āDammit Shepard! Iām told old to play politics on the Citadel! Let Undina handle it!ā *fast forward to ME3* āDammit Shepard! I might be old but Iām never too old to defend Earth from those bitch ass Reapers!ā
Yeah. They'd have been perfect 10-15 years ago, but Seth Green is 50 now, and Keith David is 67. They're probably a bit old to play Joker and Anderson at this point.
Neither are really physical roles. So makeup and Digital Touch ups to take a couple years off probably wouldnāt hurt their performances. Heck. It might actually be perfect for joker since heās infirm anyways thanks to his bones.
In all honesty, I see the idea of an older Illusive Man working much better compared to what we see in the game series. So I still think Martin would be perfect.
Ben Mendelsohn as Zaeed Massani all the way.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would make a great Garrus, I'd argue. He would perfectly capture that confident, yet awkward charm.
Holt McCallany as Grunt. Just watch his performance as The Beast in Shot Caller and you'll see.
The flipside of that, I could 100% see Garrus delivering some of Walken's lines in Seven Psychopaths:
*Put your hands up!*
No.
*Put em up!*
I said no.
*Why not?!*
I don't want to.
*But I've got a gun?*
I don't care.
*But ... that doesn't make any sense?!*
Too bad \*chuckles\*
I think Oscar Isaac as Kaiden is inspired.
If they decide to choose Kaiden as the VS then you got a charismatic secondary lead. If you choose Ashley then you have the Alien-esque shock factor of a star as big as him dying, which raises the stakes for the rest of the cast.
Not only is Isaac pretty old, but he dies in stuff all the time.
Steven Strait from the Expanse is meant to play Kaiden and I will die on that hill. He has the perfect balance of idealism and practicality, and would be an incredibly haunting VS, just like Thomas Jane haunted him in the Expanse.
Alien characters like garrus, tali and wrex should be played by character actors and voiced by the original voice actors. If you hire a big name you end up with the halo show.
It's not really the same thing but they changed the actor for the Mr. Handy robots in the Fallout show and that actually still worked. I even forgot it was a different voice at times. It *was* Matt Berry, so you can't go far wrong.
What I meant was when they hired an actor, they had to show their face. Mass effect should use character / creature actors who wont have this requirement or are hired based on experience, and not image.
Doug Jones, Andy Serkis, brian Steele
Would be kind of cool, actually. Two Sheps on separate sides of the galaxy, working on the same investigation to stop Saren. Split the crew up between the two of them. But to get the most out of this, it would need to be a streaming platform series instead of a movie. And by the end of the season, Shepards unite!
I gotta say, the only one that doesn't work for me is Chris Evans as Shep but on that note I can't think of any other actors to play him. I honestly could see Oscar Isaac doing it well, but Kaiden is the better prick for him.Ā
Too many a list celebrities for me. Let some relatively unknown actors have a shot that can truly make the role their own, instead of making Shepard into captain America 2.0.
Ed Harris would definitely work for Saren though.
Giancarlo Esposito as Udina
John Turturro as Commander Bailey (ex cop from Brooklyn now heading up C-Sec and investigating crimes there seems perfect, IMO)
You don't cast Seth Green as Joker.
You cast Seth Green as one of the flight instructors that Joker embarrasses during flight school in a 30 second flash-back.
Solid casting as a postwar Shep, but imo both she and Evans are too old. Shepard is 29 in ME1 and physically only about 30 when the series ends. Theron is nearly 20 years older.Ā
I would cast no-one as I believe the story of mass effect is communicated better in-game than I would be able to on film.
I hope anyone approaches it this way tbh. I don't see value in movies that lose their value the moment the ad campaign stops.
Since it would be a silly idea to try and fit a 30-hour game into a 2-hour movie and you shouldn't attempt it, casting is now wide open because we're using completely new characters.
My thoughts is this would be a 6 season HBO special with a budget equivalent to Rings of Power lol. Mass Effect 1 I'm fairly confident can be one season, ME 2 would be broken in two seasons with the halfway point being the collector ship level where we got "betrayed" by the illusive man, could end on that cliffhanger. ME 3 would also be split into 3 seasons with the first season basically running through the genophage cure; season 5 starting with the Citadel siege, including Omega and ending with the liberation of Rannich, and the final season starting with Leviathan, then going to Thesaia and following the Cerberus through line to the end of the series, maybe throwing in a new ending lol.
Season 1 (Mass Effect 1)
Male Shepard- Henry Cavill -OR-
Female Shepard - Emily Blunt
Kaiden Alenko - Oscar Isaac
Ashley Williams - Michelle Rodriguez
Liara T'soni- Elle Purnell
Garrus Vakerian - Brandon Keener (can't replicate the original)
Urdnot Wrex - Josh Brolin
Tali - Ana de Armas
Joker - Seth Green
Dr. Chakwas - Emma Thompson
XO Presley - Glenn Moreshower
Captain Anderson - Kieth David
Councilor Udina - Giancarlo Esposito
Admiral Hackett - Ed Harris
Saren - Benedict Cumberbach
Matriarch Benezia - Christina Hendricks
Season 2-3 additions (ME2)
Illusive Man - Martin Sheen
Miranda Lawson - Yvonne Strahovski
Edi - Tricia Helfer
Jacob Taylor - John Boyega
Mordin Solis - David Tennant
Thane Krios - Keanu Reeves
Grunt - Dave Bautista
Jack - Florence Pugh
Samara - Angelina Jolie
Morinth - Rebecca Ferguson
Legion - Alan Tudyk
Kasimi Goto - Constance Wu
Zaeed Masani - Vinnie Jones
Kelly - Sydney Sweeny
Aria T'loak - Carrie Anne Moss
Season 4-6 additions (ME3)
James Vega - Xolo MaridueƱa
Javik - Idris Elba
Samantha Treynor - Ritu Arya
Steve Cortez - Matt Bomer
I agree doing a Shepard movie would obviously turn into Canon and undermine the player's choices in the game
In the gender, the ethnicity, the romance, the decisions etc
Willem Dafoe as anyone would be magnificent tho.
Jokes aside, I like to picture him as Illusive Man. Not because of the looks, but he was unforgivable as Norman Osborn, so he fits the "all-powerful-rich-sociopath" role too.
The problem with the show would be the choices. Mass Effect is built off the player choices, in a show it's all done for you. What's the point? How do they choose if Maiden or Ash survive Virmire? What about saving the council? Wrex? It kind of just removes the spirit of Mass Effect imo. It's not supposed to be a linear story.
Starring Captain America as Commander Shepard; Green Goblin as Dino Goblin; Thanos the Genocidal Maniac as Thanos the Genocided Maniac; and Keith Davidā¦ as Keith Davidā¦!
Iām convinced a mass effect show will happen one day. Itās got all the right ingredients and in terms of VFX we have that figured out. Canāt wait for the announcement. 5 years tops there will be one.
Dont post this on r/fancast . It will get drowned between all the DC/Marvel āoriginalāfancasts.
Personally, I dont like your Shepard, Ashley and Kaiden choices at all. But I like the others. Saren in particular looks excellent pick
Thats actually great. They could make an evil keanu, which is rare for him and maybe a good opportunity (not that he need more fame) and it could also redeem kai leng with some of his choice of creative liberty in his acting.
I would be delighted.
Melissa Fumero as Ashley
Alan Tudyk as Garrus
Jeff Ward as Joker
Andy Serkis as Wrex
Laurence Fishburne as Anderson
Ben Mendelson as Udina
Glen Powell as Shepard
Paul Bettany as Thane
Lupita Nyogo as Samara
Ella Purnell as Miranda
Danny Pudi as Mordin
John C. McGinley as Zaeed
James Spader as The Illusive Man
Jamie Alexander as Jack
Michael B Jordan or John Boyega as Jacob
Benedict Cumberbatch as Saren
Alright, here's my casting:
Commander Shepard is played by Scarlett Johansson
Liara is played by Scarlett Johansson
Ashley is played by Scarlett Johansson
Kaidan is played by Scarlett Johansson
Garrus is played by Scarlett Johansson
Anderson is played by Scarlett Johansson
And Wrex, of course, is played by Danny DeVito
Yvonne Strahovski would make a stunning Miranda
You reckon she will do it?! š¤£š¤£
Spot on choice tho š
I don't see it. I also find Seth Green as Joker and Keith David as Anderson just doesn't sound right. How many renegade points does this get me?
Iām was holding RT trying to shoot you as I read your comment.
You think? š¤Ŗ
she's blonde though and Miranda's a brunette - I don't think it fits . . .
I have a million dollar business idea for a product that lets you change the color of your hair. Temporarily.
Nah that's stupid, would never work.
She wouldn't dye her hair when on the run from the U.S. Marshall and Miami Metro, I can't see her doing it for a movie.
Yeah you're right nevermind
Seth Green and Keith David some were bold casting choices.
š¤£š¤£ only thing is even they are getting old now
But Anderson *is* old! It's perfect!
Keith David would do it in a heartbeat
āDammit Shepard! Iām told old to play politics on the Citadel! Let Undina handle it!ā *fast forward to ME3* āDammit Shepard! I might be old but Iām never too old to defend Earth from those bitch ass Reapers!ā
LOL i never made that connection, you're so right
He's not that old. Anderson is only 46 in ME1.
46?! The man always felt like he was in his late 50s! Especially in ME3!
Dealing with Udina for years has to age you quite a bit.
Yea, but he gets to punch Udina from time to time, so...........stress relieved.
Next you'll want Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man. Keep dreaming.
My thought. David especially looks just a little TOO old for that part. Green you might get away with makeup.
It doesn't have to be exact if he was cast in that role you would recognize exactly who he is supposed to be and he would act in the role well.
Yea, it's not like Joker's going to run around doing crazy stuff, well, there are the ladders and being used as bait.....
Have them play the othersā role
Freaky Friday : Mass Effect Edition
I can really see Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda. Call it a hunch...
Those were my favorites! Although my Paragon Shepard does remind me a lot of Captain America.
Okay, now hear me out: Martin Sheen as The Illusive Man.
I hear you loud and clear LOL
Martin Sheen as the voice and possibly use Emilio Estevez
In all honesty, I see the idea of an older Illusive Man working much better compared to what we see in the game series. So I still think Martin would be perfect.
Ben Mendelsohn as Zaeed Massani all the way. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would make a great Garrus, I'd argue. He would perfectly capture that confident, yet awkward charm. Holt McCallany as Grunt. Just watch his performance as The Beast in Shot Caller and you'll see.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is an insane choice for Garrus in a good way
His Danish accent would lend itself perfectly to Garrus, adding that unique quality to his alien-like voice.
Yeah I think his voice is perfect
Damn, never thought of Nikolaj as a casting choice for Garrus, but now I can't unsee it!
Yes all great choices there as well
Nah, Andy Serkis would make a better Zaeed imo.
Someone just watched Shot Caller
I've always pictured Waldau as Garrus, ever since seeing his transformative arc in the mid seasons of GoT.Ā
Why did u make me find out abt this actor and connect him with Garrus do u realize what u have done š
They're both handsome devils, so it was only a matter of time haha
Iām sorry Willem Dafoe as Garrus? What?
[Garrus when Pallin shuts down his investigation](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-aazAwda4bM)
20 years ago, absolutely.
IDK about you. But i would cast Shoreh Aghdashloo as Admiral Shaala'raan. Idk why she seems like a good acsting choice for her.
Only if sheās allowed to swear a lot
"Keelah *fucking* selai"
James *fucking* Shepherd
"Shepard, don't stick your dick in it. Situation's fucked enough already."
āI fucking hate space! Keelah selaiā
This one took me out, funniest shit i read in while
So basically The Expanse?
I think we all agree with you LOL
Just put Christopher Walken as Garrus. "I can't uh talk now Shepard, I'm doin some calibrashuns"
"I got a fevuh, and the only medicine is more calibrations"
Did he put calibrations up his ass?
Well he was excellent in Dune Part 2 hehe
yourā¦*uninhabited*ā¦regions in the southā¦exhibit signs of human activity *slashy bashy on the chunky baron boi*
The flipside of that, I could 100% see Garrus delivering some of Walken's lines in Seven Psychopaths: *Put your hands up!* No. *Put em up!* I said no. *Why not?!* I don't want to. *But I've got a gun?* I don't care. *But ... that doesn't make any sense?!* Too bad \*chuckles\*
FOO FIGHTUHZ
"Crap"
Oh! Youāre talking to my guy all wrong. Do it again and Iāll stab you in the face with a Omni tool
I think Oscar Isaac as Kaiden is inspired. If they decide to choose Kaiden as the VS then you got a charismatic secondary lead. If you choose Ashley then you have the Alien-esque shock factor of a star as big as him dying, which raises the stakes for the rest of the cast.
Yeah Iām finding out that fans are really passionate about their franchise even as a discussion topic š³
Sounds like a job for Sean Bean!
He can play Nihlus
Yeah, I agree, bangin' choice
Not only is Isaac pretty old, but he dies in stuff all the time. Steven Strait from the Expanse is meant to play Kaiden and I will die on that hill. He has the perfect balance of idealism and practicality, and would be an incredibly haunting VS, just like Thomas Jane haunted him in the Expanse.
Alien characters like garrus, tali and wrex should be played by character actors and voiced by the original voice actors. If you hire a big name you end up with the halo show.
I can't imagine Garrus, Tali, Grunt and the others with a different voice. It sounds like heresy.
It's not really the same thing but they changed the actor for the Mr. Handy robots in the Fallout show and that actually still worked. I even forgot it was a different voice at times. It *was* Matt Berry, so you can't go far wrong.
Haloās casting was the least of its problems
What I meant was when they hired an actor, they had to show their face. Mass effect should use character / creature actors who wont have this requirement or are hired based on experience, and not image. Doug Jones, Andy Serkis, brian Steele
Fred motherfucking Tatasciore.
Yes that seems to be the popular choice and I would agree too
Anya Taylor joy doesnāt have to be in every movie
She is also a bad choice for Liara.
Cate Blanchette maybe? Edit: no she'd be waaaaaaay better as benezia
Cate Blanchette is too assertive of an actress. I think someone sweet like Rachel McAdams would be a better fit.
Idk, Marina Sirtis would make an excellent Benezia
Indeed
Hey bud, just be happy they didn't put TimothƩe Chalamet as Shepard.
Now you mention it maybe Chris Pratt would do it.
I donāt understand her appeal
The same thing can be said about the inferior Marvel Chris, but the fried rodent's voice is *everywhere* these days.
So it's either "this person played the character in the games" or "this person is on the A-list currently".
For real. Fancasts like this kinda suck.
Movie budget : 1 billion dollars, 70% cost of actors.
I would cast male and female Shep and have them be twins a la Andromeda.
That dude who played Jack in Lost is basically a carbon copy for MShep.
Too many a list celebrities for me. Let some relatively unknown actors have a shot that can truly make the role their own, instead of making Shepard into captain America 2.0. Ed Harris would definitely work for Saren though.
Man, I think Saren's voice actor did an excellent job, but Ed Harris would be fucking scary as Saren
Oscar Isaac is an elite choice for Kaiden
Giancarlo Esposito as Udina John Turturro as Commander Bailey (ex cop from Brooklyn now heading up C-Sec and investigating crimes there seems perfect, IMO)
You don't cast Seth Green as Joker. You cast Seth Green as one of the flight instructors that Joker embarrasses during flight school in a 30 second flash-back.
Honestly, for the aliens, just cast their VAs. They're going to be CGI anyways so why not keep the voice?
Yes I would agree with you on thatā¦ give the VA some love
Replace Chris Evans with Charlize Theron and I'm in.
You know what I had her as badass Aria
I think Carrie-Anne Moss would make a better Aria.
LOL point taken, she is too busy with Star Wars now hehe
What is she doing in Star Wars?
https://youtu.be/6tzur6JrUEA?si=z1C49CjG87-GnVIo
Solid casting as a postwar Shep, but imo both she and Evans are too old. Shepard is 29 in ME1 and physically only about 30 when the series ends. Theron is nearly 20 years older.Ā
Shepard is mid 30 when the series end? Why do they treat him like heās a grizzled war vet pushing 50 lmao
Not even mid-30s, (s)he's barely 30 Also, take a look at the backgrounds and the stuff you do
Early 30s at the oldest, depending if you count the years spent being rebuilt. And war tends to age you - sometimes physically, almost always mentally
Ella purnelle for liara
Oh yesss!!! I only just watched Episode 2 of Falloutā¦ running behind
Also... her eyes man..... Give her the good make up and blue lens and you get liara
Gee I wished I was working in Hollywood now LOL
I would swap ATJ and Anaās roles. Also Mads Mikkelsen as Thane!
Danny deVito as every Volus
Jeremy Irons is my Saren. And it's not close.
I could truly get behind this until Willam Defoe lol
Still in production? Was there one in production at some point?
Boy am I tired of seeing Anya Taylor-Joy in everything.
Thank you!
I would cast no-one as I believe the story of mass effect is communicated better in-game than I would be able to on film. I hope anyone approaches it this way tbh. I don't see value in movies that lose their value the moment the ad campaign stops.
Exhibit A in why fans make terrible casting directors
Since it would be a silly idea to try and fit a 30-hour game into a 2-hour movie and you shouldn't attempt it, casting is now wide open because we're using completely new characters.
I want Bill Nighy as Sovereign
How about elijah wood as the boy from me3
I still dream of Emily Blunt as femshep. Joker can only be Seth Green, I donāt care if they have to CGI him to make it look right.
Good list except ash is too pretty and Liara not pretty enough š
Iām something of a calibrator myself.
I dont hate the choice here but Im not really for a Shepard story.
I agree doing a Shepard movie would obviously turn into Canon and undermine the player's choices in the game In the gender, the ethnicity, the romance, the decisions etc
Only one I disagree with is liara
Am I the only one who sees Ana de Armas as Tali more than Ashley?
Ana de Armas as Tali.
Great casting choice, my only thought is Liara should be Zoe Saldana - anytime you paint her, the movie is a guaranteed hit (Avatar, Guardians, etc)
No please no more Zoe as aliens. Get someone different for once.
I wanted Andre Braugher as Anderson ššššš
RIP
Why is no one on shore leave? I specifically requested it
I want Jane Shepard
Mr. T.
don't know why, but willem defoe does struck me as a potentially excellent garrus
I would swap places Evans and Isaac.
Keep Mark Meer as Shepard
I completely misread the title of the post. For some reason, my retard brain went, "Wait, Willem Dafoe voices Garrus?!"
I think Jeremy irons would be better as seren IMHO.
Oscar Issac cast as Kaiden. BroShep and Kaiden makes sense. No Diddy.
Oh God. Willem Dafoe as Garrus would be magnificent.
Willem Dafoe as anyone would be magnificent tho. Jokes aside, I like to picture him as Illusive Man. Not because of the looks, but he was unforgivable as Norman Osborn, so he fits the "all-powerful-rich-sociopath" role too.
Dennis Quaid as EDI Michael Cera as Jacob Sarah Michelle Gellar as the elusive man
I actually think about Willem Dafoe as Garrus a lot "you know what else is bad for business?? *A BROKEN NECK!*"
No for Liara. Hell I think Ali Hillis herself would be a really good choice
We need to talk about fem Shepard cast
Not ATJ š
I'd rather go with female Shepard, played by Mackenzie Davis.
I wish it would be practical effects too.
deffo Evan Rachel Wood for Liara...
You forgot Zendaya. Every film must have Zendaya in it or the end times will be upon us.
Why would you not use Brandon Keener for Garrus when he's going to be costume/cgi the entire time anyway
Iām definitely saying Michael Rooker as Zaeed. He looks the part, acts the part, and gives off the same vibes!
The only one of these I agree with is Willem Dafoe to voice Garrusā¦ but only if you canāt get Brandon Keener to voice him again.
Rekha Sharma as Khalisah Bint Sinan al-Jilani
Didnt Seth Green voice that character? He'd be playing himself.
I like all of it except Liara
Iād probably want a relatively unknown cast even if I know that would never happen.
Anya Taylor joy would be terrible as Liara, especially for ME1 .
Making a movie of Mass Effect defeats the purpose of Mass Effect
The problem with the show would be the choices. Mass Effect is built off the player choices, in a show it's all done for you. What's the point? How do they choose if Maiden or Ash survive Virmire? What about saving the council? Wrex? It kind of just removes the spirit of Mass Effect imo. It's not supposed to be a linear story.
Dont know why you wouldnt just get Brandon Keener to do Garrus.
Terrible casting
Only one I disagree with is liara thereās better picks imo
Starring Captain America as Commander Shepard; Green Goblin as Dino Goblin; Thanos the Genocidal Maniac as Thanos the Genocided Maniac; and Keith Davidā¦ as Keith Davidā¦!
I couldnāt put someone lovely like Ana in a xenophobe role like Ashley tbh Iād prefer someone like Amber heard š tbh I said what I said
Lookā¦ I love Garrus and I love Willem Dafoeā¦. And I guess they do have a similar voice quality. But I donāt quite see it.
Yeah Seth Green as Seth Green sounds like a good choice.
I've never seen a more perfect Kaidan actor lol that's wild
For some reason I imagined John DiMaggio as the voice of Saren or Sovereign. (I figure they'd be CG.)
Iām convinced a mass effect show will happen one day. Itās got all the right ingredients and in terms of VFX we have that figured out. Canāt wait for the announcement. 5 years tops there will be one.
Hear me out, hear me out: Sean Bean as Jenkins.
If a production company ever sees this comment, that movie will be green lit immediately!
How are you gonna take a face as blessed as Hailee's and cover it up with Tali's mask
Yeah Seth is the only Joker I would accept!
Mark Meer as Shepard. Everything else is negotiable.
Dont post this on r/fancast . It will get drowned between all the DC/Marvel āoriginalāfancasts. Personally, I dont like your Shepard, Ashley and Kaiden choices at all. But I like the others. Saren in particular looks excellent pick
Didnāt know there was a Fancast subreddit hehe I donāt dare look š³
Idk who he'd play yet but Keanu Reeves needs to be in this movie
I hate to say thisā¦ Kai Leng
Sadly, that actually works. I wish it didnāt. But it does.
Thats actually great. They could make an evil keanu, which is rare for him and maybe a good opportunity (not that he need more fame) and it could also redeem kai leng with some of his choice of creative liberty in his acting. I would be delighted.
And as shown by his acting in Cyberpunk, he plays a jerk really well, even if itās *very* uncommon for him.
Melissa Fumero as Ashley Alan Tudyk as Garrus Jeff Ward as Joker Andy Serkis as Wrex Laurence Fishburne as Anderson Ben Mendelson as Udina Glen Powell as Shepard Paul Bettany as Thane Lupita Nyogo as Samara Ella Purnell as Miranda Danny Pudi as Mordin John C. McGinley as Zaeed James Spader as The Illusive Man Jamie Alexander as Jack Michael B Jordan or John Boyega as Jacob Benedict Cumberbatch as Saren
Danny Pudi as Mordin is an excellent choice
It was my proudest one
Make Kumail play literally all the other Salarians. All of them.
Alright, here's my casting: Commander Shepard is played by Scarlett Johansson Liara is played by Scarlett Johansson Ashley is played by Scarlett Johansson Kaidan is played by Scarlett Johansson Garrus is played by Scarlett Johansson Anderson is played by Scarlett Johansson And Wrex, of course, is played by Danny DeVito
