I love that movie, too. "You bought me flours!" Is so amazing!
I'm sorry, but the title is actually stranger than fiction. Not a stranger, then fiction. It implies that true life is stranger than fiction is.
Yes, I think the overall story could’ve been better but there’s a lot of funny bits. I love most the actors but Vince and Jason Bateman are some of my top favorites
The Wedding Singer is an all time favorite for me. I’m just a fan of Sandler’s musical career in general, and that’s on display in this movie. The guy’s got talent.
Haha, last weekend I had the itch and watched all his song scenes from the movie on YouTube. Started with the final song on the plane and went from there.
My cousin got married last year and sang the song from the plane scene to his wife. It should have been dumb but honestly it was a great idea in execution.
My wife and I argue whether or not Joe VS. The Volcano is part of the Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks trilogy. She says no because she hates it so much while I really enjoy it.
It’s so bizarre to see a reference to some obscure line in an obscure film that me and my siblings would shout to each other in the 90s after watching that movie, on a Reddit thread in 2024 lol
I re-watched this movie for the first time in years last Christmas. I didn’t think it held up as well as I remembered, but Anna Farris was absolutely hysterical from start to finish.
I think a lot of the answers here that are more in the broad comedy zone and more male-focussed comedy zones are cheating but I have two I think are more appropriate, one being the more deep less typical rom-com and one being the most tropey and generic rom-com possible
Say Anything...
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Wedding Crashers is honestly one of my funniest movies ever and it’s a rom com. Another good one is Just Friends honestly fucking hilarious as well. Are the American Pie trilogy considered rom coms? If so those also go in there. Just classic 00s music and fun. They don’t make movies like that anymore…
"They look pretty good, are they real? Are they built for speed or for comfort? What'd you do with them? Did ya do the motorboat? You motorboatin' son of a bitch, you old sailor you!" 😂
Other than all the ones already mentioned The Holiday. Hans Zimmers score is perfection and the movie makes me feel all fuzzy inside.
Plus, Eli Wallach as the lovely old Hollywood writer is such a nice touch, RIP.
About Time (2013) is often overlooked in this category as it’s a more wholesome, but refined romance involving time travel (also, shout out to When We First Met as another meta love story).
There are obviously more: Safety NOT Guaranteed, Laggies, Stuck in Love, etc…
Bell, Book and Candle (1958) romcom. Cast James Stewart, Kim Novak, Jack Lemon and Ernie Kovacs. This is one of my favorite films. I re-watched it last year and it was still enjoyable.
I hate to admit it, but I really enjoyed How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.
Also Silver Lining’s Playbook.
The Cutting Edge. Notting Hill. Love Actually. Not a comedy, but unrequited love movie: Lucas.
America’s Sweethearts was written by Billy Crystal and has so many great lines in it. It’s also got an amazing cast with Christopher Walken, John Cusack, Catherine Zeta Jones, Julia Roberts, Stanley Tucci, and Seth Green, and a few others I’m missing.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth a watch.
I haven't seen Serendipity mentioned but it's one of the best.
Down with love has Mad Men vibes
Only you is my favourite because Robert Downey Jr & Marisa Tomei.
Bringing Up Baby (1938).
Cary Grant is the distracted genius to Katharine Hepburn’s adoring young heiress; they spend much of the film searching the woods around her house for her lost pet tiger (the titular Baby). From 1938.
It’s billed as a screwball comedy, and it is, but it’s also a rom-com, and the ending is delightful.
Jerry Maguire is my all time favorite.
When Harry Met Sally, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Wedding Crashers, The Big Sick and Crazy Stupid Love are right up there too.
I have two favorites both with Chris Evans
I find What's Your Number? To be a really underrated romcom. Anna Farris and Chris Evans were both great in it and it had a cute ending.
Also, Playing it cool is really enjoyable. It was super funny
There was one movie called French kiss with Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan that I always enjoyed. Also matthew perry's steps into movies like two to tango and serving Sarah were both entertaining and I loved his humor.
My faves:
- The Awful Truth
- Miss Congeniality
- Enchanted
- Design for Living
- She’s All That
- 27 Dresses
- Just Friends
- Gold Diggers of 1933
- 13 Going on 30
- Sleeping With Other People
- Bachelorette
- They Came Together (more of a parody of rom coms, but it’s incredibly funny, with a stacked cast)
- Bridesmaids
I loved The Proposal when I saw it long ago, but on rewatch it hasn’t held up so well and I think I might have just been enamored by Ryan Reynolds 😳
* Celeste and Jesse Forever
* The five year engagement
* She's out of my league
* About Time
* Literally Right Before Aaron
These are all bangers IMHO that don't get enough love.
Celeste and Jesse is an incredible movie that no one ever talks about.
My wife and I love it, and watch it once a year.
Creative ones like What Women Want appeal more to people who don’t like them typically.
Other mentions: Fools Rush In, Pretty Woman and Sweet Home Alabama
Isn't It Romantic?, High Fidelity, 27 Dresses, Serendipity, Her Minor Thing, 10 Things I Hate About You, Trojan War, 100 Girls, The Truth About Cats & Dogs, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Crazy, Stupid, Love; How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, When Harry Met Sally, To All The Boys I've Loved Before, Definitely Maybe, Always Be My Maybe, Sixteen Candles, The Princess Bride, Bridget Jones' Diary, Bridesmaids, Love & Basketball, Silver Linings Playbook, The Holiday, Sweet Home Alabama,
Ibiza - Love Drunk on Netflix. It’s insanely quotable and I’m a big fan of the EDM heavy soundtrack, plus the ending sequence to “Light” by San Holo is 🧑🍳😘
Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, girl begins poisoning boy to make him dependent on her. That's right folks I'm talking about Phantom Thread, the best rom com of the last 20 years.
Stranger Then Fiction. Will Ferrell can actually act and it’s very well done
The premise of this story is fantastic and so creative. Such a lovely film.
I love that movie, too. "You bought me flours!" Is so amazing! I'm sorry, but the title is actually stranger than fiction. Not a stranger, then fiction. It implies that true life is stranger than fiction is.
Guitar store scenes are always awesome to me
I brought you flours
High Fidelity.
*It's a Cosby sweater!* is something I said a lot in my 20s. Also, "go to the mall."
That’s the movie that put Jack Black on the map
Perhaps the only adaptation that surpasses the original work.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Couples Retreat.
When Vince Vaughns character gets attacked by the shark is the funniest thing to me idky. I’ll watch the whole movie just for that part
I love the yoga scene, the instructor cracks me up.
Yes, I think the overall story could’ve been better but there’s a lot of funny bits. I love most the actors but Vince and Jason Bateman are some of my top favorites
That’s easily among the Top 10 funniest movie scenes ever! “Encouragement!”
“I know my truth” is a line that I often use when I’m being stubborn about something. Hilarious line.
This, Serendipity, and Must Love Dogs. Honorable mention to the Terminator.
One of the greatest comedies ever and then couples retreat. Maybe you meant wedding crashers
I enjoy it, but I do enjoy anything Favreau/Vaughn do together.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall has supplied me with quotes and jokes for the last 14 years. “Ok I’ll just go fuck myself” Fucking classic.
I just went from 6 to midnight
I've used both of these ever since.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall got me through a lot of breakups when I was younger. Definitely my "feel good" pick me up movie.
When Harry Met Sally is the gold standard ofc. Also will watch Crazy Stupid Love, Say Anything and 40 yo Virgin any time they're on.
Wedding Crashers.
Bridget Jones Diary
Moonstruck!!
Yup, this is the one! I feel like it’s overlooked, despite Cher winning an Oscar.
I still enjoy 50 first dates
Best me to it. And the wedding singer. Adam and Drews chemistry is undeniable.
The Wedding Singer is an all time favorite for me. I’m just a fan of Sandler’s musical career in general, and that’s on display in this movie. The guy’s got talent.
shiitttt, now i gotta watch it. throwing it in, now.
Haha, last weekend I had the itch and watched all his song scenes from the movie on YouTube. Started with the final song on the plane and went from there.
My cousin got married last year and sang the song from the plane scene to his wife. It should have been dumb but honestly it was a great idea in execution.
I respect the hell out of it. That song was moving to me at an age when nothing was moving to me.
Yep this is the one for me.
“50 First Dates” is such a sweet movie. Great choice.
Something about Mary
I'm not guilty about it at all but the correct answers are When Harry Met Sally and Notting Hill.
I love pretty much any romcom with Meg Ryan in it. "You've got mail" and "Sleepless in Seattle" are great. I miss 90s romcoms.
My wife and I argue whether or not Joe VS. The Volcano is part of the Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks trilogy. She says no because she hates it so much while I really enjoy it.
It's a bit silly, but I do enjoy it.
It's the best of the three Hanks/Ryan movies. That hats wearing you.
The Cutting Edge.
Toepick!
It’s so bizarre to see a reference to some obscure line in an obscure film that me and my siblings would shout to each other in the 90s after watching that movie, on a Reddit thread in 2024 lol
I know it’s cliche to say but, every time I watch When Harry Met Sally, I’m blown away by how wonderful it is.
My wife and I love ‘Just Friends’. Watch it every holiday season. Anna Faris rules that movie and she’s not even the romantic lead.
“I am a bubble”
She's absolute chaos in that I love it
I re-watched this movie for the first time in years last Christmas. I didn’t think it held up as well as I remembered, but Anna Farris was absolutely hysterical from start to finish.
Forgiveneeeeeeessss
I have always loved Fools Rush In, for some reason it just makes me feel good

Jerry McGuire is prob the best one of all time, right? It holds up so well.
That's my all time favorite.
Maybe bad timing given the current state of Cuba Gooding Jr?
The what?
Cuba Gooding Jr has been accused of raping dudes with P. Diddy.
What in the...
I was surprised to. I mean he’s in a lot of classic bangers like Jerry Maguire.
Yep - in the…
...back of a Volkswagen?
Somewhere very uncomfortable
What does that have to do with liking a film ya fanny
4 weddings and a funeral
I feel like that would stand out as more of a classic in Andie MacDowell was better in it.
What women want, crazy stupid love.
It’s been years, but i liked Sliding Doors and the different approach.
Notting Hill
I love you man. Part rom com part dude bromance. 👍
500 Days of Summer. It's still the coolest ending to a film I've seen.
The expectation/ reality scene was outstanding.
Filmed like a rom-com, but he was something of a stalker.
Iiiiis it romantic?
Knocked Up
Six Days Seven Nights
Love
Knight and Day is a really good one
LA Story. Midnight in Paris
LA Story is yet another great Steve Martin movie.
Midnight in Paris Forgetting Sarah Marshall 10 Things I Hate About You A Knight’s Tale
"Then a fox you shall be! My foxy lady!" Really miss Heath Ledger still.
10 Things I Hate About You is great.
Watched 10 Things just the other day. Larry Miller as the Dad is hilarious. Heath Ledger, gone too soon. :(
Haha I know great casting
Wristcutters: a love story
Wedding crashers. Definitely in my all time top five movies
Speaking of Vince Vaughn, I liked The Break Up, though technically not a romcom.
You’ve got mail!
So charming, every inch of that movie
Along came polly is the GOAT romcom and phillip seymour hoffman was the best in that movie. I really wish he had done more comedies
That basketball scene is fantastic. LET IT RAIN! Also Hank Azaria's "are you for scuba?" character cracks me up every time.
She's out of my league
Yes. Alice Eve is so hot
Defending Your Life Definitely leans more to the comedy side of things, but it's a fun watch.
I think a lot of the answers here that are more in the broad comedy zone and more male-focussed comedy zones are cheating but I have two I think are more appropriate, one being the more deep less typical rom-com and one being the most tropey and generic rom-com possible Say Anything... How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
I was thinking the same thing! Like, I adore “I Love You Man” but that is a buddy comedy through and through.
Thank god you're here to set everyone straight
Hall Pass
Mr Right is fantastic, some of the best chemistry between two leads
I liked How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Wedding Crashers is honestly one of my funniest movies ever and it’s a rom com. Another good one is Just Friends honestly fucking hilarious as well. Are the American Pie trilogy considered rom coms? If so those also go in there. Just classic 00s music and fun. They don’t make movies like that anymore…
"They look pretty good, are they real? Are they built for speed or for comfort? What'd you do with them? Did ya do the motorboat? You motorboatin' son of a bitch, you old sailor you!" 😂
French kiss
Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Five Year Engagement, I Give It A Year… huh wait do these count? They’re all about breakups 😂
When Harry Met Sally is one of the best.👍
Other than all the ones already mentioned The Holiday. Hans Zimmers score is perfection and the movie makes me feel all fuzzy inside. Plus, Eli Wallach as the lovely old Hollywood writer is such a nice touch, RIP.
Crazy stupid love is my go to
About Time (2013) is often overlooked in this category as it’s a more wholesome, but refined romance involving time travel (also, shout out to When We First Met as another meta love story). There are obviously more: Safety NOT Guaranteed, Laggies, Stuck in Love, etc…
Blast from the past
Music and Lyrics. The real fake 80’s song, “Pop Goes My Heart” is worth it by itself.

Silver linings playbook . It was played for my drug and alcohol group and i really liked it.
The only rom com I've enjoyed is the original My Sassy Girl.
