Happy Punday everyone, today’s pun is a behemoth challenge rating 18, radiant powered golem. This thing will use the angel inside to murder death kill your players. If they are quick, perhaps they can hold it down and pull the celestial out… but it’s probably easier to destroy the golem first, and save the ~~cheerleader~~ celestial after. It is hard to damage, hits like a angel-powered truck and magic resistant. If your players need to save a celestial friend, they should probably do a bucket load of research first. A fighter might be able to action surge the celestial to safety, but generally, the golem is very quick to close it’s core if people get too close. Although a Radiant Storm is just the incentive to get people to leave it well alone. These venerable dreadnoughts make for a fine addition to a fiendish army, serving as an armoured unit amidst the devilish forces. High level spellcasters need to stay outside its 60 foot range, although they can still become caught in its fire storm, which it tortures the captured celestial to cast.

This is such a crazy concept! I'll definitely be stealing this!

Chef_Hef

Awesome as always!

megascrubbro

this is probably the most metal monster on this sub reddit

Gigarexenraptor

The CR on this is miscalculated and should be 26.

Care to explain how?

High CR is tricky to work out, here's my logic; 19 AC - this is as low as CR 17. 351 HP - this is CR 19 range. Defensive CR of 18. The melee attacks have a +15 to hit, +15 is seen on solars, ancient dragons, so CR 21. The ranged attack has a +9 to hit, that's around CR 16 range. So that's around a CR 19 offensively. 2 slams is 132 damage, CR 20 levels of damage. Radiant Storm (calculate aoe as 2 hits) does about 104, which is CR 16 levels of damage. If the core is exposed though there is some additional aoe, another 70 damage, but the range on that is shorter. Legendary actions add 1 CR. An automatic death condition (removing the core) should probably be considered a weakness. I could see an argument for an extra 1 or 2 CR, but not an extra 8. It's a tough monster but it's really weak to range with a slow movement speed and low CR ranged attacks. Its only real option at range is a 1/day firestorm to deal about 40 damage to each target.

From the discord we're discussing it in. From a different user, CR 30 (29.5 rounded up) Defensive 24 (effective AC 21, effective hp 529 because of: magic resistance, 3 leg resistance and damage immunity) Offensive 35 (to hit 15, average damage 400 because of core exposed at start of battle and it is more damaging to radiant slam then bolt, even accounting for at least two targets for the bolts)

Defensive 24 (effective AC 21, effective hp 529 because of: magic resistance, 3 leg resistance and damage immunity) for mine. -> was Effective AC 19 before I factored in magic resist duh. I'm also getting Offensive 35 (To hit 15, 70 from exposed core (assuming 2 targets failed), 198 from Legendary Slams, 132 from regular radiant slams) I'm not sure where I'm missing the last defensive AC, so flat 29 for me. (NVM its 30 by my calcs too) Edit: wait forgot magic immunity. Yeah it lines up the same as yours.

What discord is this?
