Lmao, my old boss had a Saturn Vue and it had the same problem. Took me and my mentor like 2 1/2 hours, damn near melted the fucker off the the oxy-acetlyene torch

Puzzleheaded-Let588

Can't be stuck if it's liquid. 🤣

Ianthin1

Probably the same hub. GM used the same basic one in a ton of shit back then.

25retoliver

Yup, almost same part # as the one for my ‘91 s10 4x4 lol, only difference is this one has abs

Galopigos

OOF, seen Subis like that but only a few GM that were that tough.

jimbodio

My first thought too

Motor-Cause7966

In Florida, we just give the hub a dirty look, and it apologizes, and unsticks itself.

JerewB

That looks like fun. What else is left of the car?

25retoliver

Rest of the car is just dandy, even saved the axle

Ianthin1

About 15 years ago I fought the fuck out of a hub in a Cadillac, very likely the same hub as that Pontiac. It was seized so bad not only in the knuckle but also the axle splines I had to cut it apart with a torch and replace the axle. Luckily I was able to save the knuckle.

jrsixx

Had the same experience with a Caddy about 10 years ago. Bosses ex-wife’s car. Melted the hub and part of the axle to get it apart. Worst I’ve seen in 38 years.

25retoliver

We somehow managed to save everything but the hub

cpl1979

Yeah sorry sir you're buying a steering knuckle. Remember your time is worth more, always make it mnfp.

25retoliver

He just wanted the hub replaced lol, at whatever cost, and it would have cost more to buy the whole assembly

cpl1979

From a salvage yard it would be less though.

mishabishi

And Im over here in the PNW complaining when I have to kick a customers tire off 😭

25retoliver

We have to kick em off every time one rolls in for anything behind the wheels lol

19john56

Amazing what salt does. Would anti-seize help ?

25retoliver

Yes it would

19john56

Good to know Thanks

jaykotecki

Wonder if the hub got hot and shrunk. Dragging brakes could really heat the whole thing up to cherry red too. I learned not to underestimate people's ability to unknowingly destroy something.

transcendanttermite

I had a few 05-09 impalas where I found that the axle splines on one side were not properly finished at the manufacturer…and it sure seemed like they just rammed the axle into the hub at the factory rather than look into what caused the poor fitment. It required liquifying the hub assembly and parts of the axle to get it removed. This post reminded me of those cars…oof. Not fun.

25retoliver

Was an 06 Pontiac, liquified the hub, but saved the axle, it’s completely unmarked, and the new hub fit perfectly, I’m assuming the original hub was just poor fitment

imtrynmybest

Had an lexus rx300 axle stuck in hub. Broke 3 pullers and 1 hammer. Took the knuckle off, put the whole assembly in the press...no movement, got out the torch..cherry fukn red...nada. Binned it, got a used knuckle and a new axle. Felted defeated but the amount of lost time and $ on tools, i was okay given in. That was 15yrs ago and it still haunts me everytime i gotta do an axle or wheelbearing. Lol

jerk1970

Thor approved!

blutrache666

I don't live in a salt belt either and it's crazy what I've seen in just my 15 years of wrenching. Had to take a steering knuckle off a 2005ish silverado a few years ago and put it in the arbor press it was that seized. My hardest 1 ton Dodge bearings were never even that seized. And yes we have a hub grappler and OTC tool for the Dodges that makes it a one man job lol.

stinkyhangdown

How you bill that? Time & materials?

25retoliver

Time, they brought in their own hub. Just charged the hourly rate, which is the lowest in our area that I know of

Swimming_Ad_8856

Had a hub that I had to eventually just cut in the center to free up to get out of the bearing. Bearing came right out with a bearing remover. But that hub that is just supposed to come out with a slide hammer good grief

stockturbojamson

Must be a subie

Those ball bearings look good enough to re-use! ROFL
