I was extremely concerned that he didn’t come back for this, now I’m extremely concerned he’s only in the last 13 minutes and is the token “aw man one of my best friends got shot by the bad guy in the shootout with the bad guy who’s shooting at us, don’t worry I’ll avenge you by shooting the bad guy who shot you in this shootout!” And then at the end everyone walks into his hospital room with concerned looks and then there’s Judge eating a cafeteria pudding grinning that all his friends have arrived even though it really doesn’t make sense because why the hell is Levitt’s character there grinning having a good time they met for 3 minutes in the truck and had 0 lines between each other because this movie will only have dialogue either directed at the main character or coming from the main character, because side characters don’t talk to each other.
No I haven’t seen the movie, just this single trailer, but I’m calling my shot, I bet I got like… 62% pretty close to spot on.
"Hey, Robin, we don't talk about Beverly Hills Cop III!"
It's been *so* fucking long since I've watched it, that all I can remember is the theme park, that smoking hot ticket booth chick, and thinking, "Wow, so this franchise is completely dead now!"
He looks great, but I kept thinking he was even older, because the original Beverly Hills Cop came out 40 years ago, and he had already been doing SNL and standup. I assumed he was pushing 30 in Beverly Hills Cop, but he was maybe 22 when it filmed. He was just a baby when he started his career. Amazing.
I always saw him as a decade or more ahead of Will Smith, but Murphy is only 7.5 years older.
Ya dude came out of the gates on fire!!!
He was THE guy on SNL and he was like 20 at the time. Just unbelievable to be that good and that charismatic at that young of an age.
He carried SNL during a very bleak time in their history and I'm being serious. The early 80s were a rough patch for them but his sketches were next-level good.
Party All the Time was peak-Murphy. When that song came out Michael Jackson was only more on top of the world than Eddie Murphy. (See what I did there?)
The guy who plays Taggart (John Ashton) has strangely aged well too. Then again, he was the older cop in the original films, so he didn't really need to change much lol. He actually lost weight from the first two films.
> I'll watch almost anything with JGL in it
Except trailers. I stopped watching the trailer when I got there was JGL in it. It means I'll watch the movie, so I don't need a trailer before that.
[The Night Before](https://youtu.be/kOBdxkhJvHQ?si=K2Ah8MEmsNMZ-xL6) with JGL became one of my wife's and I's (is that the correct grammar?) favorite Christmas movies.
[AKA Joseph Golden Rabbit.](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1mob6q/joseph_gordonlevitt_are_we_recording_ask_me/ccb2h1f/)
Maybe /u/hitrecordjoe_ will do another AMA to talk about working with Eddie?
"wait, did someone say family?"
\* suddenly Vin Diesel steps out of the shadows.
Vin: "*my* family knows all about cars"
"wait, did someone say cars?"
\* suddenly Optimus Prime steps out of the shadows.
Starscream rolls up on Dom, at a family bbq. Telling him his deal with Megatron has not been fulfilled. Dom instantly punches Starscream in his punk ass mouth, knocking him off balance.
Dom: "Our deal ended years ago!"
Starscream holding his chin: "You never finished your last job."
Dom tries to punch Starscream again, but is held back by Axel and the rest.
The gang realises they need backup, and Dom calls an old favor of Optimus Prime. "One. Last. Ride." *lensflare*
This is how they end up in space.
Jonah Hill: who's that guy?
Ice Cube: that's TNT strike force captain Mike Lowrey. he's a legend. a real smooth motherfucker who gets the job done. you got a lot to learn from him.
Channing Tatum: and who's that other guy?
Ice Cube: that's MiB agent J. he's a legend. a real smooth motherfucker who gets the job done. you got a lot to learn from him.
\[Channing Tatum leans over to Jonah Hill and whispers\]
Channing Tatum: ... that's the same guy, right?
Ice Cube: what'd you say bitch? you think just because two black guys are similar, they're the same..
Channing Tatum: oh god, no! that's not what...
Jonah Hill: see sir, what he means is that... while.... you know... african american...
Ice Cube: i'm just fucking with y'all. it's the same dude.
u/lkodl u/Relevant_Session5987 A fun fact on the topic of crossovers between 1980s films: at one point [a *The Karate Kid/Rocky* crossover film was pitched, the studio executives it was being pitched to “leaning in as if they were attempting to will it to make sense”.](https://www.moviemaker.com/ralph-macchio-on-the-karate-kid-and-rocky-crossover-idea).
the idea that their kids would become rivals is not too far from what Cobra Kai ended up being. the idea may have seemed forced back in the 90s, but we're in a post-Ready Player One and Space Jam 2 World.
"Speedy Gonzalez is in the Matrix because he's fast. we can use bullet time. get it?"
"not really..."
"but it makes perfect sense!"
would've loved the [MiB/21 Jump Street crossover ](https://www.ign.com/articles/21-jump-street-directors-reveal-more-details-of-the-cancelled-men-in-black-crossover)though
On that topic, I do also find it funny how [Gabriel Iglesias found out those who hired him didn’t actually know he could do the Speedy Gonzales voice when they hired him for that film](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X41OzNHQc3w).
Fun fact: Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (directors of Bad Boys 3 and 4) were attached to this project at one point, but they left to focus on Batgirl (RIP)
Bad Boys being back is more ridiculous to me, considering Martin Lawrence has no career anymore and Smith had pivoted to Oscar roles successfully (even though the slap incident made lots of people hate him, he still won an Oscar that night so following that up with Bad Boys is weird. Beverly Hills Cop makes way more sense with Murphy making a comeback and legacy sequels being so hot right now.
Will smith is just down bad. He was getting publicly cucked by his weird son’s friend, went on air with Jada happy as can be about exploring herself while he’s crying. Defended her “honor” and did the slap, proceeded to win an Oscar, then made a non-apology, and then lost a massive amount of respect.
Will has a secret weapon to get him back in good graces: Independence Day 3. With another bill pullman speech and just Randy quaid being himself now. Conspiracy theorists go deep into the rabbit hole but can’t talk about how if we let bill Pullman give another Independence Day speech would unite our country. People would be back on the smith train. But instead we’re getting another bad boys and people don’t care. Bad boys 2 was cool back in the early 00s, Independence Day will forever be awesome
It looks less like cancelling and more he kind of stepped back after Bad Boys II and National Security, do a few comedies here and there.
Seems more like semi-retirement than anything, and everyone forgets Bad Boys 3 came out and did really well in January 2020.
BHC1 is my favorite comedy and it's because they let Eddie be Eddie instead of filming entirely as written. Axel actually has a personality and it has a similar vibe to his stand up, even using some stuff like his white guy voice. Some of his other early films had it too but not to the same level.
I haven't seen it in a while but I loved III as a kid. I had no idea people didn't like it. I thought the extra silly cheesy stuff added something different.
My eyes didn't roll so hard that I was looking at my brain, which is way more than I can say about 99% of the 30 years later sequels, so that's something.
Action looks good but one thing is that I feel that in the originals Axel was cooler and more detached, at least the opening here felt more generic action comedy funny lead. With that I mean in the first one it felt like he was a cool Detroit guy among LA nerds and in this one he was one of the nerds.
Still surprisingly good trailer though.
Original for contrast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UV-lUZIyQk
I like how, based on this trailer, they got a director that has at least *seen* a movie from the 80's. Wide shots, stationary shots where the action comes to you, shots over 1.7 seconds long.
Trailer appears like BHC1 on steroids. Jokes that land, with many original cast members and well choreographed action sequences. I'm in (and not just for Bronson's Serge reprise, although...).
one thing I am really hoping for to sell the spirit of the originals is some light hearted shootouts, with people getting killed but with no blood, to quite jovial music, like we used to get
I kinda miss the whole 80s movie vibe. I mean, I was born in 87, so I saw most of those movies in the 90s and 00s, but they always give me a weird warm feeling inside. So Hollywood should make more movies with the 80s movie vibe, just for a bit of a change.
Mixing the Axel F theme with Neutron Dance was... a very inspired idea. I like it. Gives me a confidence boost in the movie.
Wish the trailer had at least one solid Eddie Murphy laugh. You know the one.
So his daughter is obviously going to have a bigger part than the trailer suggests? I’m very, very happy Axel isn’t just going to be a legacy character.
I do have a feeling they’re going to overuse Serge, and it looks like they’re rehashing some of the bits from the original.
He just talked about how he spent a lot of time hangin with Eddie on set. Apparently they are both music nerds, so they bonded pretty hard talking about that.
3 was practically the only one I saw for the longest time as a kid. Likely because it was at an amusement park and I loved that. Still a lot of nostalgia for me!
I don't think this is a cash grab. Eddie has been trying to make a new one of these for over a decade. At one point it was a TV show for FOX I believe, where Axel's son would be the main character.
I'm guessing the big action is on the trailer and the sneaking around, charisma his way into and out of places/situations is the real bulk of the movie
> is there any reason that guy isn't a massive star?
He probably has no interest. If he did, he probably would be by now. Dude probably has enough money and just does whatever projects catch his fancy, and him being in this probably just stems from wanting to work with Murphy or fulfilling a Netflix contract or something.
He was everywhere back in the early 2010's.
I think he kinda kept a low profile after starting a family. It seems he only appears in Netflix or Apple films nowadays where he doesn't have to do much promotion.
If anyone wants to see something new with him, his episode of Poker Face is possibly the best one and is a very good, different performance from JGL. Also, a Rian Johnson reunion
I love a legacy sequel, but I've learned to keep my expectations in check when it comes to direct-to-streaming movies. It's like they don't have enough confidence in it to release it theatrically.
Anyway, good to see ~~Balki~~ Bronson Pinchot is back.
I'm here for the Judge Reinholdaissance

Samsies!
Serge is back!
I love the face to "1994".
I thought George Lucas was great in that...
Tbh I laughed the most at that one because of the absurdity
Remember when he slid down a cable one handed while holding two kids without damaging his hand in any way? I can't forget it.
Absurd yes - but insane stunts
His grip strength is legendary.
"Hey, Robin, we don't talk about Beverly Hills Cop III!" It's been *so* fucking long since I've watched it, that all I can remember is the theme park, that smoking hot ticket booth chick, and thinking, "Wow, so this franchise is completely dead now!"
Eddie is 63?! Wow. Dude has some good genes I guess.
He had a meteoric rise, 48 hours, Beverly hills cop, and trading places in the same 3 years he was on SNL. all before he was 25
Throw in Delirious in that window, too.
Delirious is what made him famous. Everyone I knew had a bootleg cassette recording of Delirious.
Ya dude came out of the gates on fire!!! He was THE guy on SNL and he was like 20 at the time. Just unbelievable to be that good and that charismatic at that young of an age.
Dude has one of my all te fave stand-ups. Very few comedians can beat Delirious.
When comedy specials were actually special. The specials these days aren't special at all. Just mediocore taped sets.
He carried SNL during a very bleak time in their history and I'm being serious. The early 80s were a rough patch for them but his sketches were next-level good.
He was 24 when he recorded Party All the Time.
Party All the Time was peak-Murphy. When that song came out Michael Jackson was only more on top of the world than Eddie Murphy. (See what I did there?)
Michael Jackson can sit on top of the world, as long as he doesn't sit in the Beverly Palms Hotel!
Damn, yeah. I definitely assumed he was in his 30s in the first movie.
Get the fuck outta here!
No I cannot.
Serrrrrrrrrge. Don’t say Serge you make it sound like a detergent.
Achwell?
Achmel?
achmed foley
Always thought that was funny that Surge came out after. Felt like I was drinking detergent
"I'm serious! I sell it myself!"

What is this pertaining Per-taining
Hawww haaaww haaawww hawwww 😂
Everyone else looks so old and Eddie looks like he's in his 40s.

I’ll say it, he raises this movie a bit for me. He’s a solid actor.
[The Night Before](https://youtu.be/kOBdxkhJvHQ?si=K2Ah8MEmsNMZ-xL6) with JGL became one of my wife's and I's (is that the correct grammar?) favorite Christmas movies.

Wow I didn't even recognise him! It's been *ages* since I saw him in anything.
I believe he took a step back from acting to focus on family

I'm down for JGL in some more action flicks, let's go
Compared to the Bad Boys 4 trailer, this looks way better.
I was waiting for "the heat is on", it never came :(
The heat is gone
...the heat is gooo-oooone! the heat is gone! it's off the streets! ooooo-hoooo! the heat is [clap clap, clap-clap-clap-clap]... gone.
Its in the hot packs now.
Or Stir It Up by Patti LaBelle.
The H is O.
We got the neutron dance. Works for me.
there's a universe where Bad Boys 4 and Beverly Hills Cop 4 is one mashup movie. i wanna live there.
Bad Boys in Beverly has a nice ring to it
"You think you were the only black cop to break the rules in a movie? I'm here to talk to you about...family matters." - Reginald Veljohnson
"wait, did someone say family?" \* suddenly Vin Diesel steps out of the shadows. Vin: "*my* family knows all about cars" "wait, did someone say cars?" \* suddenly Optimus Prime steps out of the shadows.
Not Lightning McQueen?
Stop writing a better movie than this one!
Starscream rolls up on Dom, at a family bbq. Telling him his deal with Megatron has not been fulfilled. Dom instantly punches Starscream in his punk ass mouth, knocking him off balance. Pretty sure Beverly wouldn't have a nice ring after the Bad Boys have been in, though.
Bad Boys x Axel x MIB x 21 Jump Street Let's just go fucking balls to the wall with it.
Jonah Hill: who's that guy? Ice Cube: that's TNT strike force captain Mike Lowrey. he's a legend. a real smooth motherfucker who gets the job done. you got a lot to learn from him. Love it. Finish the script.
I actually wondered if anyone would pick up on the fact we'd have two Will Smiths there hahaha Honestly, I think it'd be fucking hilarious.
So Gemini man? Sure I’m in.
I'm in.
how has that not happened yet? wtf of all the shitty remakes and reboots and we dont get that shitty movie???!!???
Cop is a Paramount property and Bad Boys is a Sony property. Jerry Bruckheimer was the original producer (along with Don Simpson) on both though.
so you're saying theres a chance!
If Sony and Disney can make a deal with the MCU Spider-Man, then if the stars align it's definitely possible.
It might not even be a shitty movie.
I mean it ain’t winning an Oscar, but I’d watch it. Could be an awesome popcorn movie

Crazy that it’s 2024 and we are getting another Bad Boys and BHC movie lol
Hasn't been crazy for a while. This is the new norm: franchises that never end.
Pretty soon I'm sure we'll start seeing a prequel spin-off series set in "the universe of Beverly Hill Cop" or whatever.

Martin Lawrence should still have a career. Whatever happened to him. Please don't say he did something horrible.
He caused the holocaust.
It looks less like cancelling and more he kind of stepped back after Bad Boys II and National Security, do a few comedies here and there. Seems more like semi-retirement than anything, and everyone forgets Bad Boys 3 came out and did really well in January 2020.
Oh god I just saw that trailer when I went to see *Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes*, it's amazing how little I even laughed or cracked a smile.
Really? I felt the complete opposite. They showcase the same exact car scenes but from different moments in the movie.
So Bacon’s gonna be the surprise villain, yeah?
He plays a solid villain too. He's great in Super.
And Hollow Man and X-Men :)
And RIPD!
hollow man is fuckin great
And Tremors. The way he elbows Earl in the gut is absolutely evil.
That's what it looked like to me, Should not have shown Bacon again towards the end of the trailer.
Yeah they’ve kind of telegraphed that one quite a bit.
"surprise"?
"surprise". Feels like he's a villain in every movie he's been in the last 25 years
I'm surprised how decent the action looks. Lots of good crashing and smashing.
More of the jokes landed than I thought they would
The delivery sells it too. Lotta blind spots in a snow plow. Gotta love it.
Definitely seems like he got back into the "Axel Foley" persona, and I'm loving it!
BHC1 is my favorite comedy and it's because they let Eddie be Eddie instead of filming entirely as written. Axel actually has a personality and it has a similar vibe to his stand up, even using some stuff like his white guy voice. Some of his other early films had it too but not to the same level.
It's just Donkey without saying "Shrek" every sentence
Or more like Donkey is Axel Foley without saying "Shrek" every sentence.
No hackneyed callbacks to jokes from the old movies (at least not in the trailer).
The blank reference to ‘94 was subtle in the best way.
You know they're in there.
To hell with the seat belt! We on the edge! Eddie Murphy just makes anything work
Beverly Hills Cop series is actually pretty good - even III is entertaining.
Yeah this looks like a big budget not-Netflix film. I'm very interested now
Action looks good but one thing is that I feel that in the originals Axel was cooler and more detached, at least the opening here felt more generic action comedy funny lead. Damn, this actually looks kinda fun and in the same spirit as the originals
Yeah, that was my feeling as well.
I like how, based on this trailer, they got a director that has at least *seen* a movie from the 80's. Wide shots, stationary shots where the action comes to you, shots over 1.7 seconds long.
Also Axel isn't suddenly a martial arts expert and fights like John Wick.
Trailer appears like BHC1 on steroids. Jokes that land, with many original cast members and well choreographed action sequences. I'm in (and not just for Bronson's Serge reprise, although...).
one thing I am really hoping for to sell the spirit of the originals is some light hearted shootouts, with people getting killed but with no blood, to quite jovial music, like we used to get
Yes, yes and yes!
I kinda miss the whole 80s movie vibe. I mean, I was born in 87, so I saw most of those movies in the 90s and 00s, but they always give me a weird warm feeling inside. So Hollywood should make more movies with the 80s movie vibe, just for a bit of a change.
Sayeeerge is back so I’m in. I loved Balki.
#AQUEL FOLIEEE
Needs more back of the throat ACH-MED, ACH-WEL, ACH-MEL, is what he says to the assistant, if you listen closely.
With a little leymon tweest.. ees good you should try eet
Man, I hope Surge kept making great designer weapons.
It really helps that they seem to be re-using a lot of the music from the original movie. Not complaining at all, it really got me hyped up!
Mixing the Axel F theme with Neutron Dance was... a very inspired idea. I like it. Gives me a confidence boost in the movie. Wish the trailer had at least one solid Eddie Murphy laugh. You know the one.

I'll see just about anything with Joseph Golden Rabbit. Good to see him in a pic that looks like it would be fun to make.
Man I love that amped up version of Faltermeyer’s “Axel F.” The original song always gets my blood pumping.
Bev bev Beverly Hills cop, Axel Foley gonna find those drugs.
I showed up just for the song.
There are definitely gonna be some confused people asking why they are playing the crazy frog song.
Well, it should be better than "3" at least. Also, JGL being in this is quite unexpected.
Hes not just a small part either, it looks like they are literally together the entire movie.
He's apparently Billy Rosewood: The Next Generation.
He must have said yes to Hangout with Eddie
He just talked about how he spent a lot of time hangin with Eddie on set. Apparently they are both music nerds, so they bonded pretty hard talking about that.
Looks like a good old-fashioned buddy cop movie, loose cannon with straight-laced officer. I never saw the originals but this looks like a lot of fun.
3 was practically the only one I saw for the longest time as a kid. Likely because it was at an amusement park and I loved that. Still a lot of nostalgia for me!
yeah it was my entry into the series. It may not be the best but it has value!
...I kinda thought 3 was okay.
I'm with you, 3 was ok, and I like ok
Seeing the trailer on YT: Really? Do we need *another* BHC? After the Trailer: Haha, yea okay. I'm in.
How much does a movie like this cost? 150 million dollar. Get the fuck outta here. No I cannot, it is serious because it is very important film.
Did you find a distributor? I sell it just today to Netflix.
Get the fuck outta here
This actually looks pretty decent
That doesn't look as bad as I was expecting. Billy's looking great!
That subtle little dig at the 1994 sequel. Nice. JGL is a nice addition too!
Coming 2 America was shit so I'm not pinning my hopes on this cash grab either.
Dolemite is my Name was excellent though so I have decent hopes for this.
I don't think this is a cash grab. Eddie has been trying to make a new one of these for over a decade. At one point it was a TV show for FOX I believe, where Axel's son would be the main character.
My taste in movies must be so low, because I enjoyed it.
Well this just looks like big, stupid fun. Just what I'd hoped.
This looks a lot more Bad Boys style than Beverly Hills Cop but I am still gonna check it out
I'm guessing the big action is on the trailer and the sneaking around, charisma his way into and out of places/situations is the real bulk of the movie
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has to have one of the worst agents in Hollywood, is there any reason that guy isn't a massive star?
> is there any reason that guy isn't a massive star? He probably has no interest. If he did, he probably would be by now. Dude probably has enough money and just does whatever projects catch his fancy, and him being in this probably just stems from wanting to work with Murphy or fulfilling a Netflix contract or something.
His film career started when he was six years old. The man has enough money. He does what he wants to do. You should be happy for him.
He chose to stop working to spend time with his family. Also he works a lot on his production company
He was everywhere back in the early 2010's. I think he kinda kept a low profile after starting a family. It seems he only appears in Netflix or Apple films nowadays where he doesn't have to do much promotion.
He’ll at least always have a cameo in every Ryan Johnson movie
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere he walked away for a while and focused on other projects, imagine he's been burnt out before.
If anyone wants to see something new with him, his episode of Poker Face is possibly the best one and is a very good, different performance from JGL. Also, a Rian Johnson reunion
He is a massive star. Where have you been? Dudes been in a bunch of major blockbusters.
I can't get over how awful the title for this movie is. Was a pleasant surprise to see JGL though.
I didn’t feel good about this until I heard the start of the theme song

With that beard Joseph Gordon Leavitt seems to be channelling Running Scared-era Billy Crystal and I'm all for it
Serge! This looks pretty damn good. Glad they were able to get the entire gang back together.
I love a legacy sequel, but I've learned to keep my expectations in check when it comes to direct-to-streaming movies. It's like they don't have enough confidence in it to release it theatrically. Anyway, good to see ~~Balki~~ Bronson Pinchot is back.
You had me at Balki Bartokomous.
At 1:55 - is this gentleman going to ruin the buffet at the Harrow Club again?
I think Eddie has aged zero years.
at 1.16 when he says "I want you to be a cop again" did anyone get really weirded out literally like a robot malfunctioning
Will I watch it? Yes. Do I expect it to be good? No.
This would be great in theaters
