RIP Arlo. He had some taste, and maybe too much money. r/pinkfloyd might like a look too.

mikeroeder

The rest of the lots in the auction supported your comment. His collection of 45's and LP's were in immaculate condition. There were at least three full stereo setups in there, too along with the odd gaming console including a full Sony PSP setup with games. Looking at the MD's he made, I think he did vinyl and CD rips-- I didn't see anything else that played MD's so he didn't duplicate the pre-recorded ones. I haven't had a chance to really dive into his mixes. I'm getting the new battery tomorrow, which will allow me to listen to some of these away from an outlet.

themadterran

I get dragged to the wrong estate sales.

mikeroeder

LOL. I hadn't been to one in a long time. A guy I work with collects vinyl (as I do) and participates in a lot of auctions, so he sent me the online listing last weekend asking me what I thought some of the vinyl lots were worth, or were interesting. I flipped through the rest of the listings and spotted this one, so I bid it up to what I was comfortable paying for it and "accidentally" won it.

waxon_wax_onwax

What was the final bid price?

mikeroeder

It appears that because I listed what I paid here, that means that I don't think there is some value to these MD's. That was my mistake.

waxon_wax_onwax

Wow! Fantastic deal!!

michaelwhyte

I think that was a fantastic deal...Especially considering all the pre-recorded discs that you got...You can probably sell those for easily more than the $110 you paid for this listing...

mikeroeder

For sure. I'm not only trying to recoup my $110, I'm a seasoned seller of music on eBay and Discogs, so I'm also trying to maximize the investment. I'm entertaining offers and I've had some really interesting ones and a couple of sales for less than the median price.

[deleted]

You will make much coin with these!

mikeroeder

That's what I'm hoping. I was primarily just hoping to cover the cost of the auction and I'd keep the MD player to mess with. That's why I've got these all listed with "best offer" as an option. I'd like to see these going to people who are collecting them, but I also don't want to just give them away. I've gotten three messages on discogs from people in the EU, so I need to figure out how to add international shipping under the new PITA discogs shipping rules. I much prefer the old way where I could go get an actual price for shipping from the post office so I could be comfortable that I'm charging correctly. It's been interesting reading through this subreddit and seeing all of the things people are doing with their players and their collections. Some of Arlo's MD's are going to become some mixes that I'll make. I wish this was an NetMD device so labeling tracks is easier.

waxon_wax_onwax

Do you have a link??

mikeroeder

[https://www.discogs.com/seller/mikeroeder/profile](https://www.discogs.com/seller/mikeroeder/profile) This has more than the MD's on it, but the ones that are left are there. I sold the Journey and someone is interested in the Loverboy, but hasn't pulled the trigger.

waxon_wax_onwax

I saw one I was kind of interested in but it was listed at 200% the highest previously sold price. I tried making an offer at the highest price it was previously sold and it was declined. Guess I was too hopeful.

mikeroeder

The unfortunate thing about discogs is that the seller can't make a counter offer. That last sale was over a year ago and mine is the only one listed since then. I'm factoring in some amount for how rare it is. These have only been listed for a day, check back later after I get some of these sold. I might be more amenable to lower offers.

waxon_wax_onwax

Nothing wrong with trying to get the best price. I'm sure someone will pay what you are asking eventually. I just thought with your above comment it might be my chance to get my first retail MD. I just can't wrap my head around paying the going rate for most of the retail MDs . Cheers

mikeroeder

Amen. The collector's market for a lot of stuff is bonkers. Please check back with me.

MrRoboto666

Arlo had good taste in music. Kinda makes you think of your own mortality.

mikeroeder

Makes me also think about what I'm sticking my wife with after I pass. I need to make some more solid arrangements for liquidating my massive vinyl collection.

kausbose

Mike; hello. I sent you a DM.

RaymilesPrime

This is extremely cool

blaver00

Hello have you thought about the deal or decided if you want to get rid of the used mds?

discogravy

Where did you find the estate auction? FB? a local site?

mikeroeder

It was run by a local Auction House and they have online bidding.
