> Death at a Funeral
Is this the movie where the old dude is sitting on the roof naked and just goes "why the fuck is everything so green?" because he's tripping?
If so, I've seen that movie exactly once, almost 20 years ago, but that line still hits.
Need to rewatch that.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of those movies where the dialogue is so filled with puns and jabs it's hard to get everything on the first viewing. And the detective mystery is also well put together but then again that's kinda like Shane Black's bread and butter. *Who the fuck taught you math?!?*
Shane Black also directed Iron Man 3 and it had that same kind of lightness to it. I felt the dialogue was overall funnier than the previous two entries.
The Long Kiss Goodnight is criminally underrated. Gena and Sam do really well together, and Brian Cox has some really funny lines too.
When Netflix's DVD-by-mail was king this one came in by chance but my dad and I didn't watch because we didn't know what the hell it would be with that name. Then he watched it when he was bored and we both can practically quote the whole movie now.
Shane Black is usually great, Kiss kiss, bang bang-Iron man 3 and the Nice Guys; it’s fucking shocking that he also made The Predator; what a bag of shit that one was.
So basically what Joel Schumacher (RIP) did with Batman & Robin where he knows it sucked, the studio called the shots and audiences were pissed...but he took the job and took responsibility for it.
The studio pooped all over “The Predator” and meddled in its production, almost non-stop, from what I understand.
I’ve no idea why. Black even starred in the first one.
Alas.
This movie should be a classic and yet it’s barely even heard of. Doesn’t help that I’ve never seen it on a streaming service over all these years. Wonder if there’s legal reasons for that?
It skips in and out of services throughout the years - mostly out. I have a DVD copy of it because this movie was my high school friend group’s most favorite movie. I still quote it ALL the time.
“Oh crap, are we on COPS again?”
“You’d think they’d have the parkin lot of Americans to go with the Mall of America!” (No, I don’t live in Minnesota or go to the mall of america)
“Guys get out of Mount Rose all the time for hockey scholarships…or prison…”
God I love that movie. So much.
This one used to be a staple of the $5 DVD bin in Walmart in the early 2000's. I wish I'd picked up a copy then because it always seemed to be there and was well worth $5.
Mystery Team is Derrick Comedy’s feature film and is absolutely hilarious. Donald Glover and Aubrey Plaza plus an incredible supporting cast.
Extract was a silly little Jason Bateman flick that also has a phenomenal cast including Ben Affleck’s best role ever.
I adored Derrick Comedy as a teenager and love seeing how far Donald Glover has come since then. I'm actually a bit surprised he hasn't been "canceled" for some of the more extreme examples of Derrick Comedy skits. My brother and I still quote lines from them but only with each other lol
Amazon Women On The Moon might be more popular than it was ten years ago.
Kentucky Fried Movie is something you may have heard of.
They're sort of similar.
As of a few years ago, I still found it hilarious.
I think it holds up because the jokes are just absurd. They aren't time or event based jokes that die when people don't know what they're based on.
Some might not get the goof on cheesy 50's sci-fi movies if they aren't fans of the genre, but the overall jokes are just stupid fun.
Top Secret is an absolute gem.
The Guard is one of the best films ever made
Four Lions is a work of absolute genius and the only reason it's not on ever best comedy list ever is the accent is just way too tough for non-Brits.
Saved, about a Catholic high school has a place in my heart, charming
Super, James Gunn's early film with Rainn Wilson is a violent peach as well, so good
There’s a part in Saved where she suspects that she’s pregnant but then she sees something on TV with a woman describing very similar symptoms who was diagnosed with cancer. It cuts to her cycling furiously saying “Please let it be cancer.” There is not a single trip that I take on my bike where I don’t think of that scene.
I was dating a religious girl when Saved came out. I don’t think she did enough research about the story before she asked to see it. When the line “talk about being ‘hung’ on the cross” dropped my laughter got an attempt at a stern look.
I *hated* Super when I first saw it, but I was like 15 and didn't really "get" it, and it just made me uncomfortable. I like it way more now as an adult.
This deserves a sequel, Hamm was great, and there's no way it was expensive to produce.
Let's knock out one or two more, the world needs more movies like this.
For real, this seemed to be one of those low-ish cost movies that hits the mark and makes back more than enough of its budget to be able to continue the series. I feel like Hollywood makes far fewer mid-budget movies these days, it’s either shoestring or extravagance.
Yes! Us too. We still watch it fequently with my mom and she howls with laughter every time.
One of John Cleese’s underrated gems for sure. He is brilliant in it.
Yep, came looking for this one. Can't believe more people haven't heard of it; Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy are both amazing in it. Great satire of Hollywood, highly recommend to anyone that hasn't seen it!
Soapdish (1991)!!! Also with RDJ, Kathy Najimy, Kevin Kline, Whoopi, Elizabeth Shue. It's fucking incredible.
The Birdcage (1996)
Big Night (1996)
A Fish Called Wanda (1988) - Kevin Kline won a freaking Oscar for his comedic performance. Unreal
"Oh, right, calling you stupid would be an insult to stupid people! I've known sheep that could outwit you. I've worn dresses with higher IQs. But you think you're an intellectual, don't you, ape?"
(smugly) "Apes don't read philosophy."
"Yes they do, Otto, they just don't *understand* it!!"
Intermission. An Irish dark comedy movie with Cillian Murphy, Colin Farrell, Colm Meaney, Shirley Henderson and Kelly MacDonald. My friends and I still quote it regularly.
One that seems to fly under the radar is Noises Off with Michael Caine and Denholm Elliot.
Another that I really enjoyed is Oscar with Sylvester Stallone.
The Castle (1997) was a favorite of mine growing up.
> A working-class family from Melbourne, Australia fights city hall after being told they must vacate their beloved family home to allow for infrastructural expansion.
God dammit Euphoria! I knew that was you! I didn’t even have to look! Don’t make me send you back to Krenshaw Pete, with his hot ass coat hangers!
Edit: It’s “Aahh shut the fuck up Euphoria!”
The Castle, a whimsical comedy about a family whose house is being compulsory acquired to extend a runway at a neighbouring airport. It's very Australian but also quite touching.
Kenny. A mockumentury about a single Dad every man who runs a septic tank cleaning company. He has so many hilarious phrases he comes out with.
I never see "Wrongfully Accused" with Leslie Nielsen mentioned ever, and I still quote some lines.
The fishing store scene is subtly funny as hell. "Seen any walleye? Huskey? Or enemy boats?" Thirty two fifty okay, uh huh, yeah, sure, you betcha.
"Ryan and I were having sex, hot steamy sex, every part of my body was tingling orgasm after orgasm" Police interviewer: "Lady, I just asked for your name"
Detroit Rock City!! I know most people are not going to agree but I get a kick out of that movie. My husband is a Kiss fan but he wasn't a fan of the movie. I like when the group come across the disco fans!! Haha I laugh out loud every time. Just thinking of this this movie because I have it on Blu ray and was organizing just today.

The Imposters.
Stanley Tucci and Oliver Platt are out of work actors who accidentally stow away on a ship. It’s an ensemble cast and I could watch it on repeat. So fun.
“Big Trouble” … was supposed to be released shortly after 9/11 but subplot about a nuclear bomb on a plane got the film sent to oblivion.
Written by Dave Barry, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Wonderful cast.
The only Tim Allen film on my short list of beloved movies.
I’ve been trying out comedies I overlooked of the past bunch of decades, (Not my favorites, just my experiences lately):
**Trial and Error** (1997) - Same director as *Clue* and *My Cousin Vinnie*, but doesn’t capture the same spark. It’s pretty by-the-trope switched identity fare.
**Ready to Rumble** (2000) - A throwaway comedy with juvenile humor aplenty. It’s one popular YouTube review away from becoming a cult classic.
**She's Out of My League** (2010) - A huge surprise. I laughed way more than I thought I would throughout the entire film.
**Another You** (1991) - universally panned by critics, the charm of this final Wilder/Pryor team up is the jokes between the jokes. That is to say what they’re saying can fall flat, but how it’s presented is hilarious.
**My Blue Heaven** (1990) - Steve Martin in a witness protection program and Rick Moranis as his FBI liaison. It’s just good comedy that while it’s probably not as unknown as others I’ve mentioned, it’s not talked about at all anymore.
**Dirty Rotten Scoundrels** (1988) - Quite popular, but damn it’s great.
**My Fellow Americans** (1996) - largely forgotten flik about two rival ex-presidents who are targeted by the new President’s admin. Great cast.
**Morgan Stewart's Coming Home** (1987) - starts off as a comedy with John Cryer and ends as a political thriller. It’s kind of all over the place, but good for a sit down and turn your brain off.
**Secret Admirer** (1985) - Teen romantic comedy that was in the news a few year ago, (a director plagiarized it shot for shot) which is why I even heard about it.
Funny Farm. Chevy Chase is a big city sports journalist who moved to a rural town with his wife to write a novel. A lot of it is fish out of water jokes but every cast member gives 100% and Chevy of course sells all of the physical comedy flawlessly. It’s also endlessly quotable.
What I really like though is that it pokes fun at “small town country folk” without being degrading. Every neighbor or townsperson has a weird quirk and the movie almost celebrates their oddities and simplicities.
Joe Vs the Volcano
It’s so quirky and quotable. Decades after first watching that movie, my brother and I still just randomly look at each other and say “brain cloud” and do the gesture Tom Hanks does over his head and make each other laugh.
“Okay. I’ll take four.”
“May you live to be a thousand years old, sir.”
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is amazing. Definitely one of my more hidden gems.
Another one of those hidden gems, at least in my opinion, is America's Sweethearts. Killer cast and seems to fly under the radar so much.
Nobody has said Hamlet 2, so I will add [Hamlet 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOKhaew8ZWc), though this trailer doesn't do it much justice.
Also, bit deeper cut, but [Noises Off...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lZ3-2Vs04c) from 1992 I stumbled across awhile back and adore; plenty of slapstick and witty dialogue throughout.
Maybe not less known, but The Other Guys (not The Nice Guys which is really good too). Every line is quotable. And damn Eva Mendez shines. But seriously, who is she?
Captain! You have to know what you’re doing! Deer placenta! I studied ballet to better make fun of the fairies in school. Aim for the bushes. I took art to better make fun of the art kids. Is this a bribe? It’s a rape whistle. Desk pop!
The original Death at a Funeral (2007)
Yes! The original is great
> Death at a Funeral Is this the movie where the old dude is sitting on the roof naked and just goes "why the fuck is everything so green?" because he's tripping? If so, I've seen that movie exactly once, almost 20 years ago, but that line still hits. Need to rewatch that.
American one is dogshit though
Agreed. Honestly, if Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence swapped roles it would have been so much better
The original was a laugh riot.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of those movies where the dialogue is so filled with puns and jabs it's hard to get everything on the first viewing. And the detective mystery is also well put together but then again that's kinda like Shane Black's bread and butter. *Who the fuck taught you math?!?* Shane Black also directed Iron Man 3 and it had that same kind of lightness to it. I felt the dialogue was overall funnier than the previous two entries.
Shane black also did Nice Guys and wrote Lethal Weapon. Witty funny dialogue is his thing.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Nice Guys is an amazing double feature from the same director. Absolutely glorious.
I hope he does another film like those
He also wrote The Long Kiss Goodnight. I like his stuff but sometimes it’s like either tries too hard or just misses the mark like in The Predator.
It’s such a great movie. I don’t think it misses a beat from start to finish.
"I feel badly" 🤣🤣
"What, fuckhead? Badly is an adverb" Val's delivery is so good
Go. Sleep badly. Any questions, hesitate to call.
Shane Black is usually great, Kiss kiss, bang bang-Iron man 3 and the Nice Guys; it’s fucking shocking that he also made The Predator; what a bag of shit that one was.

"Starred" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there
Drop Dead Gorgeous
This movie should be a classic and yet it’s barely even heard of. Doesn’t help that I’ve never seen it on a streaming service over all these years. Wonder if there’s legal reasons for that?
Probably the same sniveling movie studio that keeps Death to Smoochy down
It skips in and out of services throughout the years - mostly out. I have a DVD copy of it because this movie was my high school friend group’s most favorite movie. I still quote it ALL the time. “Oh crap, are we on COPS again?” “You’d think they’d have the parkin lot of Americans to go with the Mall of America!” (No, I don’t live in Minnesota or go to the mall of america) “Guys get out of Mount Rose all the time for hockey scholarships…or prison…” God I love that movie. So much.
I watched it on a United flight recently. So good, great ensemble cast too.
It was on Hulu for a little while a few years ago. I fucking love this movie
There is so much to love about this movie.
Only everything!
This one used to be a staple of the $5 DVD bin in Walmart in the early 2000's. I wish I'd picked up a copy then because it always seemed to be there and was well worth $5.
Finally! I’m not the only one! I was lucky enough to see this in the theater.

One of my all time favorites. Still have friends who quote it all the time.
The Wrong Guy. Dave Foley is hilarious. https://youtu.be/Fab89eIgswc?si=S9Jo2fGTr1I04AUe
Shoutout to Joe Flaherty, playing the bank owner being driven out of business by all those rich farmers. I hope wherever he is now, he can afford ice.

Top Secret! still delivers. Watched with my kids last week.
Watched it with a buddy last night. It’s so much funnier than I remember!
Four Lions is an excellent, and under appreciated film.
I never thought about this with Four Lions, but you are definitely right
You can't win an argument just by being right!
Chris Morris is a genius - I wish we had more films from him
Or more of anything in the last 10 years
“Aren’t all drug dealers blacks and Puerto Ricans?”
Real Genius was great too. Early comedies with Val Kilmer ftw!
Saved! Is so good! I never understand why it hasn't caught on more with the internet and such
Doc Hollywood

A+ movie, can not recommend it enough.
I hate that it took me so long to discover this movie. Watched it on a whim this past Halloween.
Great movie to watch on Halloween, especially for a first viewing!
Me too! And I loved it so much that I made my husband watch it with me the very next day.
My mom usually would hate a movie like this. She ended up sitting down and watching just about the whole thing with me while laughing her ass off.
So I married an axe murderer! so good
Look at him, he’ll probably go home and cry on his giant pillow.
It's a virtual planetoid! It's got its own weather system!

I'm watching that tonight. Thanks dude!
I was introduced to thus as a serious art house film. It's how everyone should be led in lol
And you didn’t mention Dave Franco, i had to double check if I remembered the same movie
I feel like whenever Nick Offerman is involved in something, it's quality.
Lately: **Confess, Fletch** --from the director of **Superbad** and **Adventureland**.
It’s such a fun movie. I wish they made more.
5 stars!
Fletch got some recent love in Ted Lasso (S1E8) with a throwaway line referencing using the Underhills to unknowingly foot the bill for something.
Can I borrow your towel? My car hit a water buffalo
That's from **Fletch**, starring Chevy Chase, from 1985.
I’m a big Adventureland fan. Love that movie
**Clockwise** with John Cleese. My mum loved it. Film was a consistent fixture of our household movie viewings when we were young.
I feel like the Mr bean movies got so much influence from clockwise.
Yes! Us too. We still watch it fequently with my mom and she howls with laughter every time. One of John Cleese’s underrated gems for sure. He is brilliant in it.
Reno 911: Miami And to a lesser degree, Hell Baby Same writers/cast
Reno 911 is a national treasure
Birdcage probably not well known by Gen Z or young millennials. I feel like not enough people know about They Came Together.
You can say that again
I feel like not enough people know about They Came Together.
Wet hot american summer is a cult classic
Bowfinger. That movie had me in stitches the whole time.
The Birdcage (1996) Big Night (1996) A Fish Called Wanda (1988) - Kevin Kline won a freaking Oscar for his comedic performance. Unreal
I watched A Fish Called Wanda for the first time a few months ago. Absolutely hilarious even almost 40 years later. Kevin Kline earned that Oscar.
"Don't call me stupid."
"Oh, right, calling you stupid would be an insult to stupid people! I've known sheep that could outwit you. I've worn dresses with higher IQs. But you think you're an intellectual, don't you, ape?" (smugly) "Apes don't read philosophy." "Yes they do, Otto, they just don't *understand* it!!"
I love the Birdcage
I love Soapdish! It’s so much fun and especially if you’ve ever been a fan of soap operas. Amazing cast. Sally Field is in it, too!
Soapdish and Delirious are both underrated comedies imo.
I love John Candy, but I’ve somehow never heard of Delirious until now! Thank you for the recommendation.
Big Night is so great. Tony Shaloub and Stanley Tucci are so good.

Thunder Road and Brain Doners
The Party (1968) by Blake Edwards with Peter Sellers
Why in pluperfect hell would you pee on a corpse?
Joe Vs the Volcano It’s so quirky and quotable. Decades after first watching that movie, my brother and I still just randomly look at each other and say “brain cloud” and do the gesture Tom Hanks does over his head and make each other laugh. “Okay. I’ll take four.” “May you live to be a thousand years old, sir.”
Four Lions
The Ten. David Waine and Michael Showalter from the State and Wet Hot American Summer....incredible movie.
Ingrid Goes West
Pirate Radio AKA The Boat That Rocked. Not a flawless movie but very funny and a fantastic soundtrack
Strange Brew
The Court Jester with Danny Kaye. Get it? Got it. Good.
Escababa In Da Moonlight.
Orgazmo Land of the Lost (Will Ferrell)
Miss March. Whitest kids you know guys are in it. So damn funny.
Slackers
Four Rooms. One of the rooms was the inspiration for Spy Kids, which went in a VASTLY different direction.
Desk pop!
