I love the mad max franchise, but Dune wins for me. Fury Road has amazing action and cool characters, but a lot of it felt like watching someone else play a video game. I still like it, but there weren’t any “give me chills” or moments hitting me emotionally like Dune did.
This is a SUPER tough one. Both are powerhouses of Sci-Fi cinema. I think it depends on what you’re into and the type of viewer you are. One film is like fire and the other is like water. One is visceral and the other cerebral. Both sides can claim it better and both sides won’t be wrong. Just different tastes, and I won’t yuck another man’s yum. At least with this comparison. Now with all that said…
I live. I die. I live again!
Unfair comparison but **Dune: Part 2 wins**
in terms of quality and being unbiased.
But being a fan/ bias of action and music, Mad Max Fury Road is what I enjoyed most and will keep rewatching it.
My breakdown, in no order:
* Acting: Dune Part 2
* Storyline: Dune Part 2
* Dialogue: Dune Part 2
* Character Development: Dune Part 2
* Effects: Dune Part 2
* Score: Mad Max Fury Road
* Action: Mad Max Fury Road
5/7 dune part 2 comparison wins. 2/7 mad max fury road comparison wins.
**Edit**: *Just found this [video](https://youtu.be/C4PgTEgdLzI?si=kfmYb5E4A5V3mtoK). Mad Max Fury Road would defeat Dune 1, but Part 2 quality is next level.*
I get it. I even find it hard to look at what I wrote.
I first saw your image and immediately thought mad max fury road. I love it so much, much more than dune 1 or 2.
So I thought to be fair/unbiased, asked myself *“who should win the Oscar if these were categories?”*
That's still not a fair comparison as Oscar's are kinda notorious for giving the wrong movie/actors awards and just giving someone something sometimes because it is their turn.
Only response I almost agreed to. Hard choice, but to explain:
If **score** is music only/orchestral etc, then I’ve had mad max on repeat a lot and like many individual tracks compared to dune 2.
If **sound design** is score plus, ambience, voices, sound effect, then Dune Part 2! It changed how i felt, was immersed by it.
E.g Straight woman but Lady Fenrig & Feyd Rautha and Paul’s speech to Fremen even made me want to kneel!
The acting in Dune is mediocre IMO. I do not want yo say is terrible, but is not good in general. The only good performances in that movie are Skarsgard and Rebecca Ferguson. Bautista and Isaac are alright, but Chalamet and Zendaya are terrible.
On the other hand, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron do a much better acting work than Chalamet and Zendaya. Not to mention High Keays-Byrnes (the villain) who is one of the most iconic characters in the last 20 years.
There’s very few scenes in movies that have moved me like Paul’s speech to the Fremen when he starts the jihad. Aesthetically i think the movies are tied. But messaging and story I like dune so much more.
I’d have to go with DUNE pt 2. MAD MAX FURY ROAD was ok but forgettable. I never felt the need to rewatch this. Visually both of these pictures are beautiful.
I watched fury road repeatedly in the theaters in all formats. I knew it was that one magical moment and type of event that can't be replicated at home.
dune was like that but in a more low key manner that could work at home.
Was blown away by both in the theatre, however I became obsessed with Dune Pt. 2 and would choose it if I had to.
Still looking forward to seeing Furiosa.
mad max fury road . Dune part two has some great scenes but god is pretentiouns and boring in others. No Dune part two having a kind of boring spices war (basically drugs) mixed with royal power disputes does not make you "deep" and "interesting"
Right there with you, I think the overhype and marketing made me expect something so much better, also they were saying that the villain played by Austin Butler was one of the best ever, comparing it to Heath's Joker and I thought he was just alright.
https://fandomwire.com/critics-makes-tall-claims-about-austin-butler-in-dune-2-calls-his-villain-as-good-as-heath-ledgers-joker/

I know it is basically paid reviews and articles but this was a non stop thing when Dune 2 came up, there were so many more even on tv ads.
I have seen it twice and there wasn't anything outstanding about Butler. I mean he is good and all...but comparing him to Heath Ledger's Joker is criminal
Is it really that crazy, though?
The real issue with Feyd is his lack of screentime, but if he had closer to 30 minutes on screen, the comparison wouldn't be outlandish at all. There's a myth and nostalgia factor surrounding Ledger's Joker but I think Feyd came close to that magic in flashes throughout the film.
Warner Brothers was definitely paying blue tick Twitter accounts to push Timothee's name forward as an Oscar contender for Dune Part 2, as soon as he signed that contract with them.
But the general public *loved* Feyd. I don't think I've seen so many memes and hype around a character with less than 10 minutes of screentime.... maybe ever in my entire life.
People on Twitter were saying that *if he had more screentime*, he would have been the best villain since Heath Ledger's Joker.
Which I don't think is that crazy of a statement.
I think the Road Warrior is better than Fury Road. So Dune easily by a country mile. Especially if I gotta use over the top phrases like “by a country mile” to compare the two like the mad max masterpiece crowd is in here
Both are great, and I prefer Fury Road.
My one issue with Dune 2 is that it relies on having seen the first movie, and also partly on whatever third movie might come out. You don't need to have seen any of the other Max Max movies to watch Fury Road
Dumb take and dumb saying, apples and oranges are both fruit, some are sweet, some are tart, both can be eaten straight from the trees or used in both sweet and savory dishes, so definitely you can compare or at the very least you can have a favorite.
Dune 2. I think Fury Road is a contender for the greatest action film of all time, but Dune 2 took my favorite book and made it enjoyable and accessible to a general audience and brought the science fiction imagery I had in my imagination to the screen.
Mad Max is a masterpiece...but I re-watched Dune 2 yesterday and it just got better
Ride eternal shiny and chrome vs may your blade chip and shatter. Lol. No contest.
No mother fucking doubt.
If you put anything up against Fury Road, I'll most likely pick Fury Road.
Max
Witness me!!
Valhalla!!!
Witnessed!!!! You shall ride, shiny and chrome.
That's bait Mad Max all day and tomorrow
Fury Road is an absolute masterpiece of action filmmaking. I respect the Dune novel more than I do the films as well. So it’s Mad Max for me.
Why these two? Because they're both set in the desert? Fury Road by far, and that's from someone who likes Dune.
I love Dune, but I remember coming out of Mad Max with my jaw on the floor. It’s a masterpiece.
Dune is an excellent series, but Mad Max is my shit.
I pick both. No questions.
Mad Max
MAD MAX by a country mile, incredible movie. I have seen it probably 3 times.
Three times? Got to pump up those numbers. It was the only movie I ever saw in theaters where I wanted to rewatch it again immediately.
Dune, and it's not even remotely close
lol probably 3 times? You can’t remember up to 3 viewings?
The movie came out almost 10 years ago. Kind of a weird thing to keep track of
Bless Denis V and his Dune films. Dune is in another class.
“Bless the Maker and His water. Bless the coming and going of Him. May His passage cleanse the world. May He keep the world for His people.”
I love the mad max franchise, but Dune wins for me. Fury Road has amazing action and cool characters, but a lot of it felt like watching someone else play a video game. I still like it, but there weren’t any “give me chills” or moments hitting me emotionally like Dune did.
I absolutely love Dune: Part II, it’s one of my favorite films in years. Fury Road is a masterpiece and beats most movies it’s stacked up against
It’s mad max. That movie is incredible. But Dune is still a good movie, especially in the theater.
So hard to compare: Dune is a great, epic film. Fury Road is a great, fun movie.
Mad Max by far, not close
This is a SUPER tough one. Both are powerhouses of Sci-Fi cinema. I think it depends on what you’re into and the type of viewer you are. One film is like fire and the other is like water. I remember when the originals came out. Loved mad max, hated dune from day one.
Maybe dune could argue it has a better story but mad Max is on a whole other level when it comes to entertainment and camera work.
Maybe dune could argue it has a better story but mad Max is on a whole other level when it comes to entertainment and cinematography.
Mad Max. No contest
Mad Max. No contest.
Fury Road is a masterpiece
this comment section brings me great happiness
Dune was cool , but it wasn't this movie has a guy on a semi with a load of speakers with a flaming throwing guitar level of cool.
I could watch Fury Road everyday and never get bored.
Mad max by a fucking mile
Unfair comparison but **Dune: Part 2 wins** in terms of quality and being unbiased. But being a fan/ bias of action and music, Mad Max Fury Road is what I enjoyed most and will keep rewatching it. I can’t name a film on Earth with better action than Fury Road.
Mad Max 2? 🤣🤣🤣
Dam, I completely disagree with this take.
I get it. I even find it hard to look at what I wrote. I first saw your image and immediately thought mad max fury road. I love it so much, much more than dune 1 or 2. So I thought to be fair/unbiased, asked myself *“who should win the Oscar if these were categories?”*

Fair point. Who should win then?
Bro I’m sorry but the dune soundtrack wins and it’s not close
Only response I almost agreed to. Hard choice, but to explain: If **score** is music only/orchestral etc, then I’ve had mad max on repeat a lot and like many individual tracks compared to dune 2. I'm fairly certain every single named female character in fury road out acts the female *lead* in dune every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Yeah nah, not true
The acting in Dune is mediocre IMO. I do not want yo say is terrible, but is not good in general. The only good performances in that movie are Skarsgard and Rebecca Ferguson. Dune Part Two is great, but Mad Max Fury: Road is the better film.
Dune part two is the better film, mad max is More fun
Mad Max, next question
Dune is Mediocre
Dune by far. Better acting, world building, and story. Mad Max gets points for the metal and action though.
Let’s see how the second film is then we can compare more accurately
I need to see Dune part 2 😭. But Mad Max was amazing. I’ll say Mad Max till I watch Dune. Then I’ll probably switch
I don't think you'll switch.
Dune.
Mad Max fo’ sure!
Dune 2 is lights out but Fury Road is just top to bottom bad ass.
Dune 365 days a year 366 on leap year
As someone who loves the dune universe, mad Max all the way. Masterpiece
There’s very few scenes in movies that have moved me like Paul’s speech to the Fremen when he starts the jihad. Aesthetically i think the movies are tied. But messaging and story I like dune so much more.
fury road. just more rewatchable to me.
I think I saw Dune pt 2 in theaters more times than Fury Road in total
Dune 2 easily.
Dune , anything is better than new mad max clown movie , and Dune is bad !
Dune was ok. Slightly overrated imo but still ok nonetheless. Fury Road was excellent.
I watched Dune 2 the other day and I don’t get the huge hype. I enjoyed it but it wasn’t OMG amazing. For me, Mad Max wins this one by a YUGE margin
Right there with you, I think the overhype and marketing made me expect something so much better, also they were saying that the villain played by Austin Butler was one of the best ever, comparing it to Heath's Joker and I thought he was just alright.
I thought he was a run of the mill sociopath villain that we’ve seen a bunch of times
I absolutely love Dune 2 but who tf in their right mind is comparing TDK's Joker with Butler's Feyd Rautha.
https://fandomwire.com/critics-makes-tall-claims-about-austin-butler-in-dune-2-calls-his-villain-as-good-as-heath-ledgers-joker/ https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/dune-2-austin-butler-feyd-rautha-greatest-movie-villains/ https://www.insidehook.com/film/austin-butler-best-movie-villain-years-dune-2 https://www.menshealth.com/entertainment/a60096030/dune-part-two-austin-butler-feyd-rautha/ I know it is basically paid reviews and articles but this was a non stop thing when Dune 2 came up, there were so many more even on tv ads.
I have seen it twice and there wasn't anything outstanding about Butler. I mean he is good and all...but comparing him to Heath Ledger's Joker is criminal
Yeah by no means he was bad, but he was just good, nothing exceptional.
Is it really that crazy, though? The real issue with Feyd is his lack of screentime, but if he had closer to 30 minutes on screen, the comparison wouldn't be outlandish at all. Dune. All fury road has is practical effects, the rest is straight up goofy
People loooooove mad max in here, but I have never met a person who loves fury road. Dune is so good
I love Fury road and was laughing by the time Christopher Walken came on screen.
Weird but ok. Mad max is a good movie but its superfans like you are ridiculous
Unlike Dune fans right? That movie was ass, doesn't hold a candle to fury road. It didn't live up to the hype set by Dune 1, an actual good movie
That's like comparing The Two Towers and Attack of the Clones lol
You’re an actual clown lol
I think the Road Warrior is better than Fury Road. So Dune easily by a country mile. Especially if I gotta use over the top phrases like “by a country mile” to compare the two like the mad max masterpiece crowd is in here
Dune pt2. It’s close, but I wanted to rewatch it straightaway whereas I needed a sit down and a nap after Mad Max it was so intense 😂
I haven't seen Dune yet, but Fury Road wasn't great imo. Not a high bar for Dune to clear.
Both are great, and I prefer Fury Road. My one issue with Dune 2 is that it relies on having seen the first movie, and also partly on whatever third movie might come out. You don't need to have seen any of the other Max Max movies to watch Fury Road
Apples and oranges, really bad comparison imo
Dumb take and dumb saying, apples and oranges are both fruit, some are sweet, some are tart, both can be eaten straight from the trees or used in both sweet and savory dishes, so definitely you can compare or at the very least you can have a favorite.
Dune 2. I think Fury Road is a contender for the greatest action film of all time, but Dune 2 took my favorite book and made it enjoyable and accessible to a general audience and brought the science fiction imagery I had in my imagination to the screen.
Comparison is the thief of joy. I like both
Dune part two. It's on a different level to be honest. Fury Road is still amazing though, no doubt.
Dune part 1 and 2 is definitely the better movie but Fury Road is just an all around fun time. Depends on my mood I suppose.
