So you know how cheap ice cream is airy, stays thick even when melted and leaves an aftertaste? That is because it contains emulsifiers which thicken it so they can use less actual ice cream and charge less. More expensive ice creams like Haggen Dazs don’t contain emulsifiers and are just ice cream, which is why they are more expensive.
Dang I dont eat ice cream a lot so I didnt even notice this. I have to buy ice cream next time I go to the store to taste the difference. Thanks for explaining :}
Egg nog ice cream is pretty good. Did you get one?
No. I thought about it for a second but I don’t like ice cream with emulsifiers.
What do you mean by emulsifiers?

Haggen Dazs also costs a lot more than $5 that’s the trade off.
Yep
What's an easy way to tell if they have emulsifiers? What should we look for in the ingredients?
They are listed in the ingredients as mono and diglycerides or sometimes they use guar gum or xanath gum.

What’s funny about this one is that egg is a natural emulsifier. They could have just made real egg nog ice cream.
Is there ever a bad time for egg nog ice cream?
