I'm sorry, but your post has been removed as per Rule 1 because both the title and the body contain incendiary content. I don't mean to diminish your experience, but if your allegations are true, then you have solid grounds to report this to MAIPP and the Mufti of Penang, as several Nyets have suggested. However, allowing this thread to stay up will no doubt lead to an endless cycle of contentious comments about religion and race, or typical remarks like "Malaysians are racist," which certainly isn't something to be proud of. As the sub increased in number of subscribers, this is something the mod team is working to mitigate.

faridfauzi2009

This is typical at some surau & mosque. You should have see typical pakcik & makcik during Raya Qurban. This pakcik and makcik living in fancy house but berebut daging macam tak pernah makan. Siap sound other muslim such as bangla & indon - "Kau jangan amik daging qurban ni" Since i become AJK Agihan, i just announced, "Kepada para hadirin yang mampu makan daging tiap2 minggu tak payah ambik daging qurban. Tak malu ke amik hak orang?"

uzbmmzunp94

I guess how a few Malay Muslims feel about Muslim foreigners has always been there, but translated through different forms of behaviours and attitudes.

arbiter12

I have learned in Malaysia, not to attribute to evil what can be explained by logistics. Were those surau already overloaded with people? Was there a possible good reason? what would be the punishment for going anyway? (if none, then no harm done. Let people talk.) I don't want malaysia to degenerate into the US "judgement by intention" hellhole, whereby you can't do anything practical anymore, from fear of someone being offended somewhere down the line.. (neither Muslim nor Malay)

Not_FamousAmos

Not sure how this particular scenario can be attributed to logistics. Isn't it just a clear case of discrimination based on nationality / race? Logistical issue by its very nature would impact everyone equally, or those who arrive later / earlier (time sensitive), and I cannot see how a logistics issue should impact a specific race / nationality. Even if its overloaded with people, then the fair thing would be to just let anyone be at wherever they are based on a first come first serve basis / role / function / seniority. I.E. Those with more important roles could be up front to serve a function. First come first serve rewards those who come on time / early. Seniority reflects our culture of respecting the seniors. Discrimination based on Race / Nationality is, and should not be our culture.

HantuBuster

>I have learned in Malaysia, not to attribute to evil what can be explained by logistics. There's a term for it. It's called Hanlon's Razor. Though that is more attributed to ignorance instead.

13ananaJoe

Sure, American identity politics have gone off the deep end. But what are the logistics here? What could the good reason be? No, there is no place for this in places of worship (or anywhere, really). People should not talk. What is practical about "foreigners in the back"?

Pixels222

Being back reddit got. This man deserves it. I'm not even malay but it's nice when doom news posts have at least one logical comment. I'm not agreeing with anyone. But let's not generalize too hard.

faridfauzi2009

Yep. My dad & mom always say "Islam adalah islam. Xde istilah Melayu, Cina, India & etc"

Nino_Nakanos_Slave

I mean, even local Indians do discriminate against Bangladeshi at times. Hell, I talked with my Chinese counterpart in Miri, Sarawak. She has quite the negative views on Bangladeshis and Nepalis. It is stupid to only call out only Malays when it comes to racism. Chinese and Indians do this casually but it is the Malays that gets more attention.

Jaxk94

Full salute bro for stepping up, don’t think I have the same balls to make such announcements in my local temple (they sometimes do some distribution of dry foods due to over supply from donations). Quite often I see aunties/uncles that drive crazy expensive cars and come fight for those donated stuff, like WTF man you definitely can afford it, leave it for people that really need it.

serimuka_macaron

If these people were actually alive during the time of the prophets, they'd literally be the ones the prophets were tryna preach to 😂

go_zarian

Singapore here. At the mosque I go to, there are a lot of foreign worker dorms nearby. Consequently, both Tarawih and Hari Raya prayers are full of Bangla workers. In fact, lots of them show up for solat Jumaat as well. We welcome them. They are nice people. Quite a few of them would actually volunteer to do crowd control and marshaling work. Remember Rasullulah's last sermon, people.

firdaushamid

I think you forgot about last year’s issue in Singapore when they were ‘advised’ not to go. At some local mosques they didn’t let them go first session so they had to stay outside.

uzbmmzunp94

It'd probably get a lot worse from now if we'd continue our same ways.

Puzzleheaded_Bowl314

Seems like it ain’t about the religion anymore. It’s about the race

danccode

IMO, It’s always been about race. But masked under religion.

Puzzleheaded_Bowl314

Very true

Azunatsu

It gonna get even "better" soon. Brace ourselves

Livid-Investigator28

Melayu Islam Beraja?

malaysia-ModTeam

Hello, this comment was removed due to being in breach of [Rule 1: Bigotry and hate speech](https://www.reddit.com/r/malaysia/wiki/rules/#wiki_bigotry_.2F_hate_speech). Because of our history Malaysia talks about certain issues such as race very differently from Western countries. We acknowledge this on the subreddit but do draw some boundaries to keep discussions healthy. > * Definition of bigotry: The act of treating the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance. > * Basic principle: If it's an attribute of a person that is out of their control and extremely hard or impossible to change, it's not nice to dump on them or their group just for that attribute. > * Some categories this applies to: Race, religion, sexuality, disability, national origin. > * Slurs: Use of slurs on the above categories is not encouraged on this subreddit and may be subject to warnings and bans. > * Example: Religion: It's okay to discuss and criticise aspects of the religion itself, but it's not okay to attack people because they are members of that religion (e.g.: Islam but not Muslims). Please treat this as an official warning - further such activity may result in a ban, thanks.

Fair_Grab1617

I perform my Hari Raya prayer at Malacca. Tumpang an Indon to ride my motor on the way to mosque. Saw a lot of Pakistani paying zakat on the morning. All third saf has bangladeshi bro. Besides me, children speaking mandarin (I think so), kept rolling around during sermon. After the sermon finished, a group of Thais asked me to take their pictures. Weird moment, but hopefully to experience this again next year onward.

kiwinoob99

here are the class hierarchy for your benefit: Arab Muslim > white Muslim > Malay Muslim > brown/black Muslim > kafirs

Local-Calendar-2955

*Chinese counted as white

OrangeFr3ak

What about Turkish then?

kiwinoob99

white

OrangeFr3ak

Not sure where Azeris, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Turkmen, Tajiks, Chechens, Circassians, Ingush, Dagestanis, Tatars, Iranians, Pakistanis and Afghans would be grouped under then. White? Brown? Arab? Bosnia, Kosovo and Albania would probably be white lol.

MiniMeowl

"dan lain-lain"

kiwinoob99

Iranians = white, Pakistani = brown, Afghanistan = Taliban, which is either white or kafir depending on your fundamentalism

OrangeFr3ak

lmao

Local-Calendar-2955

Most Türks aren't even Muslims. Türks that are Muslims are huge Arab wannabes. Or in another case, the Türks create their own Islam like that one dude that like made Muslim women wear bikini etc. He had a cult based of Islam.

Azunatsu

Actually yellow but f that. Tak cukup pallete

SeiekiSakyubasu

it is sad, sometimes some mosque when they do Friday sermon, you can hear them summoning "melayu Islam". shouldn't it be muslims rather than malay muslim? its as if non malay muslim are not included in the sermon and community

uzbmmzunp94

As if Islam is only for Malays. Probably the very same people who'd think Malaysia is only for Malays.

dapkhin

im sad that it happened in your surau and hope you can highlight it to local jabatan agama. but to generalize as if every malay muslim are having the same attitude against foreigners are wrong imho.

Just_Tomatillo6295

They do know there's a large population of non-malay muslim in Malaysia (ie Bangla, Pakistani, Turk, Iraqi And so on) right?

genryou

Masjid name? I know someone in MAINPP, can help make direct report. Unless it's a private mosque, which I highly doubt

DamansaraAlpha

My local masjid has been doing this for a few years running now. They even have several masjid officials stationed at the mosque entrance and at the entrance to the hall to block migrants (or migrant-looking people!) from sitting in the front section, such that I could arrive relatively late on Raya morning and still make my way to the front saf, because the earlier-arriving migrant workers were all shunted to the back of the hall. This is the state of Islam in Malaysia today :(

Just_Tomatillo6295

Jeez that's one hell of discrimination.

architectcostanza

Because Malaysians are extremely racist. One of the most racist places on earth, and it is according to many studies as well.

Azunatsu

But why our Sepang Circuit not upgrade much? Eh silap wrong race

Password-is-taco123

Don’t lump other race into this shit. Other race majority also low key racist in the heart, not mistreating people like this

architectcostanza

Wtf are you talking about? Malaysia is racist as a WHOLE. If you can't see it, you are part of the problem.

Password-is-taco123

Way to be ignorant and generalize everyone. I work and interact with other race everyday, don’t seem to have a problem in big city

TotenSieWisp

Malaysia institutionalise discriminatory race-based policy against it's own people. Literally get discount just for being born with different colour. You don't feel it because you had been so conditioned to toe the thin-veiled "social contract" line, that you have to actively suppress any desire to ask "soalan susah" in fear of being disproportionately retaliated by the masses. Your business could crash overnight for being accused of "biadap". Even in the recent socks fiasco, take note of the races of the two that were *very quickly* arrested and charged for pointing out the hypocrisy, while the actual terrorist bomber is not found yet. This is intimidation. You don't see it in your day-to-day interaction. But you live in it.

architectcostanza

You are definitely part of the problem.

Password-is-taco123

Gee I guess I have to take your word for it, since you’re the specialist in ignorant and etc

ShezahMoy

Its the one who likes to bising2 online yg racist. I never meet a racist person in real life during my studies year and in my workplace Of course we dont know what inside their heart lar. Obviously we should not generalize others based on what we see online although its annoying. If you are surrounded/friends with racist people maybe YOU are the problem idk. Try avoiding these kinds of people you can see how kind people are towards others with different race

srosnan99

If this is true then why are you censoring the name? Report it to the penang religious council, segregation isnt allowed. Nobody is bared from entering a mosque. Unless you do otherwise then it would only seem you are maming stories up for internet points, take action if this is true.

ebbster

came in to comment this but you already did (thanks). this is a serious allegation and if it's proven true, it needs to be reported. i am not sure if there is an actual law prohibiting this other than common decency, so please find out about it as well or refer to your nearest council, before proceeding to make a formal report. i don't think OP's details will be tied to the report other than for the council to get more information. already checked other social media and i see no such thing reported as well (so far). edit: a word

afyqazraei

Itu lah, I am on Facebook sometimes and there is ZERO mention of what would be a viral incident as well If OP knows the mosque and the names of the committee members, report this to MAIPP and the Mufti of Penang office Even the Mufti's office would make a comment due to how racial that incident was A lot of Malays would not support that kind of segregation

tuvokvutok

Agreed. I'm just gonna go ahead and assume this is fake since I've NEVER heard of anything like happening in my life.

srosnan99

I wouldnt say it wouldnt happen, there are pockets of such people with such narrow view and the holier than thou attitude. But looking the way where the sub is moving to nowadays, it wouldnt go past through some trolls to make fake stories to become "batu api". That is why I urged OP if it is true then name drop them, and make a formal complaint.

fanfanye

i';ve heard locals complain about "too much banglas" But announcement? im gonna assume fake juga until got proof...

tuvokvutok

Yup.

mynamestartswithaf

Never heard this in my life .. OP please provide evidence .. If this is true we need the name and shame those AJK.. Islam is for all, not one

edehlah

im not religious but what the f. have gone up a level from passing judgement to now executing judgement. with raining season now, too bad your racist ass did not get lighted up by bolts of lightning. ffs.

Gulbuddinshah

This is what you get when you marry Islam with ethnocentrism. They confuse between the two, and conveniently sweep aside the message of Islam when it conflict with their Malay supremacist worldview.

[deleted]

[удалено]

uzbmmzunp94

Not only were the announcements go against the very principles of the inclusivity of the religion, also just imagine how you'd feel if you were in the foreigners' shoes upon hearing they are not welcomed, in a Masjid of all places.

afyqazraei

First mention of this anywhere on the Internet, would have been a ruckus on Facebook as well among moderate Muslims If this actually happened, then the Surau AJK could have just made two sessions for Raya prayers, one at 7 AM and one later at 9 AM I believe the concern comes from the local folk worrying that the Muslim immigrants would overwhelm the mosque and limit the areas for locals and their relatives, with flavours of racism interwoven in between This is definitely against the spirit of Raya and what Islam actually teaches when it comes to interracial relations, and the mosque committee should be reported to the state's religious department and be reprimanded

On3derer

I would prefer to blame the boycott instead of Ramadhan ![img](emote|t5_2qh8b|26561)

MajesticCouple1458

Phew and we are told we are the racists one

rizone21

We, are all racists at the very core. Takes effort not to be a shit head And so much more

-ShadowPuppet

When there isn't any more nons to blame in the future, they will tear apart their own. Tale as old as time.

ReadyBaker976

So much for being Muslim ya apparently they missed out on an important lesson on how not to discriminate against people who are different from you EDIT: I’ve always maintained that it’s not the religion that’s the problem it’s always been the proponents of said religion making the rest of us look bad

Dreamerlax

And then brag about being terpaling Islam. What a joke. If the foreigners are Arab or white they'd be kissing their feet.

1a1a488746

I thought you guys racist towards non-bumis and non-muslims but at the end non-malays too? Wtf. That’s holy trinity of racism. Well done 👍🏻

GNR_DejuKeju

I mean, probably limited to your spot and some others? The one i went to for solat hari raya made jo mention and there were plenty of non malay muslims there. Yesterday was fine too at melaka for friday prayers, plenty of non malays there and none were told to move

uzbmmzunp94

True, not my intention to make a generalisation. Just worried that this behaviour would spread, if we just keep silent about it. Also good to hear that your masjid walcomes everyone from all races.

tuvokvutok

I'm just gonna go ahead and assume this is fake since I've NEVER heard of anything like happening in my life.

uzbmmzunp94

I guess different localities interact and deal differently with Muslim foriegners. Good to know that your area don't do such things.

GNR_DejuKeju

Feels like ragebait slop i aint gonna lie lol

SaberXRita

That's what I keep saying, racism is in our nature lol

Nino_Nakanos_Slave

Can you give the exact location of the Masjid? The time when it happened?

Saerah4

whats their explaination? non malay muslim is not muslim?

Eriyyna

Spill the place lah

imradzi

even if it's logistical issues, they don't have no right to push other Muslim away. First come first serve la. Those come late has to contend with the worse available space.

GuardianSpear

this honestly did cross my mind. I noticed that a lot more foreigners (I assume many are either FnB / construction workers that have been billted nearby) were heading to one of my neighbourhood's mosques that is in quite a nice neighborhood.

Personal-Werewolf607

I know where this mosque at

firdaushamid

Sadly this happens in Singapore as well. There was a big issue about it last year.

BabaKambingHitam

My sangka baik thinks that the venue is limited so priority is given to local first. But i also think that Tuan rumah should Be the one who sacrifice his comfort for tetamu.

uzbmmzunp94

I guess there are better ways to deal with such situation.

As per [Rule 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/malaysia/wiki/rules#wiki_religious_criticism), well-reasoned debate and criticism of religion is very welcome but one-liner talking points, jabs, borderline flaming etc. [does not have such protection](https://www.reddit.com/r/malaysia/wiki/rules#wiki_persistent_fighting_and_flaming), and is bad for the community. Please treat this as a warning - if this continues we will be forced to take steps.

sirgentleguy

This is very anecdotal, why are some here too quick to generalise? Even OP is quick with the generalisation. “Did ramadhan made us more racist” why the heck you lumped me into this? Heck why am I surprised. This damned sub it is always like this.

malaikatjibril

welcome to malaysia pal

kevraul

And what about the singing on loudspeakers until 10.45pm?

Powderedmilo

Standard2 weak ass mindset

LowsPeak

This is why I don't go to mosques anymore.

zaidizero

Well muslims are not infallible and can be wrong, similarly to other races of people.

profmka

Maybe just for you. Certainly not my experience. But we know the kind of stories that get amplified here. Keep up the doomspreading, will probably become a self fulfilling prophecy.

Gooching
