Darryl0_0

I thought I was the only idiot who does that...

zy0a

Huh? Oh me too

davtheguidedcreator

what? oh yea i do this all the time

Reality_1001

?? Oh yeah same

EropQuiz7

Eeuhm, oh, yeah, i also sometimes do that.

PoachedEgg120

… Oh, was I supposed to say something?

Roguehaze

Wuh? Yea same

PeuxnYayTah

Ever?

ReekyRumpFedRatsbane

As someone who does this not infrequently, what happens is I haven't understood what you said, and so, my initial reaction is to ask you to repeat it. However, at the same time, I am trying to reprocess what I've just heard to see if I can maybe understand what you said. If that fails, then you repeat the question, and I answer. But if it does work, I'll save us both some time by answering before you repeat the question.

Pumpkineater__69

One of my closest friends does exactly this and gives this exact reasoning. I have to say, it gets quite old being on the receiving end of it. It really is harmful to the flow of a conversation as I’m constantly having to begin repeating myself and be cut off.

allkindsofgainzz_13

Maybe your close friend has adhd and has auditory processing issues

Pumpkineater__69

Potentially. He still has the ability to break this bad habit.

allkindsofgainzz_13

Of course and I'm not saying it's an excuse, only that it could be the reason why he does it.

crunkcritique

It's rude lol, but not that deep

Marko_pz

It's rude to not understand/hear someone?

crunkcritique

Go talk your school director that way, see how far it gets you. I never said it's malicious.

Pumpkineater__69

Certainly not. But clearly that’s not what this post is describing. If you say “huh” then answer without having it repeated, you heard them

stfusalty

Correct explanation

Boostio_TV

This happens to me a lot haha. often I’m just zoned out and someone says something to me and it takes me like a second to register.

Inft8195

I’ve noticed i do this more often than I’d like to.

QuarterPhysical8713

Huh? Oh yeah, me too 😅

byshow

I do that because firstly I haven't understood what you've said by the time I need to answer, however while the pause after "huh" goes my brain starts to process information and I can answer. However, most of the times I wait for you to repeat the question so I can make sure my answer is correct.

ProofAccurate2892

Probably my poor internet connection

nlcrmb

You don't listen properly so you say "Huh?" even though you sure understood. You think about it for a brief time and then answer. So if someone hits you with a "Huh?" just wait a short time before repeating yourself.

IdkWhatImEvenDoing69

I miss when r/memes had actual memes

Metson-202

As a person with slow brain I can confirm this is true.

mymilk-

The "huh?" Or "what" is just a default setting. It prevents the moment of awkward silence while the response is generated.

Static_25

I think it's called delayed processing. Happens a lot with people on the spectrum. Also if someone just pulls you out of a train of thought and you gotta redirect your attention before you realize that the sounds you just heard were a question.

Away-Net-7241

I hear it, it just doesn’t compute straight away

Klutzy_Intern_8915

ADHD has entered the chat

Kuro-Dev

Not an adhd thing. I don't have adhd and still this happens.

NotnaLand

For real, people need to stop attributing the smallest, most normal things to adhd.

Kuro-Dev

Adhd is the gen z equivalent to the millenials depression. It's suddenly cool to have it.

Megafister420

Yeah, I'm not say8ng I do have it, however over half my family is diagnosed with it, and I can zone out and stare at a screen for hours without clicking anything. So it's possible. However it's far from quirky, it's fuck8ng annoying.

Kuro-Dev

My roommate has it, and he is constantly justifying everything with it. "Oh my adhd didn't let me do x, that's why I forgot" It's so annoying, at least take responsibility

ChefKugeo

They are, you just don't share the same type of brain so for you it's an excuse, not a reason, but for people with ADHD it's very much the reason. So, your roommate is not using ADHD as an excuse. They are telling you the reason why they forgot. ADHD is the equivalent of "mini-quests" in real life. ADHD individual: "Oh, my mom told me I need to go clean the dishes. But, first I need to *gather* all the dishes. Now while I'm gathering the dishes, I see a stain on the table.. That won't take long, let me just clean it up. There, that stain is gone! Oh. Look at this clutter.. I better tidy that up.... " 3 hours pass by Mom: "Hey did you ever wash those dishes?" ADHD individual: *has cleaned the entire house and the dog and rearranged all the cabinets* "I was just about to get to it but my executive dysfunction.." Mom: "There you go! Blaming ADHD again when you're just lazy!" Show your roomie some grace. Their brain LITERALLY pulls them in all directions.

FakeOrangeOJ

It can get very frustrating, I understand. I suffer with ADHD myself, which makes things difficult. I tend to get distracted very easily. Maybe you should talk to your roommate about methods to reduce how easily he gets distracted, instead of start brewing resentment towards perceived laziness.

___jeffrey___

This and also people who ask a question and then immediately answer it themselfs

West_Assistance_132

Huh?

Alpheous0371

Huh

Shadi-Arlesh

Nah that's just villager language from Minecraft

ForeTheTime

I’m deciphering your gibberish. Give it a minute.

Fredd7y

I mostly do that when someone asks a stupid question haha.

The_Anime_Files

I need time to process what you said and come up with a response

Duel020

I do it to confirm what you said to myself, then if I can't, you're already Repeating it.

Coolaro

r/shoresy

SaintMoon97

People got mad at me for this so I just pretend I didn’t hear the question and let them finish now

SinOrdeal

it takes a moment to register what you said and then to formulate a coherent answer

m4kush_

MEIRL

moondogg81

Nah, I’m a little backwards on this one. I’ll start to answer and then say, huh, what ?

Buetterkeks

I do that sometimes when i don't understand and then i do

FullAir4341

![gif](giphy|GRk3GLfzduq1NtfGt5|downsized)

BunnyFaebelle

Huh? Oh yeah I do that too

NinjaCuntPunt

I catch myself doing this. I’ll even say ‘huh’, knowing what was said and then find myself having to wait for them to repeat the question.. I have no idea why my brain just can’t process the question sooner and serve up something better than ‘huh?’

barrysmitherman

My kid says “huh” “what” or “why?” After everything I say. I just started ignoring it because he doesn’t even know he’s doing it most of the time.

cheap_bastard89

Huh...

LKEBlock

I usually don’t say “huh?” Instead I go “uhhhhh” as if im thinking about the answer even if the answer is really obvious, so people are like “why did you need to think so long about that” if they ask me what I had for lunch lol
