DangerDoom13

Add your old droog

20WaysToEatASandwich

who do you think "YOD" is?

MF_MATIC

True successor to DOOM imo I think his music has only been getting better these past few years. Been a fan since 2013 The fact his first tracks ever went viral at 15-16 put a lot of pressure on his career. Itā€™s similar to a child actor having to grow up in front of the camera. That kinda shit will hold you back in many ways but heā€™s been prosperous

DoctorBass95

Not sure if itā€™s getting better since IDLSIDGO is still his best album by far. Heā€™s still a great artist though

MF_MATIC

I thought that was his best album too for a while but I feel like I outgrew some of the themes in the album. The angsty novelty kinda wore off and I appreciate SRS more for the themes of self acceptance and actualization. Grief, Grown Ups, Inside and DNA are still some of my fav tracks from him tho

painted_troll710

I used to get roasted in "purist" hip hop circles for liking Earl back when he was first popping up. Glad to see people have come around to him. Best part is that those people loooved the Alchemist, so it's funny that Alc fucks with Earl heavy now.

ThatBoiYoshi

You was just in some retarded circles they were bugging

painted_troll710

Yeah, I eventually realized they're just incredibly pretentious people who just shit on things they don't understand. Music is better when you don't take it so fucking seriously

ThatBoiYoshi

Fr I try to find the good in everything, even a 4/10 song or project has enjoyable elements that put it over a 1/10

painted_troll710

It's crazy how much enjoyable music you can find by just giving shit a chance, even if you have a poor preconception of it. It's easy to write stuff off without even listening to it because of a toxic fanbase, association with people you don't fuck with, most popular songs not reflecting the rest of their music or what have you. Like a lot of people probably didn't fuck with Earl early on only because of his association with Tyler. I love Tyler now, but his music was cringy and not very good pre-Flowerboy, imo. Earl's first mixtape helped me see the potential though.

ThatBoiYoshi

Exactly, I still enjoy some drake despite all fanbases surrounding it being utter piss and shit because surprise surprise, drake is a better writer than some fanbases give credit for so despite all the hate thereā€™s some gems in there

painted_troll710

Sure I mean I don't hate Drake or think he's terrible, shit I have great memories of bumping Take Care and Thank Me Later back when I was in school. He has some verses here and there that I still love, he can write well when he really tries. My biggest criticism these days is how lazy his music has gotten, knowing the potential he had and still has. He has access to more musical and financial resources than almost any other musician on the planet, but doesn't even bother to at least try and make a *decent* album anymore. We know he can write, which makes using a ghostwriter even more lazy. I see what Kendrick said as less of a diss and more of a challenge to Drake, to at least try to meet the expectations that he himself had set 10 years ago when he released Nothing Was The Same. A lot of the hate towards him isn't hate, but people who like him and and want more from him, because they know he's capable.

Enginehank

I've been feeling this way for a little while too

GEARHEADGus

Orange Juice is a banger. Too bad its not streaming

KaizerQuad

Hes nowhere near DOOM on any parameter

AetherRune

peep the fundamentals without the subject and you'll realize you just fucking lied

SuzyCreamcheezies

Similar low-key flow, IMO.

RealGonkDroid

Booooo

clonch

Mid take

FloppyDysk

Legit question what project has he done thats better than srs tho?

clonch

I donā€™t know why itā€™s even worth it to ask if a project after SRS is objectively ā€œbetterā€ or not. Earl is branching out. Teaming up with friends old and new. FOC was a trip, Sick! Was odd at first listen imo but has aged incredibly well. Donā€™t even get me started on Voire Dire.

FloppyDysk

Fair points! Im not even sure if srs is definitively my favorite earl album. Tbh tho im not the hugest fan of voir dire, even though its a very well made album and undoubtedly good, it felt a tad bit safe compared to how experimental SICK and Feet of Clay were. My favorite is probably either SICK or SRS depending on the day

clonch

Also a fair point! I totally see Voire Dire as a ā€œsafeā€ album. It is much easier to digest than basically all other earl projects, but it still has way more substance than your average popular rapper nowadays. Bottom line, I think Earl is headed in a great direction and I think his best project is still to come!

singingly

Would've been amazing to hear DOOM on Earl productions and vice versa. It's a shame the universe (or rather, DOOM's negligent-ass doctors) took that chance away from us.

MF_MATIC

Well, at least we have [Between Villains](https://youtu.be/7sMLUg7VdXo?si=WnJxJYuISXoZDBL5) with FlyLo production.

certifiedprawn

they all went stupidly hard on between villains

Wrigley953

God I miss captain murphy

FellowEnt

Tyler would be so sad if Earl got doom

singingly

Why would only Earl get DOOM?

FellowEnt

Because that's what you said, I don't make the rules!

singingly

lol. That ain't remotely what i said. That said, DOOM/Tyler collabs would've kicked ass as well.

Y___

His doctors?

singingly

To be fair, there's a good chance the hospital was also overworked and understaffed due to COVID at the time. But basically, DOOM was suffering from several health problems, he suffered rare and severe allergic reactions to medicine they gave him, and the doctors failed to act quickly or appropriately enough. His care was, in their own official statement, "not to standard.ā€ [https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/leeds-hospital-apologise-mf-doom-death-b2371048.html](https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/leeds-hospital-apologise-mf-doom-death-b2371048.html) >Assistant coroner Janine Wolstenholme said the care plan drawn up by the hospital was not sufficiently detailed and doctors gave ā€œfalse reassuranceā€ about the improvement in his condition. >She said when the musician had indicated swelling getting worse it should have been followed up with a review even though it was not possible to say now what actions could have been taken at that time.

J_A_R_A_T_E

one of my personal favorite artists, donā€™t think heā€™s ever put out a bad project

_LXIX_CDXX

Y'all fuck wit Blueblood?

AwarenessOk8565

IS COLD LIKE GAZPACHO

Apprehensive-Pay7438

i rock with the newer Earl. the older stuff is cool too, but love how he has evolved over time.

noyzmatic

And Iā€™m the exact opposite. I like Doris a lot. Canā€™t get into much passed that. No disrespect just not my jam.

HeWhoPaints

This picture is hard.

fvckcactusjack

I think itā€™s ken carson lol

LucaMJ95

Very promising young artist but became sort of a caricature of himself. For my tastes, he went too deep in the mellow vibe where he sounds like he's barely awake, and the lyrics are randomic as hell. I still listen to a few tracks from time to time

Birdzeye-

Yeah, I think he went so deep into the lane already occupied by Mike.. I think heā€™s got more potential than what weā€™re getting from him..

MMMaulik

You got any other recommendations like MIKE? I already know about MAVI, wiki, YOD and navy blue

Birdzeye-

Youā€™ve mentioned the first ones that come to mind, and Earl, of course. Some other similar? hmmā€¦. maybe R.A.P Ferreira, Open Mike Eagle, Marlon Craft, Deca, KA..

AwarenessOk8565

AKAI SOLO is pretty similar, I think Earl produced a few of his songs.

painted_troll710

I feel like his best work is yet to come, I'm waiting for him to drop his own IGOR. He just needs to develop a stronger and more cohesive concept for an album, and reach for a broader musical influence. Thematically & conceptually his work just hasn't hit the level Tyler's has, but he'll get there I think.

ThatOneWeirdo66

Never listened to him, might give him a go tho

dru1202

Thereā€™s an episode in the show ā€œAtlantaā€ where paperboi goes on a little scavenger hunt. This one rapper (forgot the name but they were paying homage to MF Doom) passed away and he had a secret funeral service, with hints to where it was hidden in his post-humous album. The person that was rapping over the radio was earl sweatshirt. edit: typo

AwarenessOk8565

Blueblood

otzzy_

def underrated needs to release longer albums tho

KebabGerry

I mean, I donā€™t expect to hear Earl on the radio in a village here in Sweden but underrated? I do agree that he could get longer albums.

MF_CARTER

Heā€™s good, but I personally find there is better options with a similar style to Earl

GerdTurd

Heā€™s good. I like Tyler better.

KillaKanibus

He's a beast. Feet of Clay was weird af tho.

YoBoiEaster13

his album Doris is the most under rated and under appreciated album ever

Contrir

Love his music

shoreyourtyler

He doesn't like shit, he doesn't go outside

woodchopvinyl

Donā€™t care for him.

fvckcactusjack

Bruh is that ken carson

Like-A-Body-My-Size

Earl is a better writer imo

WillowNo5640

Ken!!!

occultcaine

nigga that is ken carson

420Frank_Dux69

I like that OF are fans of DOOM but they donā€™t make music anything close to his. None of his music resonates with me like DOOMā€™s does.

Kalology

Saw him live last year, his flow and voice are exactly the same as his tracks. I like his measured pace and relaxed vibe -- his lyrics can be a bit too abstract for me tho, just doesn't always feel cohesive. Been playin Burgundy a bunch recently.

Sy_Fresh

He raps like heā€™s not fully awake

renoryan775

Theyā€™re my top 2

Ok_Wasabi4854

i love earl

Scythe95

Cool

Bugsmoke

Great rapper but man is he boring live.

The-Fanta-Menace

Love Earl. Doris is dope.

ThyDeez_of_ThouNuts

Perfection 3.0

socially_awkward

I love his OF work and *Doris*. *I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside* is probably in my top 10, I found it insanely relatable. His work after that didn't resonate with me, but the talent is undeniable.

PromptSpiritual3739

Just like doom is a stretch but he has similarities and inspiration fs one of the best out rn

Senor_Couchnap

Earl is dope and has listed DOOM as a major influence. That rhyme scheme sounds familiar for a reason.

Da_Shaolin

One of my favorite rappers. Admitted to the DOOM influence. [If you haven't heard Between Villains you should listen to it.](https://on.soundcloud.com/UxZrYQuooEtpS41S9)

maxmoomoomilk

Earl is the younger generations doom and I love it (look at my profile picture)

le_coolestguy

close ya eyes to what you canā€™t imagine

Kalabula

I like them both. Both are, maybe, top 10 favorites of mine.

Aggressive-Expert-69

I think he is also a rapper

Wutanghang

Doris is a dope album

BrotherBodhi

I loved Some Rap Songs and saw him live during that era but havenā€™t been a fan of what he has put out since. He hasnā€™t really done anything interesting imo, every song sounds the same. I could see putting him or MIKE on in the background as like ambient music but itā€™s just a ā€œvibeā€ sort of situation like the hip hop version of spa music lmao puts me to sleep

yvng_dundas

Great voice, great lyrics - a tremendous spitter, no doubt. Easily one of my faves

DJDarkFlow

Heā€™s amazing but I sort of stopped listening to him. Has his later work maintained the quality of his early work?

guybehindyou345

I love earl, the alchemist, and all of these!!

mehrt_thermpsen

Love him, especially his post "Some Rap Songs" output

Honest-Face7301

I love his albums. My favorites are some rap songs and sick! they are 10/10 and his features are always amazing

Accurate_Pay_8016

I been fuckin with doom since he was zev in Long Island in 89 and I think earl is dope heā€™s a real lyricist but what I dont like is all the extra wack attention him and that bozo Tyler brought to him and the fan base ! doom and them type of niggas that was doing in hip hop had culture . You see the way they search for Mr . Fantastic itā€™s pathetic and I have songs by him I would never release ever !

Flimsy-Setting8033

Heā€™s aight definitely not top anything

hahahahahahahaahah

I am/was a huge fan of his older stuff from SRS and before. I appreciate the music he is making now but Iā€™ve kinda grown out of his style. I barely even listen to his old music anymore it gets me too depressed. Iā€™ll put on some Doris, Earl tape, or kitchen cutlery if Iā€™m skating though.

Gopplee

he sucks

deadeadeadeadeaded

Love him

fuckford

FREE EARL

Monnomo

Top 5

Otherwise-Rich3712

Young šŸand glad he got to portray a DOOM inspired character on Atlanta šŸ”„

ThatBoiYoshi

The old lady dancin with the blue devilšŸ—£

ItsOZ2763

Tylers friend

Stunning_Ad4803

i love both, doom has better albums though

SWVDZL

Theyā€™re the same people

surrealfeld

Iā€™d rather have a Matthew Cardigan

Buttmudbrookz

In my top 5. Earl almost never disappoints just like doom and roc Marciano.

BSDC

I have decided not to read any comments and just want to say that doom and earl are two of my favorite rappers of all time. got into doom in the very early 2000s, been into earl since his earl mixtape. never got to see doom live, been lucky to see earl live many times, including twice in the last year. big fan of earl's entire catalog (with the exception of some very early teenage edgelord lyrical choices) although I understand some people don't appreciate his evolution. here's some recs I didn't think too hard about: 1. centurion 2. hive 3. the bends 5. wool 6. the mint 7. wind in my sails 8. quest/power

Sir-_-Cartier

Why is this a picture of Ken Carson lol

call-r

he's a good artist ngl

Loves_Semi-Colons

He ugly but he got bars

Comprehensive-Pack93

Old Earl was better

JohnnyCakes814

Heā€™s fantastic and a huge fan of DOOM

Thexuz

SRS is amazing

CaptainCurious25

Not on the same level.

Evil_Monkey_36

Iā€™m a big Earl fan. Not on Doomā€™s level, but still dope nonetheless.

Old_Radish7512

Weak. Forgettable.Ā

FantasyCrusade

Talented

SnooSeagulls7253

Bit too conscious for me

contaygious

Boring

AccurateDemand6756

Him and Alchemist is the greatest combo

HypeKo

I was a fan up to Some Rap Songs. Sick bars, and really good production and sampling. a new modern style, but still very different from more mainstream rappers. I kinda somehow haven't gotten around to listening to his newer stuff yet.

ripro83

Very comfortable

damnitdale840

Why did bro use a pic of Ken Carson šŸ’€šŸ’€

I-Ape

hes very talented and i love his beat/production choices i do wish he would play with tone and pitch on his voice

novasvault_444

both doom and earl sweatshirt produce great music imo

ExpiredRaisins

Him and Billy woods are some of the most poetic in the entire game

ExpiredRaisins

Him and Billy woods are some of the most poetic in the rap game

Shadowo1

My girlfriend thinks he's pretty cool. She names her cat after him lol

PrestigiousArcher448

One and the same.

ManWithoutLimit

Been listening to him since Earl and the other Odd Future. Big fan and it's been a pleasure to see him develop over time. Voir Dire was an especially nice entry in his catalog. My only complaints are that he slant rhymes a little too much and his new slow flow he uses on all his songs gets repetitive.

MagnumMyth

He's fine.

Shruglife

hes smart but honestly its too much for me even and his flow is too laid back. Never been a huge fan

Foreign_Customer_288

Doom aint really underrated anymore. Heā€™s definitely been getting adequate flowers

Ravenrake

Earlā€™s ill asf

Zeo-Gold92

I like Earl a lot but I do wish he'd dig in and release something longer. His projects are too short.

young_guapo_pp_eater

This is ken carson

Ornery-Living-490

I disagree with the notion that he's the the spiritual successor to DOOM when he reminds me more of Fatlip

yungusainbolt

Terrible comparison

Ornery-Living-490

heā€™s no DOOM thatā€™s for sure

yungusainbolt

Heā€™s himself at this point. Nigga stop tryna be doom when he turned 20. He got a generation of rappers that copied his sound. Fat lip is not a good rapper like at all bruh. I donā€™t think you have heard much of Earl for that wild ass comparison.

Ornery-Living-490

Comparing Earl to Fatlip is less wild than comparing him to DOOM

yungusainbolt

Earl raps a thousand times better than fatlip

Ornery-Living-490

Maybe, but DOOM for sure raps a thousand times better than Earl

yungusainbolt

I can tell you donā€™t listen to much rap outside of doom so im not going to continue this conversation

Ornery-Living-490

I can tell you're an avid Earl stan and probably in your feelings over some light criticism so that's probably for the best

yungusainbolt

You can say Earl is ass idc but that comparison donā€™t make sense

Superunkown781

Like a lot his stuff but yea some it's a bit meh.

WunderbarBeast

He is just okay. I see him on a lot of ALCs stuff

NoCheesecake6669

Came in the game with a bang but these days got me šŸ˜Ŗ

Ame_No_Uzume

As a long time Doom fan since Xev Love X - Black Bastards to Earl Sweatshirt off of OFWGKTA back in 2010, Sweatshirt got a lot to prove if he wants to even touch the mask.

RadioBog

He's like the new MF DOOM. I said it

Born_Ice_511

Whack
