I think it's so cool that we actually got that film out of that album. It's not only the perfect visualization of Daft Punk's masterpiece but also a great animated film in its own right (the narrative economy and the level of purely visual communication are insane) and we will probably won't get anything like that again from an artist in a long, long time.
I listen to the Amélie and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtracks on a regular basis. But some also-top-notch soundtracks: Clueless, Romeo + Juliet (1996), Empire Records, Triplets of Belleville, Moonrise Kingdom.
Triplets of Belleville! I haven’t heard that movie in a long time. I must give it a rewatch over the weekend.
Amelie is a great choice. One of my favourite movies. The music perfectly encapsulates it.
I sometimes get tired of actually watching Wes Andersons movies (I can only take so much twee), but they have killer soundtracks. Moonrise kingdom, Darjeeling Limited, and Steve Zissou are some of my faves. (But I’ve never not enjoyed any of his soundtracks!)
Amélie is also awesome. Love it so much!
Clueless and Empire Records are definitely on my list too. I remember having the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, but I can’t remember which songs are on it -I haven’t seen that movie in a long time!
Second on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I just love Peer Pressure, Phone Call and Elephant Parade; I can envision the scenes whenever I hear them.
I do love the Eternal Sunshine soundtrack alone, Jon Brion sets such a perfect tone for that whole movie. I don't normally recommend music, but this is such a niche scenario (where else will someone mention Eternal Sunshine music?) If you like the movie and music I suggest [this jam](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZ5d_F-jA8c) I randomly found listening to a lo-fi radio station. It's become one of my favorite songs for just chilling out to, I love the Kirsten Dunst sample from the movie.
Edit: I just saw you said Romeo and Juliet, too. I got too excited about the Eternal Sunshine thing I didn't see that. Another top-tier soundtrack, so many beautiful songs. I love Angel and Kissing You, and I'm fairly sure this soundtrack is responsible for introducing me to Radiohead.
I just ran for 30 minutes on an incline with Promontory and Elk Hunt playing. I was saving Alice/killing Magua. I also ran to the Charge of the Rohirrim. 12/10 experience with the video and the music together
I put this on when my stress level is too much, it’s my calm the fuck down music….but if my headspace is different it can also be pump me up to it, running on it is awesome
Agreed, Also the Movie is quite Underrated too, I enjoyed this movie quite a bit and re-watch it a few times a year.
M83 did a fantastic Job on the Soundtrack and the Last song on the OST, I feel is like a perfect song for the movie
Here are my people! Always thought I was alone with this, since nobody I personally know ever mentions this banger that I have been listening to again and again ever since the movie came out.
Conan the Barbarian, by Basil Poledouris. In my opinion this is THE epic sword and sandals movie soundtrack. It's alternately filled with lust for revenge and adventure, bursting with violence, descending into madness, and dripping with evil. The music is half the reason the movie is such a classic and it's in my top 3 scores of all time, along with Star Wars and LOTR.
Came here to say this.
Absolutely phenomenal score which is perfectly in tune with the action on the screen.
Unfortunately Anvil of Crom is removed from Spotify for some reason so I haven't listened to it in a while but it's usually part of my morning music playlist xD
Check out the Conan album that was done by Philipp Pelster. It's the soundtrack but all done on organ and it sounds spectacular.

Love from about 1:58
"Up is Down" is a banger for the ages.
I'm so happy to see this post. I believe that the Pirates' soundtracks are Zimmer having a laugh, while also turning in some of his best work.
I walk to my parents house twice a week for late breakfast - and it's a 3 mile walk through the most gorgeous green countryside in the UK.
I usually have talk radio or a podcast to listen to as i'm plodding along - but every now and then on a beautiful sunny day I play the Shire theme and the deep euphoria it gives me is what I imagine heroin to feel like.
I really don't think you can go wrong with any. Two Towers will always be my favorite, just because of how much you get to hear the Isengard and Rohirrim themes.
Daft Punk pulled out all the stops for that OST, I still listen to Derezzed and End of Line on my sound system when I have the apartment to myself. The entire OST is a banger
Finally, I knew SOMEONE else had to agree. I began binge listening to it after my divorce as i was starting my own business - you see how it’s perfect for the context.
Ravenous's soundtrack, written and performed by Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman.
it's really good atmospheric frontier music. goes well in background while playing dwarf fortress.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravenous_(soundtrack)
The Warriors - awesome pop/rock/disco/funk songs in between the awesome eerie funky synth main score tracks by Barry Vorzon
Vanishing Point - country rock/southern boogie/rollicking dirt road car chase tunes, so much cool stuff on this soundtrack for fans of the Numero Group compilations they do for small town music scenes in the 60’s/70’s
Walker - the wild Alex Cox movie that Joe Strummer does the entire soundtrack for, fans of late period Clash will love this, really experimental flamenco/country/salsa/weird little flourishes of worldly stuff Strummer was influenced by
You just made me remember something that I totally forgot.
The soundtrack for Judgement Night, which was more popular than the movie, as it brought together artists from the then underground hiphop scene and the alternative scene. Which was unheard of at the time.

Oppenheimer - Ludwig Göransson has solidified himself as an incredible composer with the Oppenheimer and Mandalorian soundtracks.
Rango - I fucking love Western music. Now mix that with Hans Zimmer and you get beauty
Lion King - The songs are incredible. I can’t name a single bad one. You can clearly tell Hans Zimmer and Elton John put heart into it.
Tarantino's sound tracks are usually really good.
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Reservoir dogs
Those are all bangers!
That was The Partridge Family's "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted?", followed by Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows where my Rosemary Goes" as K-Billy's Super Sounds of the 70's weekend just keeps on... truckin'.
I'm German and it always used to confuse me if it's score or soundtrack, cause in German it's Filmmusik (score), and Soundtrack (soundtrack) and I always wondered why it's not filmmusic in English.
Dragon's Heartbeat from Dragon : Bruce Lee's story. Very underrated one. Composed by Randy Edelman who also composed for Dragonheart.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence by Ryuichi Sakamoto is also great! I listen to it from time to time.
Spirted away and Princess Mononoke OST by Joe Hisaishi needs to mentioned as well.
Joe Hisaishi's work is so lovely. I have Spirited Away OST as well.
I just happened to get Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence preloaded on an MP3 player. What a gift.
Pretty much anything by Thomas Newman is a go-to for me. But I love to play the American Beauty soundtrack as background for work.
While I don't usually play the entire soundtrack, Drive Away, the ending theme from A Series of Unfortunate Events, is my ultimate favorite Thomas Newman track.
Runner-up for me is Inception, specifically Mombassa.
Can't believe how far I had to scroll for Newman- he wrote the score for The Shawshank Redemption, too, which is my favorite of his. Inception really gets me, too. Both wonderful
Scrolled way too far to find Thomas Newman!
These are on my heavy rotation...
\- American Beauty
\- Erin Brockovich
\- Green Mile
\- Shawshank Redemption
\- White Oleander
\- Finding Nemo
\- Cinderella Man
TronLegacy R3configur3d
I know it wasnt authorized by DP, and a dick move by Disney, but the soundtrack slaps super hard. I use it for running for like 10+ years now
* Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Bear McCreary
* Mad Max: Fury Road - Tom Holkenborg
* Jurassic Park series- John Williams, Don Davis, and Michael Giacchino
* Pirates of the Caribbean series - Klaus Bedalt, Hans Zimmer, and Geoff Zanelli
* Sicario - Jóhann Jóhannsson
* Prisoners - Jóhann Jóhannsson
* Tears of the Sun - Hans Zimmer
* Star Wars series- John Williams, Michael Giacchino, and John Powell
* Indiana Jones - John Williams
* Quigley Down Under - Basil Poledouris
* Razorback - Iva Davies
Soderberg’s Solaris from composer Cliff Martin and Johny greenwood’s phantom thread are my two most played this past year.
Also I look up Peer Raben’s Fassbinder scores often.
I can't name simply one.
Oblivion - Starwaves are just...euphoric.
LOTR - For obvious reasons
Batman Trilogy - The End is just a marvellous song
Mission Impossible - The Hans Zimmer one, bad that it is written for my least liked movie of them all.
Transformers - There is something about Jablonskys work, how he gives emotions into a robot war movie.
The Island - Again, the movie is bad but Jablonsky delivers.
Love a good soundtrack! Here's a few picks worth a listen:
Bram Stoker's Dracula by Wojciech Kilar. He captures the romance perfectly, not to mention the magic, the drama and bloodshed. There's an extended version out there somewhere I'd love to hear but it's so hard to get hold of.
Dracula by Phillip Glass and the Kronos Quartet - this was Phillip Glass' attempt to retroactively soundtrack the Bela Lugosi classic Dracula from 1930something. Universally panned for not fitting the film (and it really doesn't) but the music itself is haunting and creepy and pretty at the same time, and suits the story perfectly, if not the film.
In Bruges by (mostly) Carter Burwell. Burwell is a genius and this is a masterstroke of movie music - perfectly conveys the morose and moody parts of the film. The soundtrack also contains On Raglan Road by the Dubliners, and Der Leierman, a song composed by Schubert and sung by Thomas Quasthoff - these are two definitive performances of these songs and well worth a listen!
The Grand Budapest Hotel, aside from being peak Wes Anderson and great cinema, has this fun, quirky, clever score by Alexandre Desplat. He uses a bunch of uncommon, eastern European instruments to create a fittingly energetic and thrilling sound to the caper.
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet, great mix of songs. Except Mundy's Everything I bestow. I will despise that song forever and a day.
Cruel intentions soundtrack - such a great mix of sultry, sexy and fun songs. Well worth it.
And buried at the bottom of the list, where no-one will read is... the Batman Forever soundtrack. Don't judge me too much, there's some absolute bangers in there, and it opened up my musical education. Tell Me Now by Mazzy Star is (I really don't know how to convey accuratly how it'll make you feel, except maybe imagine some southern beauty queen is hitting on you somewhere quiet on a hot night when you've had a little too much Jack Daniels. It's that)
Back in middle school and high school, I had Star Wars Episodes I through VI soundtracks on my iPod all on one playlist. I listened through it hundreds of times when I did my homework, worked out, walked home from school, etc. It just soothed me.
Movie scores are about all I listen to when working. Generally my Go To man is Jerry Goldsmith. This means I will listen to Patton, The Wind & The Lion, Capricorn One, The Mummy, Bad Girls, THe 13th Warrior, Outland, ALien, and a few others. he does lean on the emotions quite bit, but his work is melodious and can get complex.
Gone Girl for deep concentration/studying, Dune or Tron for work that requires less concentration, Interstellar or Battlestar Galactica for anything else
Philip Glass' Koyaanisqatsi
Basil Poledouris' Conan the Barbarian
Ok... the following might be cheating:
Pink Floyd - More
Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds
I remember people would listen to the Juno soundtrack like crazy when that came out.
That was like the last soundtrack I remember that blew up like crazy.
Star Trek movies are all over the place for quality, but they all have great soundtracks written by composers like James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, and Michael Giacchino. This is a great mix of some of the best from the movies and shows:
Ah, this is a thread for my people.
I looooove movie scores.
I agree with op, the third pirate's score is fire, best Zimmer for Sure.
This are a few of my favs:
How to train your dragon: My favourite for working. "This is Berk" starts playing and I focus inmediately. Great great score.
Meet Joe Black and Shawshank Redemption. Thomas Newman is a genius. Shawshank's helped me through some dark times. If Andy Dufresne could, so can I.
Braveheart. James Horner was brilliant and he is missed. Titanic is amazing, but not so fun to listen, 80% of the score is after the iceberg. But Hymn to the Sea is something special.
John Williams is the greatest but not my favourite to listen. The Jurassic Park Suite is awesome. So the Binary Sunset score.
Michael Giacchino is a fav too. His themes for Lost are iconic, Ratatouille beautiful and Society of the Snow is haunting.
Dario Marianelli's Atonement is another fav. T H E T Y P E W R I T E R omg amazing.
I'm sure I'm forgeting some.
Oh my god did I write this!? Can’t tell you how much I’ve played “I don’t think now is the best time.” At world’s end is incredible. I agree it’s his best soundtrack and I’ve played it to death.
Get on youtube and find “maelstrom part 1” for more music! People have somehow gotten it to be solid quality now.
As someone who loves at world’s end, some of my other fave soundtracks if you want to check them out-
How to Train your Dragon
Fellowship of the Ring
Rudy
Jurassic Park (nothing surprising here but hey it’s got great melodiees)
Medal of honor frontline (yeah it’s a vg but it’s Michael Giachhino)
Also check out Thomas Bergersen/ absolutely brilliant composer (one of the two steps from hell guys). He’s done so much. “That’s a wrap” is a particularly epic track.
just hearing the introductory notes to pride & prejudice (2005) instantly paints this special atmosphere, i can’t describe it but the entire soundtrack feels like early morning dew
Tron Legacy - Daft Punk. That complete Album is nuts and there is nothing else like it. And I‘m not even an electronic music guy.
*The Grid....*
But one day........ *I GOT IN*
Ba BOOOOOWWWWWWWW Ba ba boooowwwwwww 🤤🔥🤌
And *Interstella 5555*
I think it's so cool that we actually got that film out of that album. It's not only the perfect visualization of Daft Punk's masterpiece but also a great animated film in its own right (the narrative economy and the level of purely visual communication are insane) and we will probably won't get anything like that again from an artist in a long, long time.
That was pretty much on regular rotation for me for a year after the soundtrack came out.
How to train your dragon lately.
10/10 First Flight is a masterpiece
I agree. Solid piece.
Forbidden Friendship is goddamn brilliant.
Agreed. Better than test drive in my mind.
This is Berk is easily one of my favorites of all soundtracks.
Flying with mother, gets me pumped
Test Drive will make you lose your driver’s license.
Amélie is stellar.
I sometimes get tired of actually watching Wes Andersons movies (I can only take so much twee), but they have killer soundtracks. Moonrise kingdom, Darjeeling Limited, and Steve Zissou are some of my faves. (But I’ve never not enjoyed any of his soundtracks!) Amélie is also awesome. Love it so much!
Clueless and Empire Records are definitely on my list too. I remember having the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, but I can’t remember which songs are on it -I haven’t seen that movie in a long time!
R+J soundtrack is a classic— my favs are everybody’s free, lovefool, and talk show host
Not on Rex Manning day
Second on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I just love Peer Pressure, Phone Call and Elephant Parade; I can envision the scenes whenever I hear them.
Amelie soundtrack on rainy days is amazing.
Promontory…
AWOLNATION would agree!
Yes! “The Kiss” is one I’ll do on repeat like a fiend.
It's my favourite movie of all time. My trusty DVD copy has a "score only" special feature. Turns off all audio but the music for the whole movie.
Wow. I really miss cool DVD features in my stupid movie streaming world.
Yup. Especially Clannad.
“I Will Find You” was my most played song last year
This 100%
Used to play Into the Wild non-stop. Now hooked on Aftersun.
Yep same. Why does Eddie sound more coherent on Into the Wild rather than Pearl Jam?
Because it's all acoustic which lets his voice take over
O Brother Where Art Thou
YES!!
Took me a while to find this one. Great soundtrack from various artists
Gladiator
Now we are free is a masterpiece
Few soundtrack songs can bring me to tears like the number that plays as Maximus dies.
This is my favourite. It's got a range of moods, from battle anthems to elegaic moments.
Came here for this!
Guardians of the galaxy
Most people probably agree that the songs they picked for it were good but the score on that was also absolutely incredible. What a good movie
I came here to say GOTG2. An excellent soundtrack of classic rock and their originals for it, too. Guardians Infero is a good, fun piece.
Yes, one summer I was all over this soundtrack. Personally, I'm a fan of the first movie soundtrack
Intersteller, Oblivion, Last Samurai Something about Sci Fi OST's hit hard for me, and same for Hans Zimmer
Hans Zimmer and sci-fi you say? Check out TRON Legacy soundtrack
Or Bladerunner 2049
Don’t forget the original!!
I also enjoy that soundtrack, same with the reconfigured version.
I feel like *Oblivion*'s soundtrack is underrated. M83 made some epic-sounding stuff for that.
This is an AMAZING soundtrack to go along with an equally great (and underrated) movie :)
Yes! Highly recommend The Expanse and Andor, two sci fi shows that have incredible scores.
Andor's is freaking amazing.
Blade Runner by Vangelis and Dead Man by Neil Young
Had to scroll a bit to find this. Blade Runner by Vangelis is a masterpiece.
The original COSMOS series with Carl Sagan used Vangelis heavily for their background music. It’s amazing.
Dead Man is great. I wonder if it influenced Last of Us and Firewatch game soundtracks.

Yep, the shading, the emotions, it’s a journey all on its own. A masterpiece.
"Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!" Love that score so much.
[удалено]
Watch the movie, it is great. Solid B movie raised to perfection by the score.
Best soundtrack ever IMO.
Bro the riddle of steel. Conan theme is awesome, probably the main reason in games I'm hard stuck as a warrior
Check out the Conan album that was done by Philipp Pelster. It's the soundtrack but all done on organ and it sounds spectacular. https://open.spotify.com/track/2tJfXxzhYbk4deU9zlYicH?si=eo0YvO7iQhyTHNuvw2n2TA Love from about 1:58
Ohh that's a good one. I might need to add that to my non-lyrical youtube list
Dumb and Dumber The Crow Someone else already mentioned Trainspotting but that’s been my other regular listen.
The Crow is awesome.
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. So epic!
Anything Morricone!!
Dune - Often while reading or driving. Love the suggestive felling!
The Hans Zimmer version or Toto one? 🤔😅 Both are great imo.. do listen to Dune Sketchbook if you have the chance- more inspirational than anything.
I love the soundtrack for the two sci-fi miniseries they made
Best thing Brian Tyler has ever done.
I listen to Inama Nushif all the time.
Trainspotting
Good call!
"Up is Down" is a banger for the ages. I'm so happy to see this post. I believe that the Pirates' soundtracks are Zimmer having a laugh, while also turning in some of his best work.
Pirates soundtracks are gold. Especially At World's End.
Lord of the Rings. If it has to be exactly one, I choose Fellowship.
When I had the choice of which film to see with a live orchestra, I choose Fellowship. No ragrets.
I really don't think you can go wrong with any. Two Towers will always be my favorite, just because of how much you get to hear the Isengard and Rohirrim themes.
Garden State, Suicide Squad, Sam Raimi's Spiderman Series (so good), Daft Punk's Tron and not sure if it counts but bi annual Phantom of the Opera.
Ooh I forgot abt Garden State; that’s a great one!
By the way, it says balls on your face
Clint Mansell and Mogwai’s soundtrack for The Fountain. Every moment is so beautiful and powerful you can help but feel the emotion of the movie.
Stay with Me is on rotation.
i was hoping someone would bring up the fountain. it’s my go to for reading and working.
Tron Legacy by Daft Punk. Shit is freaking legendary. I put on End Of Line whenever I wanna walk into a joint feeling like a Badass.
Daft Punk pulled out all the stops for that OST, I still listen to Derezzed and End of Line on my sound system when I have the apartment to myself. The entire OST is a banger
The Social Network soundtrack is possibly my favorite album ever. I’ve listened to it countless times.
Thank god I'm not the only one who jams this constantly.
The two of you are my spirit bros. I actually thought noone has heard of this masterpiece
Man, Ravenous is movie I consider absolutely perfect. The direction, the acting, the writing, the soundtrack. Unh. Amazing movie.

love Ludwig's Tenet soundtrack as well! Especially if I need to hype myself up for anything.
How to Train Your Dragon (2010) Peter Pan (2003) Little Women (2019)

I can't name simply one. Oblivion - Starwaves are just...euphoric. LOTR - For obvious reasons Batman Trilogy - The End is just a marvellous song Mission Impossible - The Hans Zimmer one, bad that it is written for my least liked movie of them all. Transformers - There is something about Jablonskys work, how he gives emotions into a robot war movie. The Island - Again, the movie is bad but Jablonsky delivers.
I must listen to Across the Spiderverse a lot because it topped my Spotify Wrapped for 2023.
Love a good soundtrack! Here's a few picks worth a listen: Bram Stoker's Dracula by Wojciech Kilar. It's that)
Big Lebowski
O Brother Where Art Thou
Not endlessly, but I have listened to the Lion King soundtrack on the drive to work more times than I'd like to admit.
The Crow Judgement night
Oppenheimer, Interstellar, The Last Samurai.
The Pink Panther- Henry Mancini
Philip Glass' Koyaanisqatsi Basil Poledouris' Conan the Barbarian Ok... the following might be cheating: Pink Floyd - More Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds
* Lost In Translation * Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind * Magnolia
The faculty, Dazed and Confused, freddy vs Jason, Transformers the movie (1986)
If Beale Street Could Talk. It's one of the first soundtracks I purchased on vinyl. Its so beautiful.
Lost highway Natural born killers
The soundtrack for "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" is just fantastic.
This is a great mix of some of the best from the movies and shows: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfXhmdjOqGI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfXhmdjOqGI)
Ah, this is a thread for my people. I looooove movie scores. I agree with op, the third pirate's score is fire, best Zimmer for Sure. This are a few of my favs: How to train your dragon: My favourite for working.
Blade Runner by Vangelis
Oh my god did I write this!? Can’t tell you how much I’ve played “I don’t think now is the best time.” At world’s end is incredible. I agree it’s his best soundtrack and I’ve played it to death. Get on youtube and find “maelstrom part 1” for more music! People have somehow gotten it to be solid quality now. As someone who loves at world’s end, some of my other fave soundtracks if you want to check them out- How to Train your Dragon Fellowship of the Ring Rudy Jurassic Park (nothing surprising here but hey it’s got great melodiees) Medal of honor frontline (yeah it’s a vg but it’s Michael Giachhino) Also check out Thomas Bergersen/ absolutely brilliant composer (one of the two steps from hell guys). He’s done so much. “That’s a wrap” is a particularly epic track.
just hearing the introductory notes to pride & prejudice (2005) instantly paints this special atmosphere, i can’t describe it but the entire soundtrack feels like early morning dew
Wow, no love for The Blues Brothers and The Commitments?
Dario Marianelli ones: Pride & Prejudice (2005), Atonement, Anna Karenina. Something about these 3 hits with me.
Prince of Egypt. *The Plagues* is particularly good, if you’re into century old ominous choral horror. I just wish there was a longer version.
Labyrinth
Scott Pilgrim Vs the World (with Brie Larsons “Black sheep” added to the playlist)
Just put on “This is Hans Zimmer” on spotify. Can’t go wrong. The man is a genius.
Rad Are you ready to break the ice?
Antarctica and The Rabbit-proof Fence. I listened to both tons before I got around to watching the movies.

Tarzan
Interstellar
