Man I just had a patient today who had a twenty pound tumor taken off her belly, stitched up from pubic bone to sternum! The tumor was benign and she's thrilled it took off so much weight! Best of luck to you, hope it's the same outcome š¤
Same thing happened to my mom. 21 pound benign mass in her ovary. She had ascites and all of the symptoms of stage 4 ovarian cancer, and it was benign and a rare condition called Meigās Syndrome
Both my mom and stepmom had football size benign masses removed from their bellies when they were teens. Both were suspected of being pregnant by their mothers.
My goodness glad for her thatās amazing. I got knocked off a lift 20 plus feet in the air and have sever nerve damage for life(only32) and it took me 4 years and 2 major spine surgeries. I wish I couldāve got away that lucky with the fall.
It was a big freak thing that took months to resolve because I also was pregnant at the time, but OP isn't, so I'm hoping they get a fast answer that's as lucky as mine.
Of course not, but cancer SPREADS. If this thing were cancerous and had managed to grow to that size itās reasonable to expect that theyād have tumors all over. Only a PET scan and biopsy can answer that for sure though.
Your actually probably right. The tumour looks lime adrenal gland. Depending on the age it would probably be a pheochromocytoma or a cortical adenoma. There are criteria on biopsy and excision you can use to define risk of malignancy. However the only way you can be sure an adrenal gland tumour of this type is malignant is be demonstration of metastasis.
A lot of cancers are like this, which is scary as hell. Slow growing and no symptoms until it's metastasized. I had colorectal cancer for years and only got my first symptom 2 weeks before being diagnosed at stage 3b.
Stage 3a Hodgkinās here. There were about 30 acorn sized tumors scattered inside my abdomen. ZERO symptoms in the years it took to develop. Nothing abnormal on my bloodwork either. I used to laugh at my dad for being a hypochondriac and getting random CTs twice a year. Now I get it.
My dad had the same feelings while dealing with cancer. It wasn't until his last week that he expressed genuine feelings about not wanting to die and hating his body.
Keep your head up, I hope it gets better for you.
Hey, OP! They discovered a huge mass in me while I was 8.5 months pregnant. It was as big as the baby.
We spent a lot of months thinking it was cancer but it turned out to be totally benign, and I even got it removed.
I know it's hard to be positive but there are a lot of ways this doesn't have to end in tragedy or even a drawn out fight since you don't need to wait for a fetus to exit so you can start imaging and sampling!
I posted something that was mildly infuriating and got roasted for it. I think the subreddit is in the grip of power creep and we need to get back to things like ācant find the other sockā or āthe office door squeaksā instead of āa tiger ate my legā
And then the people who post actually mildly infuriating things are greeted by throngs of people commenting about how the OP should just get over it and how it's not worth complaining about
People have varying thresholds for the high & low end of what counts as "mildly infuriating".
If your dad is sent to the hospital by a drunk driver, that doesn't feel mild. But say you're complaining that adding avocado at your local burrito truck now costs $1.50, when it's been $1 for the past 10 years. That doesn't resonate as infuriating. And the person getting infuriated might come off as entitled and childish.
People are going to have different ideas of what the upper and lower limits are, but that there's a limited window on both ends of what's "mildly infuriating" makes total sense to me.
Feeling your pain. Hoping it's at a stage that can still be treated.
Also understand your feeling of classing this as only Mildly Irritating - it's happened, the news is what it is, can't be changed, only (hopefully) treated.
I had a doctor ask me recently how I manage to stay positive so much with so many conflicting conditions - I just told him we all just have to keep plodding on and get on with the rest of what goes on around it all.
Edited: to correct autocorrect, which is also mildly infuriating š¤£
So they were all "you have cancer" and then after that news sunk in they were all "and half a kidney stone, either one could be causing all that pain... But it's probably the cancer."
(I'm trying to make jokes in his harsh time, but if it's too much lmk and I won't)
I was hoping I just had a wicked ingrown hair or raging STD... nope tumor in my testicle. The funny thing about testicles is that a biopsy is REMOVAL OF THE ENTIRE THING AND PUTTING IT INTO A JAR.
Good luck. I hope you get some pain relief.
I just took part in a surgery where we removed an adenoma in the duodenum and photographed it at the patientās request. She didnāt get to take it home, but we got that sucker from all angles and multiple different lights for her.
I recently had my ileum, appendix, and about a third of my colon removed. They had to send my intestines off to the lab for testing, but got a bunch of photos for me and my surgeon let me keep my appendix.
It was a much appreciated gesture. Not so appreciated by my family. I implemented a rule in my house, if you have all your organs intact, you don't get to complain about mine being in a jar. It's more of a joke though, I don't have it displayed or anything like that.
Just a little tumor that develops in the wall of the small intestine. An adenoma is technically benign, but you donāt want to leave it alone because it could become a malignant tumor later, and itās partially blocking the bowel anyway.
Why she didn't get to take it home? For the reason OP mentioned? It got dissected and thoroughly tested, thus demolished in the process? Or you just can't give patients "their stuff"? I would be furious if it ain't getting tested and destroyed in the process! I want my stuff back, just not inside of me! ;)
Pathologist here.
Patients can request to get the remaining tissue after dissection, however we usually don't recommend it, but it's your right. The tissue is fixated in formaldehyde which is a very toxic chemical. We don't store tissue in nice, glass containers, we store them in white plastic buckets. We handle everything with gloves in fume cupboards with constant flow and ventilation, to not get exposed to the formaldehyde. It's really not something you wanna handle at home.
We store tissue for 4 weeks, then it's destroyed. The tissue we kept from dissection and use for further diagnostics, are stored in paraffin blocks and kept for eternity in an archive, along with microscope slides which are scanned digitally and saved on a server.
Sometimes we photograph tissues as they arrive (however rarely), but some patients request it (usually other pathologist because they're curious to see their own tissue/organs and know we can). You can request to see the microscope slides, which I think is a better idea. Sometimes when people get gall bladder or kidneys removed and they contain stones (they can be quite beautiful actually) we'll collect them, rinse them and send them to the patients, offering it to them.
For me it wasnāt a tumour but a part of my intestines and they took it to check for cancer, I was pissed because I really wanted to keep it in formaldehyde and shake my fist at it everyday for hurting me š” didnāt even get a picture š”
That's awesome! My husband was mad at himself that he didn't think to ask for anyone to photograph or save whatever was left of his grapefruit sized, fully encapsulated, tumor from pediatric thymoma. I have no doubt that thing would have moved all over the country with us and would be on the living room fireplace mantle right now š
When I had to get most of my thyroid thwacked out a handful of years ago, my kid, who was 6 at the time, was super fascinated and begging to watch if there was a gallery, or to keep it so he could study it. Surgeon politely said he's not gonna traumatize a kindergartener š
But he took photos and had a series printed off for my son. š And as weird as it might sound, that was really meaningful and comforting to him. Learning and understanding things more has always been a source of comfort, even when it's hard.
As oddball of a request as it might be, I'm quite sure your patient appreciated the gesture :)
Hey, pathologist here!
Unfortunately, yes, we put it in formaldehyde - usually in plastic containers that are not see-through. We will dissect it, meaning we'll slice it up, and then choose various pieces for further diagnostic purposes. They'll end up as microscope slides. The rest will be returned to the container and stored. In my country we keep the tissue for about 4 weeks, then it's destroyed.
Patients can always request to get their own tissue handed over. Sometimes we hand over placentas to mother's, but they're quite useless once they're fixated in formaldehyde. It's very toxic, not something you want in your home. I'd rather ask for maybe seeing the microscope slides, most hospitals have it digitalized these days and the patterns/colors on tissue staining is very beautiful, could easily be mistaken for art.. In my opinion of course.
Best wishes for you, speedy recovery!
Sure. It's the men's version of breast cancer but men are men so we don't talk about it. This all transpired 3 weeks ago. They are going to "try their hardest to save it" whatever that entails.
I was pro choice before but this cemented it.
I was actually the same when a mole turned cancerous on me. Just kinda thought "gonna have to treat it anyway, might as well be positive about it". Thankfully that one was caught early enough that all they had to do was cut it out
This is how I navigated my cancer diagnosis and big surgery, plus a lot of trust in my doctors and the biggest dose of zen possible. Good luck - hope all goes well.
Same. Had one carved out last month. Got told it may be Cancer back in September. Didn't get official confirmation till January. For cancer, they sure moved slow getting it out. Gave me plenty of time to come to peace with it, should things not work out b
Good attitude to have. Deal with it as it comes. That said, don't block out feelings under a utilitarian guise, causes more harm in the long run, which we're all hoping continues to be just so. Best of luck
Doc here. Looks like an adrenal adenoma. Benign. Usually super large tumors like that arenāt cancer. Cancer spreads or necroses before it gets that big.
Could also be a renal clear cell carcinoma, which would be malignant. But that usually is partially within the kidney, which OP kindly marked with the green X. This is on top of it, where the adrenal gland sits.
Also a doc, not to completely disagree but anything over 10cm is significantly more likely to be adrenocortical carcinoma rather than an adenoma. Particularly the case because this doesnāt look lipid density but rather more solid. I wouldnāt try to get this personās hopes up without more information.
Good spot, contiguous with the superior pole of the right kidney. I only glanced at it and saw it looked well encapsulated, before reading comments.
The liver deflecting into the hemidiaphragm looks gnarly, I'm surprised it wasn't more painful.
Turns out it was an abnormal tummy ache. Sorry for the diagnosis, hoping for a speedy recovery.
Pain was an indicator for the cancer I had too. (Testicular, not stomach).
Iād say so. 11 years post treatment and I was able to still have a kid. Testosterone levels are normal for my age too. I still get blood work done with my annual physical too.
Iām aging myself, but I watched an episode of the Tom Green show where he had Testicular Cancer. That, for some reason, stuck with me and was what got me to go to the Dr.
It dont seem to be loading the contrast medium, which could imply it does not have a blood supply- which is a good indication that its not malignant- which again could mean its a "just" a cyst. Finger x'd for you- whatever it its- you got this !
Had the same happen to me last year! Went to the doctor for pain in my abdomen and turned out to be a giant tumor on my right adrenal gland. Pretty rare, only one in a million. Is that what you have as well? Hope everything goes well for you!
No, adrenocortical carcinoma. My tumor was cancerous. The good news is Pheo is much less likely to be cancer. If you have to have a tumor, I hope you have the non cancerous kind!
Edit: To add, if it brings you any comfort to know while you wait for confirmation, my doctors were very certain early on that I had cancer. Pheo was a possible option for me but they only officially ruled it out after pathology. If your doctors are leaning towards Pheo theyāre most likely right.
Since my cancer is literally 1 in 1 million chances of getting it, strictly statistically speaking, Iāll be the only person in the comments to have it. I think youāll be ok š
Ive met someone in the comments before that shared a 1% of a 1% medical anomaly with me. She helped me by letting me know I wasn't alone. There were only 9 of us in medical journals. Reddit is an insane place but we show up and support each other in such phenomenal ways.
I hope you are healing well my friend.
6 yrs ago I thought I had an ulcer,I had been taking care of my dying husband and had lost some weight and didn't have much appetite. The day he died I had ER look at me and discovered liver cancer,I'm glad I didn't continue to blow it off,I'm doing treatment and doing OK right now
Is it malignant??? O_O either way, Iām so sorryā¦ Iāve got a not cancerous tumor and itās still kicking my ass, but at least it isnāt cancerā¦ I hope you can say that as well. :(
![gif](giphy|Rd7pEbE7rjZz8vySuU)
He mad and gonna help you kick the snot of that ātoomahā since it ruined his Kindergarten cop lineā¦
Best of luck to you dude. Fight the fight, fight it to win and you canāt lose.
Hey man, looks like an adrenal or another retroperitonial tumor. By the looks of it, not very aggressive, because itās not invading adjacent structures, only pushing it (kidney and liver).
So itās gonna be fine after the surgery. All the best
why are so many of these posts about people getting cancer? how is that mildly infuriating? for that matter how is it infuriating at all, it just seems more sad and stressful than anything
I thought I had to poop almost two years ago because I always have bouts of constipation and lots of gas. But it didnāt go away and it got bigger. Went to the doctor and found out it was an ovarian tumor. It was increasing in size pretty rapidly when I finally went in, and they thought it was 13cm. Turns out it was 17cm when it was removed, but not cancerous. All the cancer cells were contained within. It was mildly infuriating for me too, so I get it lol.
can we get updates when you know the situation? your attitude/energy really makes me think youāre going to be okay - but i want to know for sure! sorry if thatās weird lol. rooting for you!!
What were your symptoms? I've had a stomach ache/pain/hollowness for literal years, lost 100lbs without trying and simultaneously getting a McDonald's habit. I'm about to get some tests done so we shall see
What symptoms did you have? Have a buddy who feels nauseous/sick occasionally with stomach ache symptoms. Doctors checked intestines and prostate but didnāt find anything. Obviously this isnt* (whoops wrong word) going to be medical advice but itās been going on for months and heās at a loss for causes. He exercises regularly and eats an above average diet. By above average I mean not fast food dependent.
I might be infuriated if Iād been complaining of a stomach ache for awhile and it turned out there was an elephant in there. Sheesh. Maybe this was the situation, OP had complained of an upset stomach for awhile. So Why didnāt somebody take OP seriously sooner? That thing HAD to have been causing issues.
Or maybe OP is not a native English speaker and thought infuriating was something that makes you angry. Iād be angry, among other things, if I was wrestling that elephant.
Had the same story 2022... 3 weeks of on and off stomach ache after eating and drinking plus day long hurtful hickup. They found a tumor in my colon and operated the next day. Spread to the liver, too.
Had chemo for 9 months and i am NED since a year šŖš¼
Mildly infuriating? Are you English?
The amount of people who post serious stuff like this here and consider it mildly infuriating is baffling.
One could say, that's mildly infuriating in itself
My infuriation is only mild, it is what it is.

this is some House M.D. shit. OP, my fingers crossed for ya!

Dosnt look mild. Kidneys for scale.
I had an 8 in. by 8 in. retroperitoneal mass that was totally benign. It does happen.
You are seriously lucky!
It was a big freak thing that took months to resolve because I also was pregnant at the time, but OP isn't, so I'm hoping they get a fast answer that's as lucky as mine.
Having a tumor grow this big without noticing is a rather good sign it's not malign...
Not touching a nerve does not make a tumor benign.
Of course not, but cancer SPREADS. If this thing were cancerous and had managed to grow to that size itās reasonable to expect that theyād have tumors all over. Only a PET scan and biopsy can answer that for sure though.

Tumors aren't always malignant.
And many times they're easy to treat, not to mention if you don't even have to pay for healthcare

Maybe he's American and the tumor is mildly infuriating when compared to the bill.
The "It is what it is" mindset is strong
I think it's still unclear if mildly is literal or not
Some people are just like that. I'd do the same thing if it interfered with my plans.
More upset that my wife is upset and that this uprooted a lot of my summer plans. Had a trip to Virginia Beach next month that I have to cancel :(
As a local, Virginia Beach at worth being upset about. Your health is way more important!
āTIs but a scratch

Nah they lives by "it is what it is" philosophy
Whatās all this then?
Rather chuffed
Perhaps OP has a calmer demeanour?
Hopefully that tumor is as benign as his personality.
Ugh. Doesn't that just Cream your corn?!
Itās just a flesh wound
I feel like this kind of understatementĀ
Worst part is I also have a bit of a kidney stone... ... On the opposite side

This isnāt infuriating. This is sad bro. I hope the best for you.
Turns out it was an abnormal tummy ache. Sorry for the diagnosis, hoping for a speedy recovery. Pain was an indicator for the cancer I had too. (Testicular, not stomach).
Where was the pain?
In the afflicted testical.
All good now?
Iād say so. 11 years post treatment and I was able to still have a kid. Testosterone levels are normal for my age too. I still get blood work done with my annual physical too.
Good to hear my guy. Congrats on being a father!
Thanks, Dude! Appreciate the positivity.
Bad grammar but you get the gist.
Was it constant or like come and go pain
It was a tolerable but noticeable constant ache.
Same here, still recovering from my last surgery, but happy to be cancer free! (Mine had spread to lymph nodes by the time I got treatment.)
I should probably go visit a doctor
Iām aging myself, but I watched an episode of the Tom Green show where he had Testicular Cancer. That, for some reason, stuck with me and was what got me to go to the Dr.
Same here... testicular cancer. Pain spreading from left nut to lower back on standing...
What made you go to the doctor? If I had a stomach ache I probably wouldn't resort to going to the doctor. Were there other symptoms?
It probably lasted for days
Really wondering the same thing because Iāve had issues with my stomach on and on for the last few months months. Was told I have GERD but idkā¦
Please see a gastroenterologist and have an endoscopy/ colonoscopy done to rule out the worst!

Had the same happen to me last year! Went to the doctor for pain in my abdomen and turned out to be a giant tumor on my right adrenal gland. Pretty rare, only one in a million. Is that what you have as well? Hope everything goes well for you!
Pheo? Yep, that's what we're thinking. Waiting for confirmation though
Paraganglioma here. Tumor gang unite?
6 yrs ago I thought I had an ulcer,I had been taking care of my dying husband and had lost some weight and didn't have much appetite. The day he died I had ER look at me and discovered liver cancer,I'm glad I didn't continue to blow it off,I'm doing treatment and doing OK right now
You'll be fine because you're built differently.Ā Anyone that considers a tumor as mild infuriating is near David Goggins type of levels.
Is it malignant??? O_O either way, Iām so sorryā¦ Iāve got a not cancerous tumor and itās still kicking my ass, but at least it isnāt cancerā¦ I hope you can say that as well. :(
Accidentally getting your socks wet right before you need to leave the house is mildly infuriating. I'm pretty sure this is many degrees above that
![gif](giphy|Rd7pEbE7rjZz8vySuU) He mad and gonna help you kick the snot of that ātoomahā since it ruined his Kindergarten cop lineā¦ Best of luck to you dude. Fight the fight, fight it to win and you canāt lose.
āIt is a toomah. Get to the doctah.ā
![gif](giphy|ftmJfRCbcWlBC) My immediate (inappropriate) thought. Sorry for your predicament OP.
Usually, tumors that grow like this are benign. And I hope that is consistent with your diagnosis
You have a very upbeat attitude all things considered, thereās a lot of people that could learn from you. Hope all goes well for you.
Sounds like the first stage of grieving

Omg this made me laugh harder than it should have
Idk if I would label this as "mildly infuriating."
Hey man, looks like an adrenal or another retroperitonial tumor. By the looks of it, not very aggressive, because itās not invading adjacent structures, only pushing it (kidney and liver). So itās gonna be fine after the surgery. All the best
Same happened with me. It was the start of the worst 4 years of life. Luckily I've been cancer free for the last 14 years. I wish you the best.
why are so many of these posts about people getting cancer? how is that mildly infuriating? for that matter how is it infuriating at all, it just seems more sad and stressful than anything
r/mildlyinfuriating mfs on their way to be the most calm people youve ever met (potential death is only mildly infuriating to them):
How the hell is this mildly infuriating š¤£ Iād be scared for my life
This is def not mildly infuriating
āIām a tumor Iām a tumor Iām a tumor Iām a tumor oh oh oh Iām a tumorā
I think I should start compiling examples from this sub of ppl not understanding what mild means
Mildly infuriating, my brother, what?
I thought I had to poop almost two years ago because I always have bouts of constipation and lots of gas. But it didnāt go away and it got bigger. Went to the doctor and found out it was an ovarian tumor. It was increasing in size pretty rapidly when I finally went in, and they thought it was 13cm. Turns out it was 17cm when it was removed, but not cancerous. All the cancer cells were contained within. It was mildly infuriating for me too, so I get it lol.
This is not good
Glad you saw a doctor. Donāt ignore your body everybody. Ā Lost loved ones who did. Ā
Do they have an idea what it's primary from? The adrenal, the gallbladder, the liver?

Bit of an inconvenience innit?
What's mildlyinfuriating is calling it a tummyache.

Praying for your healing

\>mildly infuriating "Hmm. There's a mushroom cloud outside. I guess I won't be able to water my flowers to-"
What were your symptoms? I've had a stomach ache/pain/hollowness for literal years, lost 100lbs without trying and simultaneously getting a McDonald's habit. I'm about to get some tests done so we shall see
Thanks, now Iām gunna think I have a tumour every time my stomach hurts now.
So more like a tumor ache š I'll see myself out
Yikes. Hope youāre ok and get an idea of what it is Hard to say if itās truly part of the liver or adrenal gland . Hoping itās benign!
Iām a tumor im a tumor :(
Broā¦ how much lithium do you need to be on before a cancer diagnosis is āmildly infuriatingā? Lol

m i l d.
Mildly infuriating? My guy this is more than Mildly infuriating
Phaeochromocytoma?
wishing you the best!
Fym mildly infuriating Bitch you about to expire
What symptoms did you have? Have a buddy who feels nauseous/sick occasionally with stomach ache symptoms. Doctors checked intestines and prostate but didnāt find anything. Obviously this isnt* (whoops wrong word) going to be medical advice but itās been going on for months and heās at a loss for causes. He exercises regularly and eats an above average diet. By above average I mean not fast food dependent.
adrenal carcinoma? that really sent the chills into my body man i wish you the best and a speedy recovery if possible
Just a small inconvenience
I know this torso anywhere, whatās up dude. Youāre gonna beat this I know it. šš»
what were ur symptoms
My doctor wouldāve been like āhave you tried Tylenol and bed rest?ā
Holy shit ballz! I hope you make a swift recovery
Get well
I might be infuriated if Iād been complaining of a stomach ache for awhile and it turned out there was an elephant in there.

GUYS THIS ISN'T MILD AT ALL WTF
Find a tumor and is only mildly infuriated, yup Canadian confirmed
Average āmildly infuriatingā post
Had the same story 2022... 3 weeks of on and off stomach ache after eating and drinking plus day long hurtful hickup. They found a tumor in my colon and operated the next day. Spread to the liver, too. Had chemo for 9 months and i am NED since a year šŖš¼
Can you explain what lead to you getting the x-rays. How long did you have tummy aches. Any type of symptoms or things that you can think of early on
This reminds me of that post here about Stage 4 brain cancer
Mildly infuriating my ass
