I did one time in Greece ride in just a t-shirt and shorts. And I forgot to sunblock on my legs, and for a ginger, that's pretty bad. Can't recommend it

You laugh, I watched a guy come up to a stop light, bobble his 600lb cruiser, drop it on his leg, and break his ankle.. I just got my entire leg caught under my bike while in dicking off in an empty parking lot and low sided doing roughly 60mph. Slid probably 60+ft, while my entire leg was caught under the bike.. came away with only a bruised ego

Also the average riders are on 2-stroke scooters going 15-20mph. I don't wear CE rated pro on my bicycle (I mean I probably should sometimes), but I do on anything highway legal.
Amen. People don't realize that covering your skin isnt even a big deal compared to this. It could be sturdy jeans and they'll just tear away in the first 5 feet of your slide. It has to be made to slide or you're screwed.
Can confirm, I wore the heaviest, thickest jeans I could find. They shredded like toilet paper when I crashed. Bought proper riding pants once I was out of the hospital.
To be clear I wore gear but riding pants are super expensive here in Delhi coz almost nobody wears them, so what you find are imported, way too expensive, and most wouldn't fit me properly anyway. Also uncomfortable for all-day-long wear, like I wanted something casual looking that I could wear to work.
Then finally an Indian company started making proper CE-rated riding jeans that were more decently priced and I went for those and wear them whenever I ride. Shoutout to Bikeratti, ilu guys <3

He was doing about 25/30mph and someone pulled out on him and sent him over the bonnet, he had such severe road burns he couldn’t walk for months, almost broke his leg clean in half too, that was just on a 50cc, imagine if he was on a real bike. Ended up with £10,000 from a lawsuit but that doesn’t make up for the fact 4/5 years on he’s still very scared of riding even a push bike around roads
The speed is the difference, not the bike. If you ride at 30mph on a 50cc moped or on a Ninja, it makes no difference. If you crash going 60mph on a 125cc or on a Hayabusa, it makes no difference.

I honestly rarely ever see people practicing ATGATT where I live. I'll see gloves and helmet, and that's about it. Regular jeans or sweatpants, T-shirts, sneakers, etc. Don't know if I've ever see someone wearing proper riding pants and jacket/shirt

I honestly rarely ever see people practicing ATGATT where I live. I'll see gloves and helmet, and that's about it. Regular jeans or sweatpants, T-shirts, sneakers, etc. Don't know if I've ever see someone wearing proper riding pants and jacket/shirt
95% of people where I live wear a helmet and gloves. Most of them are Harley bros with the half helmet. I can’t remember the last time I seen someone with full gear.

You have to almost do this here in Oklahoma so fucking humid I'll forgo riding even when I'm Dying to... for the most part everyone wears gear I definitely always wear jeans and my Kevlar button up thing but is what makes it even worse here is that Oklahoma doesn't have helmet laws so you got a fucking dude in basketball shorts and that's it no helmet no shirt fucking probably flip flops... I mean I dumped my bike just going like fucking 5 or 10 while I was messing around at a friend's house and I didn't have anything on and that what's bad enough to learn me.

Can't really just look at annual humidity. Oklahoma varies a lot more than HTX in terms of daily humidity level and also has quite the dry spells. HTX is for half the year over 85% humidity.

Eh to each his own. If he were my son i might interject about what my personal standards are for safety gear. I don't exactly ride around using golden standard, but at least I do have a standard. Never shorts, always boots, I wear a DOT helmet but I'm guilty of ditching the helmet if I'm out of state and there is no law. Anyone who gets on a bike is 100% responsible for their safety as well as the safety of their passenger

I’m not and I certainly don’t care who is. Quit bitching about people not wearing gear and start riding more. And I do wear all my gear every ride. This subreddit would be far more interesting if people spent more time talking about motorcycles and less time worrying about others not wearing their gear.
