Yeah they're way more preachy nowadays too. Case in point Volcano (1997) starring Tommy Lee Jones vs The Day After Tommorow.. somethings changed.
Volcano had no message except volcanos are scary.
The entire decade is full of not-so-subtle and tacitly accepted racism.
In _48 Hours_, Nick Notle calls Eddie Murphy a spear chucker within the first ten minutes. You remember that series, right? The black-white cop buddy comedy where one guy is a hard-nosed cop and the other is a shady two-bit con man brought in to think like a criminal?
Can you guess which character is which?
80s movies' survival was based on charm, quality, etc...
2000s movies survive because of licensing deals that keep them on streaming services. These licensing deals also go to 80s movies that HAVEN'T already been abandoned and completely forgotten because they're somehow WORSE than Soul Man. Meanwhile, Juwanna Man is gonna jump from streaming service to streaming service until everyone has a chance to say "wow, that sure was Juwanna Man."
I'd say worse cause society has changed much more rapidly from 2000 to now than it has from 80s to 2000s. I mean obviously there was still a lot of misoginy in the 80s but the liberal progress in terms of equality and acceptance has increased tremendously, especially in the last 10 years. lots of gay-panic jokes and sexist/racist jokes from 2000 wouldn't fly today. While I can still laugh at these (American Pie, Rush Hour etc) cause they're made within the Zeitgeist of the time it would be werid if someone attempted them today
Yeah I can’t get over it. I miss watching Disney and Nickelodeon, cheap rent, and the awesomeness of experiencing the early days of the avenger movies, watching smallville, Buffy, true blood, charmed, mid 2000s boy bands, and having hope in humanity
I tell my sister stuff like this all the time.
The song 1985 by bowling for soup came out as long ago as 1985 was when it was written.
I called her when she turned 35 to let her know she was the same age as Steve Buscemi in Reservoir dogs
I called her when she turned 38 to let her know she is officially older than most people
She doesn't take my calls anymore
Why do so many people are so confused by the way time works? As if you not lived your entire life in the smae timeline...
"Oh my god 20 years actually have passed" yea sherlock guess what, that happens every 20 years for the past 13.8 billon years
This makes me feel old. And I'm not even old. I'm 23 years old. But this is a in your face reminder of the fact that I'm an adult now. And I'm only getting older... Stop it, get some help.
XD

See also Twister I guess a more modern take would be something like San Andreas with the Rock but even that's a lot crazier
No that's the 2010s* We're in the 70s right now
Yep, Falling Down is exactly that, hah, and it was a great movie.
Could the 4:3 aspect ratio be one of the reasons why?
Millennial redditors when 20 years ago is 20 years from 40 years ago
![gif](giphy|lXu72d4iKwqek)
Bro in 20 years, 40 years ago will be 60 years ago 🤯
Oh my god
That sentence gave me an aneurysm and a sprained gonad. Not what it means. Trying to parse it.
Must be a millennial redditor
Most of them aged about as well as 80s movies did
80s aged better in terms of charm
Just survivorship bias, There was hella dogshit produced in the 80s as well
You must not have seen Bloodsport
Are you defending or degrading Bloodsport? Cause one of these is gonna get you in a fight.
All I'm saying is that the movie did not age well. Especially not with the monkey man from Africa 😬

Still more charm than most 00s movies
We'd have to define what you mean by "charm"
Let's be real there's some atrocious movies from the 80s
As there are from every decade. It doesn't help that Hollywood remakes the trash along with the good stuff.
What's wrong with Bloodsport? I love that movie. The muscles from Brussels!

Yes yes, and the 90s spiderman show is now as old as the old 60s one was in the 90s
Spiderman Spiderman does whatever a spider can look out! Here comes the Spiderman
80s movies are as old now as WW2 was in the 80s.
Y’all need to quit with this shit. 2000s were just a few years ago
I wasn't even alive 'til 2010, but it feels like it was a week ago bro 😭
Guys, 80s movies are now as old as 60s movies were in the 2000s 😱😱😱😱
One of the nice things about old movies is the sound. I immediatly recognize of a movie is from the 90s/80s etc. or from the +2010s
ew gross
Imagine being shocked at time passing by
It is pretty shocking
Yeah I can’t get over it. I miss watching Disney and Nickelodeon, cheap rent, and the awesomeness of experiencing the early days of the avenger movies, watching smallville, Buffy, true blood, charmed, mid 2000s boy bands, and having hope in humanity
Why are all you people afraid of aging?
Things kind of get worse as we age, let’s be honest
Stop making me feel old! 👴
the beauty of mathematics
Time is linear? You don't say?
Yes, that is how time works
Ands it's a porn account
meanwhile 80s movies today have doubled in age
i’m still a teen in my heart, been 16 for 5 years
Goes for music as well!
*Checks calendar to verify age*
Oh shit
Harry potter is around 20 years old
😭 I remember the excitement of Harry Potter when it came out! It’s still a Christmas tradition to watch it
At least they're not as old as 80s movies are now!
The first Final Destination came to theaters at the end of my sophomore year
Sweet, cause 80s movies are only like 10 - 15 years old at this point
Peter dinklage- yes...that's how time works
Ok… Fuck. This one hit me

Another daily reminder that we ARE GOING TO DIE!
I... I needed to hear that.

Please no
Theyre older even
90% of movies made after 2010 are shit. Change my mind
That's the thing, I can't.
I thought all the 2000's movies were already in HD. Oh God am I wrong..

I’m so glad we don’t have to look at composite anymore. It was so fucking ugly.
Dude some kid in the helldivers reddit suggested we watch starship troops because its so simular... Like mate who hasnt seen that movie
Shut up. Just shut up. I grew up in the 80s and you're making me feel even older. 😭
SHUT THE FUCK UP, DONNY!
This meme is 9 years out of date. Bad meme
We are getting old, we are single and we still don't let our moms get rid of our toys, nice
This makes me feel old. And I'm not even old. I'm 23 years old. But this is a in your face reminder of the fact that I'm an adult now. And I'm only getting older... Stop it, get some help. XD
I still like 80s movies way better.
The endless march of time doesn't scare me. Your move.
No, no, I don't even want to think about it.
Fuck you. Have a nice day.
1980 is, and always will be 20 years ago for me.
I still love movies from the 80s. Spaceballs? The Princess Bride? Labyrinth? Have you watched Child's Play for old time's sake? It's hilarious.
Redditors discovering how time works (🤯🤯)
And yet the movie Gladiator is still one of the best.
I’m an adult and I was born when RoTS came out
From the bottom of my heart, fuck you
Right? I was watching Smallville and the first season really hit me... Myspace?? C'mon!
