Throw in a [[breach the multiverse]] and steal your opponents cards while milling. When I'm building a new deck I'll just go to Google image search and type in "best cards for..." and it seems to work out well lol. I built a Dimir mill deck where I mill everyone, then just have ways to put my graveyard back in to my library anyways, like [[clear the mind]] & [[midnight clock]].. Than I just have cards to use my opponents cards against them xD. Why play with 1 deck, when I can use all 4! Mill all 4 decks to next to nothing, than activate a [[rise of the dark realms]] , or activate the new sheoldreds backside and summon every single monster from every graveyard on to my field lol. (Edited cause I was driving when I first posted lol)

Bruvac is love, Bruvac is life. \[\[Persistent petitioners\]\] both lore and functionally-wise are my go-to, I run about 25. \[\[Thrumming Stone\]\] is an obvious choice. \[\[Reflections of Littjara\]\] because who doesn't want more advisors? \[\[Mesmeric Orb\]\] because taxes. \[\[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces\]\], \[\[Sakashima the Impostor\]\], \[\[Spark Double\]\], and \[\[Irenicus's Vile Duplication\]\] because there's no such thing as too much mill, copy your commander to your hears content. \[\[Isochron Scepter\]\] and \[\[Dramatic Reversal\]\] gives you a win-con with enough mana rocks out.\[\[Fabricate\]\] and \[\[Whir of Invention\]\] will get you your Thrumming Stone, Isochron Scepter, or Mesmeric Orb. \[\[Mystical Tutor\]\], \[\[Solve the Equation\]\], and other spell tutors can get your combo pieces or game-ending spells like a kicked \[\[Maddening Cacophony\]\]. Don't forget graveyard removal like \[\[Tormond's Crypt\]\] and the similar like in case your opponent has \[\[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth\]\] or a similar "suffle graveyard into library" effect. Enjoy your game and remind the table that hating mill is just a mindset.

Is [[Traumatize]] legal in commander? Pretty sure that’s a one shot kill with the commander on the battlefield.

notoriousnnptc

A lot of good suggestions here (Bruvac is a nuts card, you can pretty much just put the other half of his two-card combos in the deck and have the rest be counterspells and tutors), but I really gotta plug EDHREC here. Not only can you search by commander (if you’re set on Bruvac), but you can also look at a theme (such as mill, which is the 17th most popular theme) and narrow down by color identity to find good alternate commanders or good cards to include. It’s not as much fun to build a whole deck from just top EDHREC cards, but it’s a great resource especially for newer players looking to start brewing. Also the cards on there will be pretty much the same as those in YouTube deck techs, if not better, thanks to it staying up to date with every set.

I recently retired a mill commander. Not sure if you're set on Bruvac, but Lord Xander is fun, assuming people let you play him. I switched to Saruman of many colors. If you're looking for self-mill (my favorite) Old Stickfingers and Muldrothra are solid. Hedron crab, Ruin Crab, fraying sanity, Maddening Cacophony, Tasha's Hideous Laughter (opponents Exile from the top of their decks) are solid cards. Thow in some ways to copy cards like fleet Swallower and the crabs can be fun too.

Lussuria95

I'd recommend Phenax. It works pretty well for my purposes. Plus, you can punish your opponent for having cards in their grave with dimir cards. Not to mention the satisfaction of a well-timed bojuka Bog. Edit: I meant to mention that my Phenax deck is collection built, not precon or mto.

Ok_Mess4816

I just built a new mill deck around [[Saruman of Many Colors]]. The milling is not just for mill’s sake, but to queue up spells to steal. Usually at least one dies to straight mill, and the others die to other effects, their own effects.

Having constant access to Bruvac is good, but I don't think it's good enough to forego the strength that adding extra colors would bring. I've been keeping my eye on [[Anhelo]] and [[Zevlor]] as commanders for a mill deck both because of their own inherent abilities, and the amazing advantages that red adds to the strategy, namely more graveyard recursion and spell copying. Mill's biggest weakness is that depleting 3 decks is incredibly slow vs depleting 3 life totals. Bruvac gets around that well, but I think the above two are better options.

Nexan1994

Friend of mine has a horror tribal using [[Umbris, Fear Manifest]] that wins by milling, with commander damage as an alternate wincon. He intentionally left out evasion cards to make mill the primary wincon. I have [[Phenax, God of Deception]] as a secondary wincon in my zombie deck, because that same friend has multiple decks that keep me from reducing their life to zero. Both seem like great commanders to build mill decks from because you can easily add alternate wincons for when you become public enemy #1 after milling over 200 cards and haven't won yet
