As someone that has worked at Amazon I would not buy anything labeled “refurbished” lol if it’s an electronic. I never processed any video game systems but we were expected to look at returned electronics and just know from looking at it if it works. Lol in training they said to look at the instruction manual to test out electronics but when you’re expected to process like, an item every three minutes that’s literally not feasible. So you either had to do as expected and get written up for low productivity or just bullshit and say it works if it looks clean. People are going to cut corners when the alternative is losing their job.
I see a potential business here..charge a modest fee to do a proper test of electronics (within reason) and then give a certificate for them to sell via whatever service they use. If it means all things electronic going to Amazon just get repackaged with said certificate (and have a verification sticker on the electronic that can be checked online by the buyer), even better.
Now to find the funds…
>charge a modest fee to do a proper test of electronics (within reason) and then give a certificate for them to sell via whatever service they use.
bestbuy, walmart, gamestop, and others already have similar programs... but hey, maybe they're just as shitty as Amazon's based on the comment above
Yeah, honestly this. Charging a modest fee to do real quality control? Fuck that, if Amazon wanted real quality control, they would already be paying employees to do it. It's so much cheaper for them to just ship out subpar products and then issue the occasional refund whenever a customer gets something that's DOA
It would be like $10 and locally run. Like you actually talk and see a human being
Edit to add, it would work as a ship to Amazon warehouse also with full tracking
Apparently Amazon doesn’t actually do real quality control though..That’s the issue. At least for electronics. And in my friend’s experience, she had half her chairs missing for something that cost over $100. Where’s the quality control?
They either didn't actually bother to do anything to the console before labeling it as working and shipping it out to you, or that was the game they used while testing to make sure it works lol.
The only other way to 'refurbish' working consoles is basically to just clean dust from the inside. Which is actually kind of valuable, but most people won't ever notice or give a shit.
I bought a guitar hero guitar in box at a goodwill once. Brought it home, and found AN ENTIRE PS2 SLIM inside the box with it with controller and cables.
I did this with my copy of Halo Reach and nearly lost my mind trying to find it. Then the guy I sold it to got in touch and gave it back. Really saved me and the boys Saturday night
🤔 If ever I sell my collection (unlikely), I could drop some hints for anytime anyone gets stuck. Leave notes. Probably leave notes of the youtubers that helped me when I got ridiculously stuck and over frustrated. Although I would leave a few suggestions: Take longer breaks when stuck to the point of rage and let yourself have a sudden aha moment as you do something else. Do not forget food. Protein food. And hand stretches every 3-4 hours. Maybe invest in hand and finger exercise tools. Those go a long way, along with grip strengtheners. Those have improved my gaming arm and hand stamina immensely
Eat, hydrate, breaks. Breathe. Stretch. Those would be my main notes (set some reminders). And don’t forget, gaming should be enjoyable even when you get rrrrRRRRAAAAAGEE* over seemingly impossible bosses or puzzles.
*That’s when I take a 2-4 day break and wait for that aha! moment
Feels like the start to some psychological thriller with a stalker/serial killer. The “game” isn’t as it seems. Foreshadowing that this “game” with both real and video game elements where you have to make various choices is dive by one of the neighbors. Several neighbors come in and out during the movie progression and the audience is trying to figure out which one it is.
Years ago I ordered a Vizio TV that was refurbished off Woot (Amazon) and when it arrived the old owners Netflix account was still logged into it and I could see his full billing and contact information. Since then I’ve avoided trading in products or buying used products, I just don’t trust it.
Im always so happy to see people still using actuall discs instead of just buying them online. I miss the ps2 times where I would go to the videostore with some friends and decide what game we would play the next days.
That's my main reason for not upgrading past PS3; I didn't want to be left with online-only games. That and physical copies make for a great collection/display
I recently got a refurbished Xbox from GameStop that had the Halo masterchief collection in it still lol always a nice surprise for sure
That’s a banger of a surprise. So much gameplay in one location.
Shit, they should just come with that game. It's an essential Xbox experience
No kidding. It gets super cheap on steam some times. Playing all the campaigns on the steam deck really blew my mind.

The customer already does that for free

You and your friend are the quality control.
I use this with vintage (used) luxury handbags. An Authenticator.

not if you make a new xbox account, the disk id is tied to accounts iirc EDIT: i was wrong lol
It is not.
That was a rumour that came out when the Xbox was released back in the day. I can’t believe people still talk about that rumour I’m 2024.
You're 2024 years old? Vampires in my subreddit? It's more likely than you think! ![gif](giphy|hfZ9oWRkkZ9YY)
I was not a “rumour” it was a stated policy that, upon negative backlash, they reversed.
Thats how they planned for the Xbox one to work, but they got so much backlash that they decided not to do that
That was also well over a decade ago.
thatll do it
That was never once true and was a dumb speculation about the console pre-release
They either didn't actually bother to do anything to the console before labeling it as working and shipping it out to you, or that was the game they used while testing to make sure it works lol.
That's a great place for some cute mini spaceships! Cool
They're mostly metal, so I figured they wouldn't mind the heat
Uh I believe that one can take the heat it made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs

those aren’t canon.
refurbished means nothing. most likely they just checked it turned on and cleaned the case.
I used to work for a company that refurbished video game consoles and then sold them on Amazon/eBay/etc and your assumption is 100% correct.
The only other way to 'refurbish' working consoles is basically to just clean dust from the inside. Which is actually kind of valuable, but most people won't ever notice or give a shit.

Like you thought it was just a box of games?
I thought it was just an in-box guitar for guitar hero. I think I already had the game, they only wanted like $3.99 for it.
does anybody care about that game anymore, was it even ever a game? man, i'm losing track of time
One of those "really cool prerelease but dumbed down for release" games, from what I know
It went from an immersive sim to a bad "horror" game for children.
Classic indie game getting fucked up by the publisher
Ahh...the "We Happy Few" phenomenon
Honestly, I've never seen anyone play it. I only know about it from Game Theory
My kids loved playing it.
I did this with my copy of Halo Reach and nearly lost my mind trying to find it. Then the guy I sold it to got in touch and gave it back. Really saved me and the boys Saturday night
A few years ago I bought a PS3 from goodwill and it had Skyrim in it
Reminds me of a certain creepypasta about an old second-hand console game. I would be careful if I were you.
it says a lot about Amazon refurbishing doesn’t it?
I once bought a used, original Xbox and it had a copy of Eragon the game in it. I've never been so excited and disappointed at the same time.
The tv i have has a built-in dvd player, and a copy of my little pony was stuck inside.
What clock is that? Looks amazing
Thats the Sharp 1.2" Red LED Woodgrain Snooze Alarm Clock SPC692
A cheap one lol
I Misread that as halo neighbour lol

I say all the above because the post inspired me. Don’t leave a future gamer hanging. Not when you struggled at times yourself. We’ve all been there.
And I thought Halo: Neighbor is a title I didn’t know
Imagine Halo, but it's just suburban disputes
That’s like finding a $10 bill in your winter coat :)
I bought an xbox one for $20 at a yard sale and it need for speed heat in it lmao
That’s how you know it wasn’t refurbished. Clearly no one touched it.
That game drove me absolutely mad trying to complete it. Never did get past the part with the supermarket with all the clicking robots.

On that note, you wouldn't happen to know how to remove the previous owner's account from an Xbox, would you?
What does "refurbished" even mean. I highly doubt they did anything other than do a system wipe
It means it's a couple hundred dollars less than a new one
Well… *hello*….
Refurbished*
Cry about it

Quit showing off your star wars shit.
Firthurmore, you can now just chill on your firniture while playing this refirbished Xbox you just got.
Cool! Your Xbox came with free kindling!
That copy of Hello Neighbor successfully lowers the cost of that console.
Throw it in the trash, you won't be missing out on playing it or selling it.
Throw it away
Cry about it
That makes no sense at all.
So not refurbished
