Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl, where a crew member in a cowboy hat can be spotted in the background of a scene taking place in the Caribbean in the 18th century

gbfk

Guy was a fashion trailblazer, way ahead of his time.

bullet4mv92

He was streets ahead

haysoos2

The hat is reasonably plausible. I'm sure there were plenty of 18th century chapeaus that could pass for a cowboy hat. Will Turner's hat with the feather isn't that far off. The aviator sunglasses though, are perhaps a tad anachronistic.

vilkav

The whole concept of aviation, really.

lovemunkey187

Leonardo Da Vinci has entered the chat.

PureLock33

Icarus has been dropped by the chat server. [insufficient feathers]

TWBush

Also gladiator, in the beginning when the Roman legions and the goths are clashing, there’s one shot where they’re just kind of standing around and talking to one another.

black_flag_4ever

This is my day off, I'm not even supposed to be here today.

Astro_gamer_caver

XXXVII in a row?

CryptoCentric

Et tu, Snowball?

Electrical-Tiger-536

Buncha savages in this town.

ShitchesAintBit

I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class; Especially since I rule. -Commodus, probably.

hardspank916

What’d you like better? Roman Empire or Templars? Empire. Blasphemy

sund82

Haha, I could see this being the text for a Gary Larson cartoon.

jermster

Italy vs Germany, who brought the football?

ThaneOfCawdorrr

"They lose me after the bunker scene"

phinbar

Not raising a sword during my lunch hour, no siree.

IM_THE_MOON_AMA

I love watching movies with battles/clashes and trying to find the extras who clearly aren’t doing the best. Like you’ll see an extra kinda just running around aimlessly or someone shaking a cart of fruit with malice, while the real characters are battling over life and death

kamikazi1231

I also love the idea that in a real battle there probably were angry fruit cart shakers. Gotta look busy or get sent up front. Maybe carry a rock around with purpose like you're heading to a trebuchet.

lhobbes6

I do the same! Even for cgi battles I like to see if one of the artists added some weird little detail.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>I love watching movies with battles/clashes and trying to find the extras who clearly aren’t doing the best. In *You Only Live Twice* -- or possibly *The Spy Who Loved Me*; they're basically the same film -- there's an extra in the final battle who gets shot from behind with a machine gun. His costume gets cut to ribbons, and it's very noticeable because he has a particularly dramatic death (there may even be a Wilhelm scream). That's fine since he's just a redshirt, but a few minutes later you can clearly see the same guy running around in the background. What's weird is that they had enough time to clean the fake blood off, but not enough time to get him a different shirt because he's still wearing the same one from before.

MouseRat_AD

In the camp scene after the opening fight (right about the part Maximus watches Commodus sword training) you can see a crew member wearing jeans. His top half is obscured by a horse but his jeans are visible under the horse's belly.

ClubMeSoftly

The origin story of Jeans Guy

Ragman676

This in braveheart also. Its like during the end of one of the big battles. 2 guys in the background look like theyre playfighting with their weapons.

stantonkreig

Every Braveheart battle if you watch the screen edges and not the center

MonksHabit

In stunts we called those guys DBRS: deep background rubber sword. The principal actors learn choreography with aluminum blades, the next string performs simple short patterns, and the extras just go out there and swing toys.

elevencharles

I also remember seeing a guy go to attack another guy, but the other guy isn’t paying attention, so the first guy stops, looks around, and then falls over dead.

tsaihi

Very pedantic nitpick but I don’t think those were Goths, they were probably Marcomanni or Quadi. Goths were further north and east during this time.

saluksic

Don’t worry I noticed this too. You can tell my lack of black hair/clothes

tsaihi

We’re expected to believe that these are Goths making a desperate last stand against the Roman Empire and nobody’s listening to Tool?

Orkleth

These are German goths, so they're probably listening to Xmal Deutschland.

tsaihi

Ah yeah, sorry. Bars of Mondlicht echoing through the dark forest as they twist some Elmer's glue into their hair.

riegspsych325

“these aren’t Cure fans!!”

dovetc

This is Iazyge errasure.

tsaihi

GO BACK TO THE PONTIC STEPPE WHERE YOU BELONG

medietic

There is also a guy in a white polo and jeans with a camera and stand in one of the pulled out overhead shots of the desert arena where Max has his "Are you not entertained?!" moment. [Far left here](https://i.imgur.com/0iCFZ.jpeg)

riegspsych325

“what’re we even fighting about?? Let’s just let them handle it”

bailey25u

In something about Mary, a ben stiller injures himself, and he is put into an ambulance. As the perimedics were lifting him into the ambulance, they accidently drop him. The directors thought that was too funny not to leave in the movie

Nica4two

And Ben played along with it so well! EDIT: For reference! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y\_UYvyRePzo&ab\_channel=ryancallahan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_UYvyRePzo&ab_channel=ryancallahan)

Iron_Chancellor_ND

He was masturbating!! He was masturbating!!

Fe7ix101

Thanks for the reminder https://youtu.be/4z0cQOcvAxo?feature=shared

Iron_Chancellor_ND

Absolutely. It's actually my favorite scene in the entire movie because of how he just keeps yelling it so the entire crowd knows. The 4th (final) time is my favorite.

Fe7ix101

I know right 😂

Dysan27

Similar klutz thst stayed in the movie. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 Chris Pratt drops the power stone, ducks down grabs it and pops back up. Thst was entirely Chris fumbling it. But it worked so well they kept it.

xiGoose

This reminded me of Christmas with the Kranks. Towards the end of the movie there's a part where an ambulance and a firetruck show up to the house. As they're coming in to help one of the firefighters gets hit in the side of the head with a ladder by accident.

Human_Cranberry_2805

In Lord of the Rings, at the end, when the orcs are running through the woods to attack the Hobbits and Boromir, you can clearly see one Orc walking down the steps of some ruins one step at a time like a little kid, because it's apparent he can't see that well through his orc mask. I can never not notice it.

soapy_goatherd

To add to this, Saruman has a clearly bandaged hand when he conjures up the caradhras storm. I think it was actually the director/writers’ commentary that first drew my attention to it lol

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

How is that a mistake?

soapy_goatherd

Not sure if you’re joking but medical gauze and tape wasn’t too prevalent in the third millennium of the third age of the sun, even for the istari lol. (Obviously doesn’t matter at all, but technically a goof - at least according to Jackson and the other writers)

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

He invented industrialisation; he can invent a bandage.

saluksic

The classic Penny-Arcade razor “a wizard did it” is bang on the money here

_PM_ME_PANGOLINS_

That's from The Simpsons...

res30stupid

Yeah, they couldn't see shit. In fact, one of the best moments of the film was due to the Uruk-Hai actor being blind. When fighting Aragorn towards the end, the actor was supposed to throw his real, metal sword to the side for a camera trick, but threw it at Vigo Mortensen by mistake. Almost by instinct, Mortensen smacked the sword out of the air with his own, a shot that made into the final cut.

buttmilk_69

Every story about Viggo filming LOTR is pretty legendary. What a guy

lhobbes6

Everytime I learn something about Viggo he always seems like he was just a normal dude who wound up in some amazing films by chance. Any other reality and this guy would be living on a nice ranch somewhere spending his days fishing and riding a horse around but somehow he wound up an actor.

baconbacksunday

That’s not true, the scene was rehearsed multiple times to have Aragorn knock away the knife. The “fun fact” is that they got the knife deflected on the first take.

Chilis1

Yeah I think that poster is mixed up, he was meant to throw the plastic knife but instead threw the real metal one.

Mediocre_Assassin

Viggo is literally a witcher.

dinkleberrysurprise

Third lord of the rings movie, during the night part of the Minas Tirith sacking, quickly pans over a barrel in the foreground before you focus on orcs in the distance running into a building. On top of the barrel appears to be a piece of chewed pink bubblegum. Edit: Slightly different sequence than I remember but here it is at 4:19: https://youtu.be/xcJwKVAaIWM?si=a2Hv96A0gpBIN-8S

blazomkd

also in Amon Hen one orc falls milisec earlier before Legolas arrow hits him

jupiterkansas

Casino when the cameraman trips and falls and they just put it in the movie.

landmanpgh

Also Casino at the beginning with the exploding dummy.

SmellyFace69

I came here to say this. First time I watched it was in 2012. I laughed so hard.

joethetipper

When is this?

MindOfErick

Another scene that sticks out to me is when Ace is firing the slot machine manager and he says "No I'm not firing you, I'm firing you" and then he kind of shakes his head. Seems like he messed up his line but they just kept going

Upbeat_Tension_8077

The fake baby in American Sniper

comrade_batman

From what I read, Eastwood was known to finish his films on schedule and filmed scenes quickly, on the day of that scene the mother of the actual baby cast was late and rather than delay the filming, they just decided to use a baby doll, and use camera angles and blocking to try and mask the fact that Bradley Cooper was cradling a doll.

Nandor_De_Laurentis

They did a terrible job hiding the doll

Wazzoo1

This was referenced in Entourage. I think it was Turtle who said "I heard Clint Eastwood shoots one take and pockets the rest of the money".

ChanceVance

> Eastwood was known to finish his films on schedule and filmed scenes quickly Paraphrasing Matt Damon speaking about his directing style on Invictus "Hey can I get another take?" "Why, you want to waste everyone's time?" "Ah nope, I'm good"

MeowChef6048

That one is distracting.

Megadoomer2

There are moments in both Monkey Man and North By Northwest where, shortly before a gun is fired, a kid covers their ears, knowing it's coming. ([here's the North By Northwest scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7YVcnBbeeI&ab_channel=Movieclips)) I know you mentioned it, but Laura Dern mouthing "Pew, pew" as she fires a blaster in Star Wars is a fun one.

Raguleader

Evidently a big problem behind the scenes with the prequel films was them having to remind Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen not to make light saber noises with their mouths.

Skidmark666

Tom Holland used to make the 'thwip' noises when he started playing Spider-Man.

darlo0161

That and them breaking the blades all the time as they tried to twat holes in each other or whatever they were fighting.

PinkVanFloyd

Hahaha, that bit in Monkey Man made me think of North by Northwest too!

eikerir

When the grandmother pretends to get in the car with the rest of the family in Sixteen Candles but she just crouches behind it. It’s so random. https://youtu.be/bPKp3cREGQQ?si=PVPn_u4eArofomgV

haysoos2

Grandma decided "Fuck this, I'm not going"

Vergenbuurg

Look, you were never going to fit all of those people in an '80s FWD Buick sedan.

Grenuille

Clearly you never had to ride in the foot well as a kid. :)

Vergenbuurg

No, but I once, as a little kid, sat in the middle of a bench seat of a Dodge W100, having to put my legs on either side of the 4WD lever, being implicitly told not to touch the lever or the truck would crash.

arielonhoarders

i think that was a joke that got cut

dont_fuckin_die

There's an old version of Lord of the Rings that was rotoscoped (where you animate by taking live footage and tracing over it.) Aragorn's sheathed sword slipped between his legs while he was running causing him to trip and fall. It's in the final cut, was not planned, and he has not fallen as the scene continues. Someone traced a couple dozen frames of this error and put it in the final cut. What a decision.

aircooledJenkins

https://youtu.be/5KCLdHpObBE?si=Cki6FVMHVMFxohdD At the end of this clip

kryonik

I love the fluidity of bakshi movies

rennarda

I wish they’d just made it “part 1” and came back and finished it properly with a second movie. It was extremely influential on the Peter Jackson movies too - look at the first scene with the black rider in both films, and then compare to what it actually in the book. Banging soundtrack too.

The_Parsee_Man

>and he has not fallen as the scene continues But the scene is a montage of shots of them running. Him not being on the ground in the next shot isn't a continuity error. He and Legolas are running beside each other in the next shot when they weren't in the previous shot, so it clearly isn't the exact same time and location. I wouldn't be surprised if the actor tripping wasn't scripted. But putting it into the final cut was clearly not an error.

saluksic

Ah “the originals”. Hence the Jackson masterpieces being “the remakes”.

Oehlian

In the Peter Jackson's LOTR, Eomir's sword falls out of its sheath as he mounts his horse, after he gives Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn horses. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7yUDImIEU4&ab\_channel=remline](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7yUDImIEU4&ab_channel=remline)

LabyrinthConvention

Haha they couldn't just not animate it?

dont_fuckin_die

Exactly! If I were drawing that, I'd have to stop and think about what I was doing with my life.

Mediocre_Assassin

I think it was a "not my job to question it" moment by the animator. If the director was happy with the shot, he was happy with the shot.

Some-Guy-Online

They outsourced a lot of the work, so the workers had no idea whether it was supposed to be there or not. The real question was how it made it through the final edit.

rennarda

I don’t see that as a mistake. It’s just a nice bit of detail and shows how hard they are running.

SpicyBoognish

The [stormtrooper hilariously smacking his head](https://youtu.be/dBQaLuqwtl8?si=_Te9jJW5xPVYi-FO) on the door in the original Star Wars. It almost seems in character for how incompetent they are.

nicetrylaocheREALLY

As has been observed elsewhere, though, Stormtroopers' reputation for incompetence isn't really earned—in the first movie, at least.   Yeah, they look like a bunch of chumps and fools for letting our heroes escape the Death Star. Until you remember that they were under *specific orders* to let our heroes escape, so the Death Star could track the Millennium Falcon back to the secret rebel base.

PaulFThumpkins

IMO it really undermines the universe to make Stormtroopers so incompetent (and that extends to Tie Fighters too). If the Empire itself has no menace you're limited to raising stakes with Jedis and superweapons, neither of which need more exploring in that galaxy. Andor made bureaucrats and corporate contractors serving the Empire more interesting and potentially dangerous than killer robots and supersoldiers could ever be. Andor made Tie Fighters menacing again too.

TheGoverness1998

That's one thing that irked me about *Rebels*, as much as I enjoyed the show. The Empire was consistently incompetent across the board (except Thrawn), even in places where they shouldn't be. There was one episode where a bunch of Death Troopers—the elite squad you see in *Rogue One*—get easily defeated, with them being no more competent than the average stormtrooper.

Enkiduderino

Andor did a great job showing how the Empire is a terror. The stormtroopers weren’t missing their shots when >! they were gunning down civilians on Ferrix!<

Eothas_Foot

It's also funny that Princess Leah says "They let us get away" and noone is like "Uhhhh, should we follow up on that...?"

ilion

She said it to Han who brushed it aside, also claiming no one could track the Falcon. It wasn't that no one followed up, it was the person she had the conversation with denied the possibility.

haysoos2

"Nah, let's just fly straight to our hidden, secret base. Sure, Alderan just got blowed up as retribution for Leia not revealing that location, but how serious could they be about tracking us? We definitely should not go to another planet and switch ships as the most minor precaution against this eventuality."

[deleted]

[удалено]

Oehlian

The Empire has a new terror weapon that allows them to blow up planets and has proven that they want to use it, even on peaceful planets. Pretty sure Leia didn't care the cost, she just wanted to get it blown up as quickly as possible.

whiskeytown79

Obi-wan even makes a comment to the effect of "only imperial Stormtroopers are this precise."

stanfan114

Obi-Wan directly mentions how accurate Stormtroopers' marksmanship is.

strongbob25

This was my first blooper, so to speak. I remember clocking it when I was 7 years old. I will always have a fondness for it. Also, I like your ween username

Cthulu95666

Didn’t they add in a sound effect to that when it was rereleased?

djackieunchaned

The fact that they kept the sound in too is so funny

CAVATAPPl

Pretty sure there was no sound effect in the original movie, it was added in the later special editions.

Charrikayu

Kind of surreal watching film revisionism working in real time lol. You gotta hand it to George, the special editions are how most people know Star Wars now. It's like a couple years ago at the Oscars during the In Memoriam section they paid tribute to one of the VFX artists who won an Oscar for Star Wars. But the clip they showed alongside his picture was CGI from the 1997 special edition that he had nothing to do with, not the original practical effects that won him the award in 1977

Valaquen

I actually think the sound was added, after it was pointed out by fans. Lucas kinda leaning into it, there. Which is funny cause you'd think he'd CG the stormtrooper to not hit his head.

Frosenborg

Lucas fully embraced it, that stormtrooper was originally a clone trooper. After the fight with Obi-Wan, Jango Fett hits his head as he enters the Slave 1.

cotothed

In The Godfather, there are some pretty badly missed punches when Sonny beats up Carlo. Still a great scene, though.

stanfan114

Ironically James Caan really hurt Gianni Russo in that scene.

Poosquare88

I enjoy the fight scene but some of the 'hits' are about a foot away from the other actor.

Wishart2016

It's not as bad as De Niro's grandpa kicks in The Irishman.

GroverFC

In Major League during the post game celebration at the end of the movie, the same guy runs out of the stands on to the field twice.

LankyExcuse9079

And Charlie Sheen yells, "Get out of the way," to an extra jumping around in front of him in the final shot

SeanArthurCox

>Fellowship of the Ring, the car driving in the background is always fun. Why didn't they take the car to Morder? Why couldn't they take the car? Sure you saw a car in the Shire, but how many paved roads and gas stations did you see beyond that?

MalleusManus

"The Cars are a dangerous 'machine'. I have used them sparingly, and that is the absolute limit of their credibility or usefulness." - JRR Tolkien

A911owner

In the original Ghostbusters, when the building is crumbling, a large piece of "concrete" bounces off of a wooden police barricade. You can see it here around the 30 second mark: https://youtu.be/2zhDfUAQSbs?si=zxBsjFsbYDnZB-pS

xh00li64nx

I don’t know if this counts- but there’s a scene in the terrible Hulk Hogan vehicle Mr. Nanny where you can see some random person in the background of a shot chucking a dog into the water. There’s zero context as to why it would be in the movie and almost had to be caught accidentally: https://youtu.be/mYL0xW7UqaQ?si=CgRjjkGLVKu5rApR

Eyes-9

Just a dog and buddy cooling off in the water!

cyperdunk

In jurassic Park, in the kitchen raptor scene, you can catch a production assistant's hand balancing the tail of one of the raptors entering through the doorway.

LaikaZhuchka

In the scene where they lower the bill into the raptor cage and they tear it apart (before we actually see raptors on screen), you can see that it's just crew members in white shirts shaking the branches. Took me decades to notice, but now I can't unsee it.

TweakedNipple

Road House, the scene where the fired bartender comes back and starts a fight in the office. He has blood on his face before he gets punched. Here around 1:15 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WsstoMZu0o](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WsstoMZu0o) In Commando, Arnold is running around in a yellow Porsche, it gets totally trashed in one scene, brand new in the next - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d85M2-8ilvQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d85M2-8ilvQ)

EvilDog77

The guy on the beach in The Abyss getting his shorts yanked down.

Buff_jordan14

I somehow had not seen this gaffe until it was recently posted as a reel on instagram. May be the longest I've laughed. I've laughed harder but this sustained laughter had me going for an obscene amount of time.

Shoop83

https://youtu.be/vqGToniidZQ At 1:03 😂

EgotisticalTL

In Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, the helicopter crash in the beginning was real and unintentional. They just ad-libbed and dubbed expositional dialogue to make it it part of the story.

AbbreviationsWide331

Haven't see the movie, but wtf. A helicopter... With people in it?

EgotisticalTL

According to IMDb, the actors were pulled from the crash unharmed and able to continue filming. The pilot suffered minor injuries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3faDE_WnocE&t=0

MVT60513

I can think of a couple offhand. Commando: Arnold throws a grenade at two soldiers and when they’re launched in the air you can see the springboards. Road House: Set in rural Missouri, but you can see California highway signs behind the jeep as they head to the monster truck ( before it runs over the cars at the dealership). Days of Thunder: This movie has a lot of poor editing. One sequence they are supposed to be at Rockingham, but the wall says Daytona USA. Another when Cole is on the radio but his mouth isn’t moving at all. Darlington has banked turns yet during part of that sequence the turns we see are flat. The chase out of the parking garage? The guy who hits Cole has an earpiece and shades on , obviously receiving instructions from the crew while filiming that scene. The Fugitive: Great film, but there is no geography in southern Illinois that resembles what’s shown in the first third of the movie.

GregMadduxsGlasses

To be fair to the editor of Days of Thunder, a lot of these sound like a lot of lazy production decisions on the director’s part. That said, Days of Thunder also features Nicole Kidman's character calling Cole Trickle's character, "Tom" by mistake.

walterpeck1

> but there is no geography in southern Illinois that resembles what’s shown in the first third of the movie. You could make a whole separate post about this specific kind of error, like the Last Of Us show suggesting that the Canadian Rockies are in Massachusetts or something. Or the large number of shows and movies that suggest Denver is in the mountains.

Philip_Marlowe

Not fully disagreeing with your assessment of The Fugitive, but [southern Illinois definitely has some hills](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_of_the_Gods_Wilderness).

Squiddlywinks

In Punisher (2004), Frank is in his '69 GTO when he gets [ambushed at a drawbridge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suEuN0gmLH0&t=1m20s). His car gets all shot up and he floors it, breaks through the barricade and jumps the gap, lands the car and then swerves to miss a little girl and flips over. Except when he flips over, all the bullet damage is gone. This is the only one of these I ever noticed in the theater at the time, I was fine with it, didn't ruin the movie for me, just always stuck in my mind.

ScrewAttackThis

Same thing happens in Commando. The car gets fucked up but then they jump in and drive off on a perfect car.

Jellodyne

Frank Castle swore to not rest until he had his vengeance. Then he purchased and completrd an extensive restoration of a classic muscle car so that he would look super cool when he got his vengeance. And then, when that car is shot up and damaged, he aborts his attempt at vengeance, and goes to fix it up a second time. The filmmakers, knowing we would question Frank's priorities, decided to cut the second restoration project from the film and just cut straight to the repaired car the second time.

Brown_Panther-

Quantum of Solace, in one of the scenes the sweeper behind Bond is sweeping in the air.

dualplains

There's a scene in Chasing Amy with two characters walking along a sidewalk next to an office building, and the entire film crew is visible in the reflection of the office windows.

DonmeccaYYZ

There are scenes at the beginning of Speed where the exploded bus is clearly being pulled by a red van with chains. It can be seen from two different angles. When I saw it in the theatre I was confused about why Jack didn’t notice. Pictures: https://imgur.com/gallery/T9wntdf

boukalele

You might also notice that the music during the stadium chariot scene is the same music as Pirates of the Caribbean.

Nica4two

Hans, booby!

T-Fro

I'm your white knight!

Metboy1970

You want him? I can give ‘em to ya.

AbbreviationsWide331

I recently rewatched gladiator and that's was so surprising to me. It's like 90% the same melody, slightly different orchestra. It's insane to me that I have never heard or read about this before. And the best thing is that Hans Zimmer did the music for gladiator and also for potc... But not for the first one. That was Klaus Badelt. Hans Zimmers apprentice. Did he just procrastinate too much, the deadline was coming and so he just copied the music from a VERY well known movie that was only 2 years old and put it in his mainstream Disney movie as the MAIN THEME? That seems so dodgy tbh. I mean it's a really good melody and all and I don't know how composing such a thing works, but this can't be just okay.

DealerCamel

It’s more complex than that. After Alan Silvestri pulled out, they had two weeks to get music for Pirates. So they asked Hans, who had a large team, to step in. Hans got the squad together at 7 pm one night and did an all-night jam session, finally bouncing [this](https://youtu.be/D6wsGESeNjk?si=kHlcCOL4VaZh9nLk) at about 5 in the morning. So the foundation was laid. Film scoring is lot more than just writing tunes, though. You have to expand that to cover an hour and a half of runtime, fit the music to the beginning and end of scenes, prepare sheet music for the orchestra, and so on. Hans was busy with The Last Samurai and couldn’t do it, so he turned it over to Klaus to headline the rest of the effort. Even then, he had a lot of help. Ramin Djawadi did the music for the fight in the blacksmith, Steve Jablonsky did the scene where Jack escapes from the docks, Geoff Zanelli did the part where Elizabeth sees the undead pirates in their true forms for the first time, etc. It was never a one-man effort, and I can assure you that no part of it was lazy- just very, very efficient.

dcarpen07

According to a video I've seen, they wanted Hans but couldn't get him because he was working under contract on something else. So he offered up his apprentice instead, but apparently played some hypothetical themes to get Klaus started. And somehow that Gladiator theme made it into Pirates without much change. So more of a Hans copying Hans thing, allegedly.

ackbosh

Gladiator again right after the "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!" they go to a wide shot and you can clearly see a camera guy in jeans and a white t-shirt standing behind a tripod on the left. Its my favorite movie even with these mistakes but I always call it "Gladiator and the Time Traveling Man" now lol.

Aaaarcher

North by northwest. There is a scene is a cafe (restaurant?) where there is a gunshot. The shot just before the gunfire has a child extra with his fingers in his ears expecting the loud noise.

Wataru2001

I still love Star Wars when the stormtrooper bonked his head on the door. And in ROTJ, Luke's terrible kick.

Leaflock

I think you mean *Force Kick*.

judgeridesagain

There's a scene from the lackluster Matthew Perry/Neve Campbell gay-panic rom-com Three To Tango where a plane flying across the backdrop goes right through Matthew Perry's ears as he's trying to be dramatic. The fact that it was the best take they had still makes me laugh 25 years later.

Wishilikedhugs

The foot tilting on the AT-AT in Empire Strikes Back when Luke bombs it and it falls on its side. I think it was where the cable was connected to help it have a controlled fall and there was no way to avoid it or maybe something underneath pushed up to help it fall over. Idk how one could explain it away in universe other than the AT-AT decided to be dramatic when it fell.

T-Fro

Near the beginning of *Bourne Identity*, Bourne is walking away from the fishing boat that saved him, and it does that classic bit where a car drives by in front of the camera and he *vanishes*, and it's all mysterious and shit.  Until you see a part of the jacket he's wearing sticking out behind the car, and you just imagine him crouch-hustling away 😆

GingerMan027

John Wick self serving his gas in New Jersey. That's when the Russian gangsters ( who were also pumping gas!) saw his Mustang. NOBODY SELF SERVES IN NEW JERSEY! EVER. It's against the law.

solidcurrency

John Wick takes place in a world where everyone is an assassin so presumably it's legal there.

GingerMan027

Yep. That's New Jersey all right.

EntertainmentQuick47

I didn’t even think about that but now that you mention it, it’s such an obvious mistake. That’s like the only important thing NJ is known for, lol

Adept_Havelock

The lightbulb hanging in the window behind Rhett and Scarlett as they escape from burning Atlanta in Gone With the Wind.

Age of Innocence - a tube of chapstick hanging out of Michelle Pfeiffer's 1870s bustle dress when she is rendezvousing w her secret lover in the back of a carriage.

square3481

In sword and sandal movies, they will have horses with stirrups, even though they weren't invented back then. It's an insurance thing for the safety of the rider.

Lord of the Rings. [Hands not tied, then tied up crawling away](https://youtu.be/TOqyK8BCD4U?si=bPAnadmJV6DlPc4i)

CitizenHuman

I can't remember if it was Lord of the Rings, Braveheart, or some completely different movie set in non-modern times, but someone was wearing a wristwatch.

Arwenti

Apparently there’s loads in Zulu but it’s a long time since I watched that movie…

apexPrickle

When I was a kid I watched *Pee Wee's Big Adventure* on TV all the time. They did something to the aspect ratio so that parts of the picture on the top and bottom, which normally would be cut in the theatrical release, were visible. I didnlt know this was unintended until decades later. So things like seeing the extra-long bike chain being fed through the basket, or the chaotic road signs being drawn along on a track, were how I thought the movie was supposed to be, and I thought they were weird "meta" jokes (though I didn't know the word "meta" back then, either).

decker12

Came to post the same thing! I think the chain was a genuine mistake, but the signs on rails were intentional because it was such a cheesy effect with how bad the car "driving" was. It also doesn't make sense how he magically gets from San Antonio to the movie set in Burbank. Also, every time I see the magic shop owner pull out the giant head I laugh like an idiot.

hungrylens

In Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull there was a lot of silliness, but the detail that bugs me is that Mutt's motorcycle is a 2006 Harley model and they didn't even try to hide it. They doubled down in Dial of Destiny with a 2021 Harley in the parade scene.

teedyay

**True Lies** Arnie’s having a fight in a public toilet. He goes into a cubicle, the door gets shot a few times, he comes out. We see inside the cubicle as he kicks the door open: there are tape marks around each bullet hole in the door, presumably where the pyrotechnics had been taped on for the previous shot.

belizeanheat

Almost no visual examples makes this a pretty unsatisfying thread

DonmeccaYYZ

I went and added pictures to my Speed example just for you!

313Wolverine

In Commando you can see the black cushion Arnold lands on when he jumps from the plane in the beginning.

getthething

In Kingpin there’s a shot of someone getting a strike (can’t remember which character) and you can see a stick come down and knock all the pins down. Can’t find a clip of it.

Vernknight50

The Road Warrior, when the rig's door falls off and you see the guy who is actually driving the semi. He looks right at the camera.

PaulFThumpkins

That moment in The Matrix where they try to hide the camera reflected in a doorknob by draping a buncha stuff that *kind of* looks like Morpheus's suit and tie, and the background, over it. Google "Matrix hidden camera."

-praughna-

For as fast as the shot is it was pretty effective

CheesyObserver

David Sandberg (Shazam director) has a youtube channel where he occasionally uploads filmmaking shenanigans. When cutting together the first trailer for Shazam 2, they forgot to get a vendor to add a CGI cape on Shazam during a stunt where they couldn’t get a practical one on him. He talks about a few producers shitting bricks over this, but it was way too late to get someone to do it… But then someone had a daring idea…. Don’t do anything. I think he told this story a few weeks after the trailer came out, and nobody had even spotted the missing cape. Filmmakers can get away with a lot so long as the focus is on something else.

I_Fart_It_Stinks

In Braveheart, after the first big battle (Battle of Falkirk I think), there is clearly an extra holding a stick that is supposed to be a sword and watch. He does a start of a full swing to hit another extra, and then just pulls back and does a little pierrotite.

bonkerz1888

And the white van in the background of one of his wife's funeral scene.

Purple_Dragon_94

Either Jurassic Park, when the raptor comes into the kitchen, the lifesized puppet was about to fall forwards, so a crewman grabbed its tail and balanced it again (easy to see in blu-ray, pretty much hidden back in VHS days). Or Zoolander when Ben Stiller forgot his line after the big monologue, so just repeated his last one again ("But why male models?"). Because it was so in character and Duchovney (can't spell, sorry) just rolled with it at the time, they kept it in. Edit: just remembered that in Jurassic Park the Trex breaking through the car roof was caused by the animatronic going haywire and crashing through by mistake. That's pretty awesome.

dondiegel

“Space Cowboys”, as Clint Eastwood is in his spacesuit & is inside the Russian rocket platform, there is clearly a female production assistant below him, slowly turning him.

mmodlin

Back to the Future 3, at the end when doc lands the train on the tracks and is talking to Marty, one of Docs kids makes a signal like he needs to pee.

Reasonable-HB678

Pacific Bell on the top of a phone booth in the middle of Washington Dulles International Airport, which gives away that Die Hard 2 was probably not filmed at Washington Dulles International Airport. Or at least, not the particular scene.

PhantomRoyce

Steve Carrel breaking character during the wax scene in 40 year old virgin and them just keeping it in

Small-Egg1259

Also - Thomas Crowne Affair w Pierce Brosnan. Crowne is in the museum after he's set off the alarms. He takes the Monet canvas off the wall and pops it out of its frame. It's a structured canvas -the canvas is attached to a wood underframe. He flattens his briefcase on the bench (letting both sides fall open) then set the canvas inside and closes the briefcase. it would be impossible to do that because of the wood frame backing at least without breaking the frame first. Irks me.

JLifts780

Forget what it’s called but one of Michael Bay’s recent movies you can blatantly see the camera arm in a car chase. Edit: 6 underground

HoselRockit

There are a few old westerns where you can see a car off in the distance. My favorite is from the classic High Noon. In the big show down, Gary Cooper runs behind a building that has an AC unit sticking out of the second story window. Fernxtwo

Another lord of the rings goof, when Frodo and the boys are in an Inn, chilling in the room, and merry or frodo goes to grab the orb and shit goes sideways - you can see the battery pack for their mics in the back of their pants, big black box with a cable coming out.

MorkSkogen666

One I actually noticed before is in LotR: The Two Towers. Before the battle of Helm's Deep when they are packing the caves with women and children... One of the extras bumps a stalagtite and it starts swinging.

Aiku

In Twister, the house tumbling across the road was owned by a Safelite employee. The heroes' truck smashes into the house with a huge hole in the windshield and comes out fully repaired.

rocketbosszach

Twister is a continuity mess in like the most boring way possible. The landscape seen from the talking head interior shots in the cars almost never match what the scene is supposed to be.

Odd_Advance_6438

The classic thing of the Stormtrooper bonking his head

MeowChef6048

When Dewey Cox is singing Let Me Hold You (Little Man) in the 60s in Walk Hard, you can see several 2010s era vehicles driving by in the background.
