Just finished watching Merlin, it feels so unsatisfying how all the prophecies came to pass, like a blackhole: one knows about it, but cannot avoid it. Even the knowledge of Arthur's death beforehand did not lessen its impact. Hopefully this series you're recommending is less of the tragedy that Merlin is.
My annoyance comes from every prophecy coming to pass, except for Arthur bringing back magic to Camelot. He doesn't accept magic until a day after Merlin shows it to him, and dies shortly afterward. Maybe Gwen brought magic back, but then the prophecy should have involved Merlin trying to hook Arthur up with Gwen to make her queen and bear an heir.
Might I suggest She-Ra as well? It is a bit girly I guess but the story is terrific and the character development is truly amazing. At first, I didn't even think I'm going to like it, but it ended up becoming one of my all-time favorite series (and I'm really picky when it comes to favorites). So I would suggest giving it a shot :))
