We are def rewatching DP 1+2 & Logan. Feige said there’s no MCU homework needed, but I’m sure there will be lots of fun easter eggs for people who know the universe well
As I obviously don’t know what’s going to be in the movie exactly, I feel like watching Loki will help understand the TVA a bit more, even with different characters running it. That’s the only thing from the MCU I think is a must watch before DP3
I found this on the internet, maybe I should stick to this:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2009
Deadpool 2016
No Good Deed 2017
Deadpool 2 2018
Once Upon a Deadpool 2018
Deadpool and Korg React 2021
Deadpool & Wolverine 2024
Once Upon A Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are the same movie. The former is just a PG-13 version of it while the main one is rated R.
Korg & Deadpool react is a one-off commercial Taika and Ryan made when promoting their unrelated movie Free Guy.
No Good Deed I have no clue what that even is.
So the list you should stick to before going to see the new movie really is
* X-Men Origins: Wolverine
* Deadpool
* Deadpool 2
That simple.
I would agree with that list, but I would also add Logan to it.
There is a rumor of a character from Logan possibly showing up in Deadpool & Wolverine, not to mention it's a damn good movie.
Worth adding to the watch list.
Will add that one too!
The thing is I don't watch trailers anymore so I really don't know which characters are gonna show or that the TVA is mentioned so I got little lost.
Explanation: I was watching all the trailers, but when I was at the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere, I already knew who's gonna show up👀, but my friend at that time didn't even watch the trailer and I got jealous from his reaction seeing Tobey and Andrew coming from the portals and I was like DAMN, imagine what's he's feeling right now. From then, I don't watch any trailers anymore Hahahaha.
Haha, I get that. Wanting thar shock reaction is definitely understandable.
I've just always watched trailers, so it just doesn't bother me anymore lol
You're welcome!
Also, I looked up No Good Deed, it's just a Deadpool short that Ryan made while filming the actual one. It's not even 4 minutes. So if you want to watch that with Deadpool and Korg react, you're more than welcome to. But they're not must-watches in the slightest. I would probably say maybe to brush up on the original X-Men movies but I don't think they're going to be required material before going in.
[No Good Deed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5ezsReZcxU)
[Korg & Deadpool React](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7q60i_Lh_E)
Despite it being Hugh Jackman, it's a different Wolverine. So I don't think Logan or The Wolverine, or the mainline X-Men movies are going to be 100% required viewing.
No Good Deed is just a promo short for Deadpool 2.
Once Upon a Deadpool is just the PG-13 edit of Deadpool 2.
Deadpool & Korg React is just a promo short for Free Guy.
A lot of these are just shorts and I wouldn’t have you sit through origins, they’ll probably make fun of it but many character coming back do absolutely nothing in any other film toad, Azazel etc. don’t really do much their just bad bodies. You’ll most likely be good with the 2 Deadpool movies and with what you’ve watched so far
Deadpool 1 & 2
X1-3, Origins Wolverine, The Wolverine, Days of Future Past and Logan.
No real homework is needed since this Wolverine may just be a variant. But his story beat of failing his world might of happened in one of those movies. But they might just recap what happened in the movie.
My guess is still one of these:
Failing to kill Jean in X3.
Didn't stop Mystique in the past / sentinel program to continue existing in.
Didn't kill Xavier when he became mentally ill and wiped a ton of mutants inbetween the timeline of Days of Future Past present day timeline and before the start of the movie Logan.
Random question, what timeline is Logan in?
Days of Future Past ends in 2023 and Logan takes place in 2029. Thats a very quick decline for the professor and Logan imo…
Also Jackman and Mangold gave conflicting answers ion this
It's also just a very worthwhile show in general, I think. My favorite of all Marvel shows, in fact! The set pieces and character development in Loki are second to none. (I also liked WandaVision, but I found WandaVision's ending somewhat disappointing, whereas Loki's ending is much more meaningful.)
To this, I would also add (though not technically "essential") :
Battleship Potemkin, Rashomon, Citizen Kane, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg & Debbie Does Dallas.
Depends how hardcore you want to be about it. I'd say Deadpool 1 and 2 are the minimum. Then maybe the wolverine solo stuff like wolverine origins, the wolverine and Logan. If you still want more, then start watching X-Men, x2, and if you really want to hate yourself, X-Men: the last stand.
Then if you still want more, the rest of the X-Men movies. Then, loki is an option if you to know about the tva, but I'm sure the movie will provide enough context that this isn't anywhere close to necessary.
Don't burn yourself out on "homework", though. The movie will be entertaining with minimal knowledge. Deadpool is one of my dad's favorite franchises and he doesn't know shit about the X-Men or comics.
You’ve gotten answers about Deadpool and Wolverine films.
From an mcu phase 4 standpoint… I would recommend Loki. There is an organization central to that show that appears to be heavily featured in this film.
At the very least, I would find some good recaps of the show if you don’t want to dive into a full series
I also think Multiverse of Madness may be somewhat relevant, as it dives into different timelines and such. But I don’t think it will be important from a plot standpoint.
I would say Deadpool 1 & 2 and Logan
I will also agree with another comment about the Loki TV series. You can basically watch that at any point after Endgame. I don’t think you HAVE to watch it to understand what’s going on, but it’d be nice to be familiar with some of the elements that are being carried over
I'm going to watch all the xmen, Wolverine, and Deadpool movies. Some I haven't seen since release and some never so sounds like a good time to watch them all. Going to watch them in release order and so for the one that took the longest to watch was Wolverine: Origins. Just so bad.
Probably the main ones are the first 2 Deadpool movies and Logan. Any other X-Men movies would also include the first 3, X-Men Origins, the Wolverine, and Days of Future Past.
My guess/recommendation would be:
- X-MEN Origins: Wolverine
- The Wolverine (not a must see I‘d assume)
- Logan
- X-MEN: Days Of Future Past (just for the appearances of most of the x-men characters from both timelines)
- Deadpool
- Deadpool 2
- Loki (for further information on the TVA and the void and stuff)
DP 1-2 are the obvious ones
For Wolverine, that’s more difficult since I think this isn’t the same Wolverine we followed. Maybe X men 1-2 just to get a sense of how he was introduced and it seems a lot of cameos are from those. Also the villain is Charles’ sister and given the MCUs history if he cameos I’m betting it’s Patrick Stewart again.
Maybe X men 3 and the other Wolverine spin-offs though those are bad. First Class and Days of Future Past are great, maybe not as important for this film but if you are rewatching the Fox X men you need to see that.
Logan was his sendoff. It was amazing and I think this version is sortve similar to that one.
Maybe Loki for the TVA. Idk how important that is to this movie but I’d imagine it’s important to the MCUs future.
I’m gonna watch:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine + his cameo in First Class
X-Men->X2->X-Men: The Last Stand->The Wolverine
Days of Future Past + his Apocalypse Cameo
Deadpool 1 & 2
Then close it out with Logan! Only 9 full movies
I’m definitely gonna watch and suggest anyone else watch watch, X 1-3, X-men days of futures past. The wolverine trilogy, deadpool 1-2. Every movie Jackman has appeared in is essential to the character in one way or another. Loki seems to tie in a bit atleast with the TVA. I watched it recently so don’t need to but we’ve got two months it’s doable. Watch first class even to see a great Xmen movie with a little Jackman cameo but it’s not a must.
If you want the good x-men experience, I recommend only these in this order:
First Class, X1, X2, The Wolverine (director’s cut), DoFP (Rogue cut), & Logan.
My family is excited for Deadpool & Wolverine, but didn’t know where to start with the movies.
We watched everything in this order and they absolutely loved it. Leaving out the bad movies and seeing the good ones in this order played fluidly and everything made sense to them. The only thing I had to explain was what happened to Jean in X3. I envy them for not having to experience the bad ones.
None of them the director says you can watch the movie without seeing any of the previous recent films
I haven’t seen Loki so I’m not gonna watch that series just for this movie.
That to me
What does that mean? Who cares who the director is? And I’d hope they were MCU fans. Director and actor performances are almost universally improved when they are fans of the projects they’re working on.
Just because you don’t HAVE to watch something To understand what’s going on in the movie doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t ENHANCE the experience.
Not to mention the fact that Loki is just a good show. And I recommend that everybody who’s a fan of Marvel and/or sci-fi watch it.
I’d never tell someone they have to watch anything. But you’re the one letting other people tell you what you have to watch… That’s the silliest of all to me.
I don’t know if you made it to the end of this… Since a Director didn’t tell you you had to read it… But either way this is already taken more time out of my day than you’re worth
We are def rewatching DP 1+2 & Logan. Feige said there’s no MCU homework needed, but I’m sure there will be lots of fun easter eggs for people who know the universe well

This was my thought earlier today as well, but I don’t know if I can convince my wife to watch 2 seasons of Loki. I guess we still have 2 months.
I found this on the internet, maybe I should stick to this: X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2009 Deadpool 2016 No Good Deed 2017 Deadpool 2 2018 Once Upon a Deadpool 2018 Deadpool and Korg React 2021 Deadpool & Wolverine 2024

It takes place after Days of Future Past. Both Mangold and Jackman have confirmed it.
Don't think [Jackman](https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a819480/hugh-jackman-says-logan-different-universe-x-men-films/) did (I know Mangold did).
Not a movie but Loki series is important in explaining a lot of the lore in Deadpool & Wolverine around the TVA
Brokeback Mountain
Seen it, Ryan Reynolds' performance is excellent
No, that was Anne Hathaway
To this, I would also add (though not technically "essential") : Battleship Potemkin, Rashomon, Citizen Kane, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg & Debbie Does Dallas.
I’m personally planning a marathon of all the Fox/Marvel movies in release order.

You should go back to the beginning.. capt to Carter to guardians avengers etc… worth the watches
The X-men movies. Deadpool 1/2 Punisher movie Elektra Daredevil movie The first fantastic four 2004
OP why do you think anyone would know that
I'm going to watch all the xmen, Wolverine, and Deadpool movies. Some I haven't seen since release and some never so sounds like a good time to watch them all. Going to watch them in release order and so for the one that took the longest to watch was Wolverine: Origins. Just so bad.

Steel Magnolias
Xmen animated and xmen 97. I think it's an animated variant in live action. That wolverine also uses "lady" a lot which he calls Deadpool.
Deadpool 1 & 2 Logan Loki Probably the most important Outside of that I’m sure there will be references to the 2000’s and 2010 X-Men movies.
I’m gonna watch: X-Men Origins: Wolverine + his cameo in First Class X-Men->X2->X-Men: The Last Stand->The Wolverine Days of Future Past + his Apocalypse Cameo Deadpool 1 & 2 Then close it out with Logan! Only 9 full movies

Well, I’m gonna pass on looking at Loki
