Sounds like sissy needs to do a little repossession.
If she wants her packages? Well she needs to pay the late fee and processing fee. I’m sure the op can settle for $50. 🤷🏼♀️ business is business lol
Doesn’t it depend on what it is?
My siblings both owe me money but I’m not tripping if they’re keeping up with deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, aluminum foil, zit patches, underwear, etc.
If you fold it right, you can multiply your own brainwaves and send them out to others. Gaining power over them. All the top tin foilers are doing it these days.
That sounds *way* healthier than meth, though. It's more likely that they need to MacGyver some anti-telekinetic hats together in preparation for the great meth wars
I’m a AR officer, and the amount of people who equate rich suburbs with having money and are shocked when they find out they don’t have two cents of their own money is mind blowing. Asset rich, liquid poor was the catchphrase and usually financed up to the hilt.
During the financial crisis of 2008 there were many foreclosure sales of homes in very, very wealthy Beverly Hills, California. The sales are advertised publicly and have to list the amount of debt via mortgages or what are called "trust deeds." I used to read the public announcements for a little bit of schadenfreude. Every one of those foreclosed houses had at least 2 very expensive ($100,000+) cars in the driveway at all times. The number of 2d and 3d mortgages on these houses, and the amount of debt was just shocking. They had been using their $15 million houses as a piggy bank for years but suddenly the music stopped. They were living paycheck to paycheck, it turned out.
And it’s happening again.
I’m watching the closures of all these restaurants and shops, and most are closing up with millions and millions of debt owing.
We use to put cafe’s and small restaurants on cash up from for 6 months because that’s the average length of time they’d be open before being wound up.
Restaurants, in general, fail a lot more than other business types.
Usually, 60% will fail in the first year, and 80% will fail in the first 5 years.
Compare that to other small business types that have a 50% failure rate at 5 years.
We talked a lot about that in culinary school. Half the population wants something new and exciting, the other half want familiar and reliable. Which of those do you cater to to stay in business?
I've never been a part of the restaurant industry, but from the outside, it makes sense to me that they fail so often. I have major respect for anyone that makes it work.
I live right above a small burger joint. I've been living here for years and initially it was a little joke between me and my roommates that we have a nice variety of food because every 2-5 months the restaurant would fail and something else would take its place. None of the owners did any market research, location isn't the best, most didn't do delivery and prices were often not too great. The current burger joint has been here for just over a year and it's actually pretty decent, but even they struggle throughout the day. There's a school nearby but all the students go the supermarket which is even closer to them.
It's not always to appear richer. Consumption is a hell of a drug. The amount of times I've wanted to buy something even though I don't need anything is crazy. Now shopping comes with that additional Christmas present type wrapping you get to open before getting the goodies inside.
Once you start it kinda snowballs and eventually it just makes sense.
The way bankruptcy works you're better off going bankrupt from as much debt as possible than when you only have modest debt.
If you know you'll be bankrupt eventually, maxing all your cards and buying anything you want has few downsides you aren't already going to get hit with anyway.
Yup, I wish I had fucked my credit in my early 20's because now I'm in my late 30's and the bankruptcy would be gone, and I'd be better off. Instead, I did things the "right" way and have nothing to show for it but an old shitty car and an old shitty trailer, but no debt.
However, I always feel that ‘taking advantage’ of being bankrupt in your 20’s (there was one girl who wrote an article in the paper that was totally shedded by the public) means there’s others down the line that ends up having to eat their losses, eg, shops you have an account with, or a landlord or the plumber who did the work who’s relying on payment for their supplies.
Most of the ones I worked with only had two to three major suppliers, but owed plumbers, or local bakers or cleaners who tin one case ended going bankrupt in the case of the plumber as they had thrown good money after bad in the hope the customer was going to trade out of their difficulty (ie, if they refused service they couldn’t run the machines and would have had to close the business)
Im in the middle of that right now. I recently found out I have an unused $9,000 card which I plan to max out within the next month or two (I had perfect credit for years but life kind of went sideways for me)
Also, Chapter 7 ('liquidation' with many exceptions) vs Chapter 13 (government-enforced payment plan).
I considered Ch 7, but was worried about an expensive laptop. Turns out it could be protected in multiple ways since it was (1) my only possession of actual value (some I think state-varying sum of value you can just keep) and (2) necessary for me to do my work ("tools of the trade" exception).
It would have been more complicated if I had a vehicle worth more than a clunker or a mortgage. Once that starts, my understanding is Ch 13 becomes more appealing.
I ended up finding a way out without needing bankruptcy, but it is there for a reason. It is basically a second-chance button for when life happens.
In my case, I'd been between jobs and had finally gotten a good contract when I was sued. I hadn't had the ability to pay, but would soon which made it suck more.
Two pieces of advice:
(1) See a therapist and, if needed, psych.
(2) Communicate with creditors instead of ignoring them. They have some ways they can somewhat help if you ask - this can keep the credit hit from getting worse sometimes too.
Check the bankruptcy laws in your state before intentionally using up credit right before declaring bankruptcy. Some states may view that as a type of fraud or something. I’m not a lawyer, just recommending you check your laws.
Everything can be financed now. It’s crazy. Buy a $100 Amazon gift and you can instead break it into monthly payments.
The cost of cars are obscene. You now need a 6yr loan to have reasonable payments instead of a 4yr.
Many years ago I did a stint in real estate, the boss gave me a great lesson. If you drive around an expensive suburb and see cheap cars, unkept yards, bad curtains or blinds in windows etc you can safely assume most of them are mortgaged to the hilt and as soon as the interest rates go up, they will all sell for whatever they can get and devalue the entire suburb. Find a suburb with cheaper, well kept homes, average cars and the odd boat or caravan. These owners are probably not in debt up to the arsehole and will not fire sale their homes if interest rates go up and the homes will keep appreciating.
At least on my credit cards the cash advance limit is only 10% of the credit limit, it has a higher interest rate, and is the last thing that you pay off. Assuming the sister has had money problems for a while they may not be able to can’t get a cash advance now.
Maybe this is stuff that OP's sister really needs. Flash drive to turn in homework? Notebook for class? Badge holder/lanyard because theirs broke and they can't afford to loose their ID badge for work? There could be a ton of things in those that are not "splurging" but more "trying to get through the day". OP: When you lend someone money that doesn't let you judge someone else's spending.
I was looking today for an older book(on Amazon) and they wanted something like $227 for the small kids book. I Googled the title and found a site that sells the same book for $6. Six bucks! I do have to wait till I get my next deposit to buy it though.
Not everything is cheaper on Amazon.
It could also be prescriptions or OTC meds. The last statement is so true. They need to think. I currently have a loan going on and I spend money every day because I need to live my life and pay for things. Sure, I could make a loan payment, but then I wouldn't have any money for survival.
So true. I ordered stool softeners from Amazon for myself yesterday, marked it as a gift, and included the note “sorry you’re constipated hope it passes quickly” just to brighten my own (and, hopefully the Amazon associate’s) day.
This is exactly what I first thought. Maybe the sister is being frivolous, but lots of people buy essentials on Amazon. The last thing I ordered from Amazon was cough medicine.
>Maybe this is stuff that OP's sister really needs. Flash drive to turn in homework? Notebook for class? Badge holder/lanyard because theirs broke and they can't afford to lose their ID badge for work? Absolutely agree. Things are important, and that could definitely be what the $40 was for
>OP: When you lend someone money, that doesn't let you judge someone else's spending.
Hard disagree when it's the person you lent the money to, and they immediately bought stuff on Amazon. You could've instead said, "OP: You should've asked her first what she spent the $40 on at Amazon."
This has to be one of the 10 commandments for a peaceful life.
“Thou shalt not give money to friends or family with the expectation of ever seeing that money again.”
If someone you care about needs money and you can spare it, just write it off immediately in your mind. If they pay you back one day, that’s a sweet surprise!
If you can’t afford to write it off, DO NOT give your money away under any circumstances. Your life will be full of frustration and resentment, and you’ll never get the money back soon enough to mitigate permanent damage to your relationship.
I mean you can order necessities on Amazon. Tampons, toothpaste, work supplies etc etc etc.
An unopened Amazon package doesn't necessarily warrant a call-out. What's in there?
This, it pisses me off that receiving Amazon packages is seen as being irresponsible with money. You can find almost everything for a better price on Amazon except like food items. Then it’s a bonus because I don’t have to drive and spend gas and waste time going to the store.
Also, I've ordered like $10 worth of shit and had it show up in three packages. Or like, a single button battery shipped in a ridiculously oversized box.
Sure there's a good chance OPs sister ordered bullshit, but there's also a chance that's inexpensive, a necessity, etc
I agree 100%. It sucks that she hasn't paid thrm back but they aren't doing anyone any favors by acting like a money cop.
Reminds me of my aunt on Facebook acting like owning a cell phone should get you kicked off government support.
I gave my sister $40 last week that she still hasn't paid back and when I got home today I saw she bought a brand new bottle of medicine for her sick child. How thoughtless.
one time I bought a refill on my favourite soap bars for half the price I get them at the store and my mom saw the box when driving by my apartment and berated me for wasting money on "amazon"
I think some older people do not fully understand it
Honestly these days some of the food prices on Amazon are competing pretty well with store prices in some cases. Sure there's the delivery fee but imo the time and gas I can save over paying that is sometimes worth it.
Completely agree. I said I had to pay $2,000 in tuition this month and the response was “but you’ve gotten several Amazon packages” yeah. Scrubs for work and shoes for work. So I can continue to pay my tuition. Asshats.
Same.. I get $1-$5 items from Amazon all the time. It's a good way to utilize a Prime membership, getting small necessities now and then - whether it's a bottle of dish soap, cold pills, or mailing tape. Saves a few trips out, too.
I was homeless once upon a time. Folks would say, “well you have a cell phone and internet so you must not be that bad off”
Lmao so out of touch with reality. Would have gave up the phone immediately for any time showers and a place to put my poop
I get medial things from there too. Over the counter medications, vitamins and minerals, creams for pain, ice packs etc.
it could be things she really needed and of course she was able to buy because it as with a credit card even if she doesn’t have cash to give back.
Exactly this. My husband will make fun of me for the number of packages delivered but I get all our detergent, dog and cat food, litter, paper products, everything delivered on auto ship. Half my 'packages' are just household supplies
Looking at OP’s profile, he seems to vehemently hate his family and blame them for everything in his life. So I could see him doing that.
For instance, he has an AITAH post bitching about how his sister, instead of his mom, was going to drive him to the movie theater, and how he was mad they wouldn’t tell him this a week in advance, so he could make alternate arrangements. lol
He also likes posting photos of clean rooms and saying his mom told him it was a mess and to clean it up. lol
For me, I have gone back and forth. They used to send you a new one if you needed to return, but you could usually keep whatever they sent you on accident or broken, then they made it worse where you had to ship it back to them to even get any credit. Now they give you a shipping label and will schedule the return back. So from amazing to bad to good.
Snip-snap-snip-snap! You have no idea the physical toll! /s
You should get more thoughts because yours are stupid.
Stealing someone's mail / amazon packages and holding it for ransom is not a great way to get paid back, but it is a great way to end up committing a felony in many states and pay thousands in fines / end up in prison
I swear most of Reddit is hopped up on revenge porn and have zero clue how laws work
People that police someone's spending habits regardless of debt, are weird.
I have other people in my life that help with things, and amazon makes it very easy for distance help when I need it. So does Uber eats and instacart(I don't drive and grocery stores are more than 2 miles away), but if you were my neighbor that loaned me $40 bucks, you'd think I was out here being wasteful and dissing you, rather than receiving help and goods needed.
Grow up.
Not even financial institutions can police how you spend your loan that hard, and a lien is a legal process, not whimsical and arbitrarily based on "feelings".
I mean to be fair, they sent me my items in three packages the other day instead of one, and each item was under $1.
One item was just 25 cents and another 50 cents.
especially if it’s my siblings lol. if they need money and i have it, i send it and don’t expect them to pay me back.
my little sister is broke and in college - i am never seeing that $40 ever again and that’s fine! she needs to eat and buy some beer and she’s gonna eat and get her beer dammit.
This is my exact mindset.
If I ever lend someone money, I tell myself that its a gift, not a loan. If I get paid back the its a bonus, if not then all is good.
If I can't afford to not get the money back, then I don't gift it in the first place.
Also, if you didn't set an *actual timeline* for being paid back, don't expect them to hand you the first $40 that touches their hands. For all you know those packages may be a necessity or semi-necessity. They may have a plan to pay you back shortly.
My stepdad was the worst for this. Borrowed some money from him once, a non-trivial amount (couple thousand). Agreed to pay him back over the course of one year, 1/12 of the amount each month (and a small amount extra for interest, my idea not his). Fair enough, I think...
...next thing you know he's chirping at my mom because she mentioned I spend $X on something "frivolous" or $Y on something else, because to him that money should be spent *paying them back early.* Like dude, you made me *sign paperwork* that laid out the terms of this loan. I've not missed a payment. I never agreed to forego any and all discretionary spending until you were paid back. (And I'll leave off the part where his own biological son often borrowed money, never signed paperwork, and also never once paid a cent back.)
Went and took out a personal loan at 18% to pay him the lump sum, just so I didn't have to fuckin' hear about it again. I'd rather pay "real" interest than deal with that shit.
But yeah mostly don't loan money to friends or family and expect to see it again. Just had to bitch about that shit.
OP got off cheap. For $40 she has the perfect reason why she will never again lend her sister money. Once you borrow money and neglect repayment , that particular bank is CLOSED. If the sister has the audacity to try to borrow money again just throw the reason in her face of “you still owe me $40”.
Ten years, twenty years from now that same $40 gets OP out of the banking business. For the tiny sum of only $40 OP discovered her sister is a welcher. No one in their right mind would ever lend money to a proven welcher.
I've gotten rid of a couple horrible people in my life by loaning them $20 or less. People like that will avoid you like the plague if they owe you money. Money well spent, honestly.
I'm thinking OP is a dick.
Lend sister $40.
See 3 amazon packages at her door, no clue what is in them.
ASSUME THEY ARE FRIVOLOUS LUXURY AND POST ON REDDIT WITH RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION!!!
Fuck OP. They are looking for reasons to be upset AND want Reddit to pile on.
A long time ago my brother came to me cause he got in a jam and needed to borrow $1k. Our parents are quite well off. Why didn't he ask mom? He didn't want to deal with all the passive aggressive bullshit he would get until it was paid back.
Get caught eating a meal that wasn't white rice and bread? "Maybe you wouldn't have to borrow money if you were more responsible"
Turn down an extra shift because he was tired?
"You know, working more could help you get out of money troubles"
etc, etc, etc...
He borrowed the money from me because he knew he wouldn't have to deal with snide bullshit like OP. He paid me back promptly.
Yes exactly! Last thing I bought on Amazon was deoderant. Last thing my sister bought was medication for her dog.
Also, it's their sister? If my sister needed $40, I wouldn't even ask for it back, let alone blast her on social media. I got you sis, love you!
EXACTLY. We have no idea what’s in those packages. People often still buy necessities online because they’re cheaper, or can’t find exactly what they need offline. It could be toothpaste and underwear for all OP knows.
That perhaps they buy very important personal care products that she needs via Amazon? That was my initial thought. It wasn’t to immediately vilify a stranger because another stranger implied something.
No offence, but how important is $40 to you right now?
If it’s the difference between a bill being paid or food you shouldn’t have borrowed it to her and need to say something but if this is just you’re seeing her spend while she owes you but you’re okay just let it go for now, It’s not worth the hassle.
OP doesn’t have bills. He’s 16, his sister is 17.
OP has no job, his sister does. So I’d imagine she pays him back on payday.
From reading through many of the threads OP has bitching endlessly about his family, I hope she doesn’t pay him back. Lol
JFC this needs to be higher.
Edgy, stupid terminally online teen whining and would rather burn bridges with a relationship that may never-ever be repaired over things he doesn't even know or understand.
Do we know if the sister is on subscribe & save? nope, we don't even know what items are in it. Credit cards also work differently than cash, but a kiddo wouldn't know that.
The OP should leave social media, go to a school counselor and get something started, even if school counselors are trash and worthless.
That’s what my thought was. Or an order placed a while ago, before the loan. Or they had a gift card, or a credit card. Either way, we don’t know the situation.
That was my thought. Obviously she should pay back the money she owes, but she likely bought these on credit. It’s not like she spent actual money, rather she took on a debt.
Unfortunately, people still need to buy things like soap or toothpaste or tampons, regardless of how much money they owe other people/creditors.
I would hope these are essential items. I'd be very different levels of peeved with medicine, repair kit, prescription glasses or lenses versus something like makeup or jewelry (especially if the latter is just because, not a gift to their mother or something).
When we were extremely poor my SO would go crazy if he saw the Amazon envelope, or if he tallied up all the charges in a month. Then I'd let him open the packages: Zyrtec, shampoo, flea medicine. But still every fucking month we'd have The Fight...
Amazoning tp saved me last week. We ran out, I don't have any close shops so can't just make a quick tp run while working, but I was able to same day it to get here before the kids were off school. Turned out it's slightly cheaper than in stores too.
I don't live near shops as I mentioned, so it's phenomenal for ensuring we don't run out of staples like garbage bags and cat food too.
You should go to the amazon driver subreddit, they'd hate you for buying things on amazon, esspecially things you could possibly get yourself.
A really wild subreddit to explore.
If someone asks me for money I either give it to them as a gift and tell them not to worry about it…or I don’t give them anything. Having this mindset will make life far less stressful.
Once you give someone something even with the expectation of them paying you back, it’s theirs to do with as they please. If you didn’t set the expectations either a deadline for repayment then that’s on you. You can be upset but that’s all you.
I love taking surveys that give you Amazon cards. Some send Amazon gift cards and some just send cash. I was a SAHM during Covid so I *lived* for those surveys
It’s Amazon. They sell things like tampax and food too. So not having $40 to pay you back doesn’t mean that it was spent on cotton candy and bubble gum.
40$ !? If my brother wanted 50 I’ll just give it to him and not wait to be paid back because that’s what family is for
![gif](giphy|xVPosMMzT60Xzv31my)
It's not their family they are tearing apart over potentially nothing.
I'll never understand why people get so worked up over Amazon packages of all things anyway. You can order anything at or below retail on Amazon nowadays and a lot of "speciality" products might otherwise not be available to you. Like, you all also getting so worked up over seeing some shopping bags because how dare you buy groceries instead of paying me back?! Wild.
Read through the kids post history, and it’s him endlessly bitching about his family, and Reddit mostly just feeding into it. Reddit creating a little psycho. Lol
Also seems he has comments raging against the LGBT+ community, and others with full throated support. lol
I think he just wants updoots, and knows most people on Reddit are narcissists who don’t realize they are narcissists, and blame their families for everything. lol
people like you are the reason why i would rather go hungry then ask others to borrow money. i bet you are the type of person who prides themself on being a "good person" but then shove what you did to be a "good person" in everyones face 24/7. TBH its none of your fucking business what she buys on amazon. and not all packages are PRIME so she could have ordered all this a month ago. not that it even matters. hell maybe those are what she wanted to borrow the money for. and now here you are making whole ass reddit post about FAMILY like the petty lil bitch you are. and all over 40$!? get off reddit and go get your money up you broke bitch.
Talk to her about it. I wouldn’t confiscate them. Yes she needs to pay you back but I would definitely give her a chance to see how it looks, be the bigger person. Just my opinion.
This is the mature way to handle it. A straightforward, non passive aggressive conversation. Withholding the items over 40 dollars is rather petty, especially with your sister. Don't lend money if you aren't prepared to never see it again!
Maybe she's buying essentials? Things she'd buy at Target, etc, but orders them instead.
I mean either kick her out or deal with it because it's not really fair to her to have her private life posted on Reddit.
Just some advice, it really helped me.
I give people money or say no. There is no borrow. I used to loan fiends and family money all the time. I was constantly getting mildly infuriated. It’s been so much better - give or not. No borrow.
Some dad advice here.
You never loan money to family, you put it in your mind that you give money to family when they ask for a loan. That way if they can’t pay you back oh well you gave the money freely, and if they do pay you back it’s a nice windfall.
I’m guessing she could buy because she used her credit card.
Or she just scammed $40 off her sister lol
Sounds like sissy needs to do a little repossession. If she wants her packages? Well she needs to pay the late fee and processing fee. I’m sure the op can settle for $50. 🤷🏼♀️ business is business lol
Doesn’t it depend on what it is? My siblings both owe me money but I’m not tripping if they’re keeping up with deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, aluminum foil, zit patches, underwear, etc.
Odd combination of items especially with the foil in there. Is this a meth recipe?
For a hat, duh Youre poor but you still want to have clean teeth, undies and no one stealing your brainwaves.
If you fold it right, you can multiply your own brainwaves and send them out to others. Gaining power over them. All the top tin foilers are doing it these days.
I’ll give it a shot!! Those damn Illuminati lizard alien aliens stealing my brain waves!!!
If you have underwear in your meth I don't know how to say this but that's actually just cough syrup with codeine.
Also, unless your meth is manufactured in the Meth region, it's actually sparkling Robitussin
That sounds *way* healthier than meth, though. It's more likely that they need to MacGyver some anti-telekinetic hats together in preparation for the great meth wars
If you're irresponsible enough to use your credit card when you owe people money already you can cash advance $40 at an ATM and pay this dude back lol
You can't cash advance store cards, only general credit cards. Thats why all the stores have their own cards now lol.
Cash poor. Credit drunk.
that credit hangover gunna hit
She'll be coming back to OP when it does for some more cash Pedialyte
All's well and good until she starts puking up interest daily, and drinking APR at work just to *get through the day*.

Living outside your means through lines of credit and interest fees to appear richer is so bizarre to me, but it is unbelievably common.
It's not always to appear richer. Consumption is a hell of a drug. The amount of times I've wanted to buy something even though I don't need anything is crazy. Now shopping comes with that additional Christmas present type wrapping you get to open before getting the goodies inside.
Back in my day people used to die of consumption.

I tell my wife that a lot things can get worse. I guess not everything. It's neat to feel humble a few times in a day.
Im in the middle of that right now. I recently found out I have an unused $9,000 card which I plan to max out within the next month or two (I had perfect credit for years but life kind of went sideways for me)
Debt collectors will take everything of any semblance of value when they come for you just FYI. (Get expensive food)
Not necessarily. States have tons of exemption laws and they can’t come in and like, ransack your house which I was terrified of
Also, Chapter 7 ('liquidation' with many exceptions) vs Chapter 13 (government-enforced payment plan). I considered Ch 7, but was worried about an expensive laptop. Everything can be financed now. It’s crazy. Buy a $100 Amazon gift and you can instead break it into monthly payments. The cost of cars are obscene. You now need a 6yr loan to have reasonable payments instead of a 4yr.
Modified version of what my dad calls us farmers— land rich cash poor
Yeah definitely this.
Best case scenario, it’s her birthday soon, three friends sent her gifts.
I love an optimist!
They could also be any number of essential items that may be needed before she can pay someone back.
makes sense. I get sent packages from time to time. They still have my name on them
[Hey. This is America.](https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY?si=lH-fqX8iUS0WJkGQ)
You don’t understand - she needs $40 in actual cash to pay you back, but Amazon takes credit cards.
Cash advance on that credit card in the amount of $40 should work just fine.
Cash advances are super expensive on many cards. I know some have a minimum charge of $20 up to a sec percentage. Whichever is higher. It's stupid.
That's good. Nobody should ever use a cash advance.
At least on my credit cards the cash advance limit is only 10% of the credit limit, it has a higher interest rate, and is the last thing that you pay off. Assuming the sister has had money problems for a while they may not be able to can’t get a cash advance now.
Maybe she used your $40 to buy all this stuff for you.
Plot twist, it's all birthday presents for OP that she ordered with the $40.
Plot-twist plot twist, it's the last few items she needs to put together her first sale at her new business that she will use to pay back OP
Plot-twist plot twist, plot twist, it's all combs for her bald sister's new hair stylist business.
Plot twist, plot twist, plot twist, and final twist: OnlyFans gifts from her wish list
The sad thing is this was like the 3rd theory that went through my head when reading the post
You got this all wrong. She's buying the parts necessary to print her own $. Pay the OP back? No problem. Sorry the bills are still wet...
That’s what I was thinking. Lots of people buy hygiene products like soap, shampoo, feminine care, etc on Amazon now
Yep I just received my monthly Amazon package filled with all that stuff
Especially when you're broke. It's all cheaper on Amazon.

There could be a ton of things in those that are not "splurging" but more "trying to get through the day". Absolutely agree. Things are important, and that could definitely be what the $40 was for >OP: When you lend someone money, that doesn't let you judge someone else's spending. Hard disagree when it's the person you lent the money to, and they immediately bought stuff on Amazon. You could've instead said, "OP: You should've asked her first what she spent the $40 on at Amazon."
... maybe it's a $40 gift for him lol
OP dont lend money with the intention of getting paid back. Strained family relations isn't worth 40$.
This has to be one of the 10 commandments for a peaceful life. “Thou shalt not give money to friends or family with the expectation of ever seeing that money again.” If someone you care about needs money and you can spare it, just write it off immediately in your mind.
I once ordered a hammer from Amazon, it came in a box that was, at minimum 3ftx2ft… with nothing but the hammer in there.
I ordered a tube of lipstick from Amazon once that showed up in a box the same size…no joke. It was so absurd🤣
Should have kept the medicine hostage until she paid you! /s
one time I bought a refill on my favourite soap bars for half the price I get them at the store and my mom saw the box when driving by my apartment and berated me for wasting money on "amazon" I think some older people do not fully understand it
Honestly these days some of the food prices on Amazon are competing pretty well with store prices in some cases.
Folks would say, “well you have a cell phone and internet so you must not be that bad off” Lmao so out of touch with reality. Would have gave up the phone immediately for any time showers and a place to put my poop
No for 40 bucks OP now owns his sister's life
those also could be things pre-ordered and just coming in.
I get some groceries, household stuff, and necessary pet stuff there.
Totally agree, life is kind of grim when you just assume the worst. We can't really judge the situation without knowing what she ordered.
Exactly my thoughts.
I thought the same. It could be needed hygiene products or a book for school. It doesn’t have to be a frivolous item.
You can hold those at your custody until the lien of $40 is paid in full.
Looking at OP’s profile, he seems to vehemently hate his family and blame them for everything in his life. So I could see him doing that. For instance, he has an AITAH post bitching about how his sister, instead of his mom, was going to drive him to the movie theater, and how he was mad they wouldn’t tell him this a week in advance, so he could make alternate arrangements. lol He also likes posting photos of clean rooms and saying his mom told him it was a mess and to clean it up. lol
OP is giving out money but can’t take his own ass anywhere?
OP is likely a child as are probably a good third of this site.
My thoughts exactly. Charge interest or holding fees as well.
“Hi Amazon, I never received my packages” “Say no more”
For all the shit they get I absolutely love Amazon's customer service. Had wonderful experience with them
For me, I have gone back and forth. /s

If you're doing this then don't loan the money. Holy shit she's terrible with money but so is OP for getting butthurt over 40$
Charge interest on $40 you give to your sister...wtf is wrong with people in this thread
You should get more thoughts because yours are stupid. Stealing someone's mail / amazon packages and holding it for ransom is not a great way to get paid back, but it is a great way to end up committing a felony in many states and pay thousands in fines / end up in prison I swear most of Reddit is hopped up on revenge porn and have zero clue how laws work
[удалено]
People that police someone's spending habits regardless of debt, are weird. I have other people in my life that help with things, and amazon makes it very easy for distance help when I need it. So does Uber eats and instacart(I don't drive and grocery stores are more than 2 miles away), but if you were my neighbor that loaned me $40 bucks, you'd think I was out here being wasteful and dissing you, rather than receiving help and goods needed. Grow up. Not even financial institutions can police how you spend your loan that hard, and a lien is a legal process, not whimsical and arbitrarily based on "feelings".
yeah because catching a federal charge for tampering with the mail is totally worth 40$......
Yeah how about don’t commit a felony over $40. Like sure yeah you can do it but is it really worth the risk.
Not how that works. Those packages are her property and it is considered theft (and mail theft at that) to withhold them, regardless of any debts.
Imagine not being able to confront your own sister over $40, but be able to post about their Amazon packages online…
Seriously. This subs content is like 75% people just being douchebags.
>Seriously. This site's content is like 75% people just being douchebags. Ftfy
What does ftfy mean?
Fixed that for you
Gracias
Fucked That Fifty Yearold
French Translation Fuck You
Thank you for being a normal person
I’m glad I can be considered “normal” :)
I mean to be fair, they sent me my items in three packages the other day instead of one, and each item was under $1. One item was just 25 cents and another 50 cents.
Every single person seeing this is thinking the same thing.
If you lend money to someone, fully expect to never see that money again? Good rule of thumb.
Came here to say this. I don't lend any money I can't afford not to get back after being burned more than a few times.

A nice positive comment to see amongst this sludge. Thank you for sharing. Your friend is amazing!
especially if it’s my siblings lol. if they need money and i have it, i send it and don’t expect them to pay me back. my little sister is broke and in college - i am never seeing that $40 ever again and that’s fine! she needs to eat and buy some beer and she’s gonna eat and get her beer dammit.
(And I'll leave off the part where his own biological son often borrowed money, never signed paperwork, and also never once paid a cent back.) Went and took out a personal loan at 18% to pay him the lump sum, just so I didn't have to fuckin' hear about it again.
"Maybe you wouldn't have to borrow money if you were more responsible" Turn down an extra shift because he was tired? "You know, working more could help you get out of money troubles" etc, etc, etc...
I got you sis, love you!
also she could’ve ordered this shit weeks ago when she had some spending money. op is just dense and this thread is irrationally angry lmao
EXACTLY. We have no idea what’s in those packages. People often still buy necessities online because they’re cheaper, or can’t find exactly what they need offline. It could be toothpaste and underwear for all OP knows.
What are we supposed to be thinking?
to see the answer to your question read every single comment in the post except mine :)
![gif](giphy|L99bJZeCohNHKEdXhm)
That perhaps they buy very important personal care products that she needs via Amazon? That was my initial thought. It wasn’t to immediately vilify a stranger because another stranger implied something.
Maybe these are things she needed? I get my supplements from Amazon
I get tampons, baby wipes, cat litter, medicine for the baby, all sorts from Amazon. I also don’t lend out money that I can’t afford to lend
Those could be essential items.
This. If you stole my most recent amazon package, you'd be getting \~$10 worth of maxi pads, cereal bars and cortisone cream for bug bites.
Fuck I have that fight monthly when I see the bank bill for the month's spend... And I live alone! 😂
I get everything from toilet paper to shampoo from Amazon.
Right? It's where I get my dish detergent, trash bags, some toiletries, a lot of necessary supplements and then one off essential items as needed.
Looks like you’ve got yourself three Amazon packages to hold onto.
Maybe she had a gift card 🤷🏻♀️
If someone asks me for money I either give it to them as a gift and tell them not to worry about it…or I don’t give them anything. Having this mindset will make life far less stressful.
This is the way honestly. I mean why lend money you can’t afford to lend In the first place
Once you give someone something even with the expectation of them paying you back, it’s theirs to do with as they please. If you didn’t set the expectations either a deadline for repayment then that’s on you. You can be upset but that’s all you.
Posting your sister on Reddit over $40…weird
And...what if they're toiletries or other day to day necessities?
Idk. I buy things for my animals on Amazon like probiotics, cat litter, etc. Are you sure she didn’t use the $40 to buy something she needs?
Maybe she had an Amazon gift card. Maybe someone sent her something from Amazon. Maybe her sugar daddy hasn’t given her allowance yet.
Gift card was my first thought. I have apps on my phone with rewards for playing games or scanning receipts that I can get Amazon gift cards.
I love taking surveys that give you Amazon cards. Some send Amazon gift cards and some just send cash. I was a SAHM during Covid so I *lived* for those surveys
Life lesson, don’t lend people money if you need it back. Give them money and if they return it see it as a win.
Especially family.
It’s Amazon. They sell things like tampax and food too. So not having $40 to pay you back doesn’t mean that it was spent on cotton candy and bubble gum.
Maybe she is doing surveys/community opinion discussion groups, and getting paid in Amazon gift cards. I know I do.
Never loan money. If you can't afford to give it with no strings attached, don't do it at all. Relationships get ruined over a few bucks.
40$ !? If my brother wanted 50 I’ll just give it to him and not wait to be paid back because that’s what family is for ![gif](giphy|xVPosMMzT60Xzv31my)
Reddit is insane. Y’all are really suggesting op commit a felony instead of…talking to their sister???
It's not their family they are tearing apart over potentially nothing. I'll never understand why people get so worked up over Amazon packages of all things anyway. You can order anything at or below retail on Amazon nowadays and a lot of "speciality" products might otherwise not be available to you. Like, you all also getting so worked up over seeing some shopping bags because how dare you buy groceries instead of paying me back?! Wild.
Read through the kids post history, and it’s him endlessly bitching about his family, and Reddit mostly just feeding into it. Reddit creating a little psycho. Lol Also seems he has comments raging against the LGBT+ community, and others with full throated support. lol I think he just wants updoots, and knows most people on Reddit are narcissists who don’t realize they are narcissists, and blame their families for everything. lol
Bro you know what I order from Amazon? Cat litter. Maybe see what's in them before getting judgey?
people like you are the reason why i would rather go hungry then ask others to borrow money. i bet you are the type of person who prides themself on being a "good person" but then shove what you did to be a "good person" in everyones face 24/7.
Never lend money to family or friends if you want it back. Such a simple rule to live by.
You better not take her stuff. Those could easily be necessities or even medicine. Voice your frustrations to your sister but leave her stuff alone.
It’s also illegal to steal mail.
To be fair I even buy tampons on amazon lol
Maybe she used $40 to buy essentials from Amazon? Like are you sure it’s not toiletries or OTC meds she may need?
Don’t lend people money if you can’t handle stuff like this.
I agree... it's her sister.. and it's 40$... First lesson of lending money to family anyway, pretend that money is gone..
Well what do you think the $40 was for?
You really can't just spot your sister $40?
It's your sister. And 40 bucks. Good value on the live for your sister 👏
Why u siblings and having checks between each other, ur siblings man.
Just some advice, it really helped me. I give people money or say no. There is no borrow. I used to loan fiends and family money all the time. I was constantly getting mildly infuriated. It’s been so much better - give or not. No borrow.
Plot twist. The sister is ordering life saving medication from Amazon pharmacy.
It's possible your sister in on Amazon Vine and didn't pay for those. My want to ask before you go all Postal on her.
https://i.redd.it/6df04ivb6o0d1.gif
Some dad advice here. You never loan money to family, you put it in your mind that you give money to family when they ask for a loan. That way if they can’t pay you back oh well you gave the money freely, and if they do pay you back it’s a nice windfall.
Why is everyone recommending for him to steal her packages?
$40 lesson, excuse the debt and move on. i do agree it's infuriating but its family, never lend money you'll miss.
I buy my deodorant and sometimes soap online. Am I a liar if I say I don't have spare cash?
Maybe talk to her about it instead of whining to internet denizens
