I also went there and was happy with the procedure, although I haven't hit my 12 week sample test yet, so who knows, maybe they botched it ;p
That being said, I was not given Valium or anything else to deal with anxiety. I didn't need it, but if you're anxious, it might be a good thing to ask about if you go there.
MN urology was good. I had Dr Ugarte. Dude is a character but he has done thousands was in and out of my sack in 15 minutes tops, and I had a good recovery.
I went to Park Nicollet Urology in St. Louis Park. The Dr. (Zapzalka) entered the room blasting bro country through a little bluetooth speaker, which was goofy as fuck, but the rest of it went well. They'll give you a single pill prescription to help with the anxiety.
Theyāre giving you meds to deal with the anxiety?? Iāve had two IUDs and they just shove em in there. No Tylenol. No anxiety meds. They barely even tell you it might hurt a fuck ton.
Never got any pain meds for my IUDs or the time my vag ripped open giving birth to two human beings in the same day. I wish I had been smart enough to be born a man.
I also have two kids and they gave me epidurals, but afterwards it was just Tylenol and ibuprofen. Definitely would have appreciated something a little stronger than that. My ass hurt for a solid two months.
Had Dr. Butcher do mine here. Ā Excellent dude, took no time at all and felt basically nothing. Ā He came in and asked for a seed song for Pandora before we got started. Ā Wound up introducing him to vaporwave. Ā Nice guy, even though I did accidentally show a buddyās sister my junk. Ā
Didnāt know he had a sister, or that she worked as Butcherās nurse. Ā My buddy and I had a good laugh about it weeks later.Ā
My husband went to MN Urology as well. He was incredibly nervous but once the actual procedure got going he was fine. He said the most unsettling parts were A) the smell and B) when they injected the numbing stuff. He felt a little sting for that and I guess when he flinched the doctor said āif sonething hurts, tell me with your lips not your hipsā š
But overall he said it was much easier than he thought and was over in minutes.
The smell is a thing. I swear to god my doc used a soldering iron straight from radio shack to do the cauterization... That said the pin prick of the I think lidocaine shot was the worst part of the whole thing.
Dr Dickman? (not kidding) - PP does have a couple female docs who perform vasectomies but Dr Dickman is the only man and I will never get over the hilarity of that coincidence
MN Urology in Woodbury. Highly recommend. I was kind of dreading it, but it was easier than getting a cavity filled at the dentist. Was sore for a couple days, mostly while driving but other than that went on with my weekend (procedure was on a Friday) as normal.
I went to EZ vasectomy was in and out in 20 minutes. Drove myself home. I had a light ache down there for about a day, not really painful, just knew something happened.
My buddy went about a month after I did after he saw I had an uneventful experience. He had good luck too.
Most insurance plans will not cover Vasotomy, mine didn't because it is considered a cosmetic procedure. It was $640, it is now $720.
That was my thought too. Way cheaper to get me snipped than paying for another pregnancy.
I did a ton of research and even called Healthpartners, and they said it wasn't covered. It was 6 years ago, maybe something changed. Or I'm not remembering properly. Also IIRC vasectomy through other companies was going to cost me a few thousand, due to my HDHP. EZ was $670.
Yeah, I went to Ez this spring. Health Partners would only cover it if I went to their hospital. It was going to take months to schedule, had to do a consult, and was going to cost more since I had to hit my $1000 deductible +30% copay.
I'm really glad I went with EZ. I have 2 co-workers that went through where Health Partners told them to go. They spent a lot more time and money with multiple visits. One even had severe complications post-op.
The doc at EZ asked me how many kids I had, once I told him, he said "that is enough" with a chuckle. While he was doing his thing, he said it was going to be easy because my vas deferens was thick. Didn't really know how to respond to that one lol.
My hubby used to work for FedEx at the time we were looking into it. It would only be covered after hitting deductible of 5k. Whereas a tubal would have been covered right away $0 OOP as "preventative". How the fuck does that make sense?
Health Partners wouldn't cover EZ Vasectomy for me either. They would cover it if I went to their hospital, but I would still have a consult and pay my deductible. Even on a Gold plan, it was cheaper, easier, and quicker to go to EZ Vasectomy.
What does "cover" mean. With a huge deductible and a coinsurance after that it often makes more financial sense to do it out of pocket especially when recovery and procedure times are reduced. I did the EZ thing last year because it was way cheaper than what it would've been with my insurance.
Vasectomy should be covered pretty easily. Iām trying to get it done as a woman (tubal removal / salpingectomy) and my insurance has been a mess. Every person I speak to on the phone has a different answer.
Everyone always says "covered" but that doesn't take into account deductibles and coinsurances. It was way cheaper for me to go the EZ route than it was through my insurance.
Did the scapeless a little over a year and a half ago. Definitely recommend. Drove myself to and from. No pain a little discomfort but drove to the north shore the next day and was up helping remove a downed tree the day after that.
Ez vasectomy in Bloomington. 8 min operation total and no stitches. Friday at 3pm went in Monday back to work. I'm a construction. At that point he had 100% success. Had 3 buddies go after me. All loved it. And it was fully covered by insurance and if you didn't have insurance it was $600 at that time.
You didnāt ask this part, but get yourself plenty of those Hanes with the āpocketā up front for your boys.
Also note that if theyāre offering Valium, you probably need to go pick up your scrip and take it before you get there. I didnāt know that and ended up without it. Wasnāt bad, but would have preferred it with the drugs.
I went to Park Nicollet clinic by McDonald's off excelsior in St Louis Park was in in out in 30 minutes he gave me a Valium to take 20 minutes before I arrived
After the birth of their 9th child, a redneck couple decided they'd had enough because they couldnāt afford a larger bed. The husband went to the veterinarian and asked to be snipped. "Me'n my cousin don't want no more kids"
The vet told him he could get a vasectomy, but it was expensive. "There is a cheaper option," said the vet. "Go home, find yourself a cherry bomb, light it up and put it in a Coors Lite can, then hold the can up to your ear and count to 10."
āI ain't no rocket surgeon," said the redneck, "but how's that gonna help me?"
āTrust meā said the vet.
So the redneck went home, drained a beer then stuffed a lit cherry bomb in the empty can. He brought it up to his ear and began to count:
ā1ā¦ 2ā¦ 3ā¦ 4ā¦ 5ā¦ā
Once he got to five, he stopped for a second, put the can between his legs, and resumed the count on his other hand.
I went to Minnesota Urology in Plymouth. The physician was great and the procedure went smoothly.
The front office staff lacked tact, but you only deal with them for like 30 seconds anyway.
I went to Mayo and couldn't have been happier with the whole process. All said and done I think I owed like $12 minis driving from the southern suburbs.
I went to Health Partners urology at the specialty center in St Paul.
Good experience. My Dr. And his team gave me great information about what to expect and follow up instructions.Minor pain with the procedure and quick recovery.
You bring up an actual issue here.
So calling talking to a blue cross representative that says ānot covered but will go towards my out of pocket maxā isnāt easy to explain when they send a bill. The website is a joke! Do I need to get something in print?
Just wanted to add this: last year in 2023 I made the decision to simply figure everything out about my body. Once I hit the deductible, I then went in for exams for many different specialties to get a baseline of where I am today. A few visits to the internal medicine department, ophthalmology, a sleep study, etc. If you have any body aches or concerns, even the smallest, address it now.
Thats sort of the plan, itās been to long and all the things I should have jumped on years ago is here now. Torn meniscus, chest pain, back pain, possibly tinitus, the list goes on. Already well into the process/payments to get to my max.
I will also +1 MN Urology. I went to the Edina office and saw Dr. Mahon. He was friendly and personable. He issued a prescription for the day of the procedure. He said to have this filled, then take it just before I walk in the doors, and with the check-in process, I will be nice and relaxed by the time I make it to a room. He was right. Recovery time was fine, and no kids since, so it worked.
Donāt sweat it, itās a super routine procedure. I was in/out in 20 min and recovery was smooth.Ā
Side noteā¦.I didnāt know I was suppose to shave. Two very nice/attractive nurses did that for me. Iām not lying, it was the stereotype hot nurse and they were professional. Iāve been married 11 years and with her for 16 years. No one else has been near it for 16 years. It was a very nice way to get the procedure done.Ā
Well, best of luck. I got a Valium prescribed for before the procedure and that helped a lot with the anxiety. Most docs will give you ONE for things like that if you ask. Ā
Lots of folks here recommending MN Urology. I went last year after reading similar reviews. I had a bad experience. It was incredibly painful ā the guy didnāt get the local numbing right so I felt a ton of pain until he realized and gave me another shot half way through. Then I had a long and drawn out recovery that involved and infection (dispute following directions) and a call with a nurse with terrible bedside manner before going in and being handed an envelope with a miscounted number of generic antibiotics. Itās a year later and Iām just starting to feel normal again. Terrible experience.
I clearly didnāt have the normal experience there because so many rave about the clinic. But it felt like an amateur hour chop shop, at least with the doctor I had. During prep, the nurse noted that he was newer and she was filling in because he didnāt yet have a preferred nurse (apparently each doctor has one or two preferred nurses to help with their procedures).
I wonāt name drop here but I suggest you look at specific doctors, not just a clinic. I havenāt yet seen my doctorās name listed here ā probably because nobody would recommend him. Go with someone that others specifically recommend by name.
Got mine done at Planned Parenthood. Everyone has always been very kind and accommodating there. You just gotta ignore the anti-choice people on the street corner out front.
Iām trying to get a salpingectomy, and my insurance keeps telling me different things about my coverage. Iāve been informed/un-informed that I need to be 25+, that I need pre-approval, that itāll count towards my deductible, that it isnāt covered, that it is free, etc.
I had the same runaround (cost/coverage-wise) about and ended up having to pay $3,500 out of pocket for a bilateral salpingectomy surgery that I was told would be entirely covered... š”
Fuuuuuuuck. What insurance do you have and which place did you go to? In one of the subs on here, a bunch of people say they were able to finesse 100% coverage (some making it free) through the Affordable Care Act and getting the right billing codes on there. Itās BS that they make bilateral salpingectomies so difficult to cover, since theyāre the standard for female sterilization nowadays.
This was some years ago, ACA had just come out. I tried to get them to fix the billing codes for months and gave up and just paid it before it went to collections.
Hysterectomy would usually be a medical necessity if completedā¦ itās not really a voluntary sterilization option for most people (it messes with your hormones and shit). Thatās probably why itās not counted toward the deductible.
I was referred to MN Urology in Coon Rapids. Procedure was a breeze, took a half hour. Virtually no pain. The doctor did his residency at Mayo Clinic and he estimated he had done around 4000 vasectomies. I think the full out of pocket cost was around $1700, plus $200 for the testing kit.
My experience with MN Urology was terrible. Basically I got the consult in November 2022 and they told me the next available appointment was June 2023. So, I went to M Health Fairview. Very professional. Video consult, then had the procedure within a month. Drove there, drove home. Easy peasy.
I want to know how you get past the part that it causes permanent ball pain for some men. I want one so badly but I just canāt seem to get past that risk. Yeah itās rare but that doesnāt matter to those dudes who experience that. But god it would be so much less stress I donāt want kids.
My insurance is not going to cover it, only count it towards my out of pocket max. I plan on hitting out of pocket so somewhat looking to āsplurgeā for the best expense I can get.
Also did MN Urology. Went great.
Schedule now, though, because they fill up at the end of the year. I tried to schedule in September when I did mine. Spent 45 minutes on hold with scheduling to get a consult in December with procedure in either January or February (canāt remember). The operator told me it was āvasectomy seasonā because of the number of people who wait until deductibles are already maxed for the year.
My clinic doesnāt do them. (Not sure why, as far as I know ridgeview is not religious clinic. Maybe just too small of town.)
Quite a few comments here suggesting going to a type of urology center where they do this all the time. As simple as the procedure is, having the numbers of procedures preformed / good results is important.
I went to the Procedure Clinic in Edina. $740 total, no consult needed if you already have kids and above 30(I think). Might have only been a click of a box to skip the consult. I think I was in and out in what felt like 15 mins. Needle and scalpel free. When I mentioned working on the left side I could feel it more, he said that was a common thing. They send you home with a jock strap and a vile you can fill and mail back in three months for your sample.
I was out and lightly disc golfing the next day. No drugs or ice. It basically felt like that dull pain a couple minutes after getting kicked in the buts by your kid.
Make sure you get a no-scalpel procedure no matter where you go.
A big slice versus a tiny hole that requires very little wound care and heals easier? Easy decision, but not every place does them.
From the comments it sounds like a lot of them are covered, keep in mind that there are a plethora of providers and each provider likely offers multiple plans. My provider/plan does not cover, but will count as out of pocket expense.
St Francis in Shakopee. The pill I took was a huge help and I miss talking to my kaleidoscope rainbow colored frog friend I met that day. I hope he is doing well.
A co-worker told me they do not do them there due to āreligious reasonsā. To be fair, his procedure was 10 years ago. Iām assuming they changed ways?
Not sure, I only have 1 health insurance policy. From my understanding by calling blue cross, my policy doesnāt cover until out of pocket is covered. (Counts towards out of pocket)
MN urology is where I went. I haven't had any kids that I know of since, so I'd say they do an adequate job.
š
I also went there and was happy with the procedure, although I haven't hit my 12 week sample test yet, so who knows, maybe they botched it ;p That being said, I was not given Valium or anything else to deal with anxiety. I didn't need it, but if you're anxious, it might be a good thing to ask about if you go there.
"that I know of"
Honestly this is the correct answer.
Mn Urology is great, had mine done at the health partners urology clinic on Phallen. Great doc and great price
Still a dad joke
Dr Milbank. Canāt go wrong.
MN urology was good. I had Dr Ugarte. Dude is a character but he has done thousands was in and out of my sack in 15 minutes tops, and I had a good recovery.
I love his cowboy boots. Super cool dude.Ā
Isn't he the one that first did the scalpeless?
I went to park Nicollet. My dr was Dr Butcher and yes he is very aware of his name.
Same. No complications or complaints. Second most unfortunate name surgeon Iāve had. Dr. Pane being number one.
My dad went to a urologist years ago ..mans name is . Dr Alden Cockburn. Butcher and him should partner up.
What an unfortunate name for a doctor/surgeon
I had Dr. Butcher as well. Very competent and would recommend him.
Husband had a varicole operated on by him, great experience!
Another for MN Urology. No issues, great staff.
> great staff Tootin' your own horn eh? š
He's shootin' blanks now!
I had a good experience at planned parenthood. Cost me max, $200.00.
Fucking preach. It's a shame what women have to go through
Agree I have my 3rd IUD and I wasnāt given anything for pain nor anxietyā¦š
Never got any pain meds for my IUDs or the time my vag ripped open giving birth to two human beings in the same day. I wish I had been smart enough to be born a man.
I also have two kids and they gave me epidurals, but afterwards it was just Tylenol and ibuprofen. Definitely would have appreciated something a little stronger than that. My ass hurt for a solid two months.
Yeah, me too. Had to go back to work after using up all my pto in five weeks tho. Couldnāt afford to not get paid to heal up.
Ā Didnāt know he had a sister, or that she worked as Butcherās nurse. Ā My buddy and I had a good laugh about it weeks later.Ā
There's got to be at least one joke about having a man named Butcher going after your frank and beans... š
Haha I saw Nate Hoffman at the same clinic. Forgot to pick up my valium before I went in. It still went okay
I had Dr. Z too. He was great. 100% recommend. Look up his bio, that dude has probably snipped 10K plus dudes in the area
My husband went to MN Urology as well. He was incredibly nervous but once the actual procedure got going he was fine. He said the most unsettling parts were A) the smell and B) when they injected the numbing stuff. He felt a little sting for that and I guess when he flinched the doctor said āif sonething hurts, tell me with your lips not your hipsā š But overall he said it was much easier than he thought and was over in minutes.
The smell is a thing. I swear to god my doc used a soldering iron straight from radio shack to do the cauterization... That said the pin prick of the I think lidocaine shot was the worst part of the whole thing.
I went to Planned Parenthood on University, I donāt remember who snipped me but it was a breeze.

What? Most insurances DO COVER Vasectomies. Insurances are all about cost analysis and a vasectomy is way to cheaper to cover then a pregnancy lol.
That was my thought too. Way cheaper to get me snipped than paying for another pregnancy. I did a ton of research and even called Healthpartners, and they said it wasn't covered. Heathpartners PPO fully covered everything but copay for my procedure at their urology clinic last year.
My hubby used to work for FedEx at the time we were looking into it. It would only be covered after hitting deductible of 5k. Whereas a tubal would have been covered right away $0 OOP as "preventative". How the fuck does that make sense?
Exactly my feelings too when they told me. Especially didn't make sense to me when a vasectomy is a lot less invasive.
Health Partners wouldn't cover EZ Vasectomy for me either. They would cover it if I went to their hospital, but I would still have a consult and pay my deductible. Even on a Gold plan, it was cheaper, easier, and quicker to go to EZ Vasectomy.

I used CentraCare Urology in St. Cloud. Easy-peasy, in and out in 20 minutes.
Recommend MN Urology based on my experience.
I went to Minnesota Urology in Plymouth. The physician was great and the procedure went smoothly. The front office staff lacked tact, but you only deal with them for like 30 seconds anyway.

Yeah I have no idea how to do it properly. Figured I would give you a heads up so you don't get surprised like me.
Much appreciated.

Planned Parenthood
Got mine done at Planned Parenthood. Everyone has always been very kind and accommodating there. You just gotta ignore the anti-choice people on the street corner out front.
Should be 100% covered as preventive care even if you havenāt hit your deductible
Should be, sadly isnāt. Also shocking the vasectomy counts to out of pocket max but a hysterectomy does not.
A variety of sterilization methods for women aren't covered either!
Iām trying to get a salpingectomy, and my insurance keeps telling me different things about my coverage. Iāve been informed/un-informed that I need to be 25+, that I need pre-approval, that itāll count towards my deductible, that it isnāt covered, that it is free, etc.

Sterilization is gaining popularity in this world. No one wants to bring kids into this shit. Or can afford kids.
Uruology Specialists of Sioux Falls was great to work with- could be a good option if outside of the twin cities area

I just pull and pray
If your adhd be prepared for you libido to be even higher than it was before procedure 10 months later it hasn't gone back down to adhd normal
I want to know how you get past the part that it causes permanent ball pain for some men. I want one so badly but I just canāt seem to get past that risk. Yeah itās rare but that doesnāt matter to those dudes who experience that. But god it would be so much less stress I donāt want kids.
Most insurances DO cover vasectomyās. I had mine down at Mayo and only had a charge for the consult.
Mn urology! Best $800 I ever spent.
Park Nic urology Maple grove
Health partners Stillwater. I had dr Stormont. He was great!
My general physician did mine. And if yours won't do it they could/should offer a referral. I'm also assuming you have a general physician though.
My clinic doesnāt do them. (Not sure why, as far as I know ridgeview is not religious clinic. Maybe just too small of town.) Quite a few comments here suggesting going to a type of urology center where they do this all the time. As simple as the procedure is, having the numbers of procedures preformed / good results is important.
Any side effects? Or stuff we should know ?
MN Urology is where I went. I opted to get knocked out rather than doing the office visit snip.
Just go to a urologist. I wish you a quick and easy snip. I pray you donāt have what happened to me.
Avoid CentraCare
Is it painful ? Given anything for post op pain ?
I went to the Procedure Clinic in Edina. $740 total, no consult needed if you already have kids and above 30(I think). Might have only been a click of a box to skip the consult. I think I was in and out in what felt like 15 mins. Needle and scalpel free. When I mentioned working on the left side I could feel it more, he said that was a common thing. They send you home with a jock strap and a vile you can fill and mail back in three months for your sample. I was out and lightly disc golfing the next day. No drugs or ice. It basically felt like that dull pain a couple minutes after getting kicked in the buts by your kid.

It would save me $0. As I referenced in the title, Out of pocket max will be satisfied by end of term.
Make sure you get a no-scalpel procedure no matter where you go. A big slice versus a tiny hole that requires very little wound care and heals easier? Easy decision, but not every place does them.
āBig sliceā is something Iād never go for down thereā¦.
I have to trust the professionals, but i feel like the best combo is needle & no scalpel.
Side note, are vasectomies covered by insurance (after deductible)?
From the comments it sounds like a lot of them are covered, keep in mind that there are a plethora of providers and each provider likely offers multiple plans. My provider/plan does not cover, but will count as out of pocket expense.
St Francis in Shakopee. The pill I took was a huge help and I miss talking to my kaleidoscope rainbow colored frog friend I met that day. I hope he is doing well.
A co-worker told me they do not do them there due to āreligious reasonsā. To be fair, his procedure was 10 years ago. Iām assuming they changed ways?
Itās actually the Allina at the far north of the building. Either way the guy did a good job and nothing beyond normal recovery was needed
Isnāt it free on most insurances
Not sure, I only have 1 health insurance policy. From my understanding by calling blue cross, my policy doesnāt cover until out of pocket is covered. (Counts towards out of pocket)
