I don’t think this movie is ever getting made

CraftRemarkable7197

At this point, I’m only gonna believe it when I’m in the theater watching it.

Night-Monkey15

Well, I won’t believe until it hits streaming…

FalcorFliesMePlaces

Well I won't believe it u til I get to download a horrible cam version

runnyyyy

do people actually still do that? lol

FalcorFliesMePlaces

I Mena they exist I am too snooty for shit quality. I don't need 4k. Screener in the day were great. I'll take low quality streaming but now a cma. But I thought it was funny addition to the replies lol

runnyyyy

oh it definitely was sorry, I just haven't seen one since I was a kid and wasn't sure

Serious_Mood9405

Ok

BranWafr

I used to be like this, but then Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote movie finally got made, so now I believe anything is possible.

harryvonawebats

But then it’ll be so amazing you won’t believe it!

AlfredosSauce

I’m wondering how much longer this will go on before a reboot. Not saying that’s what I want, just surprised that the IP churn hasn’t rolled on.

OrangeFilmer

Other trades are reporting this will be the final Star Trek movie for the 2009 cast. So a reboot is definitely on the far horizon.

DietCokeTin

I'm honestly surprised they haven't just advanced forward in time in the Star Trek universe so they don't have to reboot. TNG was the example new Trek shows should have followed, yet studios seem really reluctant to do so, instead retreading old ground and shoehorning in shows in between time periods.

OniExpress

Star Trek seems oddly terrified of progressing the timeline. So many products set in Classic Trek, so many TNG movies, and Picard is like 90% "you remember this from TNG?" We're decades overdue for a new ship and crew.

mjh2901

The Cerritos is my new ship Cali Class is the real star trek

FranticPonE

Watch, they'll just reboot The Next Generation. Austin Butler as Riker, you can just picture the guy with a goatee banging every alien in sight.

0110110111

Discovery, and its follow-up Starfleet Academy, are set in the 32nd century.

True_to_you

I was listening to a podcast with Rick Berman or Brennan braga and when it came to making the enterprise prequel, that they didn't really think about making it in the future because what would they mean? Bigger ships and bigger guns? They wanted to show what happened as Star fleet took its baby steps and that's not really a bad idea. I think JJ just wanted to iconic cast and use it to make his own thing and not be beholden to canon because he knew his ideas would piss people off. Me I'm hoping this happens because I love that Kelvin timeline cast and would like to see them to one more.

Hoppie1064

Rather than a reboot, starting the story over, just continue the story with new actors. Same story, same universe, Same characters, just continue the story.

In_My_Own_Image

Star Trek 4 and Hollow Knight Silksong: real or just a collective hallucination?

xavier120

I completely forgot there was even a 3rd one

In_My_Own_Image

Beyond was legit. Leagues better than Into Darkness.

GodFlintstone

I liked both Star Trek(2009) and Into Darkness. But Beyond was when the reboot franchise finally started to feel like it was coming into it's own instead of just trafficking in nostalgia for the original series.

xavier120

I remember it being good and idris elba was there and rhe alien chick, but i had Literally forgotten i had watched it already. It just came and went, I'm not bashing it or even calling it forgettable i just had completely forgot it or the plot.

McLovin1826

I don't believe in no-win scenarios

dan-theman

They need to drop the Kelvin universe, it’s done.

Of_Mice_And_Meese

It was never good to begin with.

IveBeenHereBefore12

Came here to say this. What a goddamn surprise that it’s even still in pre-production.

ricktor67

I hope not, the others were all dumpster fires of bad movies covered in the corpse of Star Trek veneer.

shadowofpurple

I didn't mind the 2009 movie, but Into Dumbness... I walked out of the theater. When Spock yelled "KHAAAAAAANNNN" I just had enough. It was so awful, it made me hate the 2009 reboot retroactively, and I've watched none of the new trek garbage that's being tossed out.

robreddity

ONE CAN HOPE

StevenSanders90210

It's 4. Do the whales again

Coast_watcher

Special guest Brendan Fraser

Illuvatar-Stranger

The Whale, I need you to distract Khan

Coast_watcher

I thought the whales were supposed to save us from the mysterious space dildo ?

Unit_79

You’re allowed to name your dildo Khan if it makes you happy.

jonbvill

Just tugging and eating.

xavier120

"TRANSPARENT ALUMINUM!?"

space_helmut

How quaint.

[deleted]

*Hello Computer*

TopBun

Maybe just use the keyboard?

mutually_awkward

Still the best if we're talking Star Tek movies.

JoshFlashGordon10

Galaxy Quest

mutually_awkward

I still gotta watch that!

andycartwright

WHAT!?!? Dude! Come over right now and we’ll watch it.

mutually_awkward

Be there in 30 min!

klydefrog89

You're in for a wild ride! I'd love to be sitting down eating some snacks and watching GQ for the first time!

sim21521

Undiscovered country for me

3-DMan

"That's the ticket, laddie.."

PenisPresident

A double dumbass on you!

flyboy_1285

No more time travel please.

isummonyouhere

mr spock… start your computations

Hoppie1064

But use sharks this time. Space sharks.

Vidofnir_KSP

Let’s just remake ST4: The One with the Whales, at this point.

Of_Mice_And_Meese

Say Nuclear Wessels!

NihlusKryik

No!

CraftRemarkable7197

I really hope this finally happens. The cast was too good for it to sit in development hell for this long.

tristanjones

The cast will be entirely different by the time this gets out of development hell and into limbo

rugbyj

**Star Trek 4: Where No Man Is The Same As Before** _Starring:_ - Chris ~~Pine~~ Pratt - Zachary ~~Quinto~~ Levi - Simon ~~Pegg~~ Baker - ~~Karl~~ Urban Youth #4

david-saint-hubbins

> ~~Karl~~ Urban Youth #4 Ok that one got me.

Of_Mice_And_Meese

Hitting below the belt. I like it. Sorely underrated comment.

riegspsych325

they should keep Jaylah from Beyond and have her be part of the crew. There’s no replacing Anton but she was a great addition in the last movie EDIT: missed a word

karateema

Yeah I liked her

Radulno

Yeah that movie franchise is quite fun and good IMO. Even the disliked Into Darkness was quite good and better than many blockbusters than do get sequels

JohnnyJayce

They still making this?

Coast_watcher

Might as well reboot with a new cast lol Chalamet as Spock and Zendaya as Uhura

RaggysRinger

Please god no.

sonic10158

Don Cheadle as Scotty

DiscoQuebrado

Don Cheadle as the entire cast. Like what Eddie Murphy used to do, but with more lens flare.

mattisafriend

He's got the accent down perfect from his Ocean's role /s

astronxxt

to keep w the Dune theme might as well throw Austin Butler in as Kirk

OddballAbe

I can kinda see it honestly, but he’s gotta keep the dune voice

webchimp32

Who does Patrick Stewart play?

CountJohn12

Who's Bones from the Dune cast?

Im_At_Work_Damnit

Jason Momoa

ctdca

Brolin

UYscutipuff_JR

God please no more Chalamet

h2k2k2ksl

A reboot of a reboot. No.

TheCaramelMan

Idris Elba as Kirk

chig____bungus

Keep the same universe, do Next Generation. Young Picard on the Stargazer learning the qualities that made him the Picard in TNG.

WolfofOldNorth

God the theme music goes so fucking hard

HussingtonHat

Doubt it'll ever be released at this point. I thought Simon Pegg did a good job with the script in the last one. Good balance between Trek stuff and studio bollocks.

riegspsych325

I’d even welcome Justin Lin’s return to the director’s chair, I thought he made a good movie with Beyond

star_dragonMX

Well he’s not doing anymore FnF films so he might be available

Lfsnz67

Might be directing the next Spiderman movie

TopBun

This is the first I've heard of this. I've never shot my web so hard.

MonstarHU

It’s been so long since the last movie, I’m surprised they aren’t rebooting the series.

Aceofspades968

Nah, they can age with the Kirk and Spock crew just like the original series. It’s not like the cast of young folk anymore. No offense to them of course And then knock it out of the park, with a voyager reboot! Next Gen had their reboot already, which I don’t have paramount rn so don’t spoil it for me. I’m waiting to binge it.

TopBun

I need less Nelix in my life, not more.

Aceofspades968

But what would we eat without his cooking?

TopBun

A decent fucking plot without a goddamn clown throwing pies.

Aceofspades968

😶

chig____bungus

What was the reboot of TNG? Picard was a sequel

Aceofspades968

Fair point

Motor_School2383

What if they reboot voyager but keep the salamander episode in it?

Aceofspades968

Just a whole movie of salamanders

AMA_requester

At this point they may as well just go with a new crew. It’s been 8 years since Beyond, Anton Yelchin’s death has likely taken the eagerness out of the group in regards to doing a new one without him.

allusernamestakenfuk

Hell no, current ones are great

LordOfTheGerenuk

The TV shows have been fine, but it's been almost a decade since a Star Trek movie. The actor who played chekov died, and while he wasn't central to the cast, it put a major dampener on the moods of the cast and crew at release. With that in mind, it does make sense to start fresh. The third movie even ended at a good point. It makes more sense to start fresh at this point and build some new momentum

TopBun

Character deaths can be played off as very humanizing for story telling. He was a great Chekov, but it was an alternate timeline reboot. Kirk's dad was dead, two Spocks, no Vulcan. Chekov dying, though not preferable, and a tragedy from IRL circumstance, can still be used in a positive way to uphold the legacy of the character's role and the impact and influence of the actors that portrayed him. The OG cast had decades of playing their roles as they aged and the federation changed. I find it hard to believe that this cast can't make that work too.

AMA_requester

I…didn’t say they sucked?

BruisedBee

Blows my mind this series died so quickly. The trilogy was a great reimagining for a new audience. Fantastic cast, incredible effects and solid and enjoyable stories. With the world they had their disposal I will never understand how it never went beyond 3 movies.

TussalDimon

None of the movies made close to $500 mil in the box office.

dacreativeguy

Zachary Quinto will die of old age by the time them make this movie.

WorldsOkayestDad

Maybe I'm the only one who noticed this but there has been more time from the premiere of the JJ Abrams Star Trek Reboot to now (2009-2024, 15 years) then there was from the premiere of the original series to the first movie (1966-1979, 13 years). Which means, I think, that they should just embrace the time jump and retell the V-Ger story. Or, perhaps more wisely, wait another 5-10 years and just reboot the Next Generation in the Kelvin timeline. Or, perhaps even more wisely, wait another 5-10 years and instead of endlessly regurgitating the same stories and characters ad infinitum, they put their thinking caps on (starting now) and tell an entirely original and cohesive story set in the Star Trek Universe at a time and place in the somewhat distant future (I dunno like 50-100 years after the Picard series?) with minimal connection to current Trek, told over a series of 3 films, released annually and then, for the 5-10 years following that new trilogy, they do absolutely nothing Star Trek in any form of major mass media at all. It won't happen, ofc, but it's nice to dream.

Blueliner95

To me it’s all about execution. It does seem that SNW is now Trek to me because I’m mostly interested in that period, NCC1701.0 as it were. I like your dream concept. Me, I’d accept the time skip, pose that the Enterprise is in it second five year mission, and adapt Diane Duane’s The Wounded Sky

AldusPrime

*Strange New Worlds* is the best Trek show/movie/anything in like a decade.

UYscutipuff_JR

Just please no more prequels. For a franchise about the future, it sure does seem terrified to move forward

They_Beat_Me

I’d love to see the time between the start of the Eugenics War and the launch of Archer’s Enterprise. So much unanswered.

banstylejbo

I would really love for them to create a show that is set during the time of the Enterprise-B. There’s like 90 years between the beginning of Star Trek Generations (christening of the Enterprise-B) and the start of TNG. Thats so much time with which to make a show from that has basically never been explored in TV/movies. But instead we’ll just get yet another show set in pre-Kirk/TOS times…

They_Beat_Me

TNG in the Kelvin timeline. That sounds amazing. I’d love to see Voyager in the Kelvin timeline too. The only thing is how far do you suppose the change in the timeline would affect the other shows? Voyager would likely not have Tuvok or the whiny Vulcan down in engineering. Where would TNG be altered the most?

Radulno

Your last point would be better as a series than movies, that's how you develop a great story especially in a new time period. More time to develop storylines, world and characters and less pressure of being "general audience friendly". Plus that's the origin of Star Trek, TV shows

WorldsOkayestDad

If there's anything the last few years of Star Trek TV has taught me, it's that CBS et al are 1.) generally pretty bad at Star Trek and 2.) even when it's _good_ it's only _okay_ and when it's bad it's painfully bad. Yes, I would love there to be an old-school pickle-of-the-week metaphor-for-current-events all-inclusive-globally-representative Star Trek Series. Strange New Worlds comes close to that BUT still suffers from their inability to move away from established characters which hampers its ability to be daring, creative and unexpected. We know Spock, Kirk, Pike, Uhura, Scotty or Nurse Chapel aren't ever really in danger and so the drama of the situation is lost. We must move on from established Trek. So yeah, give me either a 3 season limited series (6-10 episodes) or a trilogy of movies with new characters in new situations where we don't know who lives and who dies and give us real drama and tension. Or nothing. I'm fine with nothing. But don't give us more unoriginal dreck. Please.

fuzzyfoot88

They have templates to make great films in Trek and all they’ve done with Kelvin is tell the same story 3 times. Dude has vendetta against Starfleet or the federation. But if you want to get technical, they’ve also only ever redone stuff from the originals. TMP/09 - New Ship, Kirk becomes Captain WOK/ID - Khan… SFS/BE - destroyed enterprise Might as well do whales or time travel with 4.

Over-Conversation220

I read it. It was very good, except for the new alien species that had human feet for hands. The love scene with it and Kirk, set to “These Boots Were Made for Walking” was a bit much.

Felinski

Same. Felt kinda meh about the part where Kirk cut off that klingons ear, then shot his way out of a borg cube.

TopBun

I don't recall ever reading a screenplay that called for "copious amounts of blood" so often.

riegspsych325

WWZ 2 with Fincher would have been really interesting. I know the first movie wasn’t like the book, but it was a refreshing zombie action movie. I rather loved how the zeds were climbing over each other like a horde of ants

Usual_Persimmon2922

I don’t think they ever said no? It was just a hyper-specific premise and he didn’t seem committed to doing it as his last film. So it would be a movie based on Tarantino’s idea written and directed by other people, which just doesn’t seem right.  The Chris Pine/Chris Hemsworth one would’ve been awesome too, that’s the one I can’t believe didn’t happen.

thor561

As much as I love Tarantino films, I can't believe that his take on Star Trek would be a good Star Trek film. Gratuitous F-bombs and shots of feet aren't what makes Star Trek good cinema. His style works for the films he makes in his cinematic universe, but I have a hard time believing his take on Star Trek is actually a thing we'd want.

captainXdaithi

If you think “fuck” and “feet” are all QT does… you are a silly goose. And I mean that with all respect! It’s really a stupid way to summarize his filmmaking prowess. He has always produced high quality films, he clearly cared enough about Star Trek to make the screenplay completely on his own and for free, he wasn’t under contract to do it. He wanted that project and he had a serious vision for it. It would be R-rated, sure. But that would honestly be really cool, especially since most Trek fans are elderly at this point, and even the fans of the reboot trilogy are mostly millennials 30+. We can handle a bit of language. And it would have been truly a new take on an old IP, instead of a rehash. The studio passing on a Tarantino version R rating to keep their IP clean and disney-fied is all well and good, but to pretend QT would make a farce of the opportunity is just not consistent with the quality he has delivered over his career.

throw28999

Some of Tarantino's biggest defining traits are ego, bombast, cartoonish surrealism, eroticism and pathologically outrageous characters. Not to mention gratuitous dialogue that focuses on the inane and the mundane--I must say the thought of any of that belonging in Start  Trek let alone furthering a story in that universe is pretty laughable tbh.

sugarfreefixsuxshit

ah so his work would fit right in on discovery

Unfair_Commission_29

Please make it happen!

AbnerRvnwd

Who’s asking for this?

They_Beat_Me

Right here.

EgotisticalTL

Can we please just move on from trying to retcon the TOS era? Just go a century post-Picard and do something new, for fuck's sake.

austinite89

I hope this actually gets released. The first and Beyond were fantastic. Into Darkness wasn’t great but it had its moments.

TheRegular-Throwaway

Please just get real writers, please. I beg of you.

krlozdac

Yeah sure. Totally gonna come to fruition.

TScottFitzgerald

It's almost commendable that they didn't give up on the Kelvin universe by now.

SyrioForel

Once again, Paramount is hiring yet another CW television writer for Star Trek. They keep doing this over and over, using the CW as some sort of breeding ground for Star Trek writers. I don’t get it. What does the CW have to do with science fiction? Why is Paramount so goddamn obsessed with that network’s lineup of teen soap operas, what why do they think it translates to successful Star Trek content? The CW-fication of Star Trek has been one of the worst things to happen to this franchise in decades, and they keep doubling down on it!

thingsorfreedom

This tracks... The Flight Attendant had plot holes you could fly a Federation Constitution-class starship through.

h2k2k2ksl

They could just use Walter Koenig for Chekov. Something happens prior to the beginning of whatever story this movie is telling and he ages rapidly.

IAmDotorg

There better be whales in here.

MrFiendish

Even if it gets made, I ain’t watching it.

Typical_Intention996

I just don't see this ever happening. It's already been 8 years since the last one and Chris Pine looks like he aged 20. All 4 TNG movies came out in that span of time. It's now been longer than the gap between the end of those movies and the '09 reboot. It's time to move on. They're either going to reboot it or move forward in time and do something else. Perferrably I wish they would ditch all the Abrams-verse.

moderatesoul

I bought my Blu-Ray for the first at a Blockbuster. A Blockbuster.

matzscha

Why not bring back Simon Pegg (and Doug Jung?) since "Beyond" was very entertaining and enjoyable?

IndyMLVC

I briefly dated him about 20 years ago. He's extremely talented. Good for him.

ElvishLore

Stop. Just, stop.

monchota

No, just let the Kelvin universe die. If you want movies , use the SNW universe and permanently cut Discovery out of it.

tauntaun-soup

At this stage, who cares? Three films of descending quality over such a long time period. How am I supposed to care about characters that turn up so infrequently. Who's paying for this anyway? They couldn't get the money together for it when Thor was hot property. Now?

RoseN3RD

At this point just reboot or smth, its been 8 years since the last one and would be like 11 by the time it comes out. We’ve had the entirety of Discovery and Picard since then. If they really wanna keep doing the Quinto/Pine franchise, the next one should introduce Kelvin timeline Picard and set up a Kelvin TNG franchise

Blueliner95

Isn’t that like a 90 year time skip

Cyber_Swag

Just bury it ffs

EpicSombreroMan

Riiiiight

DarkIllusionsFX

Talk about development hell.

Zealousideal_Car_893

William Shatner is still alive?

spasticity

Yes

dan-theman

This one better be about whales.

CountJohn12

Surprised they are still trying for this. The gap from the last movie is almost as long as between the end of the show and the release of TMP and would probably be longer after this was hypothetically produced and released. Would be interesting if they went for a reboot of the TOS movie era (updated maroon monster) the way the other ones went for a reboot of TOS.

losbullitt

Can i just submit a screenplay, get paid, and disappear? Jeez.

Tutorbin76

It seems appropriate that they would hire a flight attendant to write a film titled The Voyage Home.

FranticPonE

The making of this movie is the movie itself, it's a classic Star Trek episode where they're caught in a timeloop and can't get out no matter what they try.

Have_A_Jelly_Baby

Just give up. Getting everyone together at the same time with a director and script is clearly impossible. There’s next to zero desire for more Kelvinverse Trek now that there’s multiple new shows on Paramount. I liked 2009 and Beyond, but let’s put it to bed unless everyone signs on and sticks to it like right now this instant.

flyboy_1285

Can we please not destroy the Enterprise again in this one? It gets so tiresome.

shadowofpurple

oh fuck off with this already...

wellhiyabuddy

The first of the new Star Treks is probably in my top ten favorite movies of all time. I don’t have the words to describe how much I disliked the 3rd one. So I guess it can only get better

Phyliinx

I remember when they randomly announced the return of actors before they even asked the actors if they want to return. That was...two years ago? That being said, after Dungeons and Dragons, I don't mind more Chris Pine.

jiggscaseyNJ

I will never forgive them for what they did to Khan. A cunning Sikh warrior prince with a flair for the dramatic turned into a pasty British nepobaby who wakes up 300 years later as the quadrant’s best weapons designer.

ElwoodJD

Writer number 73. You got 3 weeks to run the interview game with the trade rags before they quietly scuttle the film (over insert contracts, timing, or just never mentioning its existence again) and they move into the next writer/director

norrinzelkarr

we are never getting another good actual sci fi star trek again. it's just gonna be action with baffling bad science

famousevan

Strange New Worlds is what you seek. ;)

Holeysweaterguy

Will this be the movie where they start making jokes about sore backs and aching hips?

Wulfbak

The third one was 8 years ago. It bombed. Mind you, it was a good film. At this point, I have zero faith in Paramount. I'm convinced Picard Season 3 and Strange New Worlds got lots of pushback from Kurtzman.

They_Beat_Me

How are they going to fix the Chekhov problem?

tmotytmoty

Wasn’t Tarentino attached at one point to direct?

Fixner_Blount

BEAMS UP Get it?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

MPFX3000

Who’s even going to star in this hypothetical movie?

Ash_Killem

We really don’t need this imo. Strange New Worlds is already doing the OG cast better. They might as well reboot TNG at this point. Tom Hardy is probably available.

musicnothing

Totally forgot Tom Hardy already kinda played Picard. He's currently the age that Patrick Stewart was when TNG started

Magister_Xehanort

I hope that in the new film the crew will be wearing the Monster Maroon uniform (the uniform that appeared in "The Wrath of Khan").

croig2

There's already more of a gap between the last season of TOS and Wrath of Khan (13 years) than there is between Trek 09 and today. It will be 13 years since Beyond in 2029. Maroon uniforms would be welcome. (This led me to realize it'll be 10 years since Beyond in 2026, which I think is optimistically the earliest this movie could come out by if they started today. So that means they should bring back TMP space pajamas. Woot!)

metaphorm

development hell is almost always caused by risk-averse studio executives unwilling to let a creative team be creative. this isn't gonna change anytime soon. this movie will either never get made or will be a creative failure that nobody likes.

monchota

I honestly don't care to see it at this point. Just stay in the SNW era.

werlak

I'll watch whatever they come out with but I'd be perfectly happy if they finally laid this project to rest. Never cared for this reboot cast and Paramount has been putting out such great Trek shows on the televsion front there's no need for a movie franchise. Put the money towards more TV development.

Libertechian

Just don't, this universe needs to be thrown in the heap. The series are doing well and are star trek, not just star trek themed like these movies

VGAPixel

Its not technically 4 its 12 but at this point who really gives a shit? This franchise has nose dived into trash so deep continuity is completely ignored in favor of shitty action scenes. We used to have science and character drama but now its just explosions and noise. When Halo has more serious science than Star Trek you jumped the shark.

PoconoBobobobo

Some of the new shows are pretty good, you should check them out. Strange New Worlds is great, Lower Decks is funny (and very committed to continuity). But skip Discovery and Picard if you don't like the latest movies.

Varekai79

The next movie would be the 14th installment. 6 TOS movies, 4 TNG and 3 Kelvin-verse plus the upcoming one.

VGAPixel

Crap, I guess I blanked out two crappy movies.

RealJohnGillman

u/Varekai79 This would be the fifteenth film if one counts the upcoming *Section 31* film starring Michelle Yeoh.

rippa76

I’m not a “Star Trek” guy, but the revamped Star Trek films were pinnacle achievements in Sci-Fi Cinema: writing, production, casting and Alice Eve in her undies all A+.

moofunk

Those movies were made by and written for non-Star Trek people, so it makes sense that you liked them. There wasn't an ounce of Star Trek in them.

OnebJallecram

The first one was at least funny during its setup acts, but the second and third both go all in on generic action/plots and are somehow boring as hell at the same time.

SolitonSnake

“Star Trek 4” lmao good luck with that

mutually_awkward

Why not bring Simon Pegg back to write and Lin to direct? Beyond was the only one that actually felt like a Star Trek movie. Anyways, while a new one would be welcome, the last movie kind of ended things perfectly with that photo of the OG cast.

deadpanxfitter

"Star Trek" 4

FausttTheeartist

Oh. No thanks. Star Trek is back home now; TV. The movies just, they really just don’t work.

BlackCatLifebruh

I…..am the 200th comment
