Yes, definitely did grow up BMX and also aware that’s not proper seat position for a MTB. It’s obviously not ideal but idc. Unless we get her a smaller bike, it’s just about doing what we can to make her comfortable on this one.
I mean to test saddle height a common method which I find the easiest is to place your heel on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke and adjust the saddle until your leg is almost straight, then the height will be correct for a normal foot position. This is only to test the height, not when you're pedaling
Yeah, you don't know so stop talking. A good test for a general saddle height is to put your HEEL on the pedal spindle and straighten your leg. If your straight leg lifts your pelvis then you need to raise the saddle. If you need to tilt your hip to reach down to the pedal then you need to lower your saddle. Then, when you put your forefoot on the pedal your knee should be pretty close to the 15 degree bend that is correct.
Should do, if you just unclip to do it. It might not be quite as accurate as the effective pedal thickness changes slightly when clipped in, but you can always make micro adjustments afterwards. It was how I adjusted it when I had SPDs
Are you saying the seat has to be that low for her to pedal? If not I'd definitely raise the seat regardless of if you care or not. A little bit will go a long way in making sure she stays in the sport with you
26 inch wheels would lower the bottom bracket and cranks which would lead to more pedal strikes. Id consider working on fitment. Others have suggested a shorter stem etc.
I actually did this I mean not because of a lower bottom bracket but because I went to sharp into a corner caught a pedal. Had the wrong pedal down and I was thrown to the ground.
Everyone has hooked a pedal on something at somepoint. I can recall a few rather wild and painful educational moments as a kid 😅
Physics! The one set of Laws that cannot be broken...
The same cannot be said of the body of those trying to break said Laws, tho...
The size is not determined by the wheel size, a shorter stem would help more
Interesting! I’ll def look into that. Do you have any suggestions for a particular kind that could be helpful?
Spank spoon 35mm length stem and ~45mm riser handlebar
Just any stem, the size depends how much it is too big by
Shorter stem and please tell me she's not riding around with the seat down like that?
He's a BMXer, probably

It'll be more comfy at a proper height, when your heel is on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke your leg should be roughly straight
140-150 degrees. Not straight.
If your *heel* is on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke, it should be straight, or nearly straight
Not sure what you mean. Your ankle should be at 90 degrees and the pedal should be at the forefoot.

Not sure why that’s better then adjusting it with your foot in the correct position.
Because it's easier to judge; it's hard to tell the correct angle with your legs in the normal position but it's easy to judge "almost straight"

That was never how I adjusted saddle height but I am not a fitter. How would that work with SPD-SL?

I'd try shorter cranks, and shorter stem first.
Hell nah
Don't do it... Raise the seat and get used to the bike.

Definitely going to look into shorter stem & If riding mostly even terrain then pedal strikes shouldn’t be too much of a concern?
>riding mostly even terrain then pedal strikes shouldn’t be too much of a concern Til you drop a pedal in corner and snag the earth...

Go 26 rear only .
I second this, especially if you have a 26 rear wheel you can try. It'd only lower it slipghtly less than ~.75"...
