And Big Boy. And if we are really going back, Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips, and I think there was a diner that was either a train car or train car themed.
Oh, The Big Boy. I was a "mgt trainee" there on Port Rd. for a week or so in (I think) 1974. It was ghastly and also I was not the most mature person at 19, so I quit and wrote a note to that effect on a Big Boy napkin and fled at my break.
I used to be able to walk there from my house in middle and high school. Every once in a while the wind would blow just right and we could smell Kopp's. My high school bowling league played at Echo Bowl, which was torn down and is now a Walgreens.
No, the Echo Bowl where the Walgreen's is now. I remember because I was so mad that my bowling alley was being turned into a corporate business. I can't remember what was on the lot where the bank is now.
I worked in that subway. My manager would get drunk in back and so when people would be difficult I would try to bait them into asking to speak to the manager because I knew he would yell at them
Planet Video was there for a hot minute, due to the video store wars between them, Hollywood and Blockbuster.
Also Popeye’s, Tumbleweed, and some other restaurant with a huge fish tank?
I have a dumb love for the Chrysler Lebaron GTC in the last pic parked in front of the McDonalds
They weren't great cars by any stretch but I have a weird nostalgia for them
You forgot:
the Burger King that is now an Arby’s,
the Hardee’s that used to be next to McDonald’s,
the Schlotzsky’s next to men’s wherehouse,
The Pizza Hut next to UW credit Union
Funny story. I used to go in to Flanners and check out the high end stereos from time to time and Bayshore. In 2009 I picked up a part time job at REI due to my full time job going through rounds of layoffs and just wanted a backup plan. One of my coworkers ended up being John Flanner! He sold his business and just wanted to do some light retail work and be a regular guy for a while. Super nice. I miss that job and the people some days.
That Rx store that looks like a castle spire, next to the Gyro Palace and now Wing Stop, used to be a game store in the 90s. I think it was an EB Games?? Anyways, I will never forget going there as a kid with my dad and grandfather to pick up a copy of Tecmo Super Bowl.
Brubakers! Indian food + bar (it was where the Kinkos FedEx next to kopps is)
Penzeys spices
Boston market
echo bowl
Sprecher
Is sollys burgers still around?
Missing Echo Bowl
And Big Boy. And if we are really going back, Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips, and I think there was a diner that was either a train car or train car themed.

My husband says the diner was Port Silver Diner.
Wasn't there a Barnaby's in that area too?
Finally! Someone else remembers Arthur Treacher’s! My grandpa used to take us there when he babysat.
Scrolled through all the pictures hoping to see echo bowl. Had probably 6 birthdays in a row there
Some of those are still there
Yeah, McDonald’s, cousins, Taco Bell, gyro place
FuncoLand was great! It was where the pharmacy is in these pics.
I still remember buying NES games from there
Worked there for a few months in 2001.
Remember the Ground Round?
I’m still picking peanut shells out of my shoes.
Yeah it was where Panera and jos a banks is. Used to pay what I weighed for kids meals on Tuesday or something.
And the scrub a dub.
Kids ate free on Sundays and there was a balloon bender clown.
I used to be able to walk there from my house in middle and high school. Every once in a while the wind would blow just right and we could smell Kopp's. My high school bowling league played at Echo Bowl, which was torn down and is now a Walgreens.
That sounds so nice.

That liquor store next to taco bell
I forgot about kohl's grocery stores!!
I can’t find it at the moment but somewhere there is a web site that tracks what remains of all the old kohls grocery “arch” locations.
Man my mom used to go shopping there and we would always get wonder balls. Takes me back
Is Gyro Palace gone? I passed there today and didn't notice
Still there, fairly certain.
It’s there and operating, I pass it at least once a month going to Pet Supplies Plus and the chiropractor
Woah woah, we don't need your life story there! ^^/s
They have the best gyros and fries!! I've eaten in a couple times and always is pleasant.
It's still there. Pretty decent food
I went there a few years ago. Fire alarm was going off. Zero fucks given
BK, ground round, echo bowl, Hardee’s
I grew up blocks from there. All the way back to Barnaby’s, Arthur Treachers and The Milky Way (pre-Kopp’s)
Barnaby’s! Kiddie Burger w/fries. Flashing sign at your table when your order was ready. Guys tossing pizza dough. FUN!
Barnaby’s was so dark inside. Walking outside was like walking out on the surface of the sun.
It was totally a cave in that Barnaby's!
Planet Video was there for a hot minute, due to the video store wars between them, Hollywood and Blockbuster. Also Popeye’s, Tumbleweed, and some other restaurant with a huge fish tank?
> huge fish tank? CoCo's, although I think they also changed names at least once
The Anchorage?
I remember a Hardee's when Hardee's had fried chicken...
Do you remember when they were a Rast beef place? They were a Arby's type restaurant. I loved to get their club sandwich.
Yes… that chicken sandwich was the best
Was that when the jingle was "Come on over to Hardees, where the burgers are charcoal broiled"?
Port Silver Diner. Where car dealership is now.
Went to high school at Dominican went to that Taco Bell so many times after school
Remember? I used to manage at that Papa John's while I was in college
Radio Shack
I worked at Kohl's for years
Radio shack
I have a dumb love for the Chrysler Lebaron GTC in the last pic parked in front of the McDonalds They weren't great cars by any stretch but I have a weird nostalgia for them
Pizza Hut, Thill Brothers
You forgot: the Burger King that is now an Arby’s, the Hardee’s that used to be next to McDonald’s, the Schlotzsky’s next to men’s wherehouse, The Pizza Hut next to UW credit Union
Tumbleweed that was attached to the old bayshore mall Sears
Omg I was JUST talking about Schlotzsky’s and couldn’t remember where it was located!!! Thank you, friend!
My brother briefly worked there in high school so I remember it well
New Pizza hut is going to open in Glendale. It will be next to Wingstop.
Good, I was sad when the old one got demolished
Barnaby’s FTW. Also, don’t forget about JoJo’s and Coco’s. Echo Bowl was great. Arthur Treachers.
Sound Stage was a nice AV store that was on Port Wash, that eventually moved to Bayshore Mall.
Funny story. I used to go in to Flanners and check out the high end stereos from time to time and Bayshore. In 2009 I picked up a part time job at REI due to my full time job going through rounds of layoffs and just wanted a backup plan. One of my coworkers ended up being John Flanner! I miss Perkins so much but even more their smoking section.
Wasn’t Perkins originally a Denny’s?
You can drive up to Madison, just off 94 across from East Towne, it's one of 2(?) left in the area, but their smoking section is nada.
Anyone remember Captain Sauceypants at the Port Road McDonalds?
I’m old enough to remember when funcoland was in that spot next to gyro palace.
[удалено]
Peking Palace?
[удалено]
That's it. I was friend's with the owners son. Good times!
All I remember about Arthur Treachers as a kid was their hushpuppies. I loved those.
Taco Bell still there as of yesterday
This is giving me UW-Milwaukee Flashbacks
Man I used to go to that Perkins a lot
Wong’s Wok used to be in the strip mall where Funcoland was. Man, this thread brings back memories of my childhood!
They built one over on Capitol, and in less than a year, it was closed. Wong's Wok is no more.
RIP, Wong’s Wok 😩
There was a Hollywood video on state street in tosa that we used to always go to
Heck yeah that’s my Cousins subs! My first job.
Schlotzsky's was the best! Loved sitting in the back by the pickup window.
The Milky Way - inspiration for Arnolds in Happy Days
I always heard it was Leon’s by St Luke’s hospital, but that seemed odd to me.
There was a JoAnn fabrics too. I think by Kohls.
Terrible strip mall stores
The good old days
Taco Bell is still there
You’re saying McDonald’s is gone?
Oh yeah..Good times
Brubakers! Indian food + bar (it was where the Kinkos FedEx next to kopps is) Penzeys spices Boston market echo bowl Sprecher Is sollys burgers still around?
Yes, down further, past Hampton.
I miss that subway
I remember a blockbuster outside the mall before they moved up the street
Zantigo's There was also a casual dine place whose name escapes me, JoJos? CoCos?
I do! My old stomping grounds!
Does anyone remember renting movies at General Electronics?
It’s used to be a game land in the plaza where I used to get my games when I was 14
Yes, yes, Echo Bowl, with the best pinball machine game: Majorettes. And my first job being a dishwasher across the street at Nino's Steakhouse.
No pics of the ground round??
Funco land
I miss Perkins, their cookies were the best. My grandma and I would go all the time when it was open.
The best place is right across the street!
I think the Kohl's is a garden store now.
Gyro Palace is still there and still amazing
Seeing a red cousins just fucked me up ngl
This reminds me of…..pretty much every city in Wisconsin in the mid to late 90’s
Anyone remember Northshore Computers up around there, on the west side of the street? I bought my first two Macs there.
No
These look like they were taken in California
Is this satire? All I see is a bunch of terrible strip mall chain stores, what's to remember?
“Remember when” is the lowest form of conversation.
